Downtime

Some of you may have noticed some downtime recently. It is very annoying.

Apparently the servers are being moved or upgraded or something, so we'll be getting some dead air for the next couple of weeks. If you happen to show up here during one of those periods, you are probably very unlucky, all things considered.

Timezones et cetera

One of the benefits of PHP 5 is its default timezone setting, which takes all the manual offset nonsense out of the picture and replaces it with awesomeness. That's how PHP 5 rolls.

The time should read correctly now everywhere except SS, since ha ha, oh man. Also, I accidentally deleted the index at the homepage and had to reupload a version from 2008. I'm pretty sure it's basically identical. That's how I roll.

The default timezone for users who aren't logged in, by the way, is PDT. Why? Because that is objectively the best timezone.

PHP 5

Apparently I have access to PHP 5 now and have had it for quite some time. Yeah. It would have been nice to have known this sooner.

For those of you who don't know, PHP 4, which I've been using for the last six years, is basically terrible. PHP 5 was released a long, long time ago, but with the hosting package I was using I was under the impression it was unavailable. The upgrade brings with it access to a number of cool things, like all this jazz as well as an object model that wasn't designed by meth addicts. Not that you will necessarily benefit from any of this.

So. There you go. If you see any weird errors that's because something isn't backwards compatible. Be sure to let me know about them.
