| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Q: Will this game suck? A: Most likely. Q: Then why did you make it? A: Two reasons: first, boredom. Second, boredom. It may be nifty to have something to do when I dont feel like actually doing any real work to advance myself in this world. Q: I see. Then, allow me to dabble in the realm of obligation and ask how this was coded. A: SS was written in PHP, which is really quite obvious if you can read. I was originally going to go with some Java/-script but the amount of education such a foray would have required made it look significantly less viable. Q: Why would you have needed Java/-script? A: PHP isnt that useful for making little men that walk around. Q: So there are no avatars/characters/etc./etc. in this game? A: There are you just cant see them. Q: Then how do you navigate? A: Each area, or screen, is assigned an ID and has links to the areas around it. You can either enter a particular screens ID into the URL, or you can click the links to walk around. Q: Doesnt that mean you can get anywhere you want just by typing in a few numbers? A: Almost. Some areas will be restricted until you have completed some part of the storyline. Q: I see. Anyway, on to game mechanics: what genre of game is this? A: This is an RPG with MMORPG capabilities, most notably PVP, assuming theres enough interest to develop that. Q: What does this game have to offer that other games dont? A: Not much. However, there are some unique qualities that might make the game slightly less bland. For instance, you will have the option of having humans/humanoid characters in your party or monsters that you pick up along the storyline. Q: Why bother with both? A: Under the assumption that I will introduce PVP, this allows for more customization. Q: Whats the difference between humanoids and monsters? A: Humanoids must be taught skills or spells. Monsters learn them as they mature. Also, Humanoids can advance their class. Monsters cant do that, but will most likely have some other way to advance themselves. Q: Are there any innovations to the turn-based battle system that you are invariably going to employ? A: Maybe. There are only two certainties at this point. First, there will be mounts/transports that either carry one player character/party member or the entire party. These will have actual influence in battle HP, attacks, skills, etc. Indeed, some of the monsters you find can be used as either mounts and/or transports. Second, there will be a class of as-of-yet-un-named permanent spells that stay active once they are cast and have some effect on the battle environment until they either expire through some natural means or are forcibly removed. Q: Thats almost vaguely interesting. When will the game be finished? A: Hard to tell. Development will take a while, as I have to hard code every spell, ability, creature, class, etc., etc. The pieces are currently in place, so a release of some sort is imminent; however, not unlike some other games in the genre, development will continue even after the final release, if theres a reason for me to continue it. PVP would only be implemented in this way. Q: Last question - will this game be free? A: Of course. (This question is actually quite stupid.) |
