Today I have two updates, one of which is far more relevant than the other.

Message Editing

Those of you level 27 and above now have a "--settings" link in the message details bar of each of your messages (moderators of course had this already). That there is a link to the message settings dialogue, which allows you to edit your own messages. Before, this was only a perk we 16 moderator types had access to. Now those users level 47 and lower have a watered down version: you can only edit the message contents. Users level 47 and above can edit everything and delete the message as well.

In addition, I also made it so spoiler tags etc. ought to be properly evaluated (though I haven't tested this) when added through message settings, and I've changed the "message last edited" message to be entirely separate of the actual contents of the message, which is in start contrast to the hideous "let's throw some horizontal rules on that bitch" approach ns took, even if it is still kind of ugly.

There's no message history, which for moderation purposes should be fine, since you can't edit a moderated message. You also can't edit a message in a closed topic. (Though this isn't the case if you're a mod or admin, respectively.) I considered adding something like this but I figured I'd mirror the article system, namely because if you abusively edit your messages we can just ban you anyway.

Autogenerated Topics

The reason I instituted these more global message editing privileges is actually tied in to the article system. Namely, I wanted to be able to link certain topics to articles much like Network Announcements posts are linked to the home page.

I've so far only done part of that, namely, the autogeneration of topics. There is a degree of linkage though: if an article is withdrawn, deleted, or unnaccepted, the linked topic (if any, as you can choose not to make one when submitting the article) is closed. When I get around to doing part two of this feature I'll also add a way to link already existing topics to unlinked articles (possibly only for moderators).

The usual disclaimer about how now I may have warped the fabric of reality or just broken something or how maybe none of the above actually works applies.
