Republicans

Giuliani is racking up over 40% of the straw poll votes here (I could be remembering this wrong, but I'm too lazy to look it up), so it'd be quite the surprise for everyone involved if he ends up losing somehow. If that does happen, I expect this to go to Romney.

One thing's for sure, though: if Ron Paul wins Iowa, he almost certainly wins the nomination. But he's not going to win Iowa, so no biggie here.

Democrats

Hillary is still ahead of all the other candidates, but she hasn't been doing much in Iowa - her image there has been essentialized into a few last minute pep-talks and a small contingent of staffers. Meanwhile, Obama's been in here for several weeks trying to get the support of the grassroots democratic supporters who might not be accurately reflected in straw polls. Also Edwards, but he sucks.

Regardless, Hillary is still the favorite, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Obama wins this one.

As for the Republicans, I thought Giuliani was all "lol Iowa" and it was between Huckabee and Romney. Romney being the lesser of two evils here.

Giuliani decided not to campaign actively in Iowa, but his name recognition is such that I don't think it's going to set him back. I don't think Huckabee has a chance in hell.

Well, yes, but despite that appealing notion, her stances on other policies make her an unattractive candidate.

Fuck Ron Paul. >_>

He's an idiot, and a complete Douche. I saw him interviewed on Glenn Beck's show. He's a complete fucking idiot.
He claims that "Al Aqaeda is weak, and ALWAYS has been weak and is no threat."
And he also said that as soon as the Americans leave the middle east, everyone will stop trying to kill the US. lol Bull shit.

Of course, I'd take him over Hillary any day.

I may be Canadian, but I've been following the news in the US because I watch CNN a lot.

lol glenn beck

srsly

He claims that "Al Aqaeda is weak, and ALWAYS has been weak and is no threat."

Well: http://www.guardian.co.uk/terrorism/story/0,12780,1327904,00.html
He tells the story of Islamism, or the desire to establish Islam as an unbreakable political framework, as half a century of mostly failed, short-lived revolutions and spectacular but politically ineffective terrorism. Curtis points out that al-Qaida did not even have a name until early 2001, when the American government decided to prosecute Bin Laden in his absence and had to use anti-Mafia laws that required the existence of a named criminal organisation.

Curtis also cites the Home Office's own statistics for arrests and convictions of suspected terrorists since September 11 2001. Of the 664 people detained up to the end of last month, only 17 have been found guilty. Of these, the majority were Irish Republicans, Sikh militants or members of other groups with no connection to Islamist terrorism. Nobody has been convicted who is a proven member of al-Qaida.
Maybe the idea that Al-Qaida is a highly-organized agency of effective political reform requires some examination.

And he also said that as soon as the Americans leave the middle east, everyone will stop trying to kill the US. lol Bull shit.

Not as unlikely as you think. Currently extremists are able to generate support for at least suicide missions against the United States largely because it's an occupying force. Should we vacate the area, they won't have their primary channel of recruitment - American interventionism - and it's tough to convince people to come over here and blow themselves up just to stop the distribution of corrupt western values or whatever it is Muslim extremists are supposed to be concerned about.

Of course then we have enlightened pundits like Glenn Beck who postulate that the driving force of terrorism is the desire to establish an international caliphate, and we're forced to laugh at these people, because otherwise we'd have to beat them with bats for suggesting we take up arms and bend our foreign policy backward to deal (ineffectively, one might add) with a movement about as threatening to national security as radical Marxism.

So your say all of us law abiding gun owners should give up our guns? You are screwed in the head. Because if that happens there will be a huge influx of guns being owned by outlaws and by outlaws I don't mean gang members and such I mean private citzens that where forced to give up one of there rights because some stupid cunt is against guns. If she has her way only the police and miliarty will own guns which is wrong. I own several guns alot of my friends and relatives do to. But we don't use them for anything more than hunting. I own 5 shotguns 1 rifle and a pistol. all of them used for hunting expcet the pistol thats more for target shooting out at the gun range.

Aww yeah...

Now hopefully the Obama bandwagon can gain more steam and obliterate all resistance.

Was hoping for Romney to stop Huckabee though, but wasn't too surprised he failed at it. McCain is my fallback, because I doubt anyone else could stop him.

Though McCain would likely be much harder to beat in a general election, so... =/

Still, Huckabee... I'd also cry if he were elected.

Huckabee's support base, judging by entrance polls, is 17-29 low-to-average-income born-again Christian girls who pick their candidates based on their religious convictions and how willing they are to express their "feelings". The Republican party is made up mostly of rich men, the majority of which picked Romney, so it's doubtful that the Huckabee parade of retarded crap is going to get off to any start off this victory.

I'm nevertheless irritated that Romney lost and amused at Giuliani's epic failure. Clearly I overestimated his name recognition, eh?

McCain probably has the best chances in New England but I think he's going to get cut off by Giuliani and Romney what with New York and Mass. being their home states.

Obama just got a ridiculous victory and I must say I'm terribly disappointed to see somebody as useless as Edwards in second place and someone as insidious as Clinton a close third. It seems you Democrats can only make one good collective choice at a time!
