Marsh Where the Migratory Birds Gather - Wild Arms
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UHN0d1UN7M&fmt=18

To my amazement, I found a copy of Wild Arms in a variety mall yesterday for a very reasonable price ($15 for a somewhat scratched disc, fairly good case, lacking a manual but I can deal with that). So heck, I decided to celebrate that by checking its soundtrack out for today. And I was pleased with what I heard overall. It has a nice soundtrack, at least as far as I heard. I doubt it will appeal to xp or Kenri's tastes, but oh well, here is one of the ones I really liked. That wind instrument makes it for me. The rest is still nice, but it is the parts with the wind instrument that stand out the most for me. A cheerful piece done well, I guess I would say.

Ollie King - Let It Go

That beginning... oh man... It recovers slightly after that, but... not all that much. Well, I guess it does in an absolute quality sense, but that doesn't say too much. That said, it's not horrible or anything, IMO. However, I think it kind of "drags" at the end, probably would benefit in my mind if it ended like a minute earlier. Not sure that would really impact my rating, if you get what I mean, but yeah... I'll say... 4.0/10.

Marsh Where the Migratory Birds Gather - Wild Arms

*Sigh* Well, that was "fun." The wind instrument you refer to is the "best" part of the piece, but that really, really is not saying much. At all.

A cheerful piece done well, I guess I would say.

...No. And I mean this on multiple levels. I'm not even getting the "cheerful" vibe from this at all. Sounds more like a "dungeon" theme to me. That's not to say a dungeon theme can't be cheerful, but again, I really don't see "cheerful" here at all. I'll say 4.0/10 again, but a lower 4/10 than the previous one.

Ever17: The Out of Infinity - LeMU ~Haruka na Lemuria Tairiku~
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhv5b8u8nFE&hd=1

So, in case you don't know, Ever17 is a Visual Novel (and LeMU is the opening for it) and while I'd place LeMU below most of the other VN songs that have popped up in this topic, it's still pretty good, IMO. I generally like the vocals and instruments, but it does have some clear flaws, if you ask me. Perhaps first among these is I think it probably goes on a bit too long, I also have some conflicted opinions on the uh... I'm not sure what I'd call them... backup vocals? The spots here and there where while the "main" vocals are going, you'll hear some other ones. They're very short though, and don't truly bother me much at all though. As for favorite parts, there are two main contenders in my mind. First is the very beginning from 0:00 - 0:37 or the section at 1:11 - 2:02.

Mr. Gimmick! - Strange Memories of Death
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8_qNdw9Mrk&hd=1

Something that was in the VGMC4, which I only know about through a topic on B8 that ranks every song that has ever been in a VGMC. It's a very good chiptune piece that I would not, and did not, immediately identify as a chiptune. I didn't really pay attention to the image in the video that said "Nintendo Entertainment System" and just sort of assumed this was a somewhat dated sounding song from a PS1 game or something. Based on a YouTube comment I guess maybe it's the Famicom version and used extra sound channels, which... if I knew what that implied, I might be able to say if that justifies my mistaken first impression or not. Ah well.

In any case, I'll take any chance I can get to post chiptunes, because I feel like they're underrepresented here, and I think this one is quite good and matches up pretty well against even the best chiptunes posted in this topic. As you might expect from a song that changes and abouts face as often as this one does, there are parts I like less than others, but I really don't feel like picking any of them out; I'll just say that I really like the piece as a whole and that, unusually for me, I don't even mind that it does so much different stuff.

Epic Pinball - Space Journey
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0Z4j-4sSUc&hd=1

This game's soundtrack is surprisingly not awful. You don't expect pinball games to have good soundtracks, right? I mean, I don't, at least.

Anyway, Space Journey is almost certainly my favorite track from this game, though I really like a few others too. Space Journey just hits a certain niche, where I think it almost has too much build up, but cuts it just before it hits that point. I also really, really like the handful of "pay offs" it has, even if they're only a few seconds long each. Especially that... whatever you want to call that at 1:18; it's only like three seconds long but I'd give just that part like a 17/10 if I could.

I don't think there's any way of getting around the fact that this song deserves to be in some RPG, or shmup, or something, for a climactic boss or escape sequence, not stuck in a pinball game. And I say that with the absolute most possible respect to pinball games, which I love whole-heartedly, but which do not lend themselves well to situations that would fit this song.

As a note, that link cuts off abruptly at the end. I'm pretty sure the actual track is supposed to keep looping. So, yeah.

Mr. Gimmick! - Strange Memories of Death

Well, let's see here. This has some pretty neat sections to it, but a lot more of it is wasted not utilizing this advantage. Nevertheless, it's not bad. Just wish it stayed in that pretty awesome part. 5.5/10

Man, Hepatica stops its vocals and you say those sections would be rated the second or third worst in this entire topic/series (for you). This song stops everything and you say you'd give those sections a 17 out of 10. I really can't win, can I?

Seriously though, this is also pretty good, I'll say 6.0/10.

Final Fantasy XIII - Saber's Edge
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRZ7D4xAEr0&hd=1

This is the standard boss theme for FFXIII, although, as I've mentioned on a few occasions, FFXIII plays around with what plays where, and this ends up becoming a theme for part of a dungeon at one point, for example. I also want to say this is the first battle theme in the game. Yes, you heard that right, I'm pretty sure you hear the Boss Theme before any others. Saber's Edge's weakness, to me, is the kind of "downtime" it has in the middle from about 1:25 until about 2:00. At least, I view it as downtime compared to my absolute favorite part of the song, which you can hear at 0:32 - 1:09, it would always just get me pretty psyched for whatever fight or situation it was playing in. The section at around 2:04 - 2:22 is pretty good at that too, but not nearly on the same level, IMO.

It doesn't stop everything, it just kinda... kills all the background instrumentation and does like... almost a record skip effect or something. And then it doesn't do this for like a minute and a half, because that would be horrible. <_<

As a result of getting kicked off early by my grandmother, here's this a day late.

Unfinished Battle - Xenoblade
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeW_ycTXtVY&fmt=18

I wish I could have used something besides Xenoblade, but boy, I was coming up dry. So here we are. As expected, this is a good soundtrack, though I did deliberately try to keep myself from hearing too many pieces because I am hoping to experience it for myself. I prefer the faster sections in this piece. There is a downtime about halfway in that I am not quite as fond of, but it is still good. The constant strings throughout are probably why I really like it, and the rest works well with them. I am not sure how often this is used ingame, but I hope it is a frequent piece.

And for today's...

Sealed Time - Ys: The Oath in Felghana
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Knd4oW-RpbU&fmt=18

I went to the PSP version first and backtracked to III to hear the original. In my opinion, not as good. This one definitely has the advantage, though the original is not awful or anything. I would post it, but I have been trying to avoid remixes/etcetera for this 'challenge'. As for this piece? This is really, really awesome. It has a great pace and awesome instruments. The soundtrack seems good from what I have heard, but this one grabbed my attention more than any of the others I checked. I also like how it alters while going on, but the strings are probably my favorite parts. I find it constantly odd how many times I enjoy strings in pieces when usually it does not cross my mind.

Namco X Capcom - Subarashiki Shin Sekai

Like I said to you before, I considered posting this, but decided I didn't like it quite enough to... I think I probably ended up posting that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom opening instead. Ah well. I still think this is okay. I like the instrumentation and the vocals are usually okay, but sections like 1:40 (in the full version) really hurt the song. I know they're short but I just don't like them, and they seem kinda out of place, though maybe understanding the lyrics would fix that.

6/10 for both.

Marsh Where the Migratory Birds Gather - Wild Arms

I would also not call this particularly cheerful, though it's not not cheerful either. I dunno, tough call there. In any case, not my favorite, by any means!

4/10

Ever17: The Out of Infinity - LeMU ~Haruka na Lemuria Tairiku~

Hey, I like this! It was hit and miss for a while but I think I finally figured it out and determined that I like it. <_< It does go on a little long, but it's thankfully interesting throughout, and 5:30 is still well within the limits of "I can't bitch too much about this, length-wise".

7/10

Final Fantasy XIII - Saber's Edge

This is one of those songs where I feel like it tries to go in too many different directions and ends up with, yeah, downtime... and also like a case of dissociative identity disorder. I wish it would pick a direction or three and stick with it, because it's got some really good parts (and yes, :32-1:09 is probably the best of them).

5.5/10

Unfinished Battle - Xenoblade

Similar to above, this has a lot of the same problems... Only it's only got one identity, but that identity just becomes tiresome after about a minute.

ALSO I BET IT'S CALLED UNFINISHED BATTLE BECAUSE WHENEVER THIS THEME POPS UP THE PARTY RUNS AWAY TO MAKE IT STOP

5/10

Sealed Time - Ys: The Oath in Felghana

Yeah, this is quite good. That's why I was planning to post it, and probably would have already but I'm trying to not ripoff VGMotD too much. Even though they steal from me all the time (for the record: Now You're A Hero, Forgone Destruction, Summer Lights, March Unto Death).

Really can't think of too much to say about this one except that it's just really good all around (though not 8.5/10 good, wtf).

Sekien no Inganock - Adenium
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmBXOgOocng&hd=1

So... this song. I've got some words for this song. That opening? The first like 12 seconds? My god that's good. I wish the whole song was that... or rather in a similar style. Or at least made use of it more than once. Such a ****ing tease.

Anyway! I think this is pretty okay, especially when it picks up speed, less so when it's moving at a snail's pace. The instrumentation always struck me as... I dunno, slightly out of place, I'm not sure why. I guess it sorta reads as like... Arabian or Egyptian or something to me, which is part of it. But I do think the singer has a nice voice, so it balances out. It also kinda reminds me of Shell, the OP for Witch Hunter Robin, which I like more than is probably justifiable. They're not very similar, really, but still, always nice when a song reminds me of some other song I like.

Sekien no Inganock - Adenium

This is pretty neat though, however, you somehow managed to get it wrong still! The beginning is probably the weakest part. Also, I think I much prefer the "slower" lyrics to the "faster" ones. It's not a big deal though. I'll say 6.5/10. Could be higher if it was all like the slower lyrics section, I think. Maybe up to a full point, but maybe not. Hard to say.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep - Dismiss
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzuM9soGDy8&hd=1

Probably my favorite song from BBS, most definitely my favorite original song from BBS, and arguably my favorite non Passion/Sanctuary/Hikari KH series song. Dismiss is pretty much the True Final Boss Theme of Birth By Sleep, and it delivers on that. I've heard Dismiss called "Destati done right" and that is an absolutely perfect description for it. I'm like 99% sure it's based on Destati, and it just makes it so much better. As for my favorite section, that would be at 1:02 - 1:51. However, Dismiss is overall quite excellent, IMO.

Demon Vesper Final Battle - Zwei!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g06GDD_8EU&fmt=18

Z in JRPGs was also pretty lacking, though I guess that should not be surprising. This one turned up a rare gem of a piece for me though. Why is this one so high in my book? Bagpipes! I believe I said this when I posted Gage's theme, but it bears repeating that I love bagpipes, and it is so rare for me to find them in video game music. here they are used pretty well, though not as well as in Gage's theme I think. I like all of it, but at one minute it gets pretty prominent and is a bit higher for me. Then again, those melodies are quite good.

Demon Vesper Final Battle - Zwei!!

...Huh. I want to say this is a vastly inferior version of the song that I'm familiar with. Because the version I know is substantially better than this, if only because it seems a lot "cleaner." This is a mess at most times, and even when it approaches the legitimately rather good sections (in the version I'm familiar with) it only barely cleans that up. Which is a shame, because I want to say the version I'm talking about scores considerably higher. Like maybe even two and a half points. Definitely at least one and a half. 4.5/10.

How was it?

Touhou Project: Undefined Fantastic Object - Fires of Hokkai
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aca3f9OYcXs&hd=1

So, this is the Stage 6 Theme for Touhou: UFO, which to put that in terms of Touhou is the stage of the final boss (not including the extra boss(es).) Although I much prefer a remix of this, the actual piece itself is pretty neat, IMO. I'm not sure where I stand on it when it gets a bit more "cluttered" later on in the piece, but before that it's certainly very nice, and it even manages to sort out a few of the "cluttered" problems at times. For my favorite parts, it's the more "simple" sections, for example, 0:00 - 0:54. After that it starts entering that territory I was talking about, but as I said, I still like some of the things it does there.

Since I finally finished Xenosaga Episode III (in terms of beating it that is), I can actually post something from its soundtrack. So here we go, my favorite battle theme other than Godsibb (and I wind up listening to this more in my free time anyway). Great story context, great vocals, great background music, really, it does everything well. It sort of makes for unusual battle music, but it really does enhance the battle it is in.

X-Men Legends - Weapon X Facility (Action)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hdrZ73DqYg&hd=1

You all have CG7 to thank for this, indirectly at least; I was disappointed with her choice for X and went off searching for the soundtracks of other X RPGs. And I found out that X-Men Legends actually has a very interesting soundtrack, with a lot of tracks I like. As for this one, it's definitely my favorite or close to it, and I don't think I've posted anything like it in the topic yet, so hey, that's nice too. Always good to get some variety going.

You might notice, listening to this, that it does a lot of the stuff that I'm on the record as hating! And you might think to yourself, "Kenri, this makes you a huge hypocrite." Well, that's because it does. Or, less cynically, it shows that there are very few things I hate unconditionally, and that there are just certain things I think aren't used well very often. I mean, I could easily be like, "wow, this is a loud, annoying, convoluted mess with too much electric guitar (by which I mean it has an electric guitar at all GRRR I JUST HATE ELECTRIC GUITARS SO MUCH)", but no, I think it all works here and creates a very intense, very enjoyable song. It helps that it does a lot of stuff I like, too. DID YOU KNOW I LIKE MACHINERY NOISES GUYS??? because i do.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep - Dismiss

Definitely a final boss theme. It's good. I wouldn't say it's got much I haven't heard before, but it's quite proficient at what it does.

6.5/10

Demon Vesper Final Battle - Zwei!!

This is a... really bad version of a good song. It's got good parts, somehow, against all odds, but they don't save it.

3.5/10

Touhou Project: Undefined Fantastic Object - Fires of Hokkai

I'm not a huge fan of Touhou music, but if it was all like this, I think I would be. This is much, much more focused than Touhou music generally is, even in the "cluttered" parts it never even approaches the level of sheer claustrophobia that a lot of Touhou pieces have. I don't prefer those sections by any means, but they also don't kill the song for me, or even hurt it very much. I also really like the heartbeat effect, which almost functions as a war drum... or maybe the other way around. I don't think that was unintentional, either.

7/10, debated between this and 6.5 but I think I'll give Touhou the benefit of the doubt for once.

Fatal Fight (E.S. Levi) - Xenosaga III: Also sprach Zarathustra

Come show me,

7.5/10, a high 7.5 too

The Extreme (Black Mages Remix) - Final Fantasy VIII

This is... weird. It's really almost like a medley, a bunch of different songs mashed together.

...i think i like it.

Touhoumon - Sariel Fight

Solution: open video, immediately go to another tab, "spoilers" avoided!

This is okay, but I do not understand Kenri's love for the introduction. Oh well. The rest manages to be a fairly decent battle theme if nothing else. I sort of lack more to say about it. The remix of the normal battle theme is actually more interesting in my opinion, but different strokes, different folks, etc.

Touhou Project 1: Highly Responsive to Prayers - Now, Until the Moment You Die

Wish I could help you out, but my knowledge of Touhou music is a bit too limited for that.

This is better than the remix above. I like the, um, organ?, that is used, and I think the melody is better in several sections. Definite improvement here overall, and I actually like hearing it, even if it is a more bare bones than a lot of the newer Touhou pieces. I could see myself liking remixes of it more, but not the one posted.

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! - Training ~ Credits

Never did play this, though of course I have heard of it.

Uh, well, I guess this is all right. It does nothing I find too significant but at the same time it does nothing to offend me. The sections where it has a rapid sequence of tones is interesting if nothing else. It sort of makes me think of a few quick jabs, which maybe could be the point, or it could just be me being silly. Okay credits music for an older game.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 - Battle for Survival

Xenosaga's normal battle theme superior imoooooo.

Shin Megami Tensei battle theme means it should be good, and it is. I definitely think this is higher on the normal battle themes spectrum. As for how much I like it by itself, it still does better than average by a fair margin. It has a cool guitar throughout and some neat little effects. Yeah, this does well for me.

Namco X Capcom - Subarashiki Shin Sekai (Opening Version)

Flipping heck I want this game to come over here.

This vocal piece fails to grip me as much as some others in this topic, but it still manages to be quite good. I like the chorus sections, and there are a few parts before them that are notable. Slightly above average, nothing I would highly put above other openings but still entertaining. I do wish it was a bit longer for relistening purposes, but from a quality perspective, it has nothing to lose from being that length.

The first few seconds make me hate everything. Thankfully it recovers from there. I sort of grew oddly fond of the "Let it go!" portions, and a few others. Also what the heck Bugs Bunny reference? I actually heard it before rereading Kenri's entry surprisingly. Oh, those vocals that are, uh, higher pitched?, they remind me of something. A Spyro: Year of the Dragon track, actually, but it holds nothing else in common really. ...Funny thing is it plays in a level where you can skateboard, though not with that music. Anyway, not my type of thing, but at least it evens out a bit.

Ever17: The Out of Infinity - LeMU ~Haruka na Lemuria Tairiku~

I have seen this game mentioned on tvtropes, but nothing else.

So this reminds me of Infinity of Our Love in some ways, mainly because of how the vocalist sings in a few parts. She has a good voice, but the piece itself does nothing to break out from most of the molds I am used to. This ranks somewhere around the above average but not too far. Not a bad place to land, all things considered.

Mr. Gimmick! - Strange Memories of Death

What on earth at that box art.

I sort of get a Mega Man vibe from this. Whether that is intentional or not is beyond me. It has some interesting parts. The description surprised me, I wonder why this was not used. I could see this going well in a level. At least it was included in the sound test rather than being scrapped. Yeah, overall, this is a hit for me.

Epic Pinball - Space Journey

This game sounds totally epic. And about pinball. ...Yeah.

This is okay. It gets my foot tapping if nothing else. I would not mind hearing it for a while. But overall it does nothing to make it particularly memorable to me. Some of the nicer sound effects make it rank above average. At least this is better than some pinball music. Excuse me while I go burn my copy of Pok

Fatal Fight (E.S. Levi) - Xenosaga III: Also sprach Zarathustra

I waver back and forth on how much I actually like this, but at the very least it's clearly better than the XS2 Fatal Fight. 8.5/10.

The Extreme (Black Mages Remix) - Final Fantasy VIII

Ah, "super," a "remix" that changes everything for the worse. ...Somehow I suspect this won't be the last time I express this sentiment. 4.5/10.

X-Men Legends - Weapon X Facility (Action)

I wouldn't quite pull the "convoluted mess" card, but that is by far the worst part of the song because why would this ruin what is otherwise pretty good? 5.5/10.

NieR - The Wretched Automatons
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvoOER1VrV0&hd=1

One of the better NieR Dungeon Themes, IMO, which is a good thing, because you're probably going to be in this one more than the others, especially if you try to complete every little thing. Anyway, this might be one of the rare NieR songs where I might like the non-vocals more than the vocals, even if the vocals are still good IMO. However, my favorite parts are when they're both there together.

The Shooted (Original)- Dead or Alive 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNN6jeVb04A&fmt=18

This was more complicated than I thought. I could only find one video for this version and it calls it the original version, which would mean, as far as I can tell, it played for the arcade game. This is the one that got me hooked, in any case, to the point I have wanted to post it for the past month or so. I stumbled on it during a search for ninja themes, and while Dead or Alive 3 has a good theme for Ryu, this one jumped over it for my favorite easily. 0:04-0:29 is the main reason why, but man, I love all of it. I predict a large amount of "wall of noise" complaints, but honestly, this is one of my favorite random finds so far.

The Shooted (Dreamcast) - Dead or Alive 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tahIB9fMxAU&fmt=18

I hope this is the Dreamcast version or else I will feel like an utter idiot. This is still good, but it lacks the really powerful, um, "loud" instrumentals that makes the original so kicking awesome. Normally I hate loud instruments, this is one of the few exceptions I can find. This one also gets a strange ending that I do not like as much as the rest of the piece, but again, it fails to be bad. It just does not work as well to me. On a random note, what the heck kind of a name is "The Shooted"? Should have just called it "Ryu's Theme" really.

Well crumb if I can tell the difference here. I think I can hear some variances, but at the same time, I question if it is the quality of the videos. Someone tell me if I am delusional or not. If it is the same and I am silly, do not bother making this an alternate entry, just put Dreamcast/Playstation 2 above or something.

Faith is for the Transient People (TAMUSIC Remix) - Touhou Project: Mountain of Faith
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtYdYvYGWe8&fmt=18

This version is a lot slower than the original, but man, with my comments on strings as of late, it should come as no surprise that I find these utterly beautiful. The introduction is a little too slow, but as it gets further in, I really began liking it. It is no Keep the Faith, but it is wonderful in its own way. I could see opinions going either way due to its pacing though.

Cheetahmen II - Cheetahmen II Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNRD2lslEGI&hd=1

A very popular chiptune from a very bad game, which I decided to post as part of my on-going quest to post the most generic pieces imaginable (and also stuff like Epic Pinball and X-Men Legends). I don't like it as much as some people do, but it IS a really cool song.

I've mentioned a couple times that I like music that has a sense of movement, and this definitely has that; I think it's because of that background percussion effect (I'm not gonna call it an instrument, sorry). I don't know what my favorite part is, but I know what my least favorite part is: :52 through 1:05, which is actually the reason it took me so long to post this, I think, because I couldn't figure out how much that section hurt my opinion of the song as a whole. ...I think I've kind of come around to it by now, but still, definitely the weakest part.

The Shooted (Original)- Dead or Alive 2

...what the. I'm not even sure what this... 3.0/10.

The Shooted (Dreamcast) - Dead or Alive 2

At least this version doesn't sound like a complete abomination. It's still not much of a step forward though. 3.5/10.

The Shooted (Playstation 2) - Dead or Alive 2

...why do i have to listen to this three times? As for whether this is the same song or not, I honestly don't know. This is such a mess that trying to sort that out is just way beyond what I'm willing to try here. This "feels" worse than the last one though. So, I don't know. 3.0/10.

Faith is for the Transient People (TAMUSIC Remix) - Touhou Project: Mountain of Faith

...Well, at least after that, a Touhou remix should be a lock to beat that.

...

...

...That was a lot closer than it had any right to be. 4.5/10.

Cheetahmen II - Cheetahmen II Theme

...What makes me sad is that there are five songs I had to rate in this post. ...This managed to make it into the top half. 4.0/10.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 - Divine Identity
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zEBqKjHoOA&hd=1

So, from what I have been able to determine, Divine Identity is the final boss theme for Digital Devil Saga 2, and I think it does a pretty good job at that. Although, I do find it a bit funny that I'm not sure what I'd take between this and the normal battle theme. They both have their strong points to me, and for Divine Identity, it's the "style change" within the song, while I definitely like it before that - I mean, I could already throw out my all-too-used-and-generic, "I like pretty much everything about it" with some added commentary on how I especially like some of the sound effects in there that I couldn't describe because I'm terrible at this, but I'm not sure it could stand up against Battle for Survival on that alone, but then you have the section at 1:04 - 1:43 which is what really helps elevate this in my mind. I especially like whatever that effect is at 1:04. I don't think I'd like it if it was used a lot in close proximity to itself, but how it's utilized here I just really enjoy.

Sarutobi Sasuke's Theme - Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROMWwxHIMow&fmt=18

Here is the second ninja theme I found that I liked quite a bit. This is the 'lowest' of the three I found on my like rating, but I still like it. There is a sound effect near the beginning that really reminds me of Izayoi Shrine from Okami, but the rest of the piece is nothing like any of that soundtrack, so go figure. Sasuke himself looks ridiculous, but from what I read on tvtropes, he sounds fairly cool. Unlike a certain other Sasuke...

Love-Colored Master Spark (South of Heaven Remix) - Touhou Project: Imperishable Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg322dxLmp4&fmt=18

It is no secret I really like Love-Colored Master Spark, so there should not be any surprise to the fact I like this version too. It keeps the same melody I like while changing it to a more, uh, "rock" version? I still like the original more, but this is darned good. Sort of a strange guitar solo near the end though, not sure if I really care for that. Keep that out and I would probably have more appreciation.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Sheik's Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3yfyv-GhMk&hd=1

So... I'm replaying OoT right now on my SHINY NEW 3DS, and I was extremely surprised when this, of all songs, was the one that really jumped out at me and stuck with me. It is extremely minimalist, which is honestly fine with me, especially after some of the stuff I've been posting recently. I think the idea is that this is supposed to be something Sheik actually plays on her little harp, which would explain the whole minimalism approach.

...One of the things I just completely missed my first time through Ocarina of Time, which I'm definitely picking up on now, is just how melancholic a lot of the scenes are. Especially the encounters with Sheik and the talks with the Sages. And this song captures that feeling. I wouldn't say this is a sad song; I would say it's a melancholic one. And yeah, I think there's a distinction between the two.

Sarutobi Sasuke's Theme - Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes

At least this a step forward from yesterday. Although, I'm almost afraid to think of what a step backwards would have been. 5.0/10.

Love-Colored Master Spark (South of Heaven Remix) - Touhou Project: Imperishable Night

At least this is pretty passable, making it a step forward in the category of "Touhou remixes" from yesterday as well. Kind of goes off the rails a bit at times in the second half though. 5.5/10.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Sheik's Theme

Man, Ocarina of Time has some fairly good songs too. 4.5/10.
