Battle For The Glory - Dragon Quest IV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVpLmv2r1p4

The original version of this piece, which I had not heard until now. Maybe because I have no nostalgia for it, I am not as fond of it as...

Battle For The Glory - Dragon Quest IV (DS)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKO1lArU1XI

Really cool fight theme IMO. I like the remix more than the original. Fitting for the fast feel to Dragon Quest's gameplay. Unlike most turn-based RPGs, I think this one does swift combat well. This track goes well with it.

Guess what? Was sick AGAIN yesterday. Thankfully I feel up to par now.

Let's "celebrate" the official release and unveiling of all of the Pokemon from Black and White with this:

Gym Leader Battle - Pokemon Black/White
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgnKhyOOAm0

Only piece I've heard from the game so far, but I actually like it quite a bit. If the others are up to par with this, I think we're in for a good soundtrack. I'm looking forward to hearing the Champion's theme this time.

I always dread this because now I have to avoid every topic, website, and anything else Pokemon related for the next ~8 months until the game's released in English.

Wow. Just wow. I was sick until yesterday. I will post two to make up for yesterday but holy cow I have been sick three times this month and the last one took about a week to get over. =(

September 25th:

The Moon Theme - DuckTales
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF32DRg9opA

I heard this theme first in I Wanna Be The Guy, which I have watched several amazingly humorous LPs of. It is incredibly catchy and probably one of my favorite NES pieces.

September 26th:

Electrical Tower - Mega Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns0NSzqnjvA

That's what I see it being called, anyway. I did a blind run of Mega Man recently for livestreaming lulz and found this piece to be my favorite of the batch so far. Really, really cool tune. Fitting that I like it, seeing as I like Elec Man (moreso in Battle Network and the anime but I digress).

Asuka Inn - Digimon World 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5tK-SW6va8

I actually never got a chance to own this game. It was one of the few I rented as a kid. I don't remember too much about it, but this piece always stuck out in my memories of it. I never knew what it was called, but I knew it played at the inn that, IIRC, a Gatomon ran. So I was able to get it off Youtube and learn its name at last. It's probably one of my favorite inn themes, but it really doesn't have much competition on that front.

We back.

Incidentally, I always planned to return; I just decided to be humorous/mean and, well, if you follow webcomics at all, you'll recognize that whole "say I'm back to a normal schedule and then abandon ship again immediately" thing. This is the kind of thing I find funny, probably because I'm a huge jerk. I also find it funny that I meant to return yesterday, it being the 1st of October, but I forgot that 30 days hath September, so, yeah, I'm a day late. I doubt it matters at this point.

11 Months - Shadow Complex
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue6TKUmG_5Q

Legitimate threats is gone / Legitimate heads to sing along...

Man, I think the last hip-hop and/or rap song I posted in this topic was Detonation, back in May! Too long, tbqh.

This is the second ending theme for Shadow Complex; this one plays during the alternate/joke ending, which involves
abandoning Claire to her fate. "Plenty of fish in the sea", indeed.
That ending's fun for a change but it doesn't really add much to the game, other than... this song, I guess, which I do like. I don't like it as much as Light of the Day/Dark of the Night; they'd be a lot closer, but at about 2:50 11 Months goes into a weird guitar instrumental type thing that doesn't really fit the song at all, at least in my opinion. And that hurts it a lot. I definitely like the song, though - it just needs to end about a minute sooner.

Daylight - Katawa Shoujo Act 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COsJGk-9GnQ

In all my gushing about this game, did I happen to mention its fantastic soundtrack? No? Then the only option I have is MORE GUSHING.

This is, as far as I can tell, the "midday theme" of Katawa Shoujo; it always seems to play around noon or a bit later. I'm not sure if it's because of the song itself or just its place in the game, but listening to this always evokes the feelings of a lazy afternoon - lazy in a good way. Speaking of lazy afternoons, Daylight sort of reminds me of a faster version of the Twilight Town theme from Kingdom Hearts 2. Not sure why. Might just be thematic similarities and nothing to do with the actual music.

At about 1:12 in Daylight, there's a very obnoxious off-key/record skip/some kind of sound effect. You can make the case that this is intentional symbolism, given the type of game we're dealing with here (a major theme of the game is that most of the characters look normal except for one thing that is "off" about them - i.e. Rin having no arms, or Hanako's huge scars) but honestly, even if it was put in for that reason, it still bothers me and drags the track down a bit.

Violet Sky - Hotel Dusk: Room 215
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CErqPU_s_u0

My favorite track from Hotel Dusk. I would call this the "breakthrough" theme; it plays whenever you've successfully interrogated a subject and probably solved some major personal problem of theirs, or at least reached an understanding. I think the first time it plays is when Kyle Hyde and Louie DeNonno decide to start working together, which is an awesome moment, and then it plays again at the end of nearly every chapter until the end of the game, as you end up helping everyone in the hotel, one by one.

Hotel Dusk is a very grim and gritty game on its surface, being modeled after film noir, but a recurring theme is that everybody has a reason. They might be misguided, or wrong, or stupid, but everybody has a reason, and they usually mean well. In short, that people are good, even if they sometimes do bad things. That little bit of idealism amongst all the cynicism goes a huge way, and I think this track perfectly captures it.

Akai Tsuki - Disgaea
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jran9nT3690&fmt=18

Akai Tsuki is... okay. It's got a sort of haunting quality to it, which works, and the vocals aren't irritating. Which is more than I can say for the English version. But, to be honest, when I played through Disgaea, I wasn't even aware this song had lyrics! The DS version was an instrumental that's quite different and, personally, I like it a lot more.

Red Moon (Instrumental) - Disgaea DS

...Unfortunately the actual tracks from Disgaea DS are impossible to find. I've tried, believe me. So, now you're getting this ridiculous cop-out where I don't even link to the piece I'm talking about! yay. It's a win-win. Well, almost, anyway. Instead, please enjoy this fanmade remix that is kinda sorta similar to what I'm talking about except not as good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO4_KjVch2g

Anyway, the DS version of Red Moon is slow, simple, melancholic, and above all else, haunting, even more so than the lyrical versions - I don't know how else to describe it. And it fits the scenes where it's played perfectly. It's funny, when I was playing Disgaea DS, I was sort of wishing Red Moon had lyrics. After hearing the two versions with lyrics, I backpedaled on that position rather quickly.

Dominance - Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvmIqks5wqI

The other day I ended up watching a video of RTK XI gameplay for some reason, and this track played during part of it, and I went, "damn, that is an awesome track that I should locate and then do a writeup for." So, I did. Ha!

Turns out RTK XI has a really good soundtrack! It surprised me a bit, for whatever reason. I haven't listened to it extensively, but this is probably my favorite from what I've heard. I wish I knew how to refer to the vocals for songs like this, but in any case, I really like them. They're very... I guess forceful and oppressive sounding, which would fit for what I assume is the "about to win" theme. I especially like the part at 1:04-1:30; it's a nice contrast to the rest of the piece.

And for the record, no, I have no idea what's going on in the first six seconds of this song, but I don't like it.

Severing the Chains of Fate - Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SEz3fJ_RJc
Stiles: I'm a doctor! I won't let this patient die!
[Stiles uses his Healing Touch; each time he cuts away one of Aletheia's "chains of fate", he or Angie delivers a message...]
Angie: For all the precious lives that GUILT took...
Stiles: For the hearts that were plunged into despair because of it...
Angie: For those who became prisoners to its promise of power, and fell into darkness...
Stiles: For our friends who confronted that darkness, without yielding to its overwhelming threat...
Angie: In order to stop this endless spiral of despair...
Stiles: For all the hopes and dreams of mankind...
Angie: ...And to prevent the same mistake from ever happening again! This is for everyone!
Derek: There should never be diseases that cannot be treated! We will eradicate GUILT with this!
[cuts last chain of fate; Aletheia explodes, completely annihilating GUILT forever]
You know, for how down I was on TC:UtK2, that scene was really, really awesome and almost made the whole game worthwhile. In fact, I like Aletheia in general a lot more than Savato. Most of that is just that Aletheia isn't made of hair-pulling anguish, but a small part of it is thanks to this track!

By the final mission, Derek Stiles has pretty much overcome all of his personal demons, and the idea is that, now, he's supposed to be absolutely unstoppable - and this track conveys that perfectly. I hesitate to even call this the "Aletheia theme" because, to me, it's more like the "Aletheia-is-about-to-get-owned theme".

Missed a day. lol whoops. Oh well, have two today. Sort of. They're both from the same game and pretty similar., but eh.

Shinra Company ~ Shinra's Theme - Final Fantasy VII
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bITrS-GQjAw

More FFVII music? A-yep. I like the game's soundtrack. Sue me.

I think xp called this the best track in FFVII, and in retrospect I'm likely to agree, though I still have a soft-spot for Birth of a God. It's definitely one of the best, in any case.

...You know, to me, the most compelling villain in FFVII was the Shinra Company and, by extension, the Turks. Retcons be damned, when I played FFVII, Sephiroth was some guy who went nuts, got controlled by an alien corpse, and then sat in a cave for the entire game. And Jenova was less a villain than a random encounter for how much she affected the plot outside of Sephiroth. On the other hand, we've got the crazy, extremist, corrupt president of an industrial corporation that is slowly killing the planet through pollution, something that succeeds at being terrifying not because it can't happen but because it can and does. His lackeys are paramilitary forces, scientists, and sharply dressed elite agents. And he's succeeded by a young, gun-toting prodigy who would rather ditch the manipulation and start ruling through fear simply because it's more cost effective. I'm sorry that I don't find "ancient evil accidentally released who tries to destroy the planet with a giant fuck-off magic spell" interesting by comparison.

Like with Magmoor Caverns in Prime 1, the sounds of this track evoke the pounding of machinery and the release of steam - and those sounds are married with an incredibly foreboding, nightmarish melody and vocals that I can't help but equate to screams of a mix of awe and horror. It fits the Shinra Company so perfectly, and to me, it's definitely one of the most memorable tracks in FFVII.

Infiltrating Shinra Tower ~ Shinra Building Theme - Final Fantasy VII
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpQ4F7B8GFg

While this track isn't as good as the previous one, it stands out to me for many of the same reasons. Oh, and because it plays while you climb the incredibly long stairs up the side of the Shinra Building. When you don't know what to expect, that's probably one of the most tense moments in the entire game... which is good, because it cancels out some of the mindnumbing tedium of having to climb that many flights of stairs.

Missed another day. I apparently suck at maintaining this thing now. lol me, etc.

Apprehension and Evasion - Half-Life 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlD5uvOt_Sw

This probably isn't my favorite Half-Life 2 track, but I absolutely cannot figure out what my favorite is called. It's the one that plays while you're fleeing from the attack helicopter in your hovercraft in Water Hazard, if anyone knows.

But anyway, this is my second favorite. I think it plays twice during the game at least, but I only care about one of those moments: it plays when you're singlehandedly launching an assault against Nova Prospekt, a heavily fortified prison/holding facility, using an army of antlions. Probably my favorite part of the game, which is saying something.

Apprehension and Evasion itself isn't the kind of music I generally listen to. I guess I'd qualify it as techno, which I know even less about than most other genres of music. I do like it though, and it definitely fits such an action-packed part of the game.

Title Theme - Mother
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIhO1dYJHsw

My second favorite track from Mother, after Pollyanna. I'd probably consider this one to be the more memorable of the two, though. Just the first few seconds of this piece have been deeply ingrained into my memory better than just about any other piece of video game music.

I've said repeatedly throughout this topic that slow and simple music really resonates with me, and this one really stands out for those qualities. The way it slowly builds up in complexity, without ever becoming overly complex, is really beautiful. I could see someone making the complaint that it starts out almost painfully slow, but I'd argue that that's to its benefit, because it helps contrast with the later parts of the piece.

E1M7 (The Crypts) - Heretic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk9WgyOHHwA

I've mentioned that I love Heretic's soundtrack, right? Luckily for you, if you don't like it, this is the last of its tracks on my list.

If E1M6 is about atmosphere/creepiness, and E1M2 is about tickety-tickety ticktockticktockness, this is a mix of the two with some tension thrown in. Which... means it sorta defaults to my third favorite, because master of none and what not. It's definitely a quality piece on its own, though.

I'll just put it out there: this is a scary track. When you listen to it, you get the feeling that something bad is going to happen. And, similar to E1M6, that's what makes it so good.

Generic Happy Music - Katawa Shoujo Act 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RWurcz39Bs

My other favorite from Katawa Shoujo is the unfortunately titled Generic Happy Music. Probably because the majority of the soundtrack is very simple, so this one stands out by being a lot more complex. Like I've said before, I generally prefer simple music, but I still consider this one fairly simple, just... more complex than the rest of the soundtrack! I particularly like the part that starts at 45 seconds.

As you might expect, this track plays during happy scenes. I mostly noticed it during the last few days of the week on Shizune's route, which I guess makes some sense, because Hisao tends to swing back and forth between "annoyed" and "happy" when around Shizune and Misha. But then, I think it plays all over the place, and I just noticed it during Shizune's route for some reason. So, whatever.

Miror B.'s Theme - Pokemon Colosseum
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAHHFc-gIeI

Here is a silly thing. Please enjoy the silly thing.

That said, I do enjoy this song, and I can safely say I've never heard anything like it in any other video game! That must count for something, right?

It also helps that Miror B. is the best character in Pokemon Colosseum. Because that's saying a lot. But, hey, anyone who fields four Ludicolo, has an afro dyed like a Pokeball, dances during battle, and still manages to be one of the game's more annoying boss fights is okay with me.

Honestly, I think I would like this more without the lyrics, but I'm willing to put up with them because they're part of what makes it so unique.

Cold Reception in Shiver City - Paper Mario
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Solt14yt1Y

Probably my favorite track from Paper Mario, though I can't remember much of the soundtrack and haven't sought it out recently or anything. Shiver City and the surrounding areas - that whole chapter, actually - was probably my favorite part of Paper Mario, so that helps too.

I'm not really sure why, but this always felt like a really appropriate track for a snow-themed area. It just works, for whatever reason. As for my favorite part, I'm definitely fond of the first 30 seconds especially. After that the track goes in sort of a different direction, and while it's still good, the first 30 seconds are what I think of when I think of this track. If that makes sense.

Not the Same - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWAnVLbaWX8

And I can only hold my breath / And start to die a lonely death...

...This one's sort of a stretch because I think it's just music that was licensed for use in THPS3, not actual THPS3 music, but hell, I think I've broken that rule before. And 99% of the YouTube comments are about THPS3, so I think I'm justified. Plus, this topic was for music I associate with video games, not strictly video game music, which is why I could justify using Ai no Uta, for instance. Don't expect anything from Guitar Hero though.

ANYWAY.

This is my favorite song from THPS3. I played most of THPS3 multiplayer, either in versus mode or cooperatively, switching off the controller. And I used to always annoy the friend I did this with, because I'd always want to put this song on, and he'd always want to put on I'm A Swing It by House of Pain, which is a terrible song about eating testicles or some such dreck. I think he only liked it so much because he knew I hated it.

I think this song can be described pretty aptly as "generic song about a failed relationship" but oh well. It's nostalgic for me, it's fun to listen to, and it's especially fun to play THPS3 to. Can't ask for much more.

Thunder Plains - Final Fantasy X
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k1CGUxespg&fmt=18

Hey, it's raining today (this is a rare occurrence where I live) and I'm playing FFX. I consider this a topical choice if nothing else!

And because I'm such a nice guy, I'm going to enhance your listening experience:

http://www.rainymood.com/

Just put that on at the same time.

Anyway, as you might remember from my Rainy Day writeup like a million months ago, I love the sound of rain, and this is just about the perfect piece to set to rain. It's very peaceful and relaxing, and the rain only adds to that. ...Of course, in FFX, it's set to a very much not-peaceful place, where you have to frequently dodge lightning, so... that's sort of a questionable choice. But eh.

MONDAY

Staff Roll - Mario Kart 64
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYwZT3CvpMw

I'd probably count this as one introduced to me by the VG Music contests on GameFAQs' Board 8. Even though I've played Mario Kart 64 a lot, I never paid much attention to it. Which is a shame, because it's absolutely stunning. There's constantly something interesting going on in this piece; that's probably the best way I can describe it.

It's weird, this really sounds like it should play during the ending of some amazing RPG or adventure game or something, not for the scene at the end of a racing game where you get a trophy. I'm not saying it doesn't work for that, I'm just saying, it's always seemed odd to me.

TUESDAY

Reset - Okami
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpuGNH75pUc

I'm not really sure what I think of this one. I guess the best way to describe it would be to say that it really reminds of some other song I've heard, probably an anime ED. And that's why I'm not sure about it. When I think "Okami" I don't think "anime ED music". The two don't work together. I'm sorry. I actually like the song, but it just doesn't do it for me as the credits theme for a game like Okami.

Reset (Thank You) - Okami
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRx9gnY0Mp0

All right, now we're talking.

Reset (Thank You) addresses my problems with Reset tenfold, and not only that, it's an absolutely gorgeous song in its own right. You do have to give it some time to get started, but once it gets going (over a minute in), oh man. So good. Incidentally, this track and The Sun Rises play during the same general area, but this one is much, much better. So, the next person to overrate The Sun Rises gets kneecapped. Fair warning.

I'm actually not sure if Reset (Thank You) is even a remix of Reset, now that I think about it. They really don't sound very similar to me. I dunno. But, oh well, what's done is done, I can't change this writeup now. It's impossible.

WEDNESDAY

Confronting the Menace - Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP4DMWZz0n0

Kenri's thought process:

*finishes an operation's objective*
Whew, that was pretty hairy for a minute there.
*game pauses rather than letting me end the operation*
...Oh dear.
*Confronting the Menace kicks in*
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

So, yeah, I came to dread this theme. It was never a good sign. Ever. And my rule of thumb is that good music is music that makes you feel something, even if that something is a negative feeling. I wouldn't characterize this as "scary" music, but it's definitely "things are taking a bad turn" music, and it works very well on that front. Just the first 18 or so seconds are perfect for surprise GUILT appearances.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5q4wDn8WPY

KDL1 is a really easy game, but King Dedede is a nasty, nasty boss. Especially compared to the game's other bosses. He basically has every power Kirby does, and then a whole lot of other ones. (Remember, this was before Kirby had copy powers.) And on hard mode, Dedede's health bar... it was either longer than the screen, or actually double the length it looked because each hit took two hits, or something like that. Some horrible, awful gimmick that made my younger self very unhappy. So I had to listen to Dedede's theme. A lot. (Incidentally, these days, I don't think that Dedede is really any harder on hard mode. You've either got the pattern down or you don't. If you don't, he WILL kill you. If you do, you can pretty much fight him indefinitely without taking damage. So yeah.)

Anyway, back to the music, the actual reason for the topic... I like it. It's probably my favorite track from KDL1. Very suitable for a final boss encounter. I also like that it plays for a little bit when Kirby first crashes his Warp Star into Dedede's castle on Mt. Dedede, then stops playing while you do the boss rush, then returns for Dedede's battle. Just a neat touch.

...Dammit, I should have put this off for a whole week so I could have completed the ATHF reference. Ah well. Just imagine I did.

Sorry. Again. I have been swamped with schoolwork. (Well, not so much "swamped" as "lazy", but same deal.) I do intend to provide make-up writeups for Friday through Monday, but for now, have a very special writeup:

I am the wind - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU0C1xHS8BI

Just like the wind / I've always been / Drifting high up in the sky that never ends...

This song gets a lot of hate for being out of place in Castlevania. While that's true, I don't think it's that out of place. The lyrics, at least, fit to an extent, which is more than you can say for a lot of ending themes. But still, I'm not gonna argue too much if you wanna say that this should stay out of any and all atmospheric gothic/horror action/platformer/RPGs.

That said, I like this song a lot! I've mentioned that I started this topic with a very, very short list of A material. This song was on that list. I also mentioned that this topic is by no means a list, as in, it's not a Kenri's Top X Favorite VG Musics topic. There are certain tracks I like more and others I like less, but if you asked me "what's your third favorite?" I'd just have no idea how to answer.

...Now, if you asked me "what's your absolute favorite?", then, well, you're probably looking at my most likely answer. That is not an objective ranking by any means. Just, this is the track that has resonated with me the most. I'm not even sure if this is a GOOD song at all, honestly - which I think echoes the sentiment I expressed just about every single time I've posted a song with lyrics, so yeah. How 'bout that.

A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup (Pumpkin Hill) - Sonic Adventure 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9U8q1NkDBo

I'm hearing someone saying "you a chicken, don't be scared" / It had to be the wind 'cause nobody wasn't there...

Halloween special. I love this song. If you don't love this song, I've got some words for you, because this song rocks. Is it cheesy and stupid? Yes. That's why it rocks. (Playing during Knuckles' best stage also helps!)

Whew, just listed everything I posted and found I've put up 102 original pieces (not counting remixes).

It's February 1st, may as well get back into posting here.

Unexpected Battle - Arc Rise Fantasia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBwYmG7bU2U

I ran into this trying to put a playlist for minor fights together. I don't know what exactly caused me to get so attached to it, but something sure did. This may be one of my favorite... generic boss themes, I guess you'd call it... ever.

Speak Up, Pup! (Shi-Long Lang's Theme) - Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMpj4ZKdYKY

Shi-Long Lang is the best character. The best characters always get the best themes (and that's saying something, because this game's soundtrack is A+++). I really wish this one had the properties of Trombe! so it would override every other song in the game whenever Shi-Long Lang was present. That's the only way to make it better.

Water Prison - Ys Origin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVL34JQkW6Q

I've never actually played a Ys game, though I've been interested enough to want to try. I actually ran into this piece while looking for other prison themes in video games (I've been making themed soundtracks to play during DnD sessions). It didn't fit that list, but I was amazed at how beautiful it was. It's apparently a dungeon theme and manages to mix fast-paced with lovely tones. If all Ys music is of this quality I really need to get into the series.

Conversation 1 - Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bugR0IK1hM

Fire Emblem 4 has an awesome soundtrack. And not only that, it's huge too. And this is the best track in the game, probably. If the name didn't tip you off, this is the generic theme that plays sometimes when you use the Talk command in battle, which I appreciate immensely, because conversation music in games is usually god awful, when it's included at all.

Having actually finished FE4 now, I'm editing this writeup because I didn't do the song justice with my old one. Now that I've finished FE4, I can say that Conversation 1 is a song about the futility of loyalty, the fragility of friendship, and the pointlessness of sacrifice. But it's also a song about the connections between people, the virtues of conviction, and belief in the ability to create a better future.

Conversation 1 resonates with me on such a powerful, emotional level that it ends up being one of my favorite songs of all time.

So, when I last left this topic, it was out of discouragement after commenting on other songs ground to a halt and so I felt no motivation for continuing.

Well, that ends now!

...For now.

We'll see what happens. >_>

Also, just so I don't seem hypocritical about this, I plan to go back and comment on every song I didn't comment on before. Could take a while though, but I'll try to have it done sooner rather than later.

I'm also not going to say I'll be on the old "once-a-day" schedule, because I don't know if that's true or not. I'm not sure how much material I'll really have, after all.

Anyway, let's get this going again!

Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica - EXEC_SPHILIA/.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMCOsNUBhdg&fmt=18

So, my first entry into this topic was Godsibb, at the time, my favorite. So it's only fitting that this begins with what is probably my new favorite, or at the very least, very close to it. EXEC_SPHILIA/. is one of very few songs I'd give a 10/10 to. When I first heard this play in Ar tonelico II, I knew this was probably going to be one of my favorites, and that turned out to be the case.

The battle this song plays in is likely my favorite battle in either Ar tonelico I and Ar tonelico II, the run-up to this battle is just great, though I'm sure most people probably wouldn't like this Phase of the game. This part of the game is right about where Ar tonelico II really started going for me and it doesn't really let up much afterwords, it's legitimately close to/borderline Top 10 for me, and might even have a shot at making the Top 10, it's that good.

And last, but not least, the Reyvateil who sings this hymn is by far the best character in both games. It's not even remotely close. Really probably the only character in both games who I'd say would have a very good shot at placing quite highly on a hypothetical VG character list if I were to make one. She single-handedly probably propels Ar tonelico II up a number of spots on a game list too. Such an awesome character, and an awesome hymn. Really, practically every hymn she has is amazing, but EXEC_SPHILIA/. is clearly above the rest.
