| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra - Testament http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAF3k7ak55U&hd=1 Fatal Fight was scheduled to show up here today, but well, we can all see how that plan went, so instead today is Testament. Testament is very good at what it does (for me), which is to set a mood of intensity and inevitability facing an opponent who is just on a completely different level from you. That said, I go back and forth on my own opinions on this song. Sometimes I think it spends a little too much time building up, other times I tell myself that's crazy and that the build up is better than most of the rest of the song and the biggest flaw is the part after the the initial build-up. Either way, I'm generally pretty set on what is my favorite part of the song, and that's 2:53 - 3:28. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | Man, Ocarina of Time has some fairly good songs too. 4.5/10. Already posted the only one better than Sheik's Theme though! Well, maybe a Zelda's Lullaby-related theme, but I doubt those do too well with you either! --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 41 New Moderator | Gale - BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ8egaXNlZg&fmt=18 Given xp and Kenri's remarks on Guilty Gear pieces, I highly doubt this will be received well. But I do not care because it is an awesome piece to me. My personal favorite of the three ninja themes I discovered myself liking, and appropriate. I have not played BlazBlue yet but when I finally get it, Bang is definitely going to be one of my mains. He is too hilarious and awesome to not use. Anyhow, piece wise, 0:54-1:19 is my favorite. There is one section sort of near the end that I do not like as much, but otherwise, it all works well. Oh yeah, the title for this has been seen as Gale and Reppuu, I assume Reppuu is the Japanese word for Gale. Either way... Rating: 8/10 Gale (Vocal) - BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6L_WbYGQ1I&fmt=18 Then I found this version and fell in love. I get the feeling this will get the "Burning Force" treatment in terms of people hating it, but screw it, this piece went crashing into my favorite male vocal pieces list. As a side note, the lyrics are hilariously awesome, which is fitting seeing as who it is for. Funny thing: where it is spelling out "S-I-SI-G-A-M-I", apparently that is correct despite his name being called "Shishigami Bang". Take it up with the people familiar in how Japanese kanji works, I saw some debates on it but it answered my question of "why does that spelling sound wrong" if nothing else. Rating: 8.5/10 - Hiroari Shoots a Strange Bird ~ Till When? (SJV-SC Remix) - Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2pfQeBdRXU So when my mom first heard the original, she was like, "I didn't know you listened to jazz!" I still do not get why she said that for the original, but oh the irony that I would come across this. I mean, a saxophone for this? Really? And yet somehow I like it. I hesitate to call it perfect sounding for the theme, but it is unique to hear. So there you go. Rating: 6.5/10 --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... | Level: 43 Editor | Funny thing: where it is spelling out "S-I-SI-G-A-M-I", apparently that is correct despite his name being called "Shishigami Bang" Okay, I think I can explain this... Might take me a while to get back to the main point here, though. I swear I'll get there eventually though. Say the words "pit" and "spit". You might notice that the p (or "puh" sound) is actually different between the two! Specifically, the former is aspirated and the latter is unaspirated. What this means is that when we say "pit", we accompany the "puh" sound with a puff of air. But in "spit" we don't. You probably didn't even notice until now that the two are actually different sounds! On the other hand, the difference between "den" and "ten" is obvious, right? "Den" and "ten" are what's called a minimal pair - two words with only one sound difference that prove that a language distinguishes between two sounds. If a minimal pair exists, the two sounds are contrastive, meaning that language's speakers notice a difference between the two. If no minimal pair exists, the two sounds are complementary, meaning that language's speakers notice no difference between the two. Even though in English, aspirated and unaspirated "puh" are complementary, they're contrastive in some other languages (none of which I can name off the top of my head). Well, it's the same with "s" and "sh" in Japanese. Those two sounds are complementary, while in English they're contrastive. We notice a difference between "shell" and "sell", but for Japanese speakers, "Shishigami" and "Sisigami" are the same! ...And now for Ogor to show up and tell me how wrong I am because I'm only basing this off a one-semester course that I took a year ago. <_< --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited March - Antimony ~ Mutually Exclusive Dichotomy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kgNKQYO7Zo&hd=1 Going from chilled out to significantly less chilled out, what we have here is a rather intense, fairly dark theme with an extremely laconic name. It's not really my type of music at all, but for some reason I find myself coming back to it every now and again. I think it helps that it is fairly dark, at least at points; it's also got a few more heroic sounding parts that in my opinion sound out of place and bring the whole thing down (one starts at 1:03). Thankfully those sections aren't very long, but I do wish they weren't there at all. As you might expect, my favorite sections are the ones like :24 to :40, where everything becomes much less cluttered, which also has the effect of making it sound more sinister, at least in my mind. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 41 New Moderator | That explanation rings true to some things I learned in Nature of Language, at least. NieR - The Wretched Automatons NieR seal of approval. This is interesting. The two parts are pretty distinctive and almost seem like a mood whiplash change when the vocals come in. Both parts are pretty good though. I think I prefer the vocals myself. With my bias, I suppose that is not a surprise. Good though, as expected with NieR. Rating: 7.5/10 Cheetahmen II - Cheetahmen II Theme What. Really. Augh. Sorry, not seeing the appeal here. It is better than the game itself but then again just about anything is better than the game itself. I still do not like it much. At all. And I have nothing else to add to that. Insert filler write up space in this place. Rating: 3.5/10 Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 - Divine Identity Did not expect another from this so soon. Another interesting piece, for sure. I prefer this to the normal battle theme because of the, um, 'atmosphere' I guess I would call it. It has a good pace despite seeming more 'quiet', though really I hesitate to use that word. I think it makes good final boss music. I sort of think of The Almighty in terms of tone, though when they are put side by side there really are no similarities other than that. Rating: 7.5/10 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Sheik's Theme True story: I considered posting this a while ago. But did not. Obviously. The problem with this piece is it is very short. I find it difficult to rate pieces as short as this. This issue has come up for me with the songs that Sheik teaches you, because with Link and Sheik playing together, they sound good, but are so darned short. This one does okay for as long as it lasts, I guess. Rating: 5/10 Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra - Testament Ah, another good Xenosaga III boss theme. The build up of this one has a questionable amount of build up time, yes. Thankfully, the build up itself is quality music. I loved hearing this ingame, it really fit the battle themes it went with and did not slow down the battles at all, as one might think it would just by listening to it. I personally like hearing it out of game too, though I could understand some conflict with that. Rating: 8.5/10 The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited March - Antimony ~ Mutually Exclusive Dichotomy King of Fighters? You serious? That may have been my first thought, but then I listened and was shocked at how much I agreed with Kenri's write up. The 'dark' sections he describes actually sound sort of mysterious to me, if mysterious can be well portrayed in music. The 'heroic' part is actually pretty cool, but the rest of it stands out a lot more to me. Honestly I like all of it a lot more than I thought I would. It makes me interested in where this plays. Can you imagine this being a character theme? It would make me want to know more about whoever it represented, if done well. Rating: 8/10 --- "That was pretty interesting. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Gale - BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Given xp and Kenri's remarks on Guilty Gear pieces, I'm actually pretty neutral regarding them, on the whole. I mean to be honest- I highly doubt this will be received well. -...But I could change that if it fits your view better? But I do not care well that has been apparent for some time before this because it is an awesome piece ...this sentence fragment seems to have gotten lost, because there's no way it can plausibly fit into this discussion. BlazBlue has better, as does Guilty Gear, this isn't bad, but it's not great either. 6.0/10. Gale (Vocal) - BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger ...Oh god, I almost started laughing when I heard the vocals. ...Just so we're on the same page, that is not a good thing. It's not actually the presence of vocals that bothers me, it's just the quality of the vocalist. I mean... what the... 3.5/10. Hiroari Shoots a Strange Bird ~ Till When? (SJV-SC Remix) - Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom ...This started off very promising. Then that saxophone had to crash the party. Actually, I'd like to amend that statement. The entire middle section of the song crashed the party. Really just most of the last two thirds of the song crashed the party. ...6.0/10. The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited March - Antimony ~ Mutually Exclusive Dichotomy ...what the. While I have no idea why you call them "heroic" those parts are probably the best part of this. Which is rather unfortunate because that's not putting the bar all that high. 4.0/10. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - Multiplexed Contradiction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Ymwk-41QQ&hd=1 So, this is the battle theme for the climactic battle of Chapter 4 of VP2, which is, in more ways than one, a pretty huge turning point in the game. Since attaching extremely vague "emotions" to these songs in these writeups is something I've been slipping into recently for some distressing, unexplainable reason, I'd say this also evokes a kind of "desperation" on the whole for me (though not as much as some others, see: The Enlarged Soul) but my favorite part is actually not one I'd put in that category. My favorite section is the one from 0:58 - 1:16, I also like the whole buildup to that section, which is practically the entire song before that point. I kind of wish the whole song was focused around that section, but alas, it is not. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | While I have no idea why you call them "heroic" those parts are probably the best part of this. The sudden raise in tempo and pitch, combined with the bigger emphasis on the electric guitar, is just something easily associated with heroic imagery; it's used for this purpose a lot, which is part of the reason I don't like those sections, they just end up sounding kind of generic. (The bigger issue is that they're out of place though.) How would you qualify it? --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | NieR - The Wretched Automatons Wretched Automatons is okay. It's Nier music. The instrumental parts are quite good, but as soon as the vocals start they just overpower everything else, as in pretty much every Nier song I've heard. 6/10 The Shooted (Original)- Dead or Alive 2 whyyyyyyyy the worst part is that this would actually be pretty okay if there wasn't so much ****ing unnecessary background noise 2/10 The Shooted (Dreamcast) - Dead or Alive 2 http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/1/949771_142647_front.jpg I actually take back what I said above, because the ending of this drops the background noise and is still intolerable. 1.5/10 The Shooted (Playstation 2) - Dead or Alive 2 http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/6237/1307175069159.jpg 1.5/10 Faith is for the Transient People (TAMUSIC Remix) - Touhou Project: Mountain of Faith ...This, though, is really good. You're right that the beginning is a bit slow, but I actually kind of appreciate the build-up. I think it works. 7.5/10, was very tempted to make that an 8, too. Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 - Divine Identity I'm not sure how to feel about this. It's okay and I don't mind listening to it, but it's got a LOT of disharmonious elements that just don't work for me. 5.5/10 Sarutobi Sasuke's Theme - Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes This is just... not my style. I guess it's okay though. 5/10 Love-Colored Master Spark (South of Heaven Remix) - Touhou Project: Imperishable Night ...Better. (Not better than the original Love-Colored Master Spark though.) Actually, the further this goes on the more I start wanting it to end, which isn't a good thing. <_< 5/10 Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra - Testament Testament is very good at what it does (for me), which is to set a mood of intensity and inevitability facing an opponent who is just on a completely different level from you. ...Something which stops being true in any way whatsoever the instant you enter an actual battle, but I digress. >_> I'm firmly on the side of Testament having too much build-up. About halfway in it hits its stride and is very good for a while, then starts like... building down, which is weird. Overall I like it well enough, though. 6/10 Gale - BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Well, this is sort of like... a lot of songs recently in terms of being an electric guitar-centric piece with a bunch of other **** happening too. It sort of bounces in and out of working for me and not working at all. I guess I end up thinking it's tolerable enough to listen to but not something I'd really come back to. 5.5/10 Gale (Vocal) - BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Better. At least until it starts to fall apart at the end there, but it still feels more "complete" than the non-vocal version. I also think the vocalist is pretty decent, dunno why xp thinks he's so objectionable. 6/10 Hiroari Shoots a Strange Bird ~ Till When? (SJV-SC Remix) - Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom I'm a bit more familiar with jazz than most other genres of music and this really doesn't sound like most jazz I've heard before. It's almost like a jazz/techno mix or something, not sure how I'd call this... though it certainly has heavy jazz elements. Anyway! I actually like it. Definitely better than the original version of Hiroari Shoots a Strange Bird. I think the jazz elements work very well to give it the same impact as the original while being less cluttered. 7/10 Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - Multiplexed Contradiction Definitely get the feeling of desperation, though it's mixed with something I'd associate more with like a prelude to battle/army marching kind of music, and I don't think the two blend too well. Each element works individually but it just doesn't come together for me. That said, it's not bad to listen to or anything. 6/10 --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 41 New Moderator | Soundtrack 23 - Theresia: Dear Emile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10B78igH5QI&fmt=18 This is actually the song that plays during the credits in Theresia. Theresia has mostly atmospheric music. On its own, the music is either terrible or mediocre, and in game... it is either terrible, mediocre, or somewhat good! There are a few pieces I like, to be fair, but they really fail to impress without context. As it is, this one interests me. The lack of instrumentals and the way the vocalists sound make it eerie to me, which is probably the point, seeing as this is supposed to be a tragic/horrifying game. Your milage may vary extremely on how this plays out due to your protagonist's dumb nature, but I digress. I should also note that I am not sure what language this is in, and I could not get an answer when I looked. Rating: 5.5/10 - Break the Angel's Wings - Tales of Symphonia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INXmxCla39o&fmt=18 I actually heard this a long time before this topic ever came about, but for some reason, I did not think to post it too. In any case, I adore Beat the Angel, so it is no surprise I like this. The original is better in my mind, but that does not take away from me appreciating this. 1:18-1:30 is my favorite part, though the main sections of it are also really good. | Level: 43 Editor | Soundtrack 23 - Theresia: Dear Emile I'm okay with this. The biggest flaw is just that it never really pops; if it did, it could get a pretty high score, I think. The sound quality is also kinda bad but what can you do. 5.5/10, a high 5.5 though. Break the Angel's Wings - Tales of Symphonia Not an improvement over Beat the Angel. | Level: 43 Editor | Top Gear Rally - Main Menu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7e3jrA2tZU&hd=1 This game, for whatever reason, actually has a good soundtrack. I could understand disliking it, but I think it's quite good, at least. This track is definitely either my favorite or second favorite on the soundtrack. It hits a lot of high points for me; for one thing, it's very clean and crisp and not cluttered sounding, which I appreciate. I'm not sure exactly how else I'd qualify it... it's sort of mysterious sounding, I guess, and maybe I'd throw out a description like "hauntingly beautiful" or some such, because that almost fits. I'm not sure, I really can't figure this one out. Really I'm not even sure where I could possibly see this being played in, for example, a movie. It doesn't really fit as menu music either, so it's just kinda weird on that front. I do think it goes on a little long, but for me it just kind of fades into the background, and it works really well as background music, so I don't even mind the length. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | How would you qualify it? It's just a faster, higher energy section. Nothing more, nothing less. Without context, that is. --- Soundtrack 23 - Theresia: Dear Emile This is kind of tough because I'm not sure how much of my criticism can be attributed to the poor sound quality. Like, I feel it gets annoyingly high pitched at times. And the vocals kind of... blend together at one point, in a not good way/ But how much of this is actually the song and how much is just the sound quality? Tough to say. I'm probably going to give it a break here and blame most of it on the sound quality, right or wrong, and say it's fairly okay on its own. Let's say 5.5/10. Break the Angel's Wings - Tales of Symphonia This has its own sound quality issues, but not on the level of the last one. Definitely not an improvement on the original. It has some fairly neat parts to it, but they feel overwhelmed by the decidedly inferior changes, IMO. I'll say 5.5/10 again. Top Gear Rally - Main Menu Ugh. This has some fairly good parts, but it has absolutely no reason for being over six minutes long. Although, I really want to say it loops once in there and that it's "really" only a little over three minutes long. I'm also counting Dancing Mad as one song for this, if you break it into its individual sections, Tiers 4 and 1 win this. Because like, this is extremely similar... just with music instead of symbols. If it's just the one, unique example that brings to mind a certain feeling or image or whatever, then I'd put it more on the "this song makes me feel x" side of things rather than being like... music-based symbolism. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 41 New Moderator | Two minutes late posting these, oh noes. Reminiscence - Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT9YFtJoD6E&fmt=18 I like a lot of the pieces in this game, but I think much of it comes from nostalgia. This one was my favorite when first playing, and now... ...Well, to be honest, it probably still is, though it runs close to some other themes. This one is notable to me because I rarely find myself particularly interested in music that plays during cutscenes of Fire Emblem games. This one did, for whatever reason. 0:32-1:02 is my favorite section, but all of it appeals to me in certain ways. There is also a sort-of-variation called Shattered Life, but I do not like it as much as this one. Rating: 6.5/10 - Summoner's Final Pact - Tales of Symphonia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pE6UBDpExs&fmt=18 This is a really weird remix for Fighting of the Spirit that I came across when trying to find Break the Angel's Wings on Youtube. It sounds pleasant, but I cannot even begin to imagine this ever playing in a fight. It is too soft and slow. On its own, I like it as a piece, and it offers an interesting variation from the normal Fighting of the Spirit. 2:08-2:29 stands out more to me because of the drums, they make a good addition. That middle section is pretty decent though, I'll give it that, but it's not worth enduring the rest of it. It's almost like someone took a wall of noise and then stripped out the actual noise, so it still sounds kinda jarring, but it also sounds incomplete. Then there's this one section near the end that's okay, but it's still just... bad... overall. 3/10 --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 41 New Moderator | Jurassic/Prehistoric Theme - Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke0_23qdneM&fmt=18 Since I am sure you have not gotten enough of Crash Bandicoot themes, here is a piece from the last of the trilogy on the Playstation 1. I was surprised when I heard this piece and realized that I liked it far more than I thought I had. Unlike previous Crash games, music is reused in certain levels due to them having the same 'theme', hence the title this got attached with. The xylophone is the reason I like it, mostly because of 0:07-0:48. The rest, while atmospheric to the levels, does not entertain on its own. Rating: 5.5/10 - Demon Vesper Final Battle (PS2) - Zwei!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecuqB_qfPgQ&fmt=18 Thanks a whole lot, Youtube, I would have liked to have known this existed before I posted just the PC version. As it stands, I actually do not like this as much as the PC or PSP versions because there are less bagpipe parts. Otherwise, it has a better sound quality and such compared to the PC version. It sounds good and probably, from an objective standpoint, is better in quality. But since I prefer the other two, it is a bit lower in my score. Rating: 6.5/10 Demon Vesper Final Battle (PSP) - Zwei!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrXCQXmbZxY&fmt=18 Honestly, this one sounds quite similar to the PC version I posted. I can only see that this version is crisper in sound, the rest seems pretty similar as a core piece. So with those improvements, it gets a boost in score. | Level: 41 New Moderator | Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - Multiplexed Contradiction Huh, now that I think about it, it has been some time since we had one of these. As expected, it is good. I have a harder time picking out a favorite point, overall it holds strong portions that lack one being of extremely high caliber in comparison. Sort of a generic response, but so far I have enjoyed all of the Valkyrie Profile pieces posted, thus this should have been expected. Rating: 7/10 Top Gear Rally - Main Menu xp thought I would like this. ...xp was wrong. It has some possibly good ideas, and for the first while, they might work. But it never goes anywhere (been a while since I brought that card out), and I get bored with it fairly quickly. A few sections might stand out, but six minutes is really, really pushing it for a piece like this. I wanted it to end far sooner and it did not obligate to my request. Rating: 4/10 Final Fantasy VI - The Decisive Battle Of course. I never got the hype for this. Is it okay? Yeah, I was fine with it ingame. It manages to be better than just decent. But people praise this as one of the best battle themes and it leaves me baffled. Then again, with xp's criteria being only 2D Final Fantasy Battle Themes... If you leave Final Fantasy Tactics out of that, I guess that has some potential. I have barely played any 2D Final Fantasies though, so my experience in that is limited. But in comparison to other battle themes, my gosh, this gets blown out of proportion so much. Rating: 6/10 F-Zero GX - Captain Falcon Theme What. As tempting as it is to leave my writeup at that... This is just strange. The lyrics kind of creep me out, it sounds more like a Captain Falcon fanboy is singing about him rather than being a theme about the character. Then again, considering how his popularity came from legions of fanboys, hey, maybe it has some truth! The vocalist is okay, some parts are better than others, there are some I dislike including that one static section, and... it all averages out, I guess. Also, I want a Brawl/BlazBlue crossover for Falcon vs. Bang. Rating: 5/10 --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

As xp said, it might loop somewhere, I'm just really bad at telling. Jurassic/Prehistoric Theme - Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped haha what the. This really feels... incomplete. I keep waiting for some other instrument to come in, or something that would just make it sound less... bare bones. I guess it works adequately as music for a prehistoric-themed level, but eh. 3/10 Demon Vesper Final Battle (PS2) - Zwei!! I actually think (this version of) this is really good. I originally just thought it was okay, but then it grew on me over time. LOVE that section at 1:36 through 2:20; in fact that (and similar sections) are like the whole reason I like this, though the rest of it is still okay. I have no idea how this works as a battle theme, but eh. 7/10 Demon Vesper Final Battle (PSP) - Zwei!! Better than the PC version at least. I mean, it's still sort of a mess, but at least the quality isn't ****ing awful. 5/10 --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - The Tower of Dawn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AktWhmqUSg&hd=1 Stolen from VGMusic of the Day (as you can probably tell). They posted it, I immediately fell in love with it. It happens. Was going to wait to post this until I actually played Sands of Time, considering I own it, but ahahahahahahahahahaha can't even finish that thought. Anyway, I think this is a pretty cool song with a style of vocals that I tend to enjoy whenever I hear it (which is definitely more common in movies than games, at least in my experience). Really like how the song constantly builds up, too; that's rarer than you might think, and I usually appreciate a song that does it whenever I come across one. Actually, I think my biggest issue with Tower of Dawn is that it's just too short; at a minute and a half, it feels like it's barely gotten started and then it ends. Really would like if it went on for another minute or so, but what can you do. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Reminiscence - Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword Eh... I don't not like this, but I also don't particularly like it either. 4.5/10. Summoner's Final Pact - Tales of Symphonia Eh, this is okay I guess, but it's kind of in the same boat as Reminiscence. 4.5/10. F-Zero GX - Captain Falcon Theme This... is actually better than I thought it'd be. Better when the vocals are going though. 5.5/10. Jurassic/Prehistoric Theme - Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped Eh... see what I saying before, but less positively! 4.0/10. Demon Vesper Final Battle (PS2) - Zwei!! Suddenly I regret even mentioning this, even though it's almost sure to be the best song in this entire bunch. 6.5/10. Demon Vesper Final Battle (PSP) - Zwei!! See, because now there's stuff like this. This is back to being a mess like the other one was. 4.5/10. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - The Tower of Dawn ...Hmm. This is strange, this is above-average at what it does, probably, if only by a bit. But it really feels like it ended at the halfway point... if even that. I'll say 5.0/10. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Kingdom Hearts II - Darkness of the Unknown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rh6wmLE8FU&hd=1 The final battle theme of KH2. You know, I used to hold this is a lot higher esteem among KH-series songs back when I had only played KH1 or KH2. Since that time however, it feels like every KH game I've played has had a better final boss theme, if not other superior battle themes. I still do like this though, and it's top-tier sections are among the best in the series IMO, it's just a shame it doesn't spend more time there. My favorite part of the song plays towards the end at 3:03 - 4:06. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom - The Doll Maker of Bucuresti http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVhtS5cjAv0&hd=1 Back to Touhou, this is a stage theme I like a fair bit, although it has some noticeable weak points, IMO. Mostly, I just prefer the beginning of the song over the rest when more instruments and effects come in. However, I wouldn't really call it cluttered even then, I just prefer the other section. As for my favorite part, that would be 0:00 - 0:50, with special mention to the "quieter" parts like 0:28 - 0:32 and parts like it. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | Aquaria - Technique (The Cave) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmyJkDsekrs&hd=1 Couple notes first of all. 1. Game data refers to this song as "cave". I dunno where Technique (The Cave) comes from, but I'm inclined to stick with it because it's less dumb. 2. The quality here is kinda bad. I have the actual .ogg files which sound better, but I'm too lazy to attend to this matter personally, so you'll just have to deal with it. 3. The song loops like three and a half times in that link, and I can confirm this because I have the actual file. Yay, PC games. With that out of the way... This is almost certainly my favorite song from Aquaria, a game with a fairly mixed bag of a soundtrack. I really like a handful of tracks and the rest are just sorta there. My actual favorite might be Worship 5, but I'm not sure whether that even counts; it's sort of a Dancing Mad situation where is it one song is it multiple songs who knows. As for Technique (The Cave), I instantly loved this song as soon as I heard it. It originally plays in the Song Cave, an area early in the game, but it then reappears a number of times throughout the game, usually when you're exploring some optional side area. And for whatever reason, it just perfectly captures that feeling of exploring a new, unknown place and not knowing what to expect; all you really know - and all the music tells you - is that the place you're exploring is important, somehow, in some way. Just a really cool feeling, and one of those weird examples of a song that evokes something halfway between an emotion and an image. For me, of course. I make no claims for anyone else. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. It might do something unfortunate to you." ~from the first Summoner's Seal topic |
