| Level: 41 New Moderator | xp just showed me EXEC_SPHILIA/ last night. I very, very much like it. =D Can't wait to hear it in context. The Dry Wind Blows Over You - Wild ARMs 5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2sTGnTqtKw When looking for good world map themes, I came across this. Wild ARMs 5 is another game I own but haven't actually played yet. XF had very good music though, so I'm not surprised that this piece is awesome. It's one of my favorite world map themes so far. 0:50-1:18 is definitely the best part to me, but it's all spectacular. --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | All right, going to put the comments inside spoiler tags so they can be "skipped" if you like, because otherwise there are so many. Also, I find it mildly amusing how much "harsher" I've become regarding VGMusic. I have a feeling if I did this a few months ago, everything would be adjusted up quite a bit. >_> Also, most of the comments are very short. Sorry for that, but when there are so many, that just kind of happens. If you want me to comment more specifically on a few songs, you can let me know, but trying to do it for all, or even most of them, would just be insane.
Route 2 - Pokemon Red/Blue ...I'm going to regret this whole "go back and comment on everything I didn't" aren't I? Because this is not a good start at all. Really the best part is how short it is. Meteos Credits: End of the Universe - Meteos Well, this is an improvement at least. However, that's about all I can say, because there really isn't anything else positive I can say about it! Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - Bloody Tears yesssssssssssss Now here we have a genuine quality song! Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Bloody Tears Link went down. However, finding another version of it reveals this is probably a better version of Bloody Tears. Smash Brothers Melee - Saria's Song I never really liked Saria's Song as much as other people. As far as OoT Ocarina Songs my favorites are Requiem of Spirit, Nocturne of Shadow, and Song of Storms. I also prefer the OoT version of Saria's Song to SSBM, but that wouldn't make a huge difference here or anything. Resident Evil 2 - Screaming Target Eh, nothing too special here. Still better than Route 2 though! Koudelka - Waterfall This is pretty good though. Not as awesome as Bloody Tears, but still very nice. Sweet Home - Battle Theme This though is just pretty much great. (Assuming the Battle Theme is the first minute or so.) Very close to Bloody Tears. FFVI - Shadow's Theme Nothing against Shadow's Theme, but when it comes to FFVI Character Themes, Edgar and Sabin win hands down. Shadow's Theme isn't bad, but nothing too special, IMO. Kagero - Deception 2 - Visitor This one isn't bad though, kind of short though, and because of it I feel like had it been longer it could have tried to go somewhere, but eh. Lost Courage - Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 Pretty great song right here. I don't really have any criticisms here! Honestly, might be the best challenger to Bloody Tears yet! Might even win! Ai no Uta (Song of Love) - Pikmin Uh-oh. Never really liked this song. Still probably better than Route 2, but meh. Northern Country Kamui - Okami This is pretty good. Not on the current "top tier," which at the moment is something like Lost Courage/Bloody Tears/Battle Theme (Sweet Home), but maybe the tier below that. Delfino Plaza - Super Mario Sunshine Well, at least things didn't regress all the way back to Ai no Uta, but yeah, I don't very much like Delfino Plaza. Legend of Dragoon - Boss Battle theme Another case of "pretty good" but still safely outside the top tier. Secret of Mana - Dark Lich Hmmm... not too sure what I think here. Not bad or anything, but also not too good either. Suikoden 2 - The Beast This is good, but still falls outside of great. FFT - The Pervert Yeah, can't say I'm a fan of this particular FFT Battle Theme. Especially when there ones like Antipyretic and Remnants around. Pyrite Town - Pokemon Colosseum Well, at least this Pokemon entry is better than Route 2. I mean, I still wouldn't call it great or anything, but after Route 2 I was preparing for the worst here! Main Theme - Clock Tower While this is kind of good, it's limited for me in that it doesn't really go anywhere. What it has is good, but... yeah... Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams - Promise (Reprise) Yes, finally! Something I can use the word "great" for again! Definitely one of the best of this group so far. Possibly the newest entrant into the current top tier. Rainy Day - Animal Crossing ...and it all comes crashing down again. Still, Route 2's perfect defense of "worst in the topic for the entire time through this" remains untouched. And really Rainy Day probably isn't even Bottom 3 so far. I think. Jeanne-Leanne - Jeanne d'Arc Eh, another case of "Nothing really bad, bot nothing really good." Escape from the City - Sonic Adventure 2 Link is down, but having played SA2, I've obviously heard it many times. Ahahahaha yessss. Now SA2 is no masterpiece, but I don't hate it like some people do. Still nowhere even close to the better songs so far though. Tetyth - Riviera: The Promised Land This is pretty good though. Ar tonelico - EXEC_PURGER/.#MISHA extracting Link down again, but since I've played Ar tonelico I and II in the meantime, I've heard this. Although, strictly speaking this version of EXEC_PURGER only plays if you make a certain choice. Which you shouldn't make because EXEC_PURGER/.#AURICA extracting is superior! Still, being a Hymn, this song still is far superior to most other songs in general. Honestly, probably the best song so far, which feels funny because there are a lot of hymns I'd take over EXEC_PURGER/.#MISHA extracting, but as I said, in general they'll be better by default than most songs. As a side note, I had a heck of a time figuring out the title for this song. I went with the one in the video, but if anyone finds a more definitive/better one, feel free to shout it out. Pretty sure I'm giving the "correct" one. PAJA is the JPN version of PURGER and obviously Misha's name changes, but I think this is right. Pursuit ~ Cornered 2002 - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attornery: Justice For All What the. Not what I was expecting, and yes, inferior to other versions of Cornered I'd heard. Epsilon-1st Movement - Mega Man X: Command Mission ... ...does EXEC_PURGER already have a challenger? This is top-tier right here. ...I don't know which I'd take 1v1. ...It might be this one. Suffice to say this and EXEC_PURGER are the new top tier, pushing everything else down one. Actually, as I get near the end, I think EXEC_PURGER might barely take the lead again, but both are excellent. Pollyanna - Mother This is a great song too. In fact, in SSBM whenever I played on Onett (or whatever it was called), I made sure I switched to this music, because the SSBM version was probably the best song in the entire game. POLLYANNA (I BELIEVE IN YOU) - Mother This is great too, but the vocals limit it slightly. I mean don't get me wrong, the "This is great too" is made accounting for the vocals, but I feel like they hold it back slightly. Would take the SSBM version over both here, but they're all great. Proud Soldier-Gage - Advance Wars: Days of Ruin Continuing this remarkable stretch of great songs is this. Might be a step below the last few, but still quite good. Platinum Lucifer (Excellen's Theme) - Super Robot Wars: Original Generation Oh man, this had a shot at some real greatness, but then misses it, so it has to "settle" for simply being another "quite good" song. And yes, that first 5 seconds is where it happens. I heard that and thought, "Oh dear, the top tier may have another entry/be overthrown," but then the rest of the song happened. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Dark World Never was a fan of Dark World, especially in contrast to the LttP Light World Overworld. Stickerbush Symphony (Bramble Blast) - Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Though Dark World may have ended the streak of great songs, Stickerbush Symphony could easily start it up again, being a great song itself. Wouldn't say it's top-tier material, but it's close. Maybe the tier below it, where Bloody Tears and the others are now sitting. Faith is for the Transient People - Touhou Project: Mountain of Faith Quite good, but another case of "safely outside the top tiers," though admittedly that should theoretically become harder to break into the further along this goes as new tiers get created and so on. Keep the Faith (Silver Forest Remix) - Touhou Project: Mountain of Faith This is definitely superior, still don't think it makes the top-tier, but gets pretty close, maybe the second tier, or possibly even forming its own new second tier. Rune (OP) - Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon Not bad, but I'm not sure I'd go any further than "good," if I'd even go that far. Still Alive - Portal Never was as much of a fan of Still Alive as most either. It's okay, but nothing amazing, IMO. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne - Fiend Eh, another case of "not really bad, but not really good" for me. An Empty Tome - Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia Eh, it's good, I guess, but nothing too special. An Empty Tome - Castlevania: Judgment Not as good as the previous version, IMO. Star Wolf Theme - Star Fox 64 Kind of like the first version of An Empty Tome, but I preferred that to this by quite a bit. Star Wolf Theme - Star Fox Assault Better than the previous by a little bit, but still safely below both versions of An Empty Tome. Rainbow Cloud - Pokemon Snap The best Pokemon related one yet, I think, this would be the 3rd, right? But still nothing I'd call great. Track 13 - Scribblenauts Not bad, but again, nothing too special. Semi-Final Battle - Pokemon Colosseum Link was down, so I'm hoping I found the right song here. Anyway, the "zone of mediocrity" continues as yet again I can't bring myself to say anything much besides, "Not bad, not good." Hey, I'm frustrated that that's all I've had to say for a while now too! Butterfly - Fatal Frame 2 I think this song finally breaks out of the aforementioned zone. Not sure if I'd say "great," but "pretty good" is such a relief after this whole stretch. Blue Rogues' Theme - Skies of Arcadia Uh-oh, back to the zone of mediocrity we go. So this time I'm going to theorize as how this came to be. The simplest explanation is that I simply don't care much for this past stretch, but I'm almost wondering if the bar for "good/great/etc." is rising as this goes on and the better songs come in every now and then. Mind you, I don't think this saves many of them from "the zone" but I was wondering to myself if Butterfly would have had a more positive review if it had occurred earlier. Granted, the trade off would be watching as songs like EXEC_PURGER kept pushing it further and further down, but eh. Battle 5 - Saga Frontier Oh, hey! This is pretty good! Again, not great, because I feel like it squanders some potential, but still pretty good. Tactics Ogre - Prepare to Take to the Field Back to the cases of "Not bad, not good." The Cathedral (E1M6) - Heretic Slightly above average, I guess. The Enchanted Cathedral - Hexen 2 Honestly not sure which one I like better, kind of close here. To a Distant Land - Riviera: The Promised Land Another case of the link being down and me hoping I have the right song. Back to average in any case. Champion Cynthia (Before the Battle) - Pokemon Diamond/Pearl What. Well, not the worst Pokemon one, but definitely not the best. Probably 4th place out of the ...5, so far, I think? Strange Wind - Phantom Brave One of the better songs since we entered the Zone of Mediocrity, a zone which I don't think I can say we've safely left yet! However, still nothing I'd call great. Final Bowser Battle - Super Mario Galaxy 2 Another "Link down, hope I have the right one." You know, from everything I've heard from both Galaxy soundtracks, I have no idea how they're so highly regarded! This might be the best I've heard from them, and that's just... not that encouraging. Because this one is still firmly in "The Zone." Ushiwaka's Dance-Playing With Ushiwaka - Okami Sometimes I have to wonder if any song will get out of "The Zone." At first I thought the "highlight storyline" would be "Will anything challenge Route 2's defense of its position" but now it is "Oh man, can we get out of The Zone." Again, this is nothing I'd call special. The Smile of You - Elebits Hey! This right here! This might be the best chance for escape from The Zone yet! I mean, again, I feel like "great" would be a stretch, but this feels like perhaps the best yet in the Zone. The Smile of You (Japanese version) - Elebits Yeah, I think I might like this one a bit more too. Beyond the Colosseum - Demon's Crest Could... Could we be out of The Zone? Because I definitely like this. I mean, again, it's limited because I feel it doesn't do too much, but it's great with what it does. Roper (Stage 3) - Battletoads & Double Dragon Hey! This is good too! Again, not great, but I have a feeling that as I've gone on I've more strictly defined how I'm rating these and so what comes off as me being "harsh" is more me being "consistent" with that, and "great" being a pretty high threshold, that if I went back to the beginning of the comments might show up a bit less. U.N. Owen Was Her? - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil I'd probably classify this as pretty good, not sure I'd go any higher really. Sweet Little Sister (Silver Forest Remix) - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Another case of "Link down, hope this is right" I think I might prefer this version a little bit more, but it's close. Scramble Girl (Next Flower Remix) - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil I think this is my favorite of the three, maybe. I feel like it would depend on my mood at the time. Rainbow Road - Mario Kart 64 Eh... Not too much of a fan of Rainbow Road. Beauty and the Shining Sword - Wild Arms XF Pretty good, but under U.N. Owen Was Her?, IMO. Bowser's Road - Super Mario 64 Not bad, but nothing special really. Does have some neat parts to it though. Road to Bowser - Super Mario Galaxy 2 I actually like SM64's version a bit more, but it's nearly a tie. Super Mario Galaxy - Bowser's Galaxy Reactor Eh, prefer both of the previous Bowser songs to this. X vs. Zero - Mega Man X5 Pretty good, but X vs. Zero is another song I'm pretty sure I don't like as much as most people. Midna's Lament - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Midna's Lament is a very good song though. House of Cards - Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean Huh. This is... different. I'd put this under average, maybe just a shade above that.
--- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Okay, continuing on!
We last left off having escaped the dreaded Zone of Mediocrity, but what new territories will we enter? Let's find out! For the record, as of right now, I'd probably say the Top 3 are: 1. Ar tonelico - EXEC_PURGER/.#MISHA extracting 2. Mega Man X: Command Mission - Epsilon-1st Movement 3. Touhou Project: Mountain of Faith - Keep the Faith (Silver Forest Remix) And Route 2 is still maintaining its "defense." So, let's do this! Fierce Fight (PSP Remix) - Riviera: The Promised Land A much better start than last time with Route 2, this is pretty good. Fierce Fight - Riviera: The Promised Land Hmm, first impression was I liked the other version better, but I think it's a lot closer now. Light of the Day/Dark of the Night - Shadow Complex Let's say average, because nothing about this struck me as too impressive really. Boss Battle 3 - Legend of Dragoon Slightly above average, had some parts I liked, but again, didn't really seem to go anywhere really to me. Baba Yetu - Civilization IV ...I forget the last time I used "great." I finally can again. Baba Yetu is probably in the top tier, I don't think I'd take it over EXEC_PURGER but I definitely could depending on my mood. Chozo Ruins [Hall of the Elders] - Metroid Prime Metroid Prime has some quality songs, but Hall of the Elders isn't one them, IMO. Not bad or anything, but it's just... kind of there. Half-Life: Surface Tension Not bad, but again, I feel like there are things this song could have done, that it just didn't. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - Vehement Rage Eh, can't say I'm much of a fan of this. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne - Battle (Amala Network) This, however, is a lot better. Pretty good song right here. Megaman Legends 2 ~ Duel with Bola Not too bad Megaman Legends 2 ~ Mandi Ruins Boss Hmm, preferred the last one to this. Megaman Legends 2 ~ Battle with Geetz This is quite good, definitely my favorite of the three so far. Megaman Legends 2 ~ Round 1 with Sera Hmm, it definitely has some neat parts, particularly those "not quite vocals," but I'd say it's definitely well below the last song. Megaman X 3 - Zero's theme Pretty good, probably my second favorite of the now 5 MM songs in a row here. Megaman X 3 - The Junk Factory Another case where it has some neat parts, but I'd put it below some of the other MM songs here. Megaman X ~ Dr. Light's theme Hmm, in good conscience I can't place this too highly because it's one of those songs that doesn't really go anywhere. It is pretty neat at what it does do though. Megaman X5 ~ Dr. Light's theme While at its core, this has the same issues as the MMX version, I definitely like this version more. Megaman ~ Yellow Devil ...While normally I'd say this also has that same issue, for some reason I don't mind it as much here. Megaman X 5 ~ Shadow Devil Hmm, think I preferred the other version more. But I feel like this is an exceptional case, normally I think I'd like the changes made here more than the original. Weird. Shadow Hearts Covenant ~ Vicious 1915 Hmm, this one ranges from above average to pretty good for me. I feel like it misses some potential here, but then there are some parts it does have that are pretty good. Shadow Hearts Covenant ~ Hardcore to the Brain Not bad, definitely a different kind of song. Main Theme & Overworld - Super Mario Bros. One of the few times nostalgia could try to influence my rankings here, but I've been trying my best to remain consistent and to keep my scores reasonable instead of just giving everything high scores, so I'm going to leave it at "pretty good." Platforms-A-Plenty! - Super Mario Sunshine Now, I won't deny this definitely is different and tries some pretty neat things, but I have to say I prefer the original here, and I honestly don't think it's nostalgia, but it may be playing a part. Wind Nocturne - Lunar: Silver Star Story Not one of my favorites from Lunar: Silver Star Story, but it's definitely not bad or anything. Nocturne of the Wind - Lunar: Silver Star Harmony Probably not as good as the original, but eh. Wind Nocturne (Japanese) - Lunar: Silver Star Story Definitely my favorite of the three versions. Lunar 2 - Fierce Battle I am kind of regretting not trying to get a X/10 numbering system going here, because this is definitely a quite good song, but I feel like that term is becoming depreciated even though I do have pretty consistent - I think - definitions of when and where I use the different terms, but I'd like to say this is probably one of the better of the songs I've called "pretty/quite good." Lufia 2 - The Mysterious Lady Not bad, but again, I feel like it wasn't doing too much. Lufia 2 - The Last Duel Now this. This right here is a great song. Not top tier, but maybe the second tier. Lufia 2 - Boss Battle! This is also quite good. Not as good as The Last Duel, but still good. Lufia 2 - Gate of Journey Same issue as the first of the Lufia 2 songs, doesn't really do too much, IMO. Boss - Magi Nation Hmm, can't really say much about this either. Nothing too special, IMO. Aquatic Ambience - Donkey Kong Country Eh... not bad, but again, nothing too special. Stickerbush Symphony is the clear leader of the DKC songs I've heard. The Dungeons (E1M2) - Heretic Hmm, overall, I'd say nothing special, but I will say it has some parts that seem like they could take the song somewhere better, but it just doesn't happen. Champion Cynthia - Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum At the beginning I thought this would actually be able to beat the other Pokemon themes, but then it went downhill. And started taunting me with more "neat sections that could have made the song better, but didn't." For the record, this means that the leading Pokemon song is still from Pokemon Snap. Prayer - Endless Ocean Link was down, so I'm hoping I have the right song here. Well, my opinion on this varies a bit back and forth. It's pleasant and all, but I don't think I can go any further than "pretty good" here. Which again, isn't a terrible thing, my standards for using "great" are pretty high here. Influence of Truth Appearance - Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Hmm, this definitely has some pretty good parts to it, but the whole song? Let's say some strange area between above average and pretty good. Sunset Park Act 3 - Sonic Triple Trouble This is definitely a pretty good song. Sonic Triple Trouble is probably the best of the GameGear Sonic games I'm going to be totally controversial and say Tails Adventure. ...Although that'd probably change if I for some odd reason made myself play them all again. I don't think this is my favorite track from the GameGear Sonic games - that would probably be Final Act from Sonic Chaos There's this song in Sonic 1 Game Gear, like... Sky Base, or something like. Great song right there. That'd be my favorite Sonic Game Gear song, off the top of my head, at least. Underworld - Kid Icarus Eh... nothing special here. Underworld (Kid Icarus) - Super Smash Brothers Brawl ...The Brawl version is probably better, which would make this perhaps the only thing Brawl did positively, I think! Dry Dry Desert Trek - Paper Mario Eh, nothing special here either. Paper Mario has much better. Lazy Afternoons - Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories I never really liked Twilight Town's Theme, and the GBA Version is worse than the KH2 one. At least it's better than Traverse Town though. Lazy Afternoons - Kingdom Hearts II Same as above, but this being the KH2 version, it is the superior version. Lazy Afternoons - Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories I think they're practically the same version as KH2, so yeah. Doll Master - Threads of Fate ...Huh. Another different kind of song, and again, I can't really say I'm a fan of it. Realm Overworld - Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Eh, it's not bad, but really that's about all. Above average at most, really. Victorian Fear - Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin My first impression was "pretty good," but as the song went on, it started going down in my mind. A Nightmare on Elm Street ~ Encounter with Freddy ...Well, there's not much here for me to comment on, really. >_> Tetris A Type - Tetris Not bad, but again, nothing special. I do like some parts in it though. Tetris A Type - Super Smash Brothers Brawl I feel like this is more "erratic" in quality. That is, its best parts beat the original, but its other parts... I'll give the "win" to the original, I guess. Contra 3:Alien Wars ~ The Final Gauntlet Eh, my favorite part was the 2nd "part" to it. Combatribes - The Slaughter Troops/M. Blaster First part was kind of neat. Didn't care for the second part though. Yoshi's Island ~ Big Boss fight I like a lot of things this song tries to do, but at the same time, I feel like it doesn't put it all together well. Or something. I feel like I should like this more than I do, given how I think some parts have potential. Super Metroid ~ Red Soil This is pretty good, has some nice sections to it. Super Metroid ~ First series of bosses Link was down, so I'm hoping I've got the right song here. While it has some nice parts to it, I can't say I'm too big a fan of it. Chrono Trigger ~ Battle with Magus But this is a great song. Aww yeah, Magus. Best battle theme in Chrono Trigger without question, nothing else even comes close. 7th Saga ~ Dungeon Theme Hmm, at first I had a bad feeling about this, but it does get considerably better. 7th Saga ~ Boss Theme Definitely preferred this to the Dungeon Theme. Ragnarok - Labyrinth Link was down, hoping this is the right one. This was pretty good. Ragnarok - Peaceful Forest Hmm, not sure if I liked this or Labyrinth more. I'll say Labyrinth. Ragnarok - Morroc ...Same here actually, I think I'd take the previous two over this though. Ragnarok - Fear Liked the previous three more than this, I think. Ragnarok - Aeon This may have been my favorite of the five, I dunno, it's close. Final Fantasy VI - Dancing Mad My stance on Dancing Mad has typically been: Tier 1 - Awesome Tier 2 - Eh... Tier 3 - Eh... Tier 4 - Beyond Awesome Overall it's great, but Tiers 2 and 3 bring it down. Burning Force (Silver Forest Remix) - Touhou Project: Imperishable Night Link was down, so I hope I got the right one. If I did, definitely inferior to Love Colored Master Spark. I mean, I guess it's still pretty good, but it is noticeably worse than Love Colored Master Spark. Suikoden - Forgotten Days Eh, it's okay, I guess, but nothing too special again. Staff Credits - Star Fox 64 Nothing special again... except is it just me or did parts of this seem really reminiscent of Zelda and OoT? Checker Knights - Kirby Air Ride Uh-oh, I'm not liking this streak where I keep feeling like I have to say, "Eh... nothing special" etc. again. Maximum Carnage: Opening Intro Another case where I feel it doesn't do too much. Doom - Suspense I can definitely appreciate the atmosphere from this, wouldn't call it great or anything, but I do like atmospheric songs! Azure Dream - the 4th floor Not bad, and I do like some of the things this song does. Breath of Fire 2 - Boss theme Eh... nothing too special, IMO. Breath of Fire 2 - Cross Counter - battle theme Definitely liked this more than the Boss Theme. Breath of Fire 2 - A Crisis This wasn't bad either. Mysterial's Theme - Pokemon Battle Revolution Probably the closest challenger to Pokemon Snap yet. Going to give Pokemon Snap a slim edge here though, though this does have parts that are better. Heal - ICO It's nice, but yeah, nothing all too remarkable about it. Together, We Ride - Fire Emblem 7 Never liked Together, We Ride as much as others seemed to. I like most of the other FE recruit songs better. Hyrule Temple: Fire Emblem - Super Smash Bros. Melee Eh, not sure where I fall on Melee's version v FE7. Let's say FE7. Fire Emblem - Smashing... Live! Link was down, hope I have the right song, etc. This is obviously "better," but at its core, it's still based on a song I don't think is all that exceptional, so that kind of limits it. Together, We Ride - Fire Emblem 1 This is actually kind of neat, I might actually like it more than the FE7 version. Route 47/48 - Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver Uh-oh, this can't be- -...Hey, wait a second, this probably is the best Pokemon song yet. Not great, but it is pretty good. Further confirmation that GSC the best Pokemon generation, IMO. Exceeding Love - Suikoden III This is pretty good, I feel like it has a lot of lost potential, but eh. Believe In Myself (Tails' Theme) - Sonic Adventure Hahaha, I used to absolutely love this song years ago back around when SA1 first came out. I still like it and would call it pretty good, but I can't tell if that's my genuine opinion of the song or remnants of how I used to feel about it. Melty Monster Galaxy - Super Mario Galaxy 2 And my theme of not "getting" Super Mario Galaxy music continues. Menu Select Theme - Metroid Prime Totally outclassed by Metroid Prime 2's Menu Theme, but still a good song. The Detective That Came From The Wild West - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Eh, nothing too special. June Mermaid - Xenogears June Mermaid is definitely pretty good, but there a number of Xenogears songs I like more. June Mermaid (Creid Remix) - Xenogears Hmm, there are parts here I like more than the original, and parts where I like the original more. I'll give the original a slight edge. Boss Theme - Skies of Arcadia: Legends Another "not bad, but not really good" song. Lost Woods - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Eh, given I don't really care too much for Saria's Song, Lost Woods is kind of in the same position. Sacred Grove - Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess I like this more than Lost Woods, but not by a whole lot. Trombe! - Super Robot Wars: Original Generations Aww yeah, Trombe! Trombe is great. Exciting Journey - Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete Eh... another case of nothing too special. (Oh man, how many times have I said that, even I'm cringing at how repetitive I'm sounding. [And have been for a while]) Aria di Mezzo Carattere - Final Fantasy VI Like Shadow's Theme, I feel that a lot of FFVI tracks are a lot better than this. It's not bad or anything, but I also can't really praise it too much. Mt. Blaze - Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team ...Well, this might be the 2nd or 3rd best Pokemon Theme, I guess. Definitely doesn't beat Route 47/48, and I'm unsure if it beats Pokemon Snap. The Encounter - Kingdom Hearts II Man... KH2 has some pretty good boss themes, but The Encounter? Not one of them. SkyTown, Elysia - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Another case of, "It's pretty nice, but the song itself isn't really all that special." You Were There - ICO Eh, it's pretty good, but Castle in the Mist is way superior. A Martyr's March - La Pucelle: Tactics This is pretty good. Hiroari Shoots A Strange Bird ~ Till When? - Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom Link down, hope this is right, etc. This is a great song. Maybe even top tier level, if it's not, it's probably top/second place of the second tier. The Maximum Moving About (Cool & Create Remix) - Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom ...And so is this. At first I was thinking the original would win out because the vocals were holding this down just enough, but those started growing on me a little in the middle of the song, so I don't even know anymore. Menu 2 - Super Smash Brothers Melee Yeah, nothing special here. Menu 2 - Super Smash Brothers Brawl Hahaha, Brawl, can't do anything better than Melee. XD Brawl, Brawl gonna get 60-40'd by Melee. Brinstar - Metroid Link was down, etc. Nothing special, in any case. Brinstar - Super Smash Bros. Melee Better than the original, IMO, but still, when you are working off such a base, you can only really go so far up. Battle! Doom Dragon - Golden Sun: The Lost Age Doom Dragon is okay, but again, Golden Sun/TLA has better battle themes. So does Dark Dawn too. Fight For My Friends - Digimon Rumble Arena ...This... this surprised me. This is quite good. Not top or even second tier, but pretty close. Clash on the Big Bridge - Final Fantasy V While I really like the beginning, the rest of the song goes way downhill. So, pretty good at best. Battle at the Big Bridge - Dissidia: Final Fantasy Dissidia seems to drag out the beginning part longer, which is a good thing. ...But then the rest of the song happens and the original ends up winning. Clash on the Big Bridge (Black Mages Remix) - Final Fantasy V This version beats the others, but as I've said a few times, in general, you can't turn a "meh" song into "awesome." Congregation of Ambition - Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance The first 10 seconds is great, then the rest of the song comes and ruins it. Well, it's not bad or anything, but the lost potential... Stage 12: Mystic Mansion - Sonic Heroes Eh, yet another "nothing too special" Mewtwo Battle - Pokemon Stadium Same as above. Boss Theme 1 - Super Smash Brothers Brawl This might actually be on the higher end of "Nothing too special" but yeah... Battle in China~Brain Hopper - Shadow Hearts This is pretty good. Haunted Woods - Diddy Kong Racing This has a few nice parts, but overall that's not enough. Clashing Souls - Fate/Stay Night Eh... Clashing Souls just doesn't really... go anywhere for me... and it is way inferior to Emiya too. Pleather For Breakfast - No More Heroes This has some sections I like... but the whole thing? Can't say I care for it. Puzzle - Professor Layton and the Curious Village Another case of, "This doesn't really do much, so yeah..." Puzzle - Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box ...I guess this version is better. Nayru's Song - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages Eh, don't really care for this. Nayru's Song (ZREO Remix) - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages This is way better than the original though. Din's Dance - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons What the. ...Let's move on. Main Theme - Balloon Fight While this was my preferred song on that level in Melee, this song isn't anything special. Balloon Fight - Super Smash Brothers Brawl Brawl does have the superior version here. Welcome to Slaughter Gulch - Alone in the Dark 3 Why would anyone put in that "boing" sound effect? i mean, the other parts of the song aren't that bad. But that sound effect... Koopa Kid Battle Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 Eh, never really cared for this theme either. Koopaling Battle - New Super Mario Bros. Wii This is a bit better but still not anything special. Team Aqua and Team Magma Boss Theme - Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald With how many Pokemon songs there have been, I have lost track of their rankings relative to each other. This isn't a challenger to the top couple though. Internet Theme - Megaman Battle Network Hmm, this isn't that bad, but still not great or anything. Pretty neat though. Tears of... - Silent Hill This is quite good though, and I'm glad to be able to say that about a song after what felt like quite a while. Pursuit~Lying Coldly - Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth This is pretty good too. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Main Theme Not bad at all, but I can't call it great. I do like it though. Toxic Waste - Crash Bandicoot Huh. Another case of nothing special. Powerful Foe - Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones This is pretty good, and one of the best FE Battle Themes, but not even the best in FE8. That'd go to The Prince's Despair. Scared Strength might even get 2nd place too. Coconut Mall - Mario Kart Wii Huh. Can't say I'm a big fan of this one either. Coconut Mall: Final Lap - Mario Kart Wii ...Yeah, this is not an improvement. Heart of Fire - Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow This is somewhere around pretty good for me, but probably on the lower end. It has some nice sections to it, but then some others that are not as good and they seem to outnumber those good ones. Intercepting the Great Gong - Monster Hunter Tri This is actually more or less the same as Heart of Fire. Predestined Fate - VVVVVV This is quite good, I don't think it's nearly as good as Positive Force or Pushing Onwards, but it's still good. Skyscraper Scamper: Night - Sonic Unleashed Eh... not a fan of this either. Grandmaster Duel - Pokemon Trading Card Game I do actually like some of the things this song does, but overall I have to say it's nothing too special. Not bad though. Venus Lighthouse - Golden Sun Aww yeah, Venus Lighthouse! It's definitely pretty good. Not my favorite GS/TLA song, or even my favorite Lighthouse Theme but it's good. Final Battle - Shin Megami Tensei if ...Huh. Yeah, this is not what I would expect. And yet again, I can't say I care for it. The Magic Meadow - Quest For Glory 1 Not bad, but not anything special either. Magic Crafters' Home - Spyro the Dragon Nothing special again. Battle For The Glory - Dragon Quest IV This has some neat sections to it, but again, I can't call it great or anything. Battle For The Glory - Dragon Quest IV (DS) I think I prefer the original here actually, but it's close. Gym Leader Battle - Pokemon Black/White I think this would rank somewhere around the middle of the Pokemon songs. The Moon Theme - DuckTales This is pretty good, I really like some sections of it. Electrical Tower - Mega Man Mega Man has better songs. Like MM2 Wily Stage 1. This is somewhere around average-ish, if not lower. Asuka Inn - Digimon World 3 Hmm, I'd put this at average or above-average or so, it has some sections I like a bit. 11 Months - Shadow Complex You know, for the first two-and-a-half minutes this was on the high end of "pretty good" to maybe even the low end of "great" but yeah, then that guitar part starts up and knocks it back down. It really would benefit from ending a little over a minute earlier. Daylight - Katawa Shoujo Act 1 This is pretty good too, though I don't like that "slows down to a halt" effect in the middle or so, and that hurts it a bit. Unless that was just a loop or something. Violet Sky - Hotel Dusk: Room 215 This is probably closer to above-average, definitely not bad though. Akai Tsuki - Disgaea Yeah, this isn't a version of Red Moon I like all that much. Red Moon (Instrumental) - Disgaea DS This, or rather, the version you gave, which if I understand isn't actually from Disgaea DS, is a lot better than the Arrange version of Red Moon, IMO. Dominance - Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI Eh, can't say I find this to be anything too special. It has some nice parts in it, but eh... Severing the Chains of Fate - Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 Hey now, this is quite good. I especially like the "vocals" parts. Shinra Company ~ Shinra's Theme - Final Fantasy VII Shinra Company is a great song. And yes, it is totally the best song in FFVII, no doubt in my mind about this. ...You know, to me, the most compelling villain in FFVII was the Shinra Company Well, Rufus Shinra is, by far, the best character in FFVII. Disc 1 Sephiroth isn't bad either, but then he goes downhill so fast. Rufus is just always awesome. Infiltrating Shinra Tower ~ Shinra Building Theme - Final Fantasy VII Don't like this one nearly as much though, have to say. Apprehension and Evasion - Half-Life 2 This is pretty good, and I didn't even remember HL2 having good music, but then, it's been a long time since I played it. Title Theme - Mother Can't say I'm a fan of this one much either, and I can't say it's even close to Pollyanna. There are some nice sections, but too few and too short. E1M7 (The Crypts) - Heretic Eh... Can't say I think this one is anything special either. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - Firelake - Dirge for the Planet This is pretty good, it's a nice song. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - Firelake - Fighting Unknown This is also pretty good, but I don't like it as much as Dirge of the Planet. Generic Happy Music - Katawa Shoujo Act 1 This isn't bad. Let's say above-average-ish. Miror B.'s Theme - Pokemon Colosseum what. the. why. Oh man, will Route 2 be dethroned so close to the goal? I just don't know. Cold Reception in Shiver City - Paper Mario Still not my favorite Paper Mario song, but better than the Desert song. This is average-ish, maybe borderline above-average, but I feel like that's pushing it. Not the Same - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 Hmm, not bad, but I'm not sure how much further than that I'd go. Thunder Plains - Final Fantasy X Definitely not bad, probably above average/pretty good, but there are a lot of FFX songs I prefer. Staff Roll - Mario Kart 64 Eh, I never really cared for Mario Kart 64's credits all too much, but it does have some pretty good parts in it, so let's say it averages out to... average. Maybe above average. Reset - Okami This is really quite good, probably on the higher end of that category, if not entering into "great" territory. Reset (Thank You) - Okami ...but this. This isn't even close to the original version. Definitely way below it, IMO. I honestly can't think of any part of this version that I prefer to the original. Confronting the Menace - Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 Eh, nothing too out of the ordinary here. Not bad, but again, that's about all. King Dedede - Kirby's Dream Land This was pretty good, I liked most of what this song did. I am the wind - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Not a fan of this, but I suppose it's not bad or anything. A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup (Pumpkin Hill) - Sonic Adventure 2 yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss I couldn't bring myself to dislike this song if I wanted to. Again, I can't call it great, but I definitely enjoy this song a lot, I can't help it. Unexpected Battle - Arc Rise Fantasia This song is pretty good and probably in the top half of that category, definitely like it. Speak Up, Pup! (Shi-Long Lang's Theme) - Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth Eh... can't say I think this song is anything too special. Water Prison - Ys Origin This is pretty good, I guess, maybe. However, I think I've only heard one other Ys Origin song, and it totally outclasses this one. Conversation 1 - Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War Eh, not sure I think this song is anything special either.
...And that is done with. That... That was quite an... experience. Not something I'd want to repeat though, I think I vastly underestimated how long this would take me. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | ...I'm going to regret this whole "go back and comment on everything I didn't" aren't I? Because this is not a good start at all. Really the best part is how short it is. Man, if you don't nostalgia at Route 2, you're doing it wrong. <_< Pretty great song right here. I don't really have any criticisms here! Honestly, might be the best challenger to Bloody Tears yet! Might even win! yesssssssssssssss finally lost courage respect This is great too, but the vocals limit it slightly. I mean don't get me wrong, the "This is great too" is made accounting for the vocals, but I feel like they hold it back slightly. Would take the SSBM version over both here, but they're all great. Yeah the vocalist here is... yeah. I do like the actual lyrics, though. Oh man, this had a shot at some real greatness, but then misses it, so it has to "settle" for simply being another "quite good" song. And yes, that first 5 seconds is where it happens. I heard that and thought, "Oh dear, the top tier may have another entry/be overthrown," but then the rest of the song happened. I know, right? it's so disappointing. The best thing I can say in its defense is that, in-game, all you hear is the first part of it. Well, not the worst Pokemon one, but definitely not the best. Probably 4th place out of the ...5, so far, I think? yikes. my only hope is that you'll at least prefer this to the actual Champion Cynthia theme. *scroll scroll scroll* ...dammit Let's say average, because nothing about this struck me as too impressive really. I end up liking Light of the Day/Dark of the Night a bit more every time I listen to it, and I don't know why. By now it might honestly be a top 10 song for me. ...I forget the last time I used "great." I finally can again. Baba Yetu is probably in the top tier, I don't think I'd take it over EXEC_PURGER but I definitely could depending on my mood. yessssss Baba Yetu. Unfortunately, it's been ruined for me. Now all I can hear is "There's a game called Civilization / Where you get your own little nation..." Link was down, so I'm hoping I have the right song here. Well, my opinion on this varies a bit back and forth. It's pleasant and all, but I don't think I can go any further than "pretty good" here. Which again, isn't a terrible thing, my standards for using "great" are pretty high here. I think the lesson here is that I need to post more songs with lyrics that I assume everyone will hate. Because I seem to have a pretty decent track record with them so far. There's this song in Sonic 1 Game Gear, like... Sky Base, or something like. Great song right there. That'd be my favorite Sonic Game Gear song, off the top of my head, at least. This one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwM5Kr4SG6c Because that's quite good, yeah. I think I still take Final Act, but part of that might be me overcompensating for the fact that Final Act only plays for like 10 seconds in the entire game and FFFFFFFFF- it isn't fair. Nothing special again... except is it just me or did parts of this seem really reminiscent of Zelda and OoT? It's not just you. Although, I think in my case, it's more reminiscent of just a lot of N64 music, and OoT comes along for the ride, but it isn't really Zelda specifically. If that makes sense. >_> -...Hey, wait a second, this probably is the best Pokemon song yet. Not great, but it is pretty good. Further confirmation that GSC the best Pokemon generation, IMO. I'm really curious to see if you'd maintain that position if you played HGSS back to back with B/W and/or DPP. <_< With how many Pokemon songs there have been, I have lost track of their rankings relative to each other. This isn't a challenger to the top couple though. Note to self: post more Pokemon music. there hasn't been enough yet not even close You know, for the first two-and-a-half minutes this was on the high end of "pretty good" to maybe even the low end of "great" but yeah, then that guitar part starts up and knocks it back down. It really would benefit from ending a little over a minute earlier. god, i know. it just doesn't work at all. I don't know what they were thinking. The instrumental part might actually be decent on its own too, is the weird thing. This is pretty good too, though I don't like that "slows down to a halt" effect in the middle or so, and that hurts it a bit. Unless that was just a loop or something. It's not, or rather, if it is, it's in the game itself too. And it pisses me off every single time it happens. Similar to that snoring noise in Route 47/48. urgh. This, or rather, the version you gave, which if I understand isn't actually from Disgaea DS, is a lot better than the Arrange version of Red Moon, IMO. I need to figure out a way to upload the actual DSgaea music. Yeah, the one I linked to is just a fanwork, I think, but it's closer to the DSgaea version of Red Moon than anything else I've found. Eh, not sure I think this song is anything special either. why must you hurt the ones I love. I actually need to reevaluate my opinion of Conversation 1 in retrospect, having finished FE4 now. It's so awesome. Probably top 10 worthy, definitely the best thing from Fire Emblem that I've heard. >_> --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. Especially surprised that you enjoyed Epsilon and Fight For My Friends. =D Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World - Chrono Cross http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROKcr2OTgws I... don't THINK this has been posted, at least. This is another piece I came across while looking for world map themes. I've always heard that Chrono Cross has superb music, which I believed from hearing Scars of Time. This was my second piece to listen to, and it's probably the most emotional and beautiful world map music I've come across yet. --- "That was pretty interesting. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Man, if you don't nostalgia at Route 2, you're doing it wrong. <_< 1. I don't nostalgia at RBY, or any Pokemon, tbqh. 2. Even if I did, I went through the songs there with integrity and objectivity, so I would have factored it out. I even made a point of this for the SMB1 Theme. I acknowledged that nostalgia was there, but I tried to factor it out and ended up ranking it lower than I would have if I let myself get caught up in the nostalgia. >_> yesssssssssssssss finally lost courage respect Aww yeah. Yeah the vocalist here is... yeah. I do like the actual lyrics, though. The lyrics aren't bad I guess but definitely would have preferred an instrumental. Again, SSBM had this right. | Level: 41 New Moderator | So what I've decided to do is do a write up for every piece in the topic in sections of fifty posts per entry. I am debating on whether to also rate my own or not. On one hand, it would show potential thought process changes and how I think other entries stand up to mine. On the other, it could be seen as vain, even though I wouldn't be giving 10/10 to everything I put up (heck, probably not any of them would get 10/10, though I might be forgetting one). So yeah. --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | .hack//G.U. vol. 2//Reminisce - Here I Come http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1F_ysKtktA&fmt=18 .hack//G.U. has an amazing soundtrack. One of the best IMO, I'm not sure if I could decide between it, Xenosaga III, and Ar tonelico (I and II). .hack//G.U. probably wins in terms of sheer numbers of great tracks. The others have their own strengths, of course, but .hack//G.U. just has so many amazing songs it's hard to believe. Here I Come is my favorite Phase Theme in the games, but even then, it's not even my favorite Battle Theme in the games, almost certainly second in that regard though. Honestly, as a stand alone game, Volume 2 of G.U. is probably the strongest of the 3. I barely give Volume 3 the overall edge, but that's due to some other things that may or may not be fairly credited to it as a a result of how I played the games. This song, and obviously the battle it goes with, play at one of the most important - if not the most important - part in Volume 2, and it absolutely delivers. Part of the reason I think I like it so much, is that it's not what I'd consider a standard boss song, but it absolutely works as one, and I simply can't find an adjective I like to attach to it. Haunting? Chilling? Beautiful? I mean, seriously, I can't describe it very well other than whatever this song does, I really like it. I also love the bells and how they're used in the songs, and .hack music has plenty of that, so that's always something I like too. My favorite part of the song is without a doubt from 0:55 to 1:20. With a special mention to that sound effect that starts up at 1:07. I'm not sure how I'd describe that effect, but I just absolutely love it. It's just an amazing effect in an amazing section in an amazing song. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | The Dry Wind Blows Over You - Wild ARMs 5 Hmm, this is definitely above average, but at the same time, it doesn't exactly... I don't know how to explain, "Grab my attention" isn't the exact phrase I want here, but when I really like a song, it gets my attention, or I just know it... or something. That's not here, and so really, that's kind of the end of the line for it, to an extent. I couldn't really explain this phenomena if I tried! Also, I may discontinue this, either myself, or if you guys tell me to, but I think I'll try to attach number ratings for these now. I didn't do that in the massive 253 (I think) song commentary yesterday, but I did have vague number ranges in my mind as to where different key words signified. For instance, "pretty good" represented a range of number ratings in my mind, more or less. Same with "great," and so on. However, it's going to be out of 10, and will go in .5 increments. So you can see 6/10, 6.5/10, 7/10, but not 6.7/10. Now, for this, I'm going to say 5.5/10. It is above average, and I guess 6 is arguable, but I feel like at that point the song has to grab me somehow, and again, that didn't happen here. Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World - Chrono Cross Now Dreams of the Shore is an amazing song. I've heard quite a few (but certainly not all, or even most) Chrono Cross songs, and I think Dreams of the Shore is my favorite of them all, but Scars of Time is close, as are a few others. It's just a beautiful song. ...8.5/10. Maybe 9/10. I'm already kind of regretting restricting myself to only increments of .5, because I do feel Dreams of the Shore is on the upper echelon of the 8.5 tier. But 9/10 is a pretty exclusive level for me. So yeah. Sure, why not. I don't think it would be vain or anything. I mean, speaking personally, I think only 2 of the songs I posted are 10/10 (Godsibb and EXEC_SPHILIA/.) and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there's only one or two 9/10's. I'm actually a little interested in going back and doing that for my songs, but I'd probably do that internally and not post the results unless you guys actually wanted me to or something. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | According to what Kenri says, you only hear ten seconds of it anyway, so why would they put the best part that far in? More like, why would they make this track at all? I mean, you've got the final zone, which has its own music. Then the final boss, which has its own music. Then you give the 10 second walk from the start of the final act until you trigger the final boss... its own music. What the. Poor planning, there. Not that I'm not happy about it. <_< That said, why the heck did you pick Route 2 of all things? I am completely ignoring my nostalgia for these rankings (situations are okay, atmosphere is okay, nostalgia needs to be locked up for the time being). So listening to it alone |

| Level: 43 Editor | So, in consolidation with xp, I'm now going to be going back and commenting on everything I didn't comment on, which is thankfully less than xp had to deal with. I think. But we're going to be doing this the Kenri way, which is to say, really, really half-assed. That is, I'm going to give you a minute, maybe two, and then if I don't like the piece in question, I'm bailing. Actually, I might bail even if I do like it, unless I really, REALLY like it, because I'm just so damn lazy. >_> I think the last thing I commented on was Scramble Girl, so let's start from there. Also: xp's leaderboard idea convinced me to do ratings, but only after I had already listened to most of these, so they were added retroactively and somewhat (read: extremely) arbitrarily.
Tales of the Abyss - Karma Kenri's thought process: "Okay, I'll just pop this on in the background." *it starts playing* "Heh, off to a decent start..." *lyrics start* "this sounds familiar, but I don't think I've heard..." By: Bump of Chicken "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" damn you xp. we're going to have the reverse of route 2, here. we start off with one of my favorite bands and it's all downhill from here. Rating: 9.5/10 Beauty and the Shining Sword - Wild Arms XF See, this is actually pretty good, but then I remember we started with Karma... Rating: 5.5/10 Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - The Pile of Griefs This reminds me a lot of... I want to say Skies of Arcadia's music, but I could be mixing it up. It is quite good, I wouldn't say it's fantastic or anything, but I didn't bail on it, which is fairly high honors for atmospheric music. Also: I can't help but think that, out there somewhere, there's a picture of a cat buried under laundry or some such with the caption: "pyle of greefs" Rating: 7.5/10 Super Mario Galaxy - Bowser's Galaxy Reactor As usual, Galaxy has a fantastic soundtrack all around. That said, this isn't my favorite or anything. Rating: 7/10 X vs. Zero - Mega Man X5 ...I'm not sure what I think of this one. I like it, and yet I question why I like it, which doesn't even make sense, because it's not bad at all. But yeah, I enjoy listening to it and it's pretty catchy. Rating: 7/10 Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories - Demon's Trill Ehh, I'm not crazy about this, especially compared to the previous five-in-a-row-that-I-really-liked. Rating: 4/10 Meaning of Birth - Tales of the Abyss Without playing the game (someday... someday...), I don't really get "tragic" from this. It has parts that read as tragic (particularly the first ~13 seconds), but the majority of it, quite the opposite. It actually reads as too happy for me a lot of the time. Also: bring back Bump of Chicken. Rating: 6/10 Chrono Trigger - Yearnings of the Wind/Wind Scene I almost bailed on this in the beginning, thankfully I didn't because it does get better. It doesn't really ever get above "below average" for me though. Also: link was down, hopefully I got the right thing, etc. Rating: 4/10 Chrono Trigger - Singing Mountain This immediately starts off as more my type of music and stays that way. I wouldn't say it's like amazing though. Also link was down etc etc. Rating: 7.5/10 Chrono Trigger - Chrono and Marle Link was down, etc. I'm not a huge fan of music box... music, honestly, even though I posted one of my own earlier. <_<; So, it's a no for me. Rating: 3/10 House of Cards - Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean This is... just weird in general. I kind of like it, but I'm not going to listen to it again, probably. Even though Baten Kaitos is one of my favorite games. >_> Rating: 5/10 Incidentally, CG7, if you ever decide to play Baten Kaitos, let me know, we can do a dual playthrough thing where I try to 100% it. It'll be hilarious, I'll have to restart like 5 times because of missing something stupid. Fierce Fight (PSP Remix) - Riviera: The Promised Land aww yeah fierce fight, second best track from riviera, which is high honors Rating: 7/10 Fierce Fight - Riviera: The Promised Land I actually like this version better. I'm not sure why, but it shouldn't be surprising; I tend to gravitate towards this "type" of music, whatever you want to call it, as should be evident from this topic, or at least parts of this topic. <_< Rating: 8.5/10 Persona 4 - Heaven ...i don't know about this *lyrics start* ...okay, yeah, this is pretty good. It doesn't read as video game music to me, not that that's a problem. I think I'll go with a cautious above-average here, but songs with lyrics always throw me for a loop, so it could move a lot in either direction over time. I didn't bail though, which is a good sign (tracks with lyrics posted by me in this topic that I initially bailed on: 11 Months, Light of the Day/Dark of the Night, Prayer, A New Venture, Pollyana... it goes on). Rating: 6/10 Xenogears - The One who is Torn Apart This thing starts out at the pace of an immovable object and once it gets going it hits turtle-like speeds. ...That was more negative than I intended it to be. I can't judge its use in-game, but I really don't feel the urge to listen to this for the sake of listening to it. Rating: 3/10 Kenri trivia: Kenri has a sealed copy of Xenogears. He bought it for $20. He really wants to play the game, but also knows that he could resell it for a huge profit, so to compromise he's doing nothing at all. Boss Battle 3 - Legend of Dragoon LEGEND OF DRAGOON *shakes fist* ...anyway. I've got so little to say about this one. It doesn't strike me as particularly unique or special. I'd go with average at best here, although there's nothing really wrong with it. Rating: 4.5/10 Final Fantasy VIII - Premonition This is... quite good, yes. Admittedly I don't have much to compare it to, within FF I mean. Going on just FFVII/FFX, pretty much, I think it compares favorably to most regular boss themes and less favorably to final boss themes. (Except JENOVA. Fuck JENOVA.) You are also pretty much spot-on about which parts are the best. Rating: 7.5/10 But I'm always hearing about J-E-N-O-V-A, and One Winged Angel, The Extreme, and Dark Messenger, but almost never Premonition. Birth of a God! *shakes fist* Baba Yetu - Civilization IV As I mentioned before... this has been ruined for me. damn you brentalfloss. It's still really good though. Rating: 8.5/10 Incidentally, I love this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNKHJHwRwXE Baba Yetu starts at about one minute in. Love that crowd reaction. I think I might like this version better, too. Not sure though. Kingdom Hearts II - The 13th Struggle Eh, not my favorite track from KH, although like usual I think I lean more on the Disney side of things please don't hurt me. It IS memorable though, which is a good quality to have. Rating: 5.5/10 The 13th Dilemma - Kingdom Hearts II I think I like this more, actually! And probably just because it's a little slower! I am arbitrary like that. Still not my favorite though. <_< Also: I REALLY like that part from 56 seconds to 1:22 or so. Wish the whole thing was like that. Rating: 7/10 The 13th Struggle - Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories ........Or maybe it's memorable because I had to listen to it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER as I tried to deck out Axel/Larxene/Marluxia. Rating: -13/10 The 13th Struggle - Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories Link was broken, and I decided it wasn't worth trying to track down. lol Rating: watermelon/10 Half-Life: Surface Tension This is... about what I expect from Half-Life music. It's pretty good; I wouldn't say it's amazing or anything. Rating: 6/10 Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - Vehement Rage Man, I'll have to take your word for it that this works, because it doesn't read as boss music to me at all. Like, it starts out being boss music, and then it quickly becomes something else entirely, and I'm not all that fond of that something else. >_> Rating: 3/10 Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne - Battle (Amala Network) This one's pretty good, though. It's finger-tappingly good, in fact! I mean, to use xp's tier system, which is probably a bad idea because I haven't been keeping track at all, this is probably only low second tier at best, but still. Rating: 7/10 Megaman Legends 2 ~ Duel with Bola so many mega man tracks. ...welp, let's get started. I don't really like this one that much. <_< Rating: 2.5/10 Megaman Legends 2 ~ Mandi Ruins Boss This one is better. Rating: 5.5/10 Megaman Legends 2 ~ Battle with Geetz This one is my favorite of the three so far. Reminds me of Castlevania, always a good thing. Rating: 6.5/10 Megaman Legends 2 ~ Round 1 with Sera ...I'm neutral to this in pretty much every respect. It does some stuff I like and some stuff I don't. I wouldn't really say it's above average, I think. Rating: 5/10 Megaman X 3 - Zero's theme ...And I'm gonna go in the opposite direction of xp here and say this might be my least favorite of the five MM songs in a row now. Rating: 2/10 Megaman X 3 - The Junk Factory ...Thankfully this recovers a bit, because I don't like the first few seconds at all, but then it goes back to that, and goes back and forth, so basically this is half something I'd listen to and half something I don't like very much at all. Overall it's a no for me. Rating: 4/10 Megaman X and X5 ~ Dr. Light's theme I think I have to agree with you that the remix is better, though really they don't sound all that different to me. Rating: 6/10 Megaman and MEgaman X 5 ~ Yellow Devil and Shadow Devil Haha, Yellow Devil. So awesome. Not even the music (which is also awesome), just, Yellow Devil is a pro. I don't like the Shadow Devil track quite as much, though it's still possibly top 3 of the 10? MM songs you've got here. Rating: 6.5/10 Shadow Hearts Covenant ~ Vicious 1915 So this is... interesting. I'm inclined to say I like this one, but it's... kind of a mixed bag. Overall I think it's successful though. Rating: 6/10 Shadow Hearts Covenant ~ Hardcore to the Brain ...I don't really know about this one either. It's certainly not as good as Vicious 1915 imo. Rating: 5/10 Tales of Vesperia - Resolution of the People yessssssssssss resolution of the people (not as good as tragic resolution) ...you know, my intention here was to listen to like 20 seconds of this, and then move on, because I've heard it so much already, but then I ended up listening to the whole thing. damn you vesperia. Rating: 8.5/10 Lost Odyssey - Dark Saint Heh, this isn't half bad. It's got a lot of weird sound effects going on though, some less successful than others. I like the instrument(?) at 24 seconds-ish, but then I don't like the sound effect at 45 seconds, for instance. I think my favorite part is the last minute of it, actually. Rating: 7.5/10 Wind Nocturne - Lunar: Silver Star Story Man, this is exactly the kind of thing I'd have on my list of stuff to post and agonize over whether I'd be mocked to hell for posting it or not. It's good, in any case. Rating: 7.5/10 Nocturne of the Wind - Lunar: Silver Star Harmony As is this. I'm really not sure which one is better because I haven't been able to catch most of the lyrics anyway. Rating: 7.5/10 Wind Nocturne (Japanese) - Lunar: Silver Star Story ......And again, I"m going to have to disagree with my colleague xp and say that this is my least favorite of the three. i'm just so contrary, i'm sorry. i'm not trying to be. (By the way, is that Shinji Ikari in the lower right, there? ...Who grew out his hair for some reason?) Rating: 5.5/10 Lunar 2 - Fierce Battle Quite good. I'm not sure it really stands out too much, against other RPG music, but oh well. Rating: 6.5/10 Lufia 2 - The Mysterious Lady Heh, I think I like this one because it stays simple. Probably second tier of the ones I've commented on so far, if we were to go back to tiers, which again, isn't a good idea. Rating: 8/10 Lufia 2 - The Last Duel (A Must-hear) Yeah, this one is really good. I'm not sure if I personally take it over Mysterious Lady, but I don't think I could argue objectively that it's not the better of the two. Rating: 8/10 Lufia 2 - Boss Battle! Another good one. But, again, I'm not sure it really differentiates itself from a lot of other RPG music. Rating: 7/10 Lufia 2 - Gate of Journey Heh, I wish this one was longer, because it's really good. Might even be my favorite of the five-pack, actually. Rating: 8/10 Boss - Magi Nation This is... okay. It's not bad by any means, but it reads as one of those tracks that really wishes it wasn't chiptunes, instead of just embracing its limitations. Rating: 4/10 Sonic Adventure - Crazy Robo Eh, I don't know about this. For better or worse I think I tend to gravitate towards Sonic Adventure songs with lyrics. Rating: 5.5/10 (well, I guess you could say the difficulty level, but then, I'm not sure anything in SA1 was really difficult.) Correct. Except for the challenges. Which might only be in the DX version, actually, I'm not sure. But seriously, fuck those challenges. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - Black Rose This might be the first serious challenger to Karma. Might even beat it. Really, really good. Rating: 9.5/10 'IDOLA'-The Strange Fruits - Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution ...Again, I really don't know what to say about this, because it's perfectly good, but it just doesn't stand to me too much. The fact that I knew this was final boss music without even reading the YouTube description first is probably telling. Rating: 6/10
--- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. It might do something unfortunate to you." ~from the first Summoner's Seal topic |

| Level: 43 Editor |
Champion Cynthia - Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum the second best cynthia-related theme out of two Rating: 5.5/10 Final Fantasy VII - Fighting Yeah, Fighting is good. Like I said, I like most of FFVII's soundtrack. I don't think this is one of my absolute favorites though. ...It definitely destroys Still More Fighting, though. Rating: 6.5/10 Influence of Truth Appearance - Star Ocean: Till the End of Time I'd say this is probably about average. It's got some good parts and some less good parts, but even the best parts aren't really anything special, tbqh. Rating: 5/10 Valkyrie Profile - Rise Above The World Another one I really have nothing to say about except that it doesn't really stand out to me. I definitely prefer Pile of Griefs. Rating: 5/10 Underworld - Kid Icarus I don't know about this. Part of it is that I've played Kid Icarus, and this plays during the worst level in the game (...I think, assuming it actually plays during the Underworld), and not only that, it's not very appropriate for the level itself either. Even beyond that though, I really don't like it very much. Rating: 2/10 Underworld (Kid Icarus) - Super Smash Brothers Brawl This one's a little bit better, but I still don't like it all that much. Rating: 2.5/10 Final Fantasy Tactics - Remnants ...I don't care for the beginning very much, it's just too minimalist for me, but then it really picks up at 46 seconds. After that it's quite good, though it's still not one of my all time favorites or anything. Rating: 6.5/10 Calling - The World Ends With You aww yeah calling. Probably top 3 in TWEWY. I think I only take Emptiness And and Detonation over it. I dunno. I really like how its lyrics sum up Neku's development as a person. Rating: 8/10 Planescape: Torment - Deionarra's Theme Pretty good, although a bit too atmospheric for me to really want to listen to it a bunch on its own. I imagine it works really well in-game though. Rating: 6.5/10 Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix - The Other Promise ...Man, this is really good. I'm not sure what my favorite KH song without lyrics (and not counting instrumental versions of Hikari) was previously, but it's probably this now. Rating: 8/10 Lazy Afternoons - Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories I actually like this song a lot. However, I don't think it really fits either the times it plays in CoM. It's way too chilled out for so late in the game. Rating: 6.5/10 Lazy Afternoons - Kingdom Hearts II ...So, obviously, it works much better in KH2. But then it has to deal with being part of the KH2 opening. That said, I do like this version better. Rating: 7/10 Lazy Afternoons - Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories Link's down, xp says this is the same as the last one, not worth my effort to track down. <_< Rating: summervacation/10 Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - Menu Yeah, this is definitely good. Don't know if this is my favorite track in Prime 2 or not. I can't really think of any competition though. I guess Sanctuary Fortress, maybe. Rating: 7/10 Doll Master - Threads of Fate This is... interesting. It's not really my kind of music, but I think it's pretty good. It also makes me curious about where in the game it would play. Rating: 6/10 Final Fantasy IX - Silver Dragon Pretty good. There's not a whole lot about it that particularly stands out to me, but I think it's on the upper end of the songs I've said that about. Rating: 7/10 Final Fantasy X - Someday The Dream Will End yessssssssssssssssssss someday the dream will end. Probably one of my all time favorites. I think my favorite part is the first 20 seconds, but again, it's one of my all time favorites, so obviously I like the whole thing. Rating: 9/10 Victorian Fear - Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin Ehhh, this doesn't stand out as one of the better PoR tracks to me. Granted, I don't know what I'd say IS the best, but whatever. Rating: 5.5/10 A Nightmare on Elm Street ~ Encounter with Freddy I actually like this, but there's just not a whole lot to it. It is catchy though. Rating: 4.5/10 Master of Shadow - Persona 3 ........I honestly don't like this at all. Not even a little. It tries to recover a little bit when the vocals kick in, but it's too little, too late. Rating: 1.5/10 Final Fantasy VI - Edgar and Sabin's Theme Ehhh... It's okay, probably a bit above average. Rating: 5.5/10 Tetris A Type - Tetris ...I guess this is okay, but I don't really want to listen to it outside of playing Tetris. And then I don't really want to play Tetris. So yeah. <_< Rating: 2/10 Tetris A Type - Super Smash Brothers Brawl ...This however, is a lot better. It actually sorta reminds me of LoZ for some reason. But yeah, I quite like this one. Rating: 7.5/10 Sonic & Knuckles - Flying Battery Zone Act 1 Not my favorite of the Genesis Sonic games (that would probably be Marble Zone or Ice Cap Zone or something), but it is good. There really aren't many bad songs in the Genesis Sonic games, and this is certainly one of the better ones. Rating: 6.5/10 Contra 3:Alien Wars ~ The Final Gauntlet ...I didn't like this at first, but it improves a lot after the first part. Part 2's probably my favorite, I think. Rating: 6/10 Combatribes - The Slaughter Troops/M. Blaster Huh, I actually really, really like the first one here (which I assume is The Slaughter Troops). The second one is just okay, maybe even below average. I wish I had a separate link with just the first one though, because that's a top tier song. Rating for The Slaughter Troops: 9/10 Rating for M. Blaster: 4/10 Yoshi's Island ~ Big Boss fight The bosses were the best part of Yoshi's Island. That said, I just think this track is "okay". Actually, it's probably a bit above average, but I don't feel any real need to listen to it again or anything. Rating: 3/10 Super Metroid ~ Red Soil I do like this one, especially more than Brinstar ~ Overgrown with Vegetation, which seems to be everyone's favorite and yet I don't really care for. That said, it's not my favorite Super Metroid track, probably not even top 3. Rating: 7/10 Super Metroid ~ First series of bosses Yeah, this one - assuming I got the right thing, since the link was down - is pretty good. I tend to associate it more with escape sequences than boss fights though. Rating: 5.5/10 Chrono Trigger ~ Battle with Magus This is really good... until that ending part of it. Not sure what was happening there, but yeah, everything up til that is really good. Rating: 7.5/10 7th Saga ~ Dungeon Theme ...This isn't bad, but I think the problem here is that is has to contend with Battle with Magus, Red Brinstar, and the Slaughter Troops, and it just can't stand up to any of them. Rating: 6/10 7th Saga ~ Boss Theme And this one fairs even worse. Definitely prefer the Dungeon Theme. Rating: 4/10 Ragnarok Online - Labyrinth This one starts out... meh. I really like the part that starts at like 39 seconds, though. Which is really the majority of the song. So I guess I like it after all. Heh. Rating: 6.5/10 Ragnarok Online - Peaceful Forest It's "okay", probably even above average. Very nice and chilled out. In terms of peaceful forest themes it can't beat Radiant Life Fostering Light (Egothor Forest) though. Rating: 6/10 Ragnarok Online - Theme Of Morroc Heh, this has got a little bit of a Latin flair to it, doesn't it. I think it works, but it's probably my least favorite of the three so far. Rating: 5.5/10 Ragnarok Online - Fear (Theme of Glass Heim) Another one that starts out below average but gets better as it goes on. By the end I think I ended up considering this quite good. Rating: 7/10 Ragnarok Online - Aeon (The Clock Tower) And this one is... probably somewhere in the middle of the Ragnarok fivepack. Rating: 6.5/10 Final Fantasy VI - Dancing Mad Links were down, hopefully I found the correct things here. But let's assume I did. Tier 4 > Tier 1 > Tier 3 >>> Tier 2. Overall rating: 5/10 Love-Colored Master Spark - Touhou Project: Imperishable Night While this is pretty good, it just reads as a bit too busy for me; I feel like I'd like it more if it was a bit simpler. But that's just my personal taste, there's nothing really objective about that. Rating: 6.5/10 Burning Force (Silver Forest Remix) - Touhou Project: Imperishable Night ...Assuming I found the right thing here (link was down etc), I really don't care for the vocalist here. To a point that it kind of poisons the whole piece for me. So yeah, I guess it's a no for me. Rating: 2/10 Mass Effect 2 - Afterlife ......Welp. This isn't at all what I was expecting, and I'm surprised at how good it is. You can tell I like something when I start dancing in my chair to it! >_> Rating: 7.5/10 Fighting of the Spirit - Tales of Phantasia It's catchy, but again, I don't think it's all that special. But then I realize that I probably take it over most of the battle themes in say Vesperia. So yeah, I guess I do like it quite a bit. Rating: 7/10 Fighting of the Spirit - Tales of Symphonia ...This however is really mediocre on every level. The original is so much better. In fact, I'm bailing after a minute in, whereas I listened to the original more than once! Rating: 4/10 Suikoden - Forgotten Days ...I like it. It reminds me of Cosmo Canyon for some reason. Not sure why. I really like the nature effects it includes, and I usually dislike those in music. Rating: 6.5/10 Weapon Raid - Final Fantasy VII You could pick a track from FFVII at random and I'd probably like it. That said, this isn't one of my favorites, but it is good. I actually like the little alarm effects thrown in; they're so subtle and used so sparringly that they really work. So it's a yes for me. Rating: 6/10 Checker Knights - Kirby Air Ride ...I want to say this is the music for one of the courses, but then, I never really played the actual main racing game of KAR, because City Trial mode was just too good. In any case, not one of my favorite Kirby tracks. Rating: 3/10 Maximum Carnage: Opening Intro ROCK OUT But yeah, this is a bit too repetitive and not very memorable. It has some good ideas, but then it doesn't really go anywhere with them. The best thing I can say about this is that it made me think of Otherworld from FFX. <_< Rating: 3.5/10 Doom - Suspense I actually like this, but there's just not a whole lot to say about it. It's atmospheric, and it doesn't really work too well on its own, but I imagine it would work very well in-game. Rating: 5.5/10 Azure Dream - the 4th floor Ehhhh... This doesn't really read as suspenseful for me. Parts of it actually feel kinda silly. Rating: 3/10 ------------------This is where ratings stop being retroactive and become slightly less arbitrary------------------- Breath of Fire 2 - Boss theme This is... okay. It's just not very memorable and I imagine it works better in-game. Rating: 4/10 Breath of Fire 2 - Cross Counter - battle theme ...You know, for a second there, I thought this would be better than the last one. Then it made some really questionable choices. ...Yeah. Rating: 4/10 Breath of Fire 2 - A Crisis My favorite of the three, but that... isn't saying all that much, unfortunately. Rating: 5.5/10 Mysterial's Theme - Pokemon Battle Revolution This is pretty okay. I obviously lean towards the Pokemon songs I posted (especially Cynthia Before the Battle), but it's still pretty good. Rating: 6/10 Exceeding Love - Suikoden III This reminds me of Indian music (what little Indian music I've heard), and well, I like Indian music, so I end up liking this, although it's not like amazingly good or anything. Rating: 7.5/10 Melty Monster Galaxy - Super Mario Galaxy 2 I think a lot of people like Melty Monster Galaxy, and I don't really get the hype for it. Not one of my favorites. But then, this soundtrack has no bad songs, really, so yeah. Rating: 6.5/10 The Detective That Came From The Wild West - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney ...This works for the character, definitely, but it's not one of my favorites from the Ace Attorney series. That said, that series has a damn good soundtrack in general, so even a mediocre Ace Attorney song is pretty damn good. Rating: 7/10 June Mermaid - Xenogears Really, really good. This right here is my type of music. It really works on just about every level. Rating: 8/10 June Mermaid (Creid Remix) - Xenogears Also good. I think I like the original slightly more, but only be a hair. Rating: 8/10
--- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 41 New Moderator | Without playing the game (someday... someday...), I don't really get "tragic" from this Trust me, it fits the scene amazingly. ........I honestly don't like this at all. Not even a little. It tries to recover a little bit when the vocals kick in, but it's too little, too late. I think you are the first person I have ever heard disliking Master of Shadow. I am very disappointed. >_> Powerful Looking - Muramasa: The Demon Blade http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4FfXqXsvdA Muramasa's track, from what I have heard of it so far, reminds me of Okami's in style. That is a good thing for me, since I loved Okami's soundtrack. This one is my favorite from what I have heard so far. It plays against a boss that your character does not want to fight, but the spirit possessing her forces her to. That boss killed me eight times, but with this music, I can't say I minded all that much since I got to keep listening to it. --- "That was pretty interesting. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Powerful Looking - Muramasa: The Demon Blade This is pretty good, I enjoy a lot of what this song does, but it does have some weak parts to it that hold it back. I think I'm going to go with 6.5/10 here, the weaker parts almost made me gravitate to 6/10, and really if I have a feeling it'd probably end up somewhere in the middle if I were using more than the .5 increments, but I think I'll give it a bit of a break here and let it stay at 6.5/10, though it would be on the lower end of the 6.5 "tier", if you will, in all likelihood. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Mega Man X2 - Intro Stage Well- the best Mega Man X series music. -Oh. ...Oh dear. Okay, okay, let's see. Well, how can I put this. Like the Wild Arms song from before, this doesn't really grab me in any way, and really I don't care much for it, so I'm forced to go with 5/10. It doesn't annoy me or anything, so I won't go any lower than that, but while I like a few things about it, overall... yeah... | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia - EXEC_RE=NATION/. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_w5OWwL2nE&fmt=18 That's right, another Ar tonelico hymn! I don't think I'm going to be so strict on myself on how often I repeat games. I mean, I'll try to not do it as much as I can, but my primary goal here is great songs, and if that just happens to mean some games or series get represented a lot, well, other games should try to be that good! But either way, this is Ar tonelico I, so I'd consider it fine in any event, that was just a warning for later! Anyway, on to EXEC_RE=NATION/., I don't know if it's my favorite Ar tonelico I hymn, but it's almost certainly Top 2 in that regard. It's just a beautiful song overall. It plays pretty early on in the last Phase of the game, and to that point, I'm pretty sure it's my favorite hymn. Again, there's this sound effect going on that I don't know how to describe that I really like, it's in the background during most of the song, though not all of it. I can't really pick out a favorite part too well, because I like every part of the song, but let's say my favorite part is 0:55 - 1:50. In fact, that sound effect I was talking about? My favorite part of that starts at 0:55 and lasts through most of that section, but it does change a bit towards the end. I still like that effect, but I like how it "behaves" during the other stretch more. As for the Reyvateil who sings this hymn, she also happens to be my favorite of the reyvateils in Ar tonelico I. Interestingly, this has nothing to do with the quality of the hymns, but it just seems to work out that my favorite reyvateils typically have my favorite hymns, and that pretty much all of their hymns are excellent (relative to the other hymns, that is, even the lower-tier hymns I would probably rank above most VGMusic) --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | Part 3 of this thing
Boss Theme - Skies of Arcadia: Legends ...And as I restart this whole ordeal, I'm immediately faced with a problem, because the whole gimmick of this track is, as CG7 says in her writeup, that it changes depending on how well the battle is going. Which sort of limits how you can listen to it. It's rather unremarkable without that gimmick, but I'm gonna add an extra point or so because I know how awesome it is in-game. *shrugs* Rating: 7/10 Exciting Journey - Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete This works as a world map theme. It's a bit too joyful for me, personally. I really like the part from 15 seconds to about 40 seconds, and the other parts like it. But uh... it's really one of those pieces where I can't find much negative to say and it really just comes down to me liking it less than a lot of others. Rating: 6/10 Aria di Mezzo Carattere - Final Fantasy VI ew this is like a bad aerith's theme rip-off. No but seriously, this is significantly better than Aerith's theme. Mind you, when you're being compared to Aerith's Theme, there's only so much upward mobility you can possibly be afforded. Rating: 6/10 Mt. Blaze - Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team ...In some ways this reminds me of Lower Norfair/Magmoor Caverns, but it's really not as good as either of those, so reminding me of them doesn't really work to its credit. Rating: 4/10 A Martyr's March - La Pucelle: Tactics Ehhh, I'm not a big fan. It's okay though. Rating: 5.5/10 Hiroari Shoots A Strange Bird ~ Till When? - Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom ...Dammit, this is another one that's perfectly fine but which I'm just not a big fan of. I really don't have very much negative to say except that it's really just not my kind of music. Rating: 5.5/10 The Maximum Moving About (Cool & Create Remix) - Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom ...This is better. It would be improved even more if the vocalist didn't seem to forget he was singing and just start talking normally every so often. But yeah. That aside, I like this. Rating: 6.5/10 Menu 2 - Super Smash Brothers Melee SUPER SMASH BROTHERS MELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Yeah, it's pretty good. It's just not all that special. Rating: 5.5/10 Menu 2 - Super Smash Brothers Brawl I'll agree that the original is better here. However it's by a really narrow margin. Not enough to merit a different score, at least. Rating: 5.5/10 Battle! Doom Dragon - Golden Sun: The Lost Age Not one of my favorites from Golden Sun, but I give Golden Sun's soundtrack a lot of credit in general, at least as far as battle themes go. Also: this plays during a stupid, stupid final boss, but that's kinda irrelevant. Rating: 6/10 Fight For My Friends - Digimon Rumble Arena This sort of reminds me of Baten Kaitos' battle music! ...Which I'm not a huge fan of, but oh well. Rating: 6/10 Clash on the Big Bridge - Final Fantasy V Oh thank god, something of real quality. Rating: 7/10 Battle at the Big Bridge - Dissidia: Final Fantasy ...Ehhh, don't like this nearly as much as the original, though I guess it's okay on its own. Rating: 5.5/10 Clash on the Big Bridge (Black Mages Remix) - Final Fantasy V Better than Dissidia's version. I think I still like the original version the best, though! Rating: 6.5/10 Congregation of Ambition - Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance That sure was nearly six minutes of a song, all right. Rating: 4/10 Stage 12: Mystic Mansion - Sonic Heroes Oh god Mystic Mansion KILL IT WITH FIRE What? No, not the song, the level. The song's okay I guess. It's sorta creepy or... something, I dunno. Rating: 6/10 It really probably deserved a 5.5 but I gave it a half-point because bellz Mewtwo Battle - Pokemon Stadium Anyone who actually made it to this fight in Stadium is a better gamer than I. But yeah. I actually like this quite a bit. I think my favorite part of it might be the start, where they actually included the "Pokemon encounter" noise. Pretty nice touch. ...Or maybe it was just in the YouTube video but not in the actual track, but whatever, I'll count it. Rating: 6.5/10 Boss Theme 1 - Super Smash Brothers Brawl This is really just boss music to me. I can't think of very much about it that's notable. Rating: 5/10 Battle in China~Brain Hopper - Shadow Hearts I like the vocals, I don't like some of the sound effects. Actually, those sound effects drag it down quite a bit, because it's really very good otherwise. Rating: 6.5/10 Haunted Woods - Diddy Kong Racing Fun to listen to, sure, maybe, I guess. Otherwise no thank you. Rating: 2/10 Communication Breakdown - Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose Starts out okay. Quickly becomes amazing. Then gets a little bit less amazing when the chanting stops. Then picks up a bit again as the chanting returns, even if it never quite reaches the level of amazingness it was at before. Rating: 8.5/10 Clashing Souls - Fate/Stay Night I actually like what this song does quite a bit, but it doesn't really go anywhere. I'll be generous here though. Rating: 6.5/10 Pleather For Breakfast - No More Heroes what the ................i think i like it. Rating: 7/10 Puzzle - Professor Layton and the Curious Village Puzzle - Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box I really don't know how to score these two at all. I mean, it works well in-game, but how do I score that? If at all? Rating: N/A I think that's the fairest thing to do in this situation. Really, I probably should have just N/A'd a few other songs too, but well. Nayru's Song - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages I like... parts of this. Or rather, I like it on some levels and dislike it on other levels. Rating: 5.5/10 Nayru's Song (ZREO Remix) - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages ...Man, I've got nothing against chiptunes, but this blows the original out of the water. Very nice. Rating: 7/10 Din's Dance - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons ... next. Rating: 3/10 Main Theme - Balloon Fight ...This is okay. It's a little catchy at least. Rating: 5.5/10 Balloon Fight - Super Smash Brothers Brawl ......I actually like this. I think it's on the higher end of the 6.5 songs, too. Rating: 6.5/10 Welcome to Slaughter Gulch - Alone in the Dark 3 Well that was interesting. ...I don't dislike it, but I'm docking points for boing boing boing Rating: 5.5/10 Koopa Kid Battle Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 yikes, that is repetitive. Not that I really mind repetitive when the song is good. But this really isn't. It really, really isn't. <__< Rating: 2/10 Koopaling Battle - New Super Mario Bros. Wii ...And then of course I actually like this one. Rating: 7/10 Team Aqua and Team Magma Boss Theme - Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald One of the better battle themes from Pokemon, but I tend to dislike Pokemon battle music in general, at least compared to its non-battle music. Ehhh. It's better than Cynthia's at least. Rating: 6/10 Team Aqua and Magma suck. There is no getting around that they are some of the worst villains I have ever seen. Literally not even the worst Pokemon villain(s). Dare to compare: Nameless Rocket Admin: Giovanni, Giovanni, please come back! Gold: Hey. Stop that. Nameless Rocket Admin: okay. Vs. Maxie/Archie: THE WORLD IS GOING TO END BECAUSE THERE IS TOO MUCH WATER/LAND. WAKE UP SHEEPLE! WE NEED TO FIX THIS WITH A. WITH A... A VOLCANO! It's the ONLY WAY. Sapphire: You are a moron. Maxie/Archie: or am I the ONLY sane one out there? Sapphire: You are literally destroying the world as we speak. Maxie/Archie: ... Maxie/Archie: okay Maxie/Archie: my plans may have gone awry at some point. Internet Theme - Megaman Battle Network This is really good, actually. Color me surprised. Rating: 7/10 Tears of... - Silent Hill you know, between you and epyon, i'm going to end up playing Silent Hill just for the music. Rating: 7.5/10 Pursuit~Lying Coldly - Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth This is probably my #2 pick from Investigations. It can't touch Cornered 2002 though, as far as AA music in general goes. <_< Rating: 7.5/10 S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Main Theme Very good. Ends up right on the edge of 6.5 and 7. ...I'm going to take the safe road, which is always the lower score, here, but geez, it's close. Rating: 6.5/10 Toxic Waste - Crash Bandicoot I feel like this would work well in-game, not so well out of it. That's not a negative. It's certainly better that way than the reverse. <_< Rating: 4/10 Powerful Foe - Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones eww sacred stones no thank you. ...I guess it's okay, though. Rating: 5.5/10 Rusty Ruins Act 2 - Sonic 3D Blast yesssssss rusty ruins act 2. For some reason I always forget how good this is. Maybe because it's way more of a Metroid kind of track than a Sonic one. I dunno. Rating: 8.5/10
--- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | the ordeal is over
Coconut Mall - Mario Kart Wii ...man, this is like bad mario sunshine music. And I actually thought it was promising for like... 6 seconds. Then the rest of the song happened. Rating: 2/10 Coconut Mall: Final Lap - Mario Kart Wii ..........................................no. Rating: .5/10 Heart of Fire - Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow This one is good. Might even be the best track in Aria of Sorrow, actually. Rating: 7/10 Now please make a prequel with Julius as the MC Capcom. <3 Castlevania 1999 is one of my most anticipated games that will never be ma-wait, did you say capcom? i should deduct points for that. Intercepting the Great Gong - Monster Hunter Tri This is pretty dramatic! I normally don't like that very much. It works in a few cases. This is probably one of them. I do think it drags a little bit though, just enough for me to knock it down from a 7. Rating: 6.5/10 Predestined Fate - VVVVVV Eh. It's fun. I don't dislike it. ...I think I might just be getting less and less enthusiastic as I continue this ordeal. So I'll bump this up a bit. Rating: 6.5/10 Skyscraper Scamper: Night - Sonic Unleashed SUDDENLY DUNNA DUN DUN, TWEEEE DUN DUNNA dadada DAAAAAAAAAAA YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY DARK GAIA SPAWN INVENTORY: CHILI DOG (x4) CHIP (x1) INERT CHAOS EMERALD (x7) TEN-FOOT POLE (EQUIPPED) 40 FEET OF ROPE YOUR EXITS ARE NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, AND UP WHAT DO Rating: 5.5/10 Grandmaster Duel - Pokemon Trading Card Game aww yeah pokemon tcg ...i can't remember anything music-wise from this game. this sounds okay though. not bad. Plus I haven't been nice to any chiptunes recently, so I'll bump it up a bit. Rating: 6.5/10 Venus Lighthouse - Golden Sun aww yeah golden sun area themes. Not my favorite lighthouse theme, but oh well. Still good. Rating: 7.5/10 Final Battle - Shin Megami Tensei if ...This... just goes nowhere. I don't dislike it, because there's really not much here to dislike. But I am going to give it a low rating, completely arbitrarily! Rating: 2/10 The Magic Meadow - Quest For Glory 1 This is really, really good. I was surprised at how good it is. It sort of reminds me of Castle in the Mist, actually, which is a good thing. Rating: 8/10 Tempted to go 8.5 but I think that's pushing it a bit. Magic Crafters' Home - Spyro the Dragon Now this one here. This reminds me of Mario Sunshine's music. And I like Mario Sunshine's music. So overall it's a yes for me. Rating: 6.5/10 Battle For The Glory - Dragon Quest IV YAOBT (yet another okay battle theme) Rating: 5/10 Battle For The Glory - Dragon Quest IV (DS) YAOBT Rating: 5.5/10 Gym Leader Battle - Pokemon Black/White YAOBT Rating: 5/10 The Moon Theme - DuckTales save_us.ducktales Rating: 8/10 Electrical Tower - Mega Man Yeah, this is really good. One of the better Mega Man tracks posted in this topic. (Really prefer classic MM music to MMX music, not sure why.) Rating: 7.5/10 Asuka Inn - Digimon World 3 save_us.asuka ...wrong asuka dammit why couldn't you have posted a song from evangelion world 3 Rating: 5/10 S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - Firelake - Dirge for the Planet ...I really like the vocalist here. Like, probably my favorite vocalist in the whole topic so far. Probably not my favorite song with lyrics, though, if that makes sense. Still, amazing. Rating: 8.5/10 S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - Firelake - Fighting Unknown I don't like this as much. It's okay. Not really my type of music. I do find it rather interesting though, so I'll bump it up a little. Rating: 7/10 Unexpected Battle - Arc Rise Fantasia YAOBT. That said, it's the best of the YAOBTs so far. ...Actually, it might even deserve a higher score than I'm giving it, but whatever, it's either high 6 or low 6.5, and the scores are effectively meaningless anyway. Rating: 6/10 Water Prison - Ys Origin ...This doesn't fit its name at all. I mean, I read "jungle, possibly with a waterfall, maybe some cliffs", not a prison of any sort. Except maybe like a... jungle waterfall prison. I don't know shut up. Rating: 7/10 Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica - EXEC_SPHILIA/. This doesn't read as VG music to me. Oddly that works in its favor, though, because I have fairly different taste in video game music and "normal" music (at least I think I do), even though the distinction is entirely pointless. But yeah. I love the lyrics/vocals here. I think not being understandable actually works in its favor, too. Aside from that... I don't know. It just really works. There are a few parts I'm not crazy about, but even those compare favorably to a lot of the field, so... Rating: 9/10 The Dry Wind Blows Over You - Wild ARMs 5 This has a nice Western feel to it, which I assume is intentional given that it's Wild Arms. It's not amazing, but I like it for what it is. If it's world map music, then it also gets points for being rather unique world map music, so I'll bump it up to a 7 even though it really deserves like a 6.5. Rating: 7/10 Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World - Chrono Cross Man, posting this is cheating. But I guess xp got Someday the Dream Will End, I got [half my picks], so oh well. Rating: 8.5/10 .hack//G.U. vol. 2//Reminisce - Here I Come This starts out pretty mediocre, then a minute in it suddenly becomes like top of top tier... tier... for a while. *actually reads writeup* My favorite part of the song is without a doubt from 0:55 to 1:20. ...You are absolutely correct. I want a whole song of that. ...I'm conflicted here now, but given how I've scored some previous songs, I think this is fairly consistent. Rating: 7.5/10 Powerful Looking - Muramasa: The Demon Blade You are correct about this being reminiscent of Okami's music, which is a good thing, although I don't think I liked Okami's soundtrack quite as much as you did. As for Powerful Looking, I like most of it. It can feel a little busy at parts, but really, its score is more a case of me just liking other stuff better than it. Rating: 6.5/10 Mega Man X2 - Intro Stage I kind of like this, and I'm surprised I do. Certain parts are definitely better than others. Specifically I really like that effect at like 18 seconds to 35 seconds. It's also pretty catchy. Rating: 6/10 Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia - EXEC_RE=NATION/. ...Heh, this is like... the exact opposite of EXEC_SPHILIA. I feel like it's more my type of song (because this one actually does read as VG music, somehow)... And now I don't know which one to put ahead, because they're both about equally great, but in different categories. Or something. I swear, I'm trying to think of bad things to say about this, but the only thing I can come up with is that the parts with the backup vocals are just slightly worse than the parts with only the lead vocalist. But then I worry that if they weren't there, the song would suffer without them, so I'm just going to throw up my heads and give this the same score as EXEC_SPHILIA. Rating: 9/10 Also, I want to make a correction: xp has informed me that the ending of Battle with Magus that I complained about isn't supposed to be there, and is just a problem with the OST or some such, so I'm upping the score from 7.5 to 8/10.
special thanks to xp for keeping me relatively sane during this and everyone who contributed to this topic for contributing to this topic, even if I gave you a bunch of 5.5s and you now think of me as a terrible person. There were honestly very, very few tracks here that I honestly, genuinely disliked. You'd really have to get down to the 3s and lower to reach those, and even some of them were just not my style or too atmospheric or whatever. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | there is also this Unwavering Resolve (Theme of Eurydice Shrine) - Soul Calibur II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ky8_KtpnD9U&fmt=18 Possibly my favorite track from Soul Calibur II, even though Eurydice Shrine was really overpicked and also a fairly lousy stage, this music aside. I think the music really fits a beautiful Greco-Roman temple high up in the mountains/maybe it's supposed to be in heaven or something? I dunno, I don't follow Soul Calibur lore. It sounds really heroic, though, in any case. I really wish the female characters of Soul Calibur would put on some damn pants though, seriously. This series is sort of embarrassing in that regard. For both genders. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. It might do something unfortunate to you." ~from the first Summoner's Seal topic |
