| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney - Trance Logic You know, this is one of those pieces where I look at the name and go, "You know, this actually has a chance," and then I actually listen to it. I'll say... 4.0. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney - Perceive ~ Surging Eyes I actually like some of these effects more, but overall, this is worse. 3.5. I kind of feel like I might be overrating both of these, but eh... --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | VVVVVV - Positive force http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOpX7r-CyvY&fmt=18 I think this is my favorite piece I've heard from VVVVVV, which isn't exactly saying too much, but I do like Positive force quite a bit. It's a bit hard for me to describe why I like this so much, I do like the effects, but I think it has more to do with the "feel" of the song... and I'm not sure how to describe it or even what I mean by that. My favorite part of the piece would be 1:50 - 2:44, I think. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | VVVVVV - Positive force Well, of the four or five or six songs from VVVVVV that I've heard, this is definitely one of the better ones, at least. 6.5/10 --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner - Beyond the Bounds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y81PyRX4ENA&fmt=18 Fear to see "The World to Be"... You know something is a cop-out when... it's been uploaded by both SupraDarky and VGMusicOfTheDay. But oh well. This is another one of those songs with lyrics that grew on me over time. Originally I really did not like the vocalists (it's credited to Maki Kimura but I could swear there are at least two here). They've grown on me over time, though. I definitely enjoy the contrast between the two different styles of vocals, too - in fact that's probably my favorite part of the song. The lyrics are... okay, I guess, at least the ones in English are. They're the sort of generic flowery kind of lyrics without a lot of meaning, but oh well. What I really don't like about the song is the opening, by which I mean, the first 53 seconds. Not only is it boring, but there's this weird effect at 39 seconds that's just awful and I really don't like listening to it. It doesn't ruin the song or anything, but I do wish the song just started at 54 seconds in instead. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner - Beyond the Bounds Hmm... I do like this, but I'm not sure how much. Whenever it goes a decent way without doing anything that would make me consider dropping points... it does something that warrants it. I mean, I still like it, but it's like it's trying to keep itself from getting a 7 or higher. And it succeeds at that I suppose, since I think I'll give a 6.5. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Final Fantasy VIII - The Landing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v6BtJaBQmo&fmt=18 Probably one of my favorites from FFVIII. This plays a few times in the game, but I suspect for most people they attribute it to when it first plays, fairly early in the game. Not me, I associate it with the time it plays much later in the game, but either way, it's still good. My favorite part is probably 2:21 - 2:48, but I'm not entirely sure, there are a few rather good parts throughout the piece. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | Sonic Rush - Medley Rush #2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZeRG6dHxKg&fmt=18 So I finally beat Sonic Rush, as in, collected all the emeralds and beat the true final boss, and to celebrate I'm posting this. Like other Sonic games, the credits music is a medley of other music from the game, mostly stage music. Sonic Rush music is... generally liked, I think. Now, liked more than Genesis-era music, I dunno about that, but people seem to mostly enjoy it. And while this isn't my favorite track, it is appropriate, considering that it plays when you beat the true final boss. And it's also a nice sampler plate of Sonic Rush music. According to one YouTube comment there, the order of songs is: A New Day, What U Need, Metal Scratchin', Jeh Jeh Rocket, Get Edgey, Wrapped in Black, Bomber Barbara, Right There Ride On, Ska Cha Cha, Back 2 Back, Vela Nova, Ethno Circus. My favorites of those would be A New Day and Wrapped in Black (both of which I might post at some point in the future), but also keep an eye out for Vela Nova, the most popular Rush song by a huge margin, for whatever reason. I really don't like it all that much, but whatever. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. It might do something unfortunate to you." ~from the first Summoner's Seal topic |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Planescape: Torment - Fortress of Regrets http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXv95nrat_s&fmt=18 This is probably my favorite piece from Planescape: Torment. It takes elements from most of my other favorites in the game and turns them into this, and it's just great. It's another case where I simply like everything the song does, my favorite effect is probably the pseudo-vocal effect or whatever that is at around 1:17. Speaking of that effect, my favorite part of the piece would be 0:40 - 1:35. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | Planescape: Torment - Fortress of Regrets Pretty good for what it is. Definitely an atmosphere piece, but even as far as atmosphere pieces go, it feels like it has too much build up for no payoff. | Level: 43 Editor | The Legend of Zelda - Overworld http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpEzYEoV9qY&fmt=18 As you might expect from the name, this is the overworld theme from the first Zelda game, and a version of it has appeared in just about every Zelda game since. I think it's a pretty solid overworld theme; I don't recall ever going "god I can't stand any more of this BGM" or anything while playing through LoZ1. In fact, while this is the most simple version of the song, it's probably my second favorite version (LttP's is also up there). What's my absolute favorite? Well... The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - Legendary Hero http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvTpAQ2e-Ig&fmt=18 ...It's this. Probably my favorite song from Wind Waker. Possibly my favorite song from any Zelda game. Obviously (revealed by how I posted this), my favorite part starts at 52 seconds. Easily the best version of the Zelda Overworld theme. This plays during Wind Waker's intro/backstory, something that gives me chills every single time I watch it. This song fits the intro absolutely perfectly, and works great outside of it as well. Every instrument works and makes the piece as a whole better, but the best thing this song does is pack a huge emotional punch. And while a lot of songs struggle to even evoke one emotion, this one manages a wide range - peacefulness, hopelessness, strength, etc - and each one flows into the next seamlessly. Really, I've got no shortage of good things to say about this song. In fact, I have to look really hard to find negative things to say about it - I guess it maybe drags a little towards the end, but overall, this is one of my absolute favorites. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Final Fantasy XIII - Snow's Theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBi88gACXrY&fmt=18 So, I started playing Final Fantasy XIII last night, and have been enjoying it quite a lot so far, though obviously I'm not too far into it yet. Pretty sure this is my favorite piece from it so far. Normally, I'd try to wait until after I beat the game, you know, just in case something embarrassing happens and like 10 other songs show up that I like more, but we'll see what happens! Anyway, this piece is obviously the theme of the character Snow. It has a tendency to play when he's around. Or when he's even tangentially related to whatever is happening. Or if he's been in an area, left it, and your controlling completely different characters in that same area. I'm not complaining though! It also has a habit of overriding everything else in the game at times. Area themes, dungeon themes, and battle themes. None of them are safe. I feel like I probably like this piece more than I should, and it's probably helped out by some context, because there's few things more awesome than to gain control of your party (even though Snow isn't even the party leader) and storm through the final section of a dungeon towards the boss with this theme playing over everything else. However, I should stop before this becomes a FFXIII discussion. ...Anyway, trying to get back to the piece itself, I think another thing that could be noted if you went through a lot of the pieces I like, is that I like guitars (electric or otherwise), and Snow's Theme does not disappoint. I also love the other effects and the drums/percussion here. My favorite part is definitely 2:15 - 3:00. However, really, I like pretty much every part of this song. The only real weaknesses I think it has are the first 25 seconds, and the 25 seconds after 3:00, which come to think of it, may be a loop starting. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | Final Fantasy XIII - Snow's Theme Pretty good (though not amazing or anything). I probably would not mind this playing a lot. It's also an example of a song where the electric guitar actually works, not just because the song is built around it but because it really works with and highlights everything else. I come down hard on a lot of songs with electric guitars because it's so easy to get it wrong and just ruin a song by adding one, but here it works really well. 6.5/10 --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Main Theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0Bd8pq-utw&fmt=18 Audi famam illius... If there's one thing Brawl did really, really well, it was its soundtrack. Of course, when people talk about Brawl's soundtrack, what they're really talking about is its collection of music from other games - some remixed, some not. Brawl's original music is sparse, to say the least, and generally not worthy of mention. Except for this track, which anyone who followed Brawl's pre-release hype has probably heard about a million times and thus oh god why am i even posting this. i am a sham, i just take the most popular music out there and pretend i have some special connection to it and then post it. i mean, ****in' LoZ1 overworld and SSBB main theme in a row? goddamn. ... Well, I like this song, in any case. I may not be able to listen to it without hearing "I'll be the Marth, e.g. n00b / This is Yoshi's B...", but I still like it. I'm quite fond of songs with Latin vocals - I criticize them sometimes because they're pretty overused, but generally I do like them. And this song manages a very... almost patriotic, anthem-like feel, which the Latin only adds to. The lyrics, if you read the translations, have **** all to do with Smash Bros. (and no, you can't say that they're about
the Ancient Minister, because the Ancient Minister has **** all to do with Smash Bros. as well, so I'm right regardless
), but I've never claimed that was necessary for me to enjoy a song. So yeah, good soundtrack, good song. I think this one actually ranks pretty highly for me even within SSBB's soundtrack, which is usually a sign of quality. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | Rudora no Hihou - Beyond the Rising Moon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQoHA7JufFw&fmt=18 (No, you don't have to listen to all five minutes. I don't know how many times it loops, but probably at least once.) Another song I was introduced to by the B8 VGMC5, and one of the few songs in Bracket A that didn't make me want to stop following the contest and then kill myself. Of course, it lost in Round 1, presumably because Bracket A was the designated "terrible songs bracket" and people anti-voted it for not being terrible. Snarking aside, I usually try to go through most of a game's soundtrack before posting a song from it, in case I end up finding a ton of songs I like more. I didn't really do that here, but I went through enough of it to convince myself that the soundtrack overall isn't very good. So, I guess this is an exception to the norm twice over. Your mileage may vary, I know some people adore this game's soundtrack. My favorite part here would be from :53 to 1:13 or thereabouts, and all similar parts. For some reason it reminds me of the song that plays in the opening of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, which I haven't been able to locate, and not for a lack of trying. That said, I consider the song to be very consistently good; I think part of it is that I just really like the main "instrument" and yes i know it's not a real instrument that's why i used scare quotes there. It's sorta similar to the one used in Conversation 1, which is also nice. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Main Theme Eh... Brawl's soundtrack may be one of the most overrated I can think of. It does have some pretty good songs, but that's bound to happen when you have that many and even then it feels like that shouldn't even count because the vast majority are just from different games. 4.5. Rudora no Hihou - Beyond the Rising Moon This has some nice sections to it, but is overshadowed by the more frequent sections in which this is not the case. Of course, it lost in Round 1, presumably because Bracket A was the designated "terrible songs bracket" and people anti-voted it for not being terrible. Literally not even Top 2 in its own fourpack. Overall, I'm going to say 3.5. Which is a shame because when this piece is actually in one of its better sections, it's at least a full point better. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

Which isn't that surprising really, it's hard to imagine even a lesser version of this being all that possible on a GBA. Really, Re: CoM had a surprising amount of good music... but it was pretty much held back until endgame. Kind of like Final Fantasy VIII but more noticeable.
This is the battle theme for Marluxia's third and final form. A form which is also not in the GBA version if I understand correctly.
Lord of the Castle is up there on my list of favorite KH Battle Themes - sometimes I might even say at the top, thanks in large part to the section at 1:40 - 2:05 which is just amazing, the rest of the song is good too, but that section might honestly be my favorite section in any KH song. Maybe the openings have a section I like more, but I'm almost positive none of the non-openings can compete with that. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

Kind of like Wolfenstein 3D and Civilization II in that regard. Anyway, Alone in the Dark is rather dated by now and wasn't really scary even when it was new, but I still have a lot of fondness for the game. And the music in AitD1 (and even more so AitD2) is really quite good, so I figured I'd post something from it. I'm not sure if this is my favorite track from the game, but I definitely enjoy it - I generally like nature sounds in music if they're used with a deft hand like they are here, and I think this is pretty appropriate music for when you finally escape the mansion. More importantly, I think this is fitting in another way, given that it'll be the 500th song (by my counts, at least) posted in this topic series. | Level: 43 Editor | That track only plays in one scene IIRC, so it could be that they were meant to be ambient sound effects and not really part of the music. But then Infogrames were lazy and just decided "put this all on the same track, that way we don't have to deal with music AND sound effects". | Level: 43 Editor | Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles - Serenade of Sympathy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ca0uVh1izg&fmt=18 Dracula X Chronicles is probably at the top of my list of games I want to play but am unable to because I don't own the required system. Despite that, when I heard that its version of Symphony of the Night removed I Am The Wind - also known as my favorite VG song of all time - for a different credits song, I had to look up the new song to determine how upset I should be. ...But it's actually really, really good. It fits the game a lot better, and it's just a really good song overall, probably top tier even within SotN. It does a lot of different things, but it all works pretty well, enough that I don't even want to single out a certain part as my favorite. I guess the very beginning and very ending might be my favorite parts, but really I like the whole thing and how it works together. So yeah, I don't like this more than I Am The Wind (because that is and probably always will be my favorite), but I think it's unquestionably the better song of the two, at least within the context of SotN. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it.
