| Level: 41 New Moderator | Baba Yetu - Civilization IV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN8-6Hi8wSE At one point in the fargone past, a friend of mine (who I sadly do not remember the name of) gave me a bunch of miscellaneous songs to listen to. I'm pretty sure this was one of them. I have no other ideas to how I would have heard it, since I've never even considered playing the Civilization games. In any case, this is a pretty piece. I like it a lot. No idea what the lyrics mean (or even what language they were until I found that video), but it sounds good. I have to wonder what it plays to though. Nothing really seems to fit in my mind as a good location for a song like this. Well, it's irrelevant in the long run. Good song is good. --- "That was pretty interesting. I haven't played Civ IV but I'd imagine this is a character theme for one of the world leaders. Could be way off-base, though. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 43 Editor | Chozo Ruins [Hall of the Elders] - Metroid Prime http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgXjDzjazi4 Sometimes I wonder why the hell I bother buying and playing games that aren't Metroid Prime. Like, right now is totally one of those times. It just stops making sense, sometimes. So... this track. The regular Chozo Ruins music is... okay. It's actually pretty damn good, but for Metroid, it's just okay. This track, however, which plays only in one room (no points for guessing which one), is easily one of my favorites in the entire game. The Hall of the Elders, while not a "safe zone" (because some extremely annoying enemies can appear there), is one of the only places in Metroid Prime where you feel like you're not completely alone. The Chozo have more or less left gifts for you here, and you can return here throughout the game each time you get a new beam to collect them. ...For some reason, listening to [Hall of the Elders] always makes me feel like I've been transported to a church. Not sure why; maybe because the song evokes feelings of reverence, and I mentally connect reverence with churches? *shrug* --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Kingdom Hearts II - The 13th Struggle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfgwz-RRJ4c&fmt=18 You have no idea how tempted I am to just have this comment consist entirely of some quotes. [Spoiler for KH2 Prologue, well, probably not really spoilers, but maybe if you got really technical (they're all battle quotes/pre-battle quotes)..., click to show] "I'm so flattered... but you're too late!" "Two!?" "Come here, I'll make it all stop!" "Roxas!" </spoiler> But yeah, anyway, this is a boss theme. I think it plays three times, but it might only be two, can't recall if it plays in one of the battles I'm thinking of. As for my favorite part, it's definitely the beginning of the song. Not my favorite boss/battle theme in the series, or even probably just KH2, but still quite good. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 41 New Moderator | Persona 4 - Heaven http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=463Us587Z9o&fmt=18 My second favorite dungeon theme in Persona 4! Xenogears - The One who is Torn Apart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD25_StvAT0&fmt=18 Just going to repeat that I like the entire soundtrack so of course I like this one too. And yes, that scene is amazing. Kingdom Hearts II - The 13th Struggle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfgwz-RRJ4c&fmt=18 Well congratulations, you finally got revenge by taking a piece I was going to post. My favorite Kingdom Hearts II track, which is appropriate seeing as it plays in every Axel fight and Axel's my favorite character. To clarify, The 13th Struggle plays whenever you fight an Organization member without allies. This is appropriate in Chain of Memories seeing as you don't HAVE allies with you, therefore it plays during every fight with an Organization member. In Kingdom Hearts II, you get... [Spoiler for Kingdom Hearts II Bosses, click to show]Axel, Axel again, and Luxord. Since you fight Demyx, Xigbar, Xaldin, and Saix with allies, they get The 13th Dilemma. Since Xemnas is the final boss he has different themes. Can't say for Roxas since he showed up in the version we didn't get. =( I'd be willing to bet he had a different theme too since it sounds pretty storyriffic. And the refights that were added in Final Mix... again, not sure what plays there. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... | Level: 41 New Moderator | The 13th Dilemma - Kingdom Hearts II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YlA-g5YIqQ Since xp just had to take what I wanted to do, here's the back up. Even though The 13th Struggle is my favorite, that doesn't take away from The 13th Dilemma. This too is a good boss theme. As I mentioned before, The 13th Struggle plays when you fight an Organization member without allies. The 13th Dilemma plays in the Organization fights where you do have allies. This totals to four... [Spoiler for Kingdom Hearts II Bosses, click to show]Demyx, Xaldin, Xigbar, and Saix. In all of these you get to have Donald and Goofy, or in Xaldin's case, you can add Beast to the party. </spoiler> Since Chain of Memories had no allies, this means that The 13th Dilemma originated in Kingdom Hearts II. But here's a bonus since xp didn't add it. The 13th Struggle - Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGiw4gp05ik This is where it first came from. The Kingdom Hearts II version is better IMO, but I have to give credit where it's due and this did appear first. And while we're at it... The 13th Struggle - Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU1qrWEPwtE The third one in the series! Which I have not actually listened to before and since I have the most terrible speakers on this computer ever, I can't give an accurate comment about. It sounds good from what I can make out, but the static is just awful here. Man I need to play Re Chain of Memories. --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... | Level: 37 Advanced | Half-Life: Surface Tension http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiYowD-Qw5o&feature=related This theme plays during some encounters with the HECU (Hazardous Environment Combat Unit) marines during certain levels as they try to wipe out all witnesses at the Black Mesa Research Facility. The theme really makes you feel like a badass as you take down the marines. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - Vehement Rage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqPRjCpCbEk&feature=related The boss theme of the game. What, that's a boss theme, you ask? Certainly. It really fits given how orchestral all the other battle themes are. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne - Battle (Amala Network) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z41gCLtZPnA&feature=related This theme isn't played very often which is kind of sad, though Nocturne really only has 1 bad music track anyway (fights in towns). --- "A man chooses. | Level: 37 Advanced | Alright, here's some more blasts from the past, which i attribute to Megaman: Megaman Legends 2 ~ Duel with Bola http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTjwY10maos&feature=related This is a common boss battle theme you hear in Legends 2, but the cool thing they did is have it switch based on how each boss battle theme in Legends is setup. In this one, you're fighting Bola, who is a ninja-like thief. Megaman Legends 2 ~ Mandi Ruins Boss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snMwIHDrEFU&feature=related And as you listen to this, you see the similarities between the themes and bosses: While Bola was speedy, this boss is just a big ass frog. Megaman Legends 2 ~ Battle with Geetz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVKUWMW3pP8&feature=related My second favourite theme. It fits the religious zealot theme very well for this boss fight. Megaman Legends 2 ~ Round 1 with Sera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRp5SlCudFM&feature=related And who can forget the final boss's 'duel' theme? <3 Megaman X 3 - Zero's theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP0LuX4G3tg How... could they get RID of this?!? Megaman X 3 - The Junk Factory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIYA6CQ_E_k&feature=related This is a secret stage. basically, if you find the Junk Factory, you find out it's rigged with bombs. it plays this song upon leaving and entering it. hearing this play as you rush for the exit is awesome. Megaman X and X5 ~ Dr. Light's theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJZwOEMuDgs&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICTvx1t3n94&feature=related Now this is a notable theme i can't get out of my head. We know how fun it is to think of Dr. Light as the good scientist, and this track plays him like a memory so well. the first one is the original, and the second one is the remake. i honestly think the remake was well done and even better than the first. Megaman and MEgaman X 5 ~ Yellow Devil and Shadow Devil http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVKBuaSFjt4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MwmwPQJHII&feature=related The Yellow Devil is another memory, but compare the Yellow Devil track and the Shadow Devil track and you'll just be amazed how awesome the remake is as well. Shadow Hearts Covenant ~ Vicious 1915 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p_SFBS-UCc If you remember the Koudelka track i played earlier, this game was made by the same company. this was the normal battle music, and probably my #1 favourite battle theme. Shadow Hearts Covenant ~ Hardcore to the Brain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irGCdR0rTM4 and this is the boss theme you hear when you fight a story-mode boss. and i mean the kind of story-boss that you know isn't a push over either. --- "A Unicorn?!? | Level: 43 Editor | Main Theme & Overworld - Super Mario Bros. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEKDF_WbMlg Possibly the most well-known piece of VG music of all time. Even people who have never touched a video game tend to know this one. I definitely like this track, but it's hard for me to find anything to say about it that hasn't already been said. That, and I don't really even like it that much. The reason I bring it up at all is more an excuse to talk about this: Platforms-A-Plenty! - Super Mario Sunshine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCwZPn2sJg0 This is the scat remix of the SMB Main Theme that plays during Super Mario Sunshine's (frankly godawful) bonus areas, where Shadow Mario steals FLUDD and forces you to engage in platforming gauntlets that would be fantastic if: A) the camera and gameplay controls weren't abysmal, B) you were given checkpoints or infinite retries, or C) accessing the areas at all wasn't frequently as much of a challenge as many of the game's other Shine Sprites. As it stands, I'd argue that the only good thing to come out of these areas was this remix. Platforms-A-Plenty succeeds because it elevates SMB's Main Theme from being simple music suited for in-game purposes and not much else to something you legitimately want to listen to outside the game. SMB's Main Theme is in-game music, and it's very good in-game music, but when you take it outside the game, it suffers. That's simply not its element - not that that's a bad thing, necessarily. Platforms-A-Plenty is the same tune, but it's far more... I guess I'd say substantial? I don't know about you, but I'd love to see the guys behind Platforms-A-Plenty perform in person. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | You know, I'm not exactly sure why nothing happened yesterday. I was right about to, entered the topic... but then got sidetracked... so it never happened. Whoops. Tales of Vesperia - Resolution of the People http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkvQtx3LZbI&fmt=18 Now, this is a bit of a stretch, given Kenri did Ring A Bell earlier, but kind of like how I wasn't willing to include Meaning of Birth, etc. with Karma, I'll say the same for Resolution of the People. This is arguably my favorite song from Vesperia, but as I was saying before it's in a bit of a contest with approximately 3 other Vesperia songs, Ring A Bell included. [Spoiler for Tales of Vesperia, click to show]I forget if this song played earlier than, or even if it played at all elsewhere, the scene in Aurnion (I think that was the town's name)? But even if it did, that scene is what I associate this song with, and it's incredible. I think a really long time ago, I said Vesperia managed to make a "Everyone has rejoined the party" message epic. The truth is, it's really more because this song is playing during that than the message itself. </spoiler> ...You know, I tried to name a favorite part to this, but I just can't. At no point did I really feel I could say, "Okay, yeah, I feel this isn't as good as the part before." It's just awesome the whole way through. --- Lost Odyssey - Dark Saint http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv6_bDfnHGc&fmt=18 Now, on the whole, I'm not that big a fan of Lost Odyssey. I felt it took way too long to get interesting (Like until the end of Disc 2) and that while the End of Disc 2 to about halfway through Disc 3 was pure awesome, that after that stretch the game dropped in quality again. However, this song is great and easily the best in the game. I believe the first time it plays is at the End of Disc 2, and from that point I was always looking forward to it playing again. My favorite part is without a doubt 33 seconds to 93 seconds. After that, I think it drops off a bit, just not a fan of where the song goes from there, but eh. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 41 New Moderator | Thanks xp, was not aware of that. All of those pieces and I can only say this. Main Theme & Overworld - Super Mario Bros. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEKDF_WbMlg 'Oh.' Iconic, sure, but... I don't really care about it. >_> Wind Nocturne - Lunar: Silver Star Story http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROt6hC7WWio For some reason I could only find the cutscene it plays in, so yeah. It doesn't have spoilers so don't worry about watching it. This is a beautiful song and one of my absolute favorites with vocals. I've actually memorized the lyrics and sung it to myself a lot. And then for a Spanish assignment, translated it to Spanish and sung it. Yep. I'm a nerd. The sky's also blue. This is also a pretty iconic song as a whole. It's a vocals piece that lots of people who played older RPGs recognize and give credit to. Probably helps that the character in the game who sings it is KNOWN for being a great singer. It's basically her gimmick. Nocturne of the Wind - Lunar: Silver Star Harmony http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyxI4bInxe4 Well, this is what they put in the PSP remake recently, but I can't hear the silly thing well with my terrible speakers. I'm tempted to say I'm not very fond of it, but it's really not fair to say that until I can hear it in its full glory. I do wonder why they changed all the lyrics though. Wind Nocturne (Japanese) - Lunar: Silver Star Story http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc2mwPNYxjA And again I can't make this out well, but here's the one that showed in the Japanese version before it came out IN AMERICA! In other words, the original. It sounds good too as far as I can tell. --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

| Level: 37 Advanced | bringing up Lunar reminded me of another series... but before i do that, i remind my favourite track: Lunar 2 - Fierce Battle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKQR-oZSzLk&feature=related With that being said, it was the Lufia series. what is it with games named after girls having awesome music? But what game that without a doubt that will make you moved with game music is Lufia 2 - Rise of the Sinistrals. It's got this "Chrono Trigger" Feeling to it, but the game delivers by not changing it's RPG roots at all. you could call it a series that could rival Dragon Quest's old style RPG formula, but continues to reuse doomsday ideas in a satisfying way. I highly recommend you hear the entire soundtrack. Here's some of the greatest themes in the game in my opinion. I'll save the pain of not spoiling the themes. | Level: 43 Editor | 02's Theme - Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwpLSiplyYc Have I seriously not posted any Kirby music in this topic? That needs to change! So Kirby 64 is a very cute, nonthreatening game. ...Until you reach the true final boss, 02. In Kirby's Dream Land 3, the final boss was 0, a giant eyeball that attacked by throwing its own blood at you. When nearly defeated, it would rip out its own iris as a desperation tactic. And while 02 isn't nearly as creepy, it's going to mess with you just as much, mainly because of the BGM. It is possibly the most "you're screwed" piece of music that I've ever heard. Listening to it while fighting the reborn 0 makes you feel like victory is completely impossible. (Of course, the actual fight is really, really easy, but whatever.) I think the reason I like this piece so much is because there's so much going on in it and it all works together. There's the main beat, constant throughout. There's the chanting or whatever you'd call it behind that. And in front it just keeps building and building, and with it, your tension and apprehension build as well. It even sort of psyches you out a couple times where you think it's going to stop building up and then, well, it just keeps going. (If that didn't make sense, then I'll try to make it clearer: It starts building at 42 seconds, psyches you out a couple times in the :55-1:25 area, then keeps building at pays off at about 1:50. Or maybe I'm just nuts.) --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. It might do something unfortunate to you." ~from the first Summoner's Seal topic |

| Level: 43 Editor | Slowly working my way through the topic... The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Last Day Good. You're right that it definitely needs the ringing of the clock tower in the background for full effect, though. I really need to play Majora's Mask. <_< -- Tales of Vesperia - A Wavering Taboo I like Wavering Taboo, but it probably doesn't even rank among my favorite Vesperia tracks. Dungeon themes? ....Eh, yeah, it's up there, the only one I can really name off-hand that I like better is Brilliant Life, Rising Light/Radiant Life Fostering Light/Egothor Forest. -- Secret Base - Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 It's hard for me to picture this as a dungeon theme, but I do like it. It just seems more like a town theme or a character theme or something. <_< -- Strange Wind - Phantom Brave ...I've either heard this before or it's extremely reminiscent of something else I've heard before (maybe a Disgaea track?). I really need to play Phantom Brave. (augh, so many games, so little time) -- Xenosaga III - Assault And I really like this one. It's the kind of music I'd expect to hear during a movie or a play or something, while the main characters are dancing, and I mean that in a good way! -- Ushiwaka's Dance-Playing With Ushiwaka - Okami You know, I've heard a lot of people say this is like their favorite track in Okami, and... really? It's good, but I probably don't even rank it in the top 5. >_> -- Persona 3 - The Battle For Everyone's Souls Another one that I like but never really saw the hype for. This might be the worst Persona track posted in the topic so far tbqh. <_< -- .hack//Infection - Phase 1: Skeith Yeah I... don't like this one, honestly. It seems appropriate for a "Terror of Death" or whatever, but I just don't enjoy listening to it. -- .hack//Infection - Dungeon ~ Castle much better song tbqh -- Beyond the Colosseum - Demon's Crest This... reminds me of Castlevania, which was probably unavoidable based on the description. Definitely not a bad thing to be compared to, though. In any case, I really, really like this one. -- U.N. Owen Was Her? - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Something about this was just really, really hard for me to listen to. Like, parts of it are at exactly the right frequency to really irritate me. -- Sweet Little Sister (Silver Forest Remix) - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil There we go, much better. -- Scramble Girl (Next Flower Remix) - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Hmm... | Level: 43 Editor | Aquatic Ambience - Donkey Kong Country http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D65TT5Ieb4M I should really put together a soundtrack of the best underwater themes in video games. That seems like it would be a worthwhile project. <_< I can't remember the exact level this track plays on (and if it's called Aquatic Ambience, then I don't know this track's "real" name and I apologize), but here's an unpopular opinion: I actually like DKC's underwater levels, just in general. They're hard, but overall the games are pretty easy, so I generally don't even mind the increase in difficulty. And unlike a lot of water levels, they're really fun - especially when you get Enguarde the Swordfish. In any case, this track and Dire Dire Docks from Super Mario 64 are really the two definitive underwater themes to me. (There's a third one I'd put up there too, but I haven't posted it yet and it's quite a bit different, so yeah, look forward to that.) Disagree? Think you've got a better underwater theme? Post it, we'll get started on that soundtrack. >_> --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. I think I could actually see you placing the other Persona songs (from P3/P4) ahead of this (assuming that that leaves it at Memories of the City and I'll Face Myself -Battle-) -- .hack//Infection - Phase 1: Skeith Yeah I... don't like this one, honestly. It seems appropriate for a "Terror of Death" or whatever, but I just don't enjoy listening to it. Pfft... -- .hack//Infection - Dungeon ~ Castle much better song tbqh It is awesome. And hey, it took all the way until .hack//Quarantine, but that part I got spoiled when looking for a version of Castle without the battle theme getting thrown in? It finally happened in-game. Thankfully, the game managed it in such a way that I still didn't see it coming the way it did. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Anyway, I missed another day, but this time I was fully aware that I was. My sleep schedule literally got flipped around in a single day (like seriously I think it was roughly a 12 hour shift) and so I've been pretty tired and so even though yesterday I was looking at this topic and thinking of what to do, I just ended up going, "Nah..." Sorry about that. --- Sonic Adventure - Crazy Robo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwAnNb_OzyU&fmt=18 Probably one of my more unpopular game opinions is that Sonic Adventure was better than Sonic Adventure 2, but I've just always felt that way, I pretty much felt SA1 did pretty much everything better than SA2. Except Big The Cat, that was just not cool. Even Amy is tolerable. Kunckles's levels felt much better in SA1, and either way he was the only one with that style of level. And Tails wasn't in a mech and instead was basically another Sonic level, but with flying. And E-102 is just awesome. And speaking of E-102, Crazy Robo is the boss theme for the final boss in his side of the story, and it might be my favorite song from Sonic Adventure 1, but there's definitely competition for it, including E-102's Theme itself. Pretty much everything about E-102 was awesome, and this boss battle doesn't disappoint (well, I guess you could say the difficulty level, but then, I'm not sure anything in SA1 was really difficult.) My favorite part of the song is the part from about 90 seconds to 105 seconds, but it's another song where I pretty much like all of it. --- Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - Black Rose http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNI7xRq1LPk&fmt=18 Eternal Darkness is just a great game. There are definitely a lot of areas it could have been improved in, and that does hold it back a little bit in my mind, but the things it does well, it just does so unbelievably well that I could almost overlook everything else. The atmosphere in Eternal Darkness is generally incredible, and obviously the sanity effects are the the most known/popular aspect of the game, and they're great. Eternal Darkness also has some really great music, and it's kind of hard for me to pick a favorite, as it's a bit of a battle between 3 or 4 songs. Of them though, this is probably the most "popular" choice. Black Rose plays on the "level" that is either my favorite, or second favorite, in the game (because two levels in particular are just so far above the rest, in my opinion, and it's near impossible for me to pick between them.) And it's just amazing. My favorite part of the song is actually probably towards the end, with the last 30 seconds or so, but really the entire song is just incredible. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 41 New Moderator | Secret Base - Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 It's hard for me to picture this as a dungeon theme, but I do like it. It just seems more like a town theme or a character theme or something. <_< It makes sense in context. The dungeons in Persona 4 are interesting, to say the least. Strange Wind - Phantom Brave ...I've either heard this before or it's extremely reminiscent of something else I've heard before (maybe a Disgaea track?). I really need to play Phantom Brave. (augh, so many games, so little time) I can't think of any Disgaea tracks that really sound like it. Oh well. Ushiwaka's Dance-Playing With Ushiwaka - Okami You know, I've heard a lot of people say this is like their favorite track in Okami, and... really? It's good, but I probably don't even rank it in the top 5. >_> That's the wonderful thing about Okami's soundtrack. It has so many good pieces that I could easily see someone justifying this one not even being in their top ten. It just happens to be my personal favorite. Persona 3 - The Battle For Everyone's Souls Another one that I like but never really saw the hype for. This might be the worst Persona track posted in the topic so far tbqh. <_< I lol'd. U.N. Owen Was Her? - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Something about this was just really, really hard for me to listen to. Like, parts of it are at exactly the right frequency to really irritate me. I can sympathize since I have sensory issues myself. This piece is one I enjoy a lot, so obviously I don't have that problem here, but I can see where that might come from. Sweet Little Sister (Silver Forest Remix) - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil There we go, much better. <3 Scramble Girl (Next Flower Remix) - Touhou Project: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Hmm... I think: Sweet Little Sister (Silver Forest Remix) > Scramble Girl (Next Flower Remix) >>> U.N. Owen Was Her? I have a hard as heck time placing them because I like all three. I'd probably put them in roughly the same order with less >>>>s between the last two. Error, Secret Base is in this topic. Yes. Yes it is. <_< =D >_> <_< --- "That was pretty interesting. Revolution http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27mQ9m9T518 This is another game I haven't played, and I don't have any intention of it really. But a friend of mine who really liked the game sent me some of his favorite tracks from it, and this was one. He said it played during a boss fight with two enemies called Castor and Pollux (o i c). It's pretty interesting overall. I can't really compare it to any other pieces I've heard. But it has something that makes me like it and keep coming back to listen to it. Probably my favorite from the track from the handful I've heard, and good enough for me to want to share. Though I admit, I keep thinking I hear Polar's barks from Crash Bandicoot stuck at portions in the track. Curse you Crash Team Racing for tainting this track before I could ever even hear it. >_> --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

| Level: 43 Editor | The Dungeons (E1M2) - Heretic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0-M6wBNn_Q Like I mentioned in my writeup for The Cathedral, I like Heretic's music a lot. There aren't that many tracks, but they're all pretty high quality. And while The Cathedral is my favorite track, The Dungeons is probably the most distinctive/memorable one, mostly due to that tickety-tickety ticktockticktock effect in the first minute and twenty seconds of the Also like I said in my writeup for The Cathedral, I can't remember any of Heretic's levels very well, but I do recall this track playing in a lot of the more "screw you" levels in the late game. I think that's fairly appropriate considering this track is less atmospheric than a lot of Heretic's soundtrack, and there's no real time for atmosphere when you're getting attacked by a bunch of annoying enemies. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 41 New Moderator | Champion Cynthia - Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whX6TVUDF-E My personal favorite piece in those three Pokemon games, if not all the handhelds period. It's a great track to go with the tenseness of the fight that it plays in. Cynthia is, in my opinion, the most difficult champion fight yet, so she definitely justifies having a quick-paced and frantic tune like this. --- "That was pretty interesting. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Final Fantasy VII - Fighting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9LrE6dRHn8&fmt=18 Final Fantasy VII's Normal Battle Theme, and without a doubt my favorite FF normal battle theme, and it's not even that close (Only FFX is sort of in the discussion, and only because it has a single part that I think is amazing - because for some reason it reminds me of FFVII's Battle Theme. So yeah.) In fact, I'll go even further and say I think this is probably the best battle theme in FFVII, although this time I can't go "and it's not even close" because it really is, mostly against Jenova Absolute, but One Winged Angel lurks in the area too depending on my mood. The entire song is just great, it's extremely hard for me to pick favorite parts, but I guess I'll say from about 57 seconds to 72 seconds. But I also like the part from 12 seconds to 34 seconds pretty much the same. --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 43 Editor | Prayer - Endless Ocean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQqkbMULJNU Endless Ocean is hard to classify. It's a game - it's got a story and an ending and everything - but there's no danger and no way to lose. The story is really a bare bones thing just kind of slapped on; the meat of the game comes from just exploring the world and finding things to see and do. I hate the label "non-game" just on principle; I wish there was a better term for games like Endless Ocean. But anyway, this song is the game's main theme and it works quite well in that position. In my writeup for Aquatic Ambience I mentioned that there are three tracks I consider the definitive underwater themes. Dire Dire Docks is one, Aquatic Ambience is another, and this is the third. Also in that writeup, I said the third is quite different: not just because those two games are classics and this one isn't, not just because this song has lyrics and the other two don't, but just in theme. It's less atmospheric, and I doubt the reception will be as kind to it (though I've been wrong/pleasantly surprised about this before). It's odd, Endless Ocean contains both standard VG music with no lyrics and a couple other songs like this. When I was playing the game, I tended to prefer the tracks without lyrics by a rather large margin. I'm not quite sure when I started liking this song, but definitely like it now and think it works perfectly for a game about scuba diving. Part of the reason I like it is because it's such an immensely peaceful song, so I'd have to say I like the middle of the song a lot more than the beginning and the ending. It kicks the peacefulness up to a whole other level and, uh, frequently puts me to sleep in the process. Including right now, so it was probably a bad idea to listen to it while doing this writeup. <_<; --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. Final Fantasy VII - Fighting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9LrE6dRHn8&fmt=18 Blah. Mediocre. Don't dislike but don't care about it at all. >_> Influence of Truth Appearance - Star Ocean: Till the End of Time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E3GD8zUgSA I'm going to have to be honest here; I don't remember much of this soundtrack. But I always enjoyed this piece. It played during fights with angel-like beings and gave it a pretty epic feeling. The horns are my favorite parts, but the rest isn't bad either. Note that I was tempted to insert Bitter Dance here just to troll Epyon, but could not bring myself to. >_> --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating...
