| Level: 43 Editor | When gamers make really stupid statements about how Series X has been tarnished by the recent games... when the same damn thing happened in the past, and they never even acknowledge that. I could probably list off like 10 examples of this, but the two biggest ones I see all the time are for DK and Sonic. "The DK series took a complete 180 after DK64! Nintendo ditched all of Rare's characters and started making games that were vastly different from the DKC series!" Raise your hand if you can already tell why this is retarded. I shouldn't need to point out that Rare did the EXACT SAME THING, as that was the point of this topic, but in case you missed that, well, they did. The first 3 games in the series (and I use the number 3 rather loosely due to spinoffs like DK Jr. Math) were made by Nintendo. None of Rare's games bared more than a passing resemble to these games. None of the same enemies or characters were used (except DK, who became Cranky Kong - haha, what). In other words, the thing DKC "fans" are complaining Nintendo did to their precious series? Rare did the same thing. They, unsurprisingly, NEVER bring this up. "Sonic hasn't had a good game for 10 years/Sonic has been in a recent decline/For every good Sonic game nowadays there are 5 bad ones/etc" Take a look at the recent Sonic games. Find the one you like the least. This game is still better than Sonic Labyrinth. No, I don't care what you named. Every recent Sonic game is far better than the trash that was released to cash-in on the Sonic name during the Genesis through Saturn era. Sonic Drift, Drift 2, Sonic R, Sonic the Fighters, Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic Blast, Sonic 3D Blast, Tails' Sky Patrol, the GameGear version of Sonic Spinball, and I'm sure I could list a few more. Including Knuckles Chaotix which is by FAR the worst Sonic game I've played, but everyone else seems to love it. The thing is, NONE of these games are EVER brought up in Sonic hate topics. Shadow the Hedgehog gets hate. Sonic 06 gets hate. Sonic Riders gets hate. Freaking Sonic Adventure 2 gets hate. But the games I listed? They never get so much as a MENTION. "But", people say when I bring them up, "the crappiness of those games was tempered by all the great Sonic games that were released!" Yes, ALL the great Sonic games. Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic CD. You can make a case for Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble, and maybe Sonic Spinball if you want. Wow, look at all those great games. There are so many of them I can hardly count them all, but certainly there are far more than there have been recently... oh wait. Seems that the Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush series do, in fact, exist. But again, these games are NEVER brought up, and when they are, the haters offer criticism that is neither insightful nor truthful. Often it's something as simple as "Sonic Rush was terrible" with no explanation for WHY it was terrible. And why? Because they haven't actually PLAYED it. Even if the quality of Sonic's best games now is worse than the quality of Sonic's best games then, Sonic worst games then were objectively FAR worse than Sonic's worst games now. The Sonic series is NOT declining, at all, and if you think it is, you need to get your head out of the past's proverbial ass. tl;dr version: A large, large majority of the people who hate on recent DK or Sonic games are, at best, clueless, and at worst, full of shit. So yeah, just needed to get that off my chest. Feel free to add your own if you've seen other examples of this. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Drift 2, Sonic R These were fine. Not necessarily good, but they weren't horrible. Sonic Labyrinth Now this. ...This was horrible. While I can't make any claims really on the GBA/DS/Basically-anything-past-SA2 Sonics, I highly doubt they could hold a candle to Sonic 2/Sonic 3 & Knuckles/Sonic CD, and this is why people say it's in decline. You may have a valid point with the best-to-best, worst-to-worst thing, I wouldn't know, but most people will look at bests, and that's why. Not saying that's necessarily right, but that's why. And also, regardless of your points, lol at "objectively" in an opinion topic. --- "What is the greatest threat facing us now? People will say its terrorism. But are there any terrorists in the world who can change the American way of life or our political system? No. Can they knock down a building? Yes. Can they kill somebody? Yes. But can they change us? No. Only we can change ourselves. So what is the great threat we are facing? - Colin Powell |

| Level: 44 DSB Moderator | Sonic Rush was terrible, and Sonic Adventure (though I liked it), was buggy and full of people who weren't any fun to play as. =( --- Mega Sonic Endut! Hoch Hech! |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | It is true that Big in SA1 was just an evil experience. But he was really the only one. Amy could be a bit annoying, but it was nothing compared to Big. Sonic > E-102 Gamma > Tails > Knux > Amy > Big in terms of "fun". Gamma and Tails might be switchable. I just love Gamma. --- "What is the greatest threat facing us now? | Level: 43 Editor | And also, regardless of your points, lol at "objectively" in an opinion topic. Yeah, I see nothing wrong with saying that. And this is hardly an opinion topic in the traditional sense. You may have a valid point with the best-to-best, worst-to-worst thing, I wouldn't know, but most people will look at bests, and that's why. Not saying that's necessarily right, but that's why. And this would make sense if people actually did this. But they don't, they compare Sonic's best games from the past to Sonic's worst recent games. <_<; Sonic Rush was terrible ...Case in point. --- The Credo of Little Mac: Any time not spent doing ZE UPPERCUT is time that could be better spent doing ZE UPPERCUT. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Yeah, I see nothing wrong with saying that. And this is hardly an opinion topic in the traditional sense. In that one can objectively determine what is better. Now, you're probably right, with one caveat, you're [seemingly] comparing to [the older] non-traditional Sonic games. Now, as long as you're comparing them to newer non-traditional ones, cool, and I suppose you wouldn't even need to technically, but still, seems fairer that way. --- "What is the greatest threat facing us now? | Level: 43 Editor | Well, you can't be 100% objective, obviously. And if 5 people were all asked to try to truly objectively choose the best game out of a lineup of 40 games, you'd probably get 5 different results. So I'm not trying to say that "Game X is better than Game Y, this is a FACT". Just that I'm excluding personal bias and my own feelings (or at least trying to) - I honestly liked Sonic 3D Blast, but objectively it is a horrible trainwreck of a game. >_> --- The Credo of Little Mac: Any time not spent doing ZE UPPERCUT is time that could be better spent doing ZE UPPERCUT.
