What I've heard so far is basically, "It's Golden Sun".

Haven't played it myself yet, though.

From reviews I got the same impression. Not really a surprise, considering TLA was basically the same as Golden Sun except some of the pretty pictures were different.

3 months later, I can kind of offer some input here! "It's Golden Sun" is an adequate response. However, reception seems to vary greatly, and I think most people see it as the weakest of the series. Personally, I think it had the potential to be the best, but it messed up the execution of enough things that on a gameplay level you probably end up with: TLA > Dark Dawn > GS1.

Also, I think I'm in the minority opinion of liking how the game played out towards the last half/third or so. (And if you had me break the game up into two sections, I'd probably rank the latter part as my favorite in the series)

It's kind of a tough call for me, really. TLA is probably the better game, but I really liked a lot of the things Dark Dawn seemed to try to do, even if it messed up here and there, so it's kind of hard for me to say I liked TLA more.

tl;dr: IMO (which I'm sure is controversial and a minority view), Last Half/Third of Dark Dawn > TLA > Rest of Dark Dawn > GS1
