the answer is probably further than you think.
They've currently beaten Brock and Misty (and the S.S. Anne) and as of now are wandering around Vermillion City and the surrounding area, trying and failing to teach Cut to a Pokemon to enter Surge's gym. It's been a little over two days so far.
They've gotten close a few times, but keep screwing up.
I'm pretty sure Safari Zone will be the end of them barring interference from the streamer, but we're a long, long way from there.

Traded Spearow for Farfetch'd.
they actually traded for farfetch'd
Update: Farfetch'd being the one they finally got to learn Cut makes it all the better.

FIRST TRY SURGE CANS

HE MADE IT TO RAICHU
they'll have to make it back to the gym (which means using cut) but the worst of this section (learning cut) is over.
The Learn Cut -> Use Cut -> First Try Cans -> Surge fight was some of the most entertaining and hilarious stuff I've ever seen. Was in uncontrollable laughter during the Surge fight.

-Beat Surge
-Defeated a ledge that required 12 right inputs and then going up where a single down could ruin it all.
-Got the most fortuitous lag spike allowing Pidgeotto to evolve to Pidgeot
-Successfully deposited a Rattata they had taught Dig to into the PC after they kept digging out of Rock Tunnel
-Navigated Rock Tunnel without Flash
-Beat Erika
-Got Eevee (this could come back to haunt them, they've filled their Pokemon slots again after the Rattata deposit, so teaching Surf could be problematic. They got a Flare Stone lol)

I feel like it's the first time I've genuinely laughed in months if not a year+.
Losing Charmeleon and Rattata were worth it just for the Eevee gifs and narrative.
Helix Fossil died for our sins and returned Pidgeot to us from the depths of the PC, only to be reborn hours later.
These spinning tiles are brutal though. Rocket Hideout too strong. =(

They've challenged it twice so far and wiped to Lorelei's Lapras both times. They really need to:
1. Get Zapdos at the top of the list
2. Actually use Electric attacks
3. Use Thunder on Jinx and Lapras

Oh man.
Finally got by Lorelei (and didn't take much damage relatively speaking.)
Obliterated Bruno first try (Lord Helix DOING WORK. Nidoking too.)
Made it surprisingly far against Agatha with Pidgeot and a very damaged Zapdos (from Lorelei.) Got some really bull**** RNG against Arbok or else Zapdos should have won. Missed Thunder and something else (Take Down?) back-to-back. Agatha only had that Arbok and her second Gengar left.
They can do it!

That was the greatest part of this project and it isn't even ****ing close.
Summary:
-Lorelei wrecked.
-Lord Helix effectively sweeps Bruno. (Nidoking was unnecessarily called in twice and technically launched the final attack on Machamp)
-Zapdos wrecks Agatha
vs. L A N C E
-The chat ****s up immediately and pulls in Nidoking against Gyrados, Nidoking one-shotted.
-Zapdos is pulled in, but the chat spams Take Down. Zapdos destroys itself.
-Bird Jesus ****ing goes for the SWEEP, gets to Dragonite. Sky Attack knocks it down to like 5%. Lance heals fully, Pidgeot misses with its last Sky Attack use, ends up dying.
The only Pokemon left is ATV. A Level 36 Vehemoth.
And this is how legends are born
Vehemoth poisons Dragonite. Chat jokes that all they have to do is wait it out.
Dragonite keeps using Barrier and Agility, HP is slowly whittled down from 100%.
Vehemoth uses Disable. Gets Hyper Beam. Chat starts losing it, Dragonite around 50% by this point.
Disable wears out but Dragonite keeps spamming Agility and Barrier.
VEHEMOTH WINS THE FIGHT BY WAITING IT OUT LIKE 15-20 TURNS ON POISON DAMAGE. LANCE DEFEATED.
THE GREATEST FIGHT OF ALL TIME
(Vehemoth goes on to tank Blue's Pidgeot once before getting wasted by Sky Attack but who ****ing cares)
I was genuinely in tears laughing during the Vehemoth fight, and basically lost it more and more as it progressed.
I can't see that run being topped for highlight of this project.

I will say losing to Blue's own Pidgeot was incredibly poetic, considering the faith we've all put into Red's.
