Here are my thoughts before I died
Who the fuck is the narrator during the backstory? I RECOGNIZE THAT GUY BUT CAN'T PLACE HIM.

God damn, NotVash is dumb as a rock. "I'm really curious about what will happen to Colette when she receives the oracle"
I know NOTHING about this game, but I think I'm confidant enough to say that if I know my story tropes, she will die and the whole quest will be about how to find a way to defeat/seal/destroy the Desians without sacrificing Colette's life.

I like the fact you can switch party leaders and the character you control in battle without a stupid item. In ToV you were stuck with Yuri for a while until you could synth an item that allowed you to switch party members and the character you controlled in battle <_<
Genis' fireball is better than Rita's.
..........Annnnnnnnnd battle voiceovers is getting turned off. Not even 10 minutes into the game and "GET 'EM! FIREBALL!" "GET 'EM! FIREBALL!" "GET 'EM! FIREBALL!" is already annoying.

IIRC, the narrator is Cam Clarke. aka Kratos. aka that guy who has First Aid you just ran into. I think Liquid Snake is one of his more popular roles. It's not Vash.

Yeah, the English version of the skits never got voiced. In the PS3 version you can switch the language to Japanese and they're voiced then, but otherwise no voices for skits.

Also, the beginning was a bit rough yeah. Things get a lot better once you have a full party (again).
Anyway, I'm a fair bit ahead of you and having a lot more fun with the game than I... expected? I played the game multiple times back on GCN and while I enjoyed it, I didn't remember enjoying it this much.
The AI though.
I know Tales games have you doing 90% of the work anyway, but I definitely feel like the later games got better with the AI giving you a hand sustaining combos at the least. As is, they just let my combos die almost all the time. =(

missed a treasure chest because i forgot how silly this game was
i vaguely recalled a missable treasure chest in a certain dungeon but what i failed to remember was that it despawns (or something) if you do something else despite still having access to where it should be.
and i had saved too, and my backup save was like 8 hours back and augh i hate this so much. that'll teach me for picking the wrong path to explore first.
And really 100% takes like 5 playthroughs now and I have no intention of doing that so it really shouldn't bug me too much to begin with but augh. >_>

What's going to get me is grade farming. I'm going to want to have enough grade to be able to get everything I want for NG+... despite having no intentions of playing it again for who knows how long.
also i've been playing on hard for probably the back half of the game and things have been fine until the bonus bosses decided they're just going to be awful. switched back down to normal for that.

There was a couple times where he was stuck off screen. (He was playing Kratos)
I spent some time in Izoold, unable to figure out what to do, then I found a guy who had a boat, but it turns out he left somewhere else. Then I found a woman looking for Guy-Who-Owns-Boat, and my party told her where to find him, which I also forgot.
So I wandered around town some more and pretty sure I stumbled upon a potential rape situation.
Then I left town to wander around, eventually finding the Tower of Mana, which I suppose is a late game dungeon.
Then I found the Asgard Human Ranch (Which I originally misread as Ass Guard)
Then I found Ass Guard itself, got annoyed and quit playing.
