So you want a day off? Let's take a look at what you are asking for:

There are 365 days per year available for work. There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work.

Since you spend 16 hours each day away fron work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available. You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available. With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work.

You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave. This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work. We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days. We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work, and I'll be damned if you want to take that one day off!!!

So you want a day off? Let's take a look at what you are asking for:

All right, let's analyze that.

There are 365 days per year available for work. There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work.

So far, so good.

Since you spend 16 hours each day away fron work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available.

First problem.

We have our remaining 261 days, 16 hours is 2/3 of a day, so we can evaluate this with

261 * (1/3)

87 "Days" remaining.

You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available. With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work.

Houston, we have a problem.

All right. Let's go back to our 87 "Days". Now, that's the combined work total. Combining the 30 and 60 minute breaks, we get 90 minutes. That's only 3/48 of a day. So, let's factor it in, shall we?

87 * (45/48)

81.5625 "Days" Remaining.

You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave. This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work. We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days. We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work,

Yeah, more problems ahead.

Now, we have our odd little number remaining, but there a few things to keep in mind. Because of our earlier calculations, primarily the 16 hour one, that 81ish days assume you are working 24 hours straight on those days. A "work day" however, is still 8 hours, regardless of this.

Therefore, the combined total of these days off (14+5+2) is 21 "work days" off.

At this point, it becomes easier to work in terms of hours for the time being.

81.5625 x 24

1957.5 Hours Remaing.

21 x 8

168 Hours Off.

1957.5 - 168

1789.5 Hours Remaining.

and I'll be damned if you want to take that one day off!!!

That "day" would only be 8 hours, seeing as how it is a "work day", so let's see...

8/1789.5

.0044705225.

So, asking for a day off is asking for ~00.4471% of your year off.

Big difference, eh?

>_> That math made my brain stop. I come to Tiger topics to be assured there is no hint of book learning. Thanks for ruining my thought pattern, XP!

No, read the rest of my post to find out why. My brain runs on First Grade mode when I go into a Tiger topic. No need for the extra cells. That's why it stopped it. >_>

Was that really necessary?

If this topic passes as necessary, XP's use of math and logic certainly must.
