| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | More of a bracket group, actually. It's my first year of doing the whole March Madness shebang, with the brackets and the watching of basketball and the knowing the names of some of the players etc. I opted to join the One Bronco Nation Under God (OBNUG) group on ESPN since I had previous experience doing miserably in their Bowl Pick 'Em. My bracket can presumably be found here for the time being. It's apparently in the 99.7th percentile for ESPN brackets, which is pretty spiffy. I made a great deal of picks arbitrarily, and in some instances when I looked at the bracket right before a game was supposed to be played I wondered what exactly I was thinking; in particular, having Kentucky lose to WVU in the third round was definitely a lapse in judgment. (I would have pegged them to lose to Ohio State as I did WVU, though.) I picked UConn to win it after watching their conference tournament games, since I hadn't watched any of the 1 seeds and everyone else seemed to suck. I picked Notre Dame to join them in the finals because I'm retarded. My winnings: some kind of sweet, Idaho-themed jacket that I haven't gotten yet, and a permanent home on the OBNUG sidebar. Excellent. What about you guys? You picked Pitt, didn't you? ___ ~ Ogordemir ~ "The sciences have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age." ~ H.P Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | I was pretty astounded when they lost to Marquette. The Big East sure cannibalized itself this year. Also, come on, Marquette? EDIT: Fixed the topic title. Now 50% less ridiculous!

On one hand, I'm not surprised, because Big East v Big East game. Marquette beat Syracuse before, etc. On the other, it was Marquette! And yeah, The Big East kind of... had some unfortunate performances. Though watching everyone bash and lol it after all that somehow got me kind of supporting UConn out of annoyance. In any other sport, I can't get supporting teams in the same conference. Like the NFL? I'd want the rest of the AFC East going 0-12-4 every year if possible. Maybe the Bills would be allowed to win against the Patriots and Dolphins, but especially the Patriots. But I found myself grudgingly semi-supporting UConn in the obviously futile attempt that it would tone down the trolling of the Big East. (It also made for the possibility of turning a lot of the Big East jokes around. Like, "LOL Big East only getting 2 teams into the sweet 16? Joke conference! Big Least!" into "LOL Big East only getting 1 Champion out of 11 teams? XD What a joke, this was the best conference in the country? Should have had at least 3 Champions, tbqh." --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Arizona was pretty mediocre. They had Derrick Williams, but were generally lacking in tournament play: they barely skirted past Washington in the regular season and then lost to them in the conference finals. Oh yeah, and Washington sucks. Duke lost to UNC multiple times though, so I mostly just went with seeding on this one. Also, note that just about everyone thought Arizona would lose to Duke or wouldn't even make it that far. Of the group, only one person picked them to beat Duke.

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | And yeah, The Big East kind of... had some unfortunate performances. Let's see. Louisville surprised a lot of people, including myself, by being pretty awful. St. John's blew it against a mediocre Gonzaga team. Pitt, well, was Pitt. And Notre Dame's vastly overrated offense stalled against the #1 defense while the other guys made a gazillion 3's. Other than that there's not much to rag on about: Cincy and Syracuse lost to conference rivals, Marquette lost a game nobody expected it to win, West Virginia got matched against the best 4 seed in the tournament, Villanova dropped a close one, and Georgetown got hammered by the great and powerful VCU. With the exception of Pitt, ND, and Syracuse, none of these teams were really expected to have a shot of making the Final Four. Meanwhile, the ninth-place Big East team won the tournament. Yeah, I think that counts as awesome. In any other sport, I can't get supporting teams in the same conference. Like the NFL? I'd want the rest of the AFC East going 0-12-4 every year if possible. Maybe the Bills would be allowed to win against the Patriots and Dolphins, but especially the Patriots. I personally would be OK if the Pats never beat the Bills ever again. Conference affiliations are different in college. For basketball, you don't really care how the rest of the conference does because if your team doesn't completely suck they're getting into the tournament anyway, and at that point the chances of their facing a conference rival are fairly small (unless you're the Big East and you get 11 bids). For football, you grow to hate your conference rivals only if you're actively competing for an auto-bid. Mid-majors are pleased when conference mates win OOC games, since that boosts that SOS and conference ranking stuff. Last season, for example, BSU's only competition for a bid was TCU, so most of the hate was directed in that direction - until the catastrophe in Reno, of course. Being a fan of BSU, a team guaranteed to be on the bottom of the MWC every year from now until forever, I don't have a default rooting interest in March Madness, but for some reason I like Big East teams that aren't Pitt or Louisville. Maybe it's because I pity their football programs. Regardless, I wouldn't mind at all if the Final Four had been all Big East teams (in this scenario, Pitt becomes the first 1 seed ever to lose in the first round) and then the NCAA decided to just declare the tournament over, we could all go home, the Big East just won everything.
