Apparently Newton is somehow blaming himself for Carolina's record, which is funny, because he may be the only reason it's not 0-8 right about now.

On the one hand, you have to admire his humility and team spirit.

On the other hand, you have to wonder if this isn't going to become a problem. The Panthers stand a good chance of getting steamrolled by the rest of the NFC South/NFL for at least another season. (Just look how long it's taking my beloved Bucs' to go from completely god-awful to almost-but-not-quite-good.) If Newton is taking these inevitable losses to heart, and seeing them as a reflection of his performance, sure, he might just use that as motivation to get better. But he also might just become fatalistic and depressed. With a player as good as he appears to be, in multiple senses of the term, that would be really tragic.

Of course, last year I couldn't stand the guy. College football, guys.
