| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Because everybody's doing it. 1. Tyrann Mathieu. I have been secretly watching most of LSU's games this season, primarily because this guy is just ridiculously good and fun to watch. Most people don't like defensive struggles, because they're extremely boring, but when you're in a defensive struggle with this guy running amok, it's much more tolerable. Mathieu takes "shutdown corner" to a whole new level of awesome. Plus, LSU has gotten to be the inarguable best team in college football this year (the title game is only a formality) through its special teams and defensive play, and Mathieu has been there pretty much every step of the way. In the Oregon, Arkansas, and Georgia games especially, Mathieu was LSU. No single other player has done so much for their team with the stakes this high as Mathieu has done for his own this season. What's that? He's only a sophomore? Good God! 2. Robert Griffin III. I watched, horrified and mouth agape, throughout this man's deconstruction of the TCU secondary. Since then, he hasn't slowed down much, throwing touchdowns like checkdowns, albeit in a conference where apparently only one team knows how to play defense. Although Russel Wilson has been better in terms of passing efficiency and his team has actually won its conference, I don't think Wilson comes close to this level of production for his team. Baylor would be a joke if not for RGIII. If it weren't for Tyrann Mathieu's general holy shit level of awesomeness, I would say this guy should get the award. 3. Kellen Moore. This is my homer vote. Kellen unlocked the "winningest quarterback" achievement this season and had a few phenomenal games. After he single-handedly won the game against Toledo, I thought, yup, this guy is going to tear a path right through the rest of the schedule. Then he went and had the worst regular-season game of his career at home against Nevada followed by several lackluster games against mediocre defenses and TCU. I don't know what happened, but in an extremely competitive field, Moore falls short, and in all likelihood he won't even get an invite to New York. On the flip side, he's still the winningest quarterback in NCAA history, with a record that's fairly unlikely to be surpassed in the future (unless the season is lengthened), and he will go down as one of the best college quarterbacks of all time. So there's that. 4. Trent Richardson. Blah blah, runs a lot, blah blah. Hey, how many touchdowns did this guy score against LSU? 5. Andrew Luck. "I don't always throw interceptions, but when I do, I prefer pick-sixes." Unfortunately, the Heisman voters seem to believe defense isn't a thing, so RGIII or Trent Richardson will likely be the winner. As a general rule, the FBS does not reward merit. ___ ~ Ogordemir ~ "The sciences have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age." ~ H.P Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu |
