Looks good for Denver. Looks... bad for Kansas City.

It's obviously a two-team race, because LOL Oakland and LOL KC. The real question is: does San Diego suck this year?

The answer is probably yes.

Process of elimination.

Even with Oakland handing them the game, they still barely won. Don't expect much... I know it's week 1, but I would not be surprised if Denver went 6-0 in division play.

This Broncos/Falcons game.

This sure is...

...a game.

Also, is it just me or were the Broncos just challenging out of rage towards the end there?

I can't think of any other explanation outside "rage challenge" for the 3rd challenge. Challenging a 12 men on the field call on 1st down with your last challenge in the second quarter?

I'm just waiting for that to cost them when they need a challenge later. They got bailed out on the TD at the end of the half because it went to the booth.

Hm... didn't think Manning would be quite that rusty. Also... you'd think they would run the ball more in the first half given that we got like two or three runs of over 15 yards. As for the officiating... um... what the fuck.

Challenging a 12 men on the field call on 1st down with your last challenge in the second quarter?

THOSE FIVE YARDS ARE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS AND SOBBING QUIETLY IN THE CELLAR

Questioning the Broncos' coaching choices is an exercise in frustration.

As for the officiating... um... what the fuck.

This is what happens when you replace somewhat competent professionals with people you found at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Who needs to send the game into overtime when you can send the first half into the two hour mark!

The Broncos are now looking pretty awful. Peyton Manning may no longer be PEYTON MANNING.

At any rate, this division race looks a whole lot more exciting!

So that just happened. I think he's PEYTON MANNING again. Or it could be that Rivers chokes in big games. Whatever the reason, that was an entertaining game...

That second half may have been the most entertaining thing I've watched in the NFL in a fair amount of time. Though still not even the most entertaining MNF Peyton comeback (Colts/Bucs that one year was just too hilarious)

Peyton is so classy he's just letting teams score whatever they can for a whole half before demonstrating he only needs one half to destroy them utterly even given their head start.

I do not share this opinion.

The plan was to spend five weeks sucking, then make it look like your career is over in the first half of MNF, then BAM it's all over

From Jon Bois at SB Nation:

This is the eighth time in NFL history, and first time in nine years, that a team has scored 35 or more points after being shut out in the first half. The Colts last achieved this in 2003 by scoring seven points in the third quarter, 28 in the fourth, and three in overtime to beat the Buccaneers, 38-35.

In non-AFC West news:

It is apparently a totally not-a-penalty defensive play to shove the opposing receivers out of bounds to make them ineligible receivers.

Your thoughts, Ogor? >_>

Oh, wait, that was actually totally allowed because Freeman was out of the pocket?

WTF?

...Okay, this stopped being funny and started being really, really messed up.

...why is that a rule.

That is a good question.

Here is some analysis from Bucs Nation.

I mean, either way, it wasn't going to be a touchdown (lol NFL rulebook), but seriously what the fuck is this shit

On the other hand, TB gave up 458 yards to the then-1-4 Saints so there's nothing new to see here, folks!

Actually, the only part of this rule I have a problem with is that receivers don't become eligible again if they immediately re-establish themselves after being forced out of bounds. Then you can have the "once the QB leaves the pocket everything goes!" rule, which I assume was written for reasons other than this play, without all this stupid bullshit.

The AFC East should have its playoff slot revoked. No one wants to win games in this division. The Jets are simply more skilled at the Patriots at losing games!

I really don't get why they don't. Nobody wants to see Sanchez play. Not even his own mother. (Especially not his mother.)
