It was tempting, but I managed to avoid it.

...I think. >_>

Anyway, it's up in the Saturday section.

For the record: This review was written in 2001. Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire were released in 2002. So there were only two Pokemon games named by color (i.e. main series) on the market at the time. Guess how many Mother games there were?

Pokemon Silver/Gold was released in 2000, so there were four games named by color at the time. Assuming you count silver and gold as colors.

This is the game where you beat up hippies and possessed lamps

Just like real life!

Actually, I'd feel quite confident saying the cities in Mother are bigger than a lot of the cities in modern RPGs... but I digress.

Since he says "little tunes and the cities", emphasis mine, I'm inclined to believe he didn't want to say the cities were little in addition to the tunes.

"Ick".

Add this fellow to the growing list of people whose libido and erectile function vacillates according to their most-recently-played game.

ostensibly because he's advocating breaking the law (yes, that 24 hour thing is just a myth)

What's all this?

It was nominated for Worst Endgame Balance in an 8-Bit JRPG, but Pokemon Red/Blue ended up winning.

On what grounds was that award given? If the E4 constitutes the endgame for Pokemon Red/Blue, I remember having a lot of trouble beating them for the first time. Because I sucked.

I'm not counting each RBY (for example) as three different games and nobody else should either. >_> Notice this doesn't get applied to anything else: nobody tries to say Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black are different games, for example.

I realized this after writing it, but figured it still worked because one of the biggest complaints about cities in JRPGs is that they're incredibly small (see: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ThrivingGhostTown ).

"Whoops".

What's all this?

It's commonly believed that if you download a ROM, it's legal as long as you delete it within 24 hours. Last I checked, this was completely untrue and generally used as a cop-out. <_<

Basically, in Red/Blue, Special controlled both Special Attack and Special Defense, making Pokemon like Alakazam and especially Mewtwo incredibly broken. Psychic as a type was pretty much unstoppable, critical hits rates were messed up, Ghost-types didn't function properly, and there were a myriad of other issues that were noticeable throughout the game, but only truly crippling at endgame and (even more so) post-game.

Well I had to buy them separately. >_>

Also I forgot about Yellow. For good reason.

see:

TV tropes, eh? Not this time, Internet!

It's commonly believed

By... complete idiots? I suppose that does make it common.

Ah I see. Well I guess the game designers predicted most players would be like me and not know what the hell they were doing. Like, I traded my starter (Charmander, but I think it was a Charizard by the time I accomplished this amazing feat) to some guy for a Gastly.

Not a Haunter/Gengar.

A Gastly.
