| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Articles must be approved. Yours was approved! Are you British, by chance? ___ ~ Ogordemir ~ "The sciences have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age." ~ H.P Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Practically the same country!

| Level: 10 Lurker | Why did you think I was British anyway? There are large, stuffy, British communities here. Complete with old people and tea houses. |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | You put your punctuation outside of your quotation marks.

| Level: 10 Lurker | I generally do that if the sentence ends 'in the quotes' such as dialogue in a story, otherwise, no. I didn't realize it was a regional thing. Actually, I was hoping someone would point that out. Now I wonder if people read my stories and such in a British accent... |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | I generally do that if the sentence ends 'in the quotes' such as dialogue in a story, otherwise, no. What? I refer to this sentence from your submission: Perhaps, the websites that are 'free and open', aren't as free as previously thought. I didn't realize it was a regional thing. It is and isn't. I do it as well despite speaking (Pacific Northwestern) American English. In the US, though, the prevailing style is for punctuation to go within quotation marks, and domestic publishing houses have all largely adopted it.

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | He means that the punctuation will go inside the quote if the sentence ends "like this." But if the quotation is in the middle of sentence "like this", he puts the punctuation on the outside of the quotes. <-> "What the fuck is Alice doing in Wonderland anyway? Who the fuck told her she could leave the god damn kitchen in the first place?" -Random guy on Xbox Live http://www.backloggery.com/kodan882 |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | I see. My confusion was over not knowing which practice "this" was referring to.

| Level: 43 Editor | In the US, though, the prevailing style is for punctuation to go within quotation marks, and domestic publishing houses have all largely adopted it. i have gotten marked down on so many papers for refusing to do this. --- "You're childish. What are you getting? Are you getting strawberry? Ha! That's such a childish flavor, only children eat strawberry." |

| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Excellent, Kenri. Together, you, crkn, and I can overturn the authoritarian punctuation regime!
