If your MDEF > their MDEF and your DEF > their ATK, it instant kills them. Otherwise it's normal damage.
Possibly the fact that they're each doing roughly -660 damage. <_<
They'll do just 0 now. I finally fixed the negative damage error, to the best of my knowledge.
You must've been casting them against Turtles or something.

The good:
Wild Horses seems to work, although when I used it it only boosted the enemy's ATK.
Stamp Down seems to work.
Karmic Possession works.
Silent Strength works.
Thiry-Barb Strike works.
The bulwark set works.
Rally the Horde works.
Rash Rush and Helter-Skelter work.
Impale seems to work.
Valkyrian Spear works.
Crowd Control works.
Necrosis works.
Freeze works. (Although there's no reason it shouldn't.)
Berserker's Offensive works.
Charge! works.
The bad:
Execute does damage when it can (it still does negative damage against Turtles and Whales, though, but it can damage Krakens), however its secondary effect can't be tested by me.
Divebomb may or may not work, however, if you try it without a flying mount, you get a fatal error.
Joust doesn't work.
Mortify does not work:
Kenri prepares for an attack.
Popeye prepares for an attack.
Istvan prepares for an attack.
Mewtwo cast Mortify on Shark!
Shark's body collapses!
Popeye is taken...
Popeye was killed!

The turn order is always the reverse of my team's formation.
Example:

Now Mortify only kills them if they don't cast a spell. This makes it substantially less retarded. (EDIT - Oh, and your stats still have to be higher.)

This is quite odd.
My main character (Kenri) has somehow dropped to 0 DEF and 0 MDEF.

Troubling. Now, I'm fairly certain I never put more than, say, 10 stats into DEF and never put anything into MDEF, but he's a Marshal... His equipment should be giving him some boosts. O_o
I hope this isn't the result of killing Marutin. >_>

If you use it, but killed in between the "--- cries out to the gods..." and the actual damage, it doesn't go off.
I'd say it might be intentional, but it doesn't make much sense given they've already called for the gods.

Think of it this way: the gods are too busy processing your death to do your dirty work. As far as the game mechanics are concerned, multi-targeting spells, multiple-attack spells, and a few spells that require two steps to complete will be either partially or completely canceled if the caster is killed before Part B can execute. This is because you're only casting Part A, and Part A then goes on to generate Part B at a slower "speed".

The original version was: Kills caster. Inflicts damage equal to caster's DEF to all enemies.
Instead, it 1) does not kill the caster and 2) curses the enemy, which seems to do nothing. >_>
Portal to Eternity (I love that name (makes me wish the spell was cooler >_>)) seems to work, but nothing can touch my Master anyway, so I can't really tell.
