I don't remember, but it definitely wasn't Sennin, and it definitely wasn't Hokage.

I think a lot of people just wanted Assassin and Jonin to be swapped, but now it's too late to do that without even more confusion, soooo...

To clarify, it wasn't Sennin because Sennin became the Hermit class.

Okay yeah, basic summary of the topic with that discussion:

Kenri: I don't like Jonin.
Ogor: I do.
Scorp: I don't. A retarded blind monkey could come up with a better name, let's let Kenri try.
Kenri: I can't find one.
Scorp: "Oh."
Kenri: The problem is that going from Assassin to "High Ninja" is stupid.
Ogor: It's not stupid if you don't know what it means!
*about 300 posts later*
Link Dude: How about Hokage?
Kenri: No. Means "Fire Shadow", has no relevance outside of Naruto.
Scorp: I considered it, then promptly hit myself in the face.
Link Dude: How about Sennin?
Kenri: That... could work, I guess.
Scorp: It's okay.
Ogor: No. But I could make it a DIFFERENT CLASS!!
Kenri: It's too lame for that.
Scorp: Yeah.
Kenri: Unless it had SQUIRRELS.
Everyone: yessssssssss hermit class
Link Dude: What about Shadowwalker?
Everyone: No.

The end.

Some of that might be out of order or said by the wrong person, but I think I got everything important.

Err... Sorry, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, honestly. Are you saying we can't use Assassin at all, or that if Assassin were moved to Rank 3, what would Rank 2 be called? Because that would change my answer.

(And out of curiosity, are you changing the names of any other classes?)

I'm not going to eliminate Assassin altogether, nor am I going to switch its place with Jonin. I do however need a replacement in the Ninja/Something/Jonin series.

This is the only one of the original fourteen class trees that's going to change.

Shinobi?

And if you're moving Assassin, please tell me it's going to become a new class of Thief -> Rogue -> Assassin. >_>

Shinobi?

Does this class make sense as an upgrade from Ninja?

And if you're moving Assassin, please tell me it's going to become a new class of Thief -> Rogue -> Assassin. >_>

Well, I can say that two of those classes will exist. >_>

Does this class make sense as an upgrade from Ninja?

Far as I know, it's basically a synonym of "ninja", so no, not really. And yet I can't think of anything else, nor could anyone during that old topic when this first came up.

Well, I can say that two of those classes will exist. >_>

I am intrigued... yet suspicious. <_<

Wikipedia provides a few words that have been used for ninja: oniwaban, suppa, rappa, mitsumono, kusa, igamono. Of these, oniwaban seems to refer to a specific group of ninja, suppa sounds funny, rappa even funnier, kusa doesn't make any sense to me, and igamono is clearly out of place. Mitsumono might work if I knew what mitsu meant.

Otherwise, Shinobi it is!

yet suspicious.

The class system on a whole isn't undergoing too many changes. Some special classes are getting hosed though.

I was trying very, very hard to avoid obscure Japanese words. And even if I wasn't, all of those suck. >_>

But yeah, aside from Shinobi, we could go to artsy class names like "Shadow" or "Whisper", but personally, I tend not to like those very much.

Please don't kill Arcane Knight.

Please.

I don't want to deal with the whining again.

I don't even know if xp will start playing again, but it's just not worth the risk.

With good reason.

But those are at least English. <_<

On a side note, what think you of "Stalker"? It sorta works, but carries too much non-ninja baggage to be viable in my opinion. Still, throwing it out there just in case.

Ninja -> Stalker -> Jonin? That seems to fit less than Assassin.

But those are at least English.

Haruspex is only kind of English. >_>

Yes, you're right. <_<

But I'm really not having any luck finding other options.

Actually, hold on. Let me check Disgaea, they have like 6 names for every class!

...

Okay, yeah, you're gonna love this. >_>

Ninja -> Adept Ninja -> Elite Ninja -> Shadow Ninja -> Master Ninja -> Shinobi

Ninja -> Adept Ninja -> Elite Ninja -> Shadow Ninja -> Master Ninja -> Shinobi

So we go from regular ninja all the way through master ninja and somehow end up back at ninja? Awesome!

I guess I'll use shinobi then, apparently nobody cares what it means.

I'm just saying what Disgaea's Ninja classes are called and how their class tree progresses.

Clearly they had trouble with this as well. <_<

You could always use it for now and change it if somebody besides me decides to show up and suggest something better. >_>

Another idea I'll just throw out there: some sort of constructed word, similar to the proposed Shadowwalker, only less dumb. Except we'd have to be careful to not make it sound more impression than Jonin, and I can't think of any examples.

I also have another name to add to "Whisper" and "Shadow", only this one's slightly better: "Shade".

Nightskipper is indeed silly. I think I'm more inclined to make it a random monster than a class. Also, Ninja -> Nightskipper is confused at best.

Shade is a race.
