WTF happened to this?

As you may or may not know, I started this little endeavour when Ogor announced his distaste of Summoner's Seal and "left". Although I don't think he ever officially stated that he was haulting progress on it, when the captain of a vessel says "Ya know, that water is getting awfully high...", it may be time to abandon ship.

In my infinite wisdom, I decided to try out RPG Maker, and see if I liked it. I did, and from that, I decided to start this little project - for two reasons.

The first, and aforementioned, reason, was because TFN was more or less without a patron game. In an attempt to rectify this problem, I sought to create a "console-style RPG" of great magnitude.

The second reason was to get a different take on storytelling. As an aspiring writer, I believed that an RPG would help me improve writing interactions between characters and dialogue in general.

Since the first reason is now a non-factor, I am left with only the secondary reason to motivate me.

Wait, so... What's happening to the game?

Because I was no longer motivated by a desire to deliver a game to you, the userbase (all 5 of you!), my drive to create the game quickly and produce some tangible results that could actually be "played" was mostly diminished.

It sounds selfish, yes. However, I think Summoner's Seal is far better than anything I could have created anyway, so it's not a big loss.

...What you're trying to say is, you've stopped working on the game?

No.

And yes.

To compare, while Ogor was "gone", I was working on the game roughly 4-5 hours a day, at least 5 days a week. Now, I am working on the game far, far less. As in, sometimes I will go for days at a time without even opening RPGMXP.

What I believe happened, was that I bit off more than I could chew. I rushed into a project without thinking it through, posted about how great it was going to be, and decided to get the details later. There was no time for planning, dang it - those encounters weren't going to randomize themselves!

For the record, the only reason I have not yet made a Bush/Iraq joke is due to my massive ego. It might also be in exceedingly poor taste, but when has that ever stopped me?

Unlike the Dubya, however, I know when I'm fighting a lost cause. I'm getting our troops out of there while only most of them are dead.

Have I sufficiently beaten that metaphor yet? Good.

...So you've stopped working on the game.

The current game, probably. I believe I could make it work, but that seems like more effort than it's worth. And considering I still don't have an actual plan...

But, as I have paid $60 for the full version of RPGMXP, I feel it would be a waste to not do something with it. So is another game in the works? Possibly. I've learned from my mistake, though, and am not saying anything definite.

What happens to this board?

That's up to the admins now. There's no real reason for it to stick around, but that's true for most of our boards. I could delete it or move it myself, but level 47s aren't supposed to be able to edit boards. I mean, that's never stopped me before, but still...

Raise your hands, how many of you know me well enough to have seen this coming? <_<

I'm sure we've all done this countless times. Like that one time I wrote an online card game then stopped because I realized that debugging it would take twice as long as writing it.

Just leave it here. If you do get the urge to make a game again, it'll be available for that purpose. It's not taking up much space as it is.

Not me. I'm an optimist.
