(The only reason I think xp dying is causing this is because nothing can damage me with the exception of Energy Cylinder, which does between -35 and 35 damage, and I find it hard to believe it would do the same amount twice in a row.)
EDIT: Okay, maybe it is Energy Cylinder, this time I was actually paying attention and EC did 32 damage to me. Hmm... On the bright side, I made xp kill himself!

It did 180 on a Salmon without any modifiers.
However, once I had Enfalme up, it did 1116 Damage to a Salmon.
Obviously Hellfire should benefit from Enflame, but x6.2?
I'm not complaing too much, because it's awesome, but it seems odd.

This gives you an incentive to use Enflame - it'll be the second-most mitigated field spell in the game,

after the light/dark ones, which are cancelled by their parallels and by the "cosmic"/"psychic"-aligned spell
Think I got this. Light/Dark are cancelled by their opposites and other non-physical field changes.
(Enflame will be cancelled and negated by Submerge and the nature-aligned field spells).
And Enflame is cancelled by Physical Field Changes?

Monsters gain EXP as long as they are alive, equipped or not, also, more than one can gain it this way.
(I had Pony and Drake unequipped, and they both levelled up after the end of the same battle.)
However, if a monster is unequipped via death, and not brought back via Equip + NPC Heal. No EXP is gained.
That how it should work?

Each field spell does three main things:
1. Improves aligned spells.
2. Hurts counter-aligned spells.
3. Screws with counter-aligned field spells.
Counter-alignments are as follows:
Water: Fire
Fire: Ice
Electricity: Wind
Ice: Water
Wind: Metal
Nature: Fire and Electricity
Metal: Nature
Light: Dark
Dark: Light
Mind: Light and Dark
The reason why Enflame gets so hosed is that Water prevents it from ever coming back, and Nature cancels it. The only other field spells to get cancelled by more than one other field spell are light and dark.
