Actually, it wasn't. Since due to that massive level up, I threw 70 points into attack, amongst other boosts, I now have 100 attack and 52 defence. Making Father Trout and Sharks my whores.

...My ally keeps getting screwed though. His defence is like..22, with the same stuff as Lynx aside from boots, which would screw his ninja speed.

Yes, that will happen. EXP/Shrines will lead to items/money/something once you hit a certain level, while contributing will yeild items AND money/something. This will be true in the Alpha or Final version.
