| Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | The only thing missing from my beautiful battle system (apart from items and spells and monsters that actually do something, of course) are the formulas required for processing things. That's where you come in. There must be enough videogaming experience on this board to fill a small encyclopedia. I need you people to provide me the following formulas (these names don't actually represent anything in the game, so don't be afraid): Damage calculation against normal opponent. Your Great Floating Fist of Eternal Coolness attacks a Sniveling Worm. How is damage calculated? Damage calculation against a "defending" opponent. Your Hammerhead Penguin swats a Massive Metal Tank of Doom that decided to hit the defend button instead of actually attacking. How is damage calculated? Magic damage calculation against normal opponent. Your Really Flashy Sage Character Level 99 casts Ultimate Universe Destroying Force of Ultimate Destruction Blast on a Lawn Gnome. How is damage calculated? Magic damage calculation against a "defending" opponent. Your Hilariously Useless Token Clown Character Level 2.5 attacks a Giant Magical Shield of Eternal Salvation that decided to "defend" instead of attack. How is damage calculated? I also need: An experience chart. You have three million, two thousand, one-hundred-fifty-three point one five experience points. What level are you on? (Etc.) Attributes, races, and classes. Classic attributes being fire, wind, water, etc. Examples of race include elves, humans, ghosts, etc. And when I say classes, I'm thinking along the vein of magician, swordsman, thief, etc. A class progression chart (i.e., a magician can become a sage at level 56) would also be nice. Misc. stats. To take an example from the only videogame I've played since last August, ROSE has things like charm, concentration, and sense, which affect various things in battles and otherwise, apart from the clearcut attack-defense distinctions. If anyone has any ideas about extra stats, I'd like to know what those stats are, what they do, and any formulas I might need in order to implement them. (I.E., if you come up with an accuracy or evasion stat, how do I calculate whether something hits or misses in relation to the stat?) And that should be it. Keep in mind that I already have my own ideas, but I think they all suck, so I want to know what we have here. ___ ~ Silvas ~ Buddha promised me Nirvana and all I got was this lousy T-shirt. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Since MBA is basically on a week vacation, I'll take a shot at this. I'll be using a lot of some abbreivations for terms, feel free to change them for the real thing. (ATK = Attack, DEF = Defense, MATK = Magic Attack, RES = Resistance ("Magic Defense") Damage calculation against normal opponent. ATK + d(5xLevel) - 75% Opponent's DEF Damage calculation against a "defending" opponent. ATK + d(5xLevel) - 150% Opponent's DEF Magic damage calculation against normal opponent. MATK + d(5xLevel) - 75% Opponent's RES Magic damage calculation against a "defending" opponent. MATK d(5xLevel) - 150% Opponent's RES I also need: An experience chart. You have three million, two thousand, one-hundred-fifty-three point one five experience points. What level are you on? (Etc.) Experience Needed to Level Up to "n+1" 100 x 2^(n-1) (Where n is your current level. i.e. Level 1 = n = 1, EXP needed for Level 2 is 100x 2^(1-1), 100x1 = 100 EXP. If you're Level 9, then to reach Level 10 you need, 100x2^(9-1) = 100x2^8 = 100x256 = 25600 EXP.) If you wanted to slow down the numbers somewhat, you could replace 100 with a smaller number. Attributes, races, and classes. That I'd have to think about, so I'll try to get around to it later. >_> Misc. stats. Combat-Applicable Speed Skill Those two would increase "normally" like ATK/DEF Critical Chance (in %) = (Skill/2) - Opponent Speed Not Combat Applicable, or at least, probably not primarily. Persuade (You could branch it into different types if you wanted, like Charm and Intimidate, etc.) Again, maybe I'll think of more later. --- xp1337: Your former local puppet admin. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Didn't notice Law. Eh. Well, those two probably won't make it. As for the rest... ATK + d(5xLevel) - 75% Opponent's DEF I'll be using the "skill" stat, in which case this will be changed to "(ATK + r(SKILL)) - (.75 * DEF)", where r is a random number between, say, 1 and 5. I prefer not to relay on level for calculations. ATK + d(5xLevel) - 150% Opponent's DEF Again: "(ATK + r(SKILL)) - (1.5 * DEF)" MATK + d(5xLevel) - 75% Opponent's RES MATK d(5xLevel) - 150% Opponent's RES Same as above. Experience Needed to Level Up to "n+1" 100 x 2^(n-1) (Where n is your current level.) So the expansion would look something like this: Level 1: 100 * 2^(0-1) = 100 * 1/2 = 50 Level 2: 100 * 2^(1-1) = 100 * 1 = 100 Level 3: 100 * 2^(2-1) = 100 * 2 = 200 Level 4: 100 * 2^(3-1) = 100 * 4 = 400 Level 5: 100 * 2^(4-1) = 100 * 8 = 800 Level 6: 100 * 2^(5-1) = 100 * 16 = 1600 Level 7: 100 * 2^(6-1) = 100 * 32 = 3200 Level 8: 100 * 2^(7-1) = 100 * 64 = 6400 Level 9: 100 * 2^(8-1) = 100 * 128 = 12800 Level 10: 100 * 2^(9-1) = 100 * 256 = 25600 So, if I give 1 experience point per dead monster, you would need to kill 25,600 of those monsters to get from Level 9 to Level 10. Do you prefer a system by which it's a steady 500 exp for each level? Critical Chance (in %) = (Skill/2) - Opponent Speed Got it. Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Nature, Light/Holy, Dark, Law, Chaos, Neutral/None. I will use: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth/Nature, Lightning, Light/Holy, Dark/Unholy/Shadow/something, Neutral/None. Law and Chaos fit within Light and Dark. Respectively: Goblin/Dragon/Half-Dragon, Half-Fish, Half-Bird, Shaman/Elementalist, Spirit, Elf/Druid, Angel, Demon/Devil, Lawful Human, Chaotic Human, Neutral Human. Half-animals probably won't be worth it, as I'm allowing allies as either non-people (birds, dragons, fish, etc.) or people. What I like: Spirit, Elf, Angel, Demon, various Humans. Thanks for the excellent help, comrades. Keep it coming! ___ ~ Silvas ~ Buddha promised me Nirvana and all I got was this lousy T-shirt. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | So, if I give 1 experience point per dead monster, you would need to kill 25,600 of those monsters to get from Level 9 to Level 10. I had been thinking the EXP wouldn't "reset" on a level, i.e. After reaching Level 9 (12800 EXP) you'd still have that 12800 as a foundation of sorts, and you'd be aiming for the 25600 EXP to reach Level 10. For what it's worth though, I made that under the impression that as time went on, monsters would yield more EXP, so it wouldn't be that time consuming to level up. Do you prefer a system by which it's a steady 500 exp for each level? I don't really have a preference. Either way is fine with me. --- xp1337: Your former local puppet admin. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | I second xp's motion. "Cheats" would be so stupid on so many levels. I had been thinking the EXP wouldn't "reset" on a level, i.e. After reaching Level 9 (12800 EXP) you'd still have that 12800 as a foundation of sorts, and you'd be aiming for the 25600 EXP to reach Level 10. Ah, I see. So you'd only need 25,600 battles TOTAL to get to Level 10. That's quite a bit more reasonable, and it would be easier to enter into a database, too. For what it's worth though, I made that under the impression that as time went on, monsters would yield more EXP, so it wouldn't be that time consuming to level up. That yeilds the unfortunate difficulty of finding a formula to calculate experience yeild per battle. Unless you would like to yeild your services.
