Chapter 28 - Breaking Dawn

Explored the map in Exploration Mode to figure out what I was up against. It can be summarized as: Ursula is hiding in the SE corner now. Her pet paladin is in the hallway with the stairs on the west side of the map. The rest of the enemies are mostly mages with Thunder tomes, axemen with Swordreavers, and armor knights with Steel Lances. There is also a Luna Druid with an Earth Seal, but I'm not sure if I'll have time to steal it.

Notably, I don't think there's a single enemy in this whole chapter that swords have an advantage against - at best, they'll be neutral to some stuff. So, I pretty much ditched all the swords all my characters were carrying... and noticed very little difference, because really, I just spam Iron Axes/Handaxes these days.

Okay, let's do this.

...You can't Hammerne a Lockpick.

...welp. Guess I'll have to take one off a thief, then!

West team: Sain, Kent, Ninian, Legault, Pent
East team: Eliwood, Hector, Serra, Florina, Raven, Merlinus

Everything's going well. Kent and Sain take out the paladin. Legault steals a Lockpick. Time to move towards the-

what are you doing zephiel don't leave the pillar to heal

Zephiel: wat ever pillers are just dum wite rocks anyway

Restart.

...Oh geez, I screwed this attempt up so bad. I actually forgot to give orders to the entire east team on one turn. Oh well, let's see what happens. Legault kills the paladin with a Lancereaver.

......did two reinforcements just spawn on the SAME SPACE? what the fuck. Luckily, had Pent fix that shit by killing one of them. Legault steals a Lockpick. Kent and Sain are charging the throne room.

Nino moves towards Eliwood's group to heal. ^5 Nino, clearly you are smarter than Jaffar and his "dur dur charge the enemy" tact-

oh right, bolting.

...

I like to imagine the Nino vs. Ursula conversation as them shouting back and forth from like half a castle away, before Hector chimes in with "Will you two PLEASE shut up?!"

Restart.

Killed the paladin. Stole a Lockpick. Sain, Kent, and Jaffar are now blockading the SW room that all the reinforcements spawn from. Legault helps himself to a Brave Lance and a pair of Boots. Raven and Florina kill Ursula. Hector recruits Nino. Eliwood moves toward Zephiel's room.

...Oh, mercs can double Zephiel. How nice. And even though I can toss Physics to him, he still gets killed in one round.

So basically, I've failed this chapter three times so far, all three times to something different, and all three times to something I had absolutely no way of doing anything about.

THIS IS WHY THIS IS A TERRIBLE CHAPTER. Well, one reason of many.

Restart.

...There's nothing I can do.

Restart.

...........

THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO.

Restart.

Okay, time to unleash the fucking FURY. Killer weapons, Brave weapons, Bolting, the works.

Kent and Sain charge the reinforcement room in the SW after murdering it up against Maxime. Legault takes a Lockpick. Legault helps himself to some treasure. Pent gets pulled off heal duty to help Kent and Sain against the reinforcements, because Jaffar has decided to be a dick and run off chasing shamans in the hallway Maxime starts in. Fuck you, Jaffar.

Hector recruits Nino. Florina is going on a dangerous mission into an area with absolutely no visibility, because THAT'S good tactics, right? Oh but hey, I wander in on those mercs. I don't know where the fuck they came from, but now that Florina's here, they're all going to attack her instead of Zephiel. It's worth mentioning that if the Fire Emblem AI was better, they could still get to Zephiel and kill him, and Florina would be absolutely unable to stop them, but the AI so crappy that it actually works in my favor for once. Fuck this game.

I need to work out my frustrations. Ursula! C'mere a minute!

Ursula: Fuck you! *Bolting*

...

Eliwood, you know what must be done.

And then Eliwood defeats Ursula in single combat. That's two of the Four Fangs he's now beaten, unassisted, without taking damage.

Sain, Kent, and Pent clean up, stealing all the EXP for themselves om nom nom. Nino talks to Jaffar. Legault gets to work on the remaining treasure chests.

...XD that enemy thief is so pro. Went around the entire map in order to avoid my party and get to the other treasure chests. So close, and yet so far. Serra! Blast him. He is too clever to leave alive.

(And that's the story of how Chad became an orphan.)

Killed every enemy on the map. I didn't manage to steal the Earth Seal from the Luna Druid, but... oh well. It's not like I need any more money, anyway. I've got like... fucking 80,000 gold right now. that's as many as four farinas. and that's terrible.

So, yeah, that was pretty much an awful chapter in every possible way. It's like, it wasn't even like the pirate ship, or Talons Alight, or any other chapter I've had trouble on. In those cases, the game was legitimately outplaying me. It was doing it in a really fucking terrible way that has absolutely no merit whatsoever - sort of like showing up to a duel, going through the motions of turning and taking 10 paces, but then when your opponent turns around, he finds that you're in a Russian tank - but outplaying me nonetheless. This chapter, I can't even get annoyed at it because it's like... fuck. You need to play terribly to have a chance at winning, and even then, random luck decides your fate 100% of the time. The whole thing was just one long string of me making a :| face, even when I won.

Chapter 28x - Battle After Battle Before Dawn

-Lyn promotes. I'm going to try to get her bow rank to S, but I can't guarantee it happens.

Goddamn, I hate this chapter. It sure was nice of the game to put the two worst chapters right next to each other, wasn't it? No, it wasn't. Neither one of these should be in the game. Night of Farewells is definitely the lesser of two evils, though, so there's that.

...You know, I don't think I've ever beaten this chapter in a non-cheaty way. Most of the time I just turtle like hell at the start of the map until around turn 20, when all the pathways reappear, and then just treat it like a normal chapter. When I don't do that, I just cheese the hell out of it with a bunch of flying units - I think one time I played through this game with Florina, Fiora, Farina, and Heath all being trained, and they made this chapter a joke.

And you know, I'm determined to cheat my way through it this time, too, because really, it doesn't deserve anything else. I'm not going to legitimize this chapter by playing it the way it's supposed to be played.

Kenri: FLORINA
Florina: what
Kenri: IT IS TIME
Kenri: TO BECOME
Kenri: MY MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Kenri: Go take out the boss. Solo. By turn 7.
Florina: In case you haven't noticed, I'm kind of underpowered and can barely handle simple tasks.
Kenri: Oh really?
Kenri: ...
Kenri: *sunglasses*
Kenri: Deal with it.
Florina: ...I understand.

AND THEN THROUGH LUCK AND EVIL, I MANAGED TO WIN

FLORINA KILLED SONIA, ENDING THE REINFORCEMENTS REALLY EARLY

SAIN GOT BERSERKED, BUT THEN GOT POISONED, WHICH OVERWROTE THE BERSERK STATUS

FLORINA GOT PUT TO SLEEP, BUT IT HAPPENED THE TURN AFTER I HAD HER SIT ON THE THRONE, AND IT TURNS OUT THRONES HEAL STATUS CONDITIONS

I STOLE THE ANGELIC ROBE AND BLUE GEM AND OPENED ALL THE CHESTS

AND IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVER

not really. fuck this stupid chapter.

Chapter 29 - Cog of Destiny 4: Medieval Warfare

I LIEK ENEMIES DO YOU LIEK ENEMIES

BECAUSE THIS LEVEL HAS SO MANY FUCKING ENEMIES

You'd think they'd actually make it more difficult, but no, instead it's just the same, but with magic users instead of normal physical attackers! Which means that it's pretty much entirely based on luck, because you need to defend chokepoints against dozens of enemies, each of which can chip away 3ish points of damage per attack before dying, and they WILL throw their lives away for that slim chance of killing one of your units!

It's almost like these chokepoints confer no practical advantage whatsoever! But that would be terrible game design, so it couldn't- oh. right. HHM. Fuck me and fuck this game.

...

Okay, Lyn got killed because she's just too pro for this game, this game where actually hitting and killing enemies is a bad thing, so restart time. My new strategy for this playthrough in general is just going to be, give each chapter one attempt playing the way I normally play, and if I lose, on all my subsequent attempts I'll just go ****ing berserk and try to end things as fast as possible. I just want this playthrough to be over, so I can start Tales of the Abyss, or Halo, or something else, I don't care what, just as long as it's not this.

ATTENTION ALL UNITS: The following strategy takes effect immediately. You are to treat this like Genesis mkII. Pent will be deployed, and you are cleared to use Ninis' Grace, Physic, and Barrier staves.

Florina goes on a solo mission to the village, and while she's out there I decide to not let those shamans and druids fuck around with my low RES units. Florina butchers them all. After surviving the initial waves and the shamans that avoided Florina's wrath, I draw the monks/priests, and defend using a combination of Lyn, Florina, and Eliwood. After killing all of them, I draw what I assume will be mages and sages... but nope, valkyries.

I guess you could say that what follows were our

*sunglasses*

Valkyria Chronicles.

Anyway, same strategy applies. Lyn + Eliwood + Florina. Lyn is getting great bow EXP from all this, by the way. <_<

After killing all the valkyries, I draw Vaida and recruit her, while drawing Lloyd's weird differenty looking druids with Florina. I kill them, then draw the heroes with Florina. The wyvern reinforcements actually gave me some trouble because I only left Kent, Hector, Oswin, Raven, and now Vaida to deal with them. I assumed that would be enough! SILLY ME. They manage, but not without some hardcore jobbing and needing Vaida's assistance.

Florina kills the heroes and draws the valkyrie with berserk, who she also kills. Florina then draws sniper, which has the side effect of also drawing the five valkyries with various status staves from the west side of the map. I'm forced into a total retreat, and it's not helped by the fact that wyvern reinforcements are still coming.

Somehow, I manage to survive. Eliwood gets berserked, but restored, and Eliwood + Lyn + Florina + Lyn again thanks to Ninian manage to wipe out the sniper and some of the valkyries. The remaining valkyries launch futile attacks and put Eliwood to sleep, and are promptly murdered by Lyn and Florina.

We leave Eliwood asleep to conserve Restore uses (really should've bought another one of those... and for that matter, should've bought some weapons here FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-) and continue on. Florina wastes the two remaining priests' Purges, then murders them, because she's the only one I trust to be in Lloyd's range. I couldn't remember what triggered Lloyd going mobile, so I played this super safely; xp says it's just Nino talking to him, but I could have sworn that on hard mode, attacking him does too... Ah well, better safe than sorry. <_<

Lloyd is a scary, scary boss, and I didn't want to put, really, any of my party anywhere near him. Florina was the only one who could fight have at even a slight advantage, so I pressed that advantage for everything it was worth.

Brave Lance + Filla's Might = Florina doing 40 damage to Lloyd per turn. Couldn't continue Eliwood's conquest of the Elite Four, but oh well.

We get the Iron Rune and end the map. FINALLY, Hector promotes. Just in time to be marginally useful for endgame.

Chapter 30 - The Berserker

-All right, let's do this.

-Hey, the little dashes and bullet-pointed writeups are back!

-Oh little dashes, what fun we will have together~

-...I don't like this chapter. What do you think, little dashes?

-The little dashes do not like this chapter either.

-...Yeah I'm going to ignore that Pure Water even though I want it.

-Hector is armed with a Killer Axe and a Swordslayer. Matthew is armed with a Killing Edge, a Lancereaver, and an Iron Sword. The Iron Sword was because I was not confident in my ability to finish the chapter with just two 15 use weapons for Hector, but really, it wasn't a problem and I shouldn't have brought that Iron Sword. And it would cost me later. Cost me dearly. <_<

-oh, I see, by arming Hector and Matthew with Elixirs, I can draw the thieves to my starting position. Neat.

-...And by being very clever, I can then murder the thieves while retaking my Elixirs and still getting their Chest Keys.

-That's why I didn't bother bringing a Lockpick.

-Okay, stole the Speedwings.

-Crap, the guy with a Goddess Icon and two other enemies are being drawn to my position.

-...I screwed up. Goddammit. I fail at inventory management under pressure. I don't think I can be trusted in a real, life or death inventory management situation.

-I might have to mail my FE cartridge to xp and let him do Battle Preparations for me.

-But then when I get it back, I'd probably have no gold and an inventory of 100 Steel Axes.

-So forget that idea.

-What was I talking about again?

-Oh right, losing the Goddess Icon.

-There was nothing I could do, I needed another turn but every weapon Matthew and Hector had 2HK'd the Goddess Icon enemy, and they couldn't even run away from him. =/

-It was the ****ing Silver Blade that messed me up, I swear. Goddammit.

-Well, like with Merlinus' defeat earlier in this playthrough, and an occurrence in FE6 that I don't think I've gotten to yet in the writeups I've posted, I'm just moving on. This is, once more, my idiot tax. It's what my idiocy has cost me, personally.

-We get the Wolf Beil and the Elixir.

-Hector kills the boss with his Killer Axe and gets the Tomahawk... which I promptly drop an Elixir for. Goddammit. At least that was just a 2 use Elixir, I still have the 3 use one from the chest.

-Divine Weapon time.

Hector: Are you... Durban?
???: Hm? Who?
Hector: Durban, one of the Eight Heroes? I was told-
???: Oh, that guy? I killed him ages ago.
Hector: What? Then who are you?
???: I am the bone of my sword.
???: Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.
???: I have created over a thousand blades.
???: Unknown to death, nor known to life.
???: Have withstood pain to create many weapons.
???: Yet these hands will never hold anything.
???: So as I pray...
???: UNLIMITED BLADE WO-
*Killer Axe!*
Hector: Yeah, let's speed this up.

-Next time: HANGING FROM LEDGES - THE GAME

Look at me, referencing VNs I've never played!
That said, since I can add the items at anytime, I will simply finish Lyn Hard Mode now and save myself some trouble.
My birthday is in September, which is fire. Guy is also fire. This works very well because Guy is an incredible character!

Prologue: A Girl From The Plains

I actually want to make this chapter as risky as possible to clear it in as little time as I can. I rush left, and then rush northwest while the brigand swings at me. Then I confront Batta The Beast in open combat. I swing, he hits me (oh fuck) I swing again. Batta makes the lethal swing, and Lyn is like NOPE.AVI and dodges, making two more cuts into him. The other brigand runs up, misses, and dies to Lyn. Lyn's 4th turn sees her demolish Batta and gain HP, skill, speed, and luck. Typical Lyn rofl. I then seize the throne on turn 5, which is the number needed for the s-rank. Sweet!

I have to appreciate how trying to be the best at this game involves almost dying to Batta the Beast, fuck.

Chapter 1: Footsteps of Fate

Kent gives Sain his Iron Sword because Kent is worse than Sain. Lyn weakens the brigand, Sain finishes him. Lyn goes to forest to take down the other brigand, Sain rushes enemies, Kent trails behind. Kent swings at the next brigand with his iron lance and fails (what a shock), Lyn finishes him off after taking a hit (ughhh) and gets Luck/Res (typical Lyn...wait, what?), Sain finishes off the other.

Sain goes after the boss after Kent donates a vulnerary to him. Sain levels up, getting HP, Str, speed, defense, and resistance (I love Sain). Sain finishes the boss after Lyn donates a vulnerary to Kent.

Chapter 2: Sword of Spirits

This is typically where most players meet their end due to Glass, but let's see if I can manage this. Kent rushes forward and Lyn goes to donate her iron sword to him for the moment (seriously Lyn is just less useful than these two right now). Sain also charges ahead. The brigand attacks Kent. Kent weakens him more, Sain charges to the wall to hit it with a lance, and Lyn goes south of Sain to grab an iron sword from him. The brigand then finishes himself off on Sain, who gets Hp, Str, speed, and luck. Sain breaks down the wall, Lyn weakens a brigand and gets hit, Kent finishes him. Sain misses the brigand that attacks him twice with his lance (ugh). Kent finishes the next brigand by himself, Lyn runs north to donate an Iron Sword to Sain, who finally finishes the brigand. Next turn we all rush into the cathedral with Sain going south and he finishes the brigand. Sain stabs Glass for 13 (what a beast), Kent misses him. Glass dies off of Kent and gains Hp, skill, and defense (lololo). Lyn seizes on turn 7 just in time.

FINALLY I DON'T HAVE TO BE RETARDED WITH IRON SWORD TRADING ANYMORE THANK YOU MANI KATTI

Chapter 3: Band of Mercenaries

Lyn goes over to recruit Wil, who we will probably never use. Florina visits a village to get 2000 gold. Kent kills an archer, Sain goes to build up support with him, Wil runs right. Florina pokes a mercenary a lot. Florina kills the merc. Wil shoots the northern bandit through a wall, Sain weakens the next brigand on a forest, Kent builds support with him, Lyn runs right. Brigand dies off of Sain, who levels to 4 and gets str/speed/luck what a beast! Sain whacks another brigand and two mercenaries all in the same enemy turn, confirming him for god tier. Wil goes to shoot the archer, then Kent finishes him, leveling to 3 and getting Hp, skill, and defense. Florina heads east, Sain builds support with Kent. Florina runs over to the brigand and criticals him (wow) for a kill. Kent runs beside Migal with Sain to support him, and Wil just runs around. Lyn goes to the shop as quick as she can. Kent criticals on the counter, so I guess I will be stuck with 2 iron swords for the rest of time. I end up finishing this chapter on turn 4 which is insane. Kent gets HP and speed at his level 4.
[Spoiler for Fire Emblem: Lyn Hard Mode Part 2

Chapter 4: In Occupation's Shadow

We must not repeat CG's terrible tragedy of the Chapter 4 Brigand incident here! All of them are going down! Kent and Sain choke the south, Wil shoots the west wall, Florina pokes it, Lyn runs east. Lyn dodges Dorcas, Kent strikes a brigand on the counter, Sain murders 3 brigands, gaining Hp, str, and skill. Wil takes a shot at the archer as a counter, then shoots him again to kill him. Florina pokes a wall, Lyn recruits Dorcas. Sain breaks the formation to run southeast and waits next to a brigand. Dorcas whiffs with the hand axe. Kent criticals to kill the brigand on the counter, criticals to kill the next brigand (4% lol), then Sain strikes the brigand and Dorcas hits with the hand axe. Kent kills the brigand by Sain and gets hp and skill, Sain runs back to take down the mercenary. Wil breaks the wall and Florina strikes the mercenary behind it. Dorcas whiffs again so Lyn finishes the brigand off. Florina finishes the mercenary after the counter, getting resistance (god). Wil pings the brigand, Kent doubles the archer to kill him, Sain runs towards the boss. Dorcas strikes the merc with hand axe and Lyn weakens him. Dorcas on the counter kills the merc, Lyn criticals another, a brigand comes close to killing Florina. Florina takes a chance and pokes the brigand next turn for some xp, thankfully hitting and killing him. Kent runs to a forest to hit a brigand twice and Sain goes and waits beside the boss. Dorcas takes the iron axe from Lyn and Lyn runs to the merc to hit him. Kent kills a brigand on the counter, Sain weakens the boss, Lyn criticals the mercenary, leveling to 4 for skill/luck/res. Kent weakens another brigand. Wil runs south, Florina runs south and eats a vulnerary, Sain finishes Carjiga and levels, getting Str/speed/resistance. Lyn is reduced to 1 HP by the merc and eats a vulnerary. Florina pokes the brigand, Wil shoots the last one, and Kent kills it, gaining skill and defense. Dorcas flees, Lyn kills the merc on the counter, and sadly doesn't kill the last one, thanks Kent for stealing all my criticals..

Oh okay game, so CG's Chapter 4 Brigand instead morphed to a Chapter 4 Mercenary. Fuck you game. I'll keep the results though.

Chapter 5: Beyond The Borders

Lyn runs right to recruit Serra, who is going to be our top tier character this game. Erk is a nice bonus. Florina sneaks in a kill on the archer, leveling to 3 and getting str/speed, beautiful! Kent criticals a brigand (what the fuck), Sain runs right. Florina criticals the mercenary (...). Florina flies to the merc but out of archer range to poke him, Erk burns the merc, and the rest of the army runs right. Thankfully, the merc does not 1% critical Erk, who burns him to death. Kent weakens the brigand, Florina pokes an archer, Sain finishes him, Erk burns Bug. The brigand swings at Florina and he dies, with Florina at really low HP. Erk burns bug again and Lyn kills him, leveling to 5 and getting str/skill/speed/luck, whoo-hoo! The s-rank turn limit here is 4 and I just barely made it.

Chapter 6: Blood of Pride

I get the LEGENDARY Matthew here, who will be a top tier character for the rest of this run, along with Rath, who is only slightly less of a loser than Wil. Rath recruits Matthew and Dorcas visits a village for a door key. Kent weakens a merc who Wil takes down, leveling to 3 and getting hp/str/speed. Sain runs east, Lyn north, Erk north, and Serra just outside merc range. Florina stabs the merc on the counter, and levels getting str/skill. Wil weakens the merc and Florina finishes him. Matthew opens a chest for an Angelic Robe after Lyn hits the switch, Sain kills a soldier, Kent runs east, Dorcas runs east, and Rath runs along the northern path. Matthew criticals a soldier and gets a door key. Dorcas gives Kent the door key who opens the door, Sain kills a soldier and gets hp/str/res. Everyone else runs north. Wil weakens the archer after Kent hits the switch and Matthew opens the door, then Florina finishes him. Erk burns Bool twice. Lyn goes to Florina and takes an Iron Sword from her that I got many chapters ago. Matthew takes an Armorslayer from the chest, Erk finishes Bool, gaining...resistance. Fuck you Erk. Rath hits the last switch.

Chapter 7: Siblings Abroad

Oh hey, it's that chapter that you can finish on turn 1. Now that I can pick units, I kick Rath and Wil out of my army and take Matthew along. Matthew devours an Angelic Robe, Florina takes an Iron Lance from Kent, and Lyn donates her Iron Sword to Kent. Dorcas runs east and Nils helps him, Florina pokes a shaman twice while Matthew finishes him. Kent kills the archer. Erk burns the brigand, Matthew runs, Nils helps him, and then he impales the brigand on his iron sword, gaining Hp, skill, and defense. He wins an iron lance (wut) and then drops a door key. Florina flies south to wreak havoc on shamans. Kent weakens a merc on the counter. Florina kills the shaman, Sain goes to a village to get a Pure Water, Erk kills the merc, gaining...speed. Yay. Dorcas lands a 35% hand axe on the brigand, and Matthew goes in for the kill. Matthew slices a mercenary, Florina goes after the other shaman. Dorcas weakens a brigand with his hand axe, Lucius weakens the merc, and matthew finishes him. Dorcas finishes a brigand on a counter. Kent weakens the mage, breaking an iron sword, and Matthew finishes him off, leveling and gaining hp/def. Florina slaughters another shaman to get speed, luck, and resistance. Serra gains HP, luck, and resistance. Matthew goes in for the boss. Erk weakens him on the next turn, and Matthew finishes him off...or do we? We were only striking at air! Damn! Matthew levels anyway and gets Hp, str, skill, speed, and luck.

I went a bit over the turn limit, but to get Nils to level 7 we have to go over it in one or two chapters anyway, so it's no problem.

why would anyone do this

Well, I guess that's as good a reason as any.

Kent kills an archer, Sain goes to build up support with him

Can you even build up supports in Lyn Mode? <_<

Actually, speaking of which, doesn't Lyn Mode like... not affect your HHM ranking aside from which gem you get? So couldn't you take your time on it? >_>
I wasn't sure if supports did build up or not. I don't think I can quite S-rank Lyn mode because Nils needs a long, long time to hit level 7 so we can visit 19xx, but it won't affect things much.

Isn't going to 19xx at all a bad idea in a ranked run because you have to finish in 0 turns for it to not affect your tactics rank? <_<

Yup but I have to do this the hardcore way.

And I can just finish other chapters as early as possible to help the Tactics ranking. 0-turn chapters are great for EXP and Funds rankings. Considering Victory or Death HHM expects you to acquire 6150 experience within 15 turns, I need every drop of EXP I can get!

I'm going to put that into perspective again, Victory or Death HHM thinks it reasonable to obtain 61 levels in the span of 15 turns. I hope you can average 4 levels a turn my boy.
Chapter 7x: The Black Shadow

Ursula leaves a complete moron in charge when she could just handle us by herself. Her loss! For an idea, she has 12 defense even on normal mode, along with 22 speed. Even if he were lucky, Sain would do 4 damage to Ursula and then be killed by a counter in one hit. It would be completely impossible to defeat her if she didn't have "other matters" to attend to!

Matthew gives Sain an Iron Lance and gives all his other items except Iron Sword to Rath. When we start, Matthew runs up to a brigand and slices him twice. I don't feel like detailing this level so here's the levels I got. Nils gets hp/speed/luck/res. Matthew nabs a vulnerary from the archer. Matthew gains hp/speed/defense. Kent gains hp/str/skill/speed/def/res. Dorcas gets str/luck/def. Erk gts speed/res. Serra gets magic/luck/res. Florina gets str/skill/luck from killing Beyard. Matthew managed to steal a vulnerary from an archer and a door key from a mage, along with a lockpick.

We get to watch an e-rated suicide and then proceed to chapter 8.

Chapter 8: Vortex of Strategy

I've always hated this chapter's name, as an aside.

Our entire army rushes south except Florina, who waits just outside ballista range.Sain gets hp/str/skill/res. Sain kills a cavvy on the counter, and then Sain takes down the normal archer on his turn. Florina flies 3 south, then gets sung to. Nils gets hp/speed/luck/res. Florina flies over and smokes the ballista archer while Erk takes down another cavvy and Kent kills a merc. Lucius visits an armory to buy a fucking iron sword for Lyn at last. Yogi decides to call up reinforcements that are totally ineffective. Erk blasts a soldier on the enemy phase and Florina kills one. Erk finishes the job next turn and Florina kills the mage. Sain equips an iron sword, waits on the bridge, and kills the soldier and weakens the merc. Florina flies over to Serra for healing, then REV UP THOSE NILS CAUSE I AM SURE HUNGRY FOR SOME SHAMAN KILLS. Sain kills a soldier, Kent kills the merc, and Lucius runs east. Sain kills 2 soldiers on the enemy phase. Florina gains str/speed/def. Lucius runs east to kill the brigand in front of the village and Florina nabs the Lancereaver. Erk severely weakens a soldier for Kent to kill. A brigand approaches Dorcas and whiffs, and then Erk finishes him off next turn. Yogi is actually fairly interesting as a boss. If he lands a 2% critical, he will kill Sain, but leave Kent at 1 HP. Therefore, Sain actually sits this one out and Kent sits beside the boss. Kent swings at him twice as a counter. Kent is healed then swings twice again, Dorcas whiffs with the hand axe, and Erk blows him up for the kill, gaining hp/magic/res.

Vortex of Strategy? More like Vortex of Fellatio, you horrible tutorial chapter. Marth informs me that several Lycian League members are going to turn a blind eye to Lyn's campaign to kill the worst poisoner on Earth.

AND NOW

LYN

GET EQUIPPED WITH...IRON SWORD AND RUSH LANCEREAVER!

I notice with horror that Serra only has 5 heal uses left. Uh oh!

At this point, these team updates start to fall apart, because I didn't really record who I gave the stat boosters to, but yeah, let's give this a shot anyway.

Hector
Level 20/5 EXP 52
HP: 43
STR: 22
SKL: 16
SPD: 15
Luck: 11
DEF: 21
RES: 9
Weapon Rank(s): Axes - S, Swords - D
Support(s): Florina - A, Eliwood - B

Comments: Hector - still a beast! That SPD is disappointing, though.
VS. xp's Hector: Haha, I win STR by 5. =) Dur hur, I lose SPD by 5.

Lyn
Level 20/9 EXP 59
HP: 48
STR: 19
SKL: 24
SPD: 25
Luck: 20
DEF: 9
RES: 13
Weapon Rank(s): Swords - A, Bows - B
Support(s): Eliwood - A, Florina - B

Comments: I like that my Lyn was on track to be absolutely amazing, then I had to redo a few chapters, and now there's this. Which isn't bad, but goddammit.
VS. xp's Lyn: seriousshadow.jpg

Eliwood (+4 Con)
Level 20/8 EXP --
HP: 44
STR: 17
SKL: 18
SPD: 21
Luck: 19
DEF: 13
RES: 12
Weapon Rank(s): Swords - A, Lances - C
Support(s): Lyn - A, Hector - B

Comments: I don't think Eliwood has gotten a single good level up since I started redoing chapters, despite the Afa's Drops. Mind you, you need, what, 20 levels to actually see the Afa's Drops do anything? But still.
VS. xp's Eliwood: Well, at least I still win this one. Marginally.

Serra
Level 20/15 EXP 54
HP: 35
STR: 17
SKL: 18
SPD: 21
Luck: 23
DEF: 10
RES: 26
Weapon Rank(s): Staves - S, Light - B
Support(s): Oswin - A, Sain - B

Comments: Serra is becoming less and less useful at this playthrough progresses, because healing is needed less and less, while actually one-rounding things reliably is needed more and more, and she has neither the STR nor the SPD (or I guess Con) to do that.
VS. xp's Serra: Welp. My Serra is marginally better at not dying, I guess.

Raven
Level 20/10 EXP 75
HP: 52
STR: 22
SKL: 22
SPD: 22
Luck: 12
DEF: 12
RES: 9
Weapon Rank(s): Swords - S, Axes - A
Support(s): N/A

Comments: Triple 22s! whoo. Raven is a beast, he's just a frail beast that I can't put anywhere near any Killer weapons.
VS. xp's Raven: Being 3 levels lower doesn't make me feel any better about losing in nearly every single stat.

Florina @ Delphi Shield
Level 20/16 EXP 08
HP: 54
STR: 17
SKL: 24
SPD: 25
Luck: 28
DEF: 13
RES: 20
Weapon Rank(s): Lances - S, Swords - D
Support(s): Hector - A, Lyn - B

Comments: My current MVP, if only for her ability to fight magic users competently. You don't want to know how many stat boosters I fed her to allow her to do this, either. But hell, who else am I gonna use them on? No one who will be more useful to me than a flier.
VS. xp's Fiora: suicide.gif

Oswin (+2 Move)
Level 20/9 EXP 68
HP: 51
STR: 21
SKL: 20
SPD: 15
Luck: 9
DEF: 26
RES: 11
Weapon Rank(s): Lances - A, Axes - B
Support(s): Serra - A

Comments: Oh look, it's a unit who can reliably NOT DIE. Fucking wonderful. Now if only he could reliably kill things, but 15 SPD just ain't cutting it. (And that's after sinking at least one Speedwings into him, possibly two.)

Sain
Level 20/13 EXP 14
HP: 50
STR: 24
SKL: 21
SPD: 22
Luck: 20
DEF: 14
RES: 8
Weapon Rank(s): Lances - S, Axes - A, Swords - B
Support(s): Kent - A, Serra - B

Comments: Sain is still well above average, but his lack of RES has started to really, really hurt me. It used to be that I could send him and Kent on solo missions, but HHM's obsession with status staves has made that a lot harder to do.

Kent
Level 20/10 EXP 22
HP: 47
STR: 20
SKL: 20
SPD: 18
Luck: 8
DEF: 11
RES: 9
Weapon Rank(s): Lances - A, Swords - B, Axes - B
Support(s): Sain - A

Comments: And here's this guy, who is essentially Raven only less so. Balanced stats all around, can't take a hit, etc. That said, he's probably more useful than Raven due to his movement range, ability to rescue people, and support with Sain.

Pent
Level ??/9 EXP 55
HP: 34
STR: 18
SKL: 22
SPD: 19
Luck: 16
DEF: 11
RES: 17
Weapon Rank(s): Staves - S, Anima - A
Support(s): Louise - A

Comments: Oh look, it's this guy. He's sort of muscled his way onto my team because Guy has been too busy having 13 STR and no defenses to join us, lately. His ability to toss Physics to people is very nice, although I'm almost out of my second Physic staff, so he might not be seeing any more deployments. Realistically, though, I think I have plenty of room for him in VoD and Light, at least.

Nils
Level 20 EXP --
HP: 30
STR: 0
SKL: 2
SPD: 23
Luck: 25
DEF: 12
RES: 19
Weapon Rank(s): N/A
Support(s): N/A

Comments: Ninian/Nils is one of my strongest defensive characters. NINIAN/NILS IS ONE OF MY STRONGEST DEFENSIVE CHARACTERS.

Overall: The stats I can deal with, but I really wish some of these characters, Kent and Oswin in particular, would hurry up and get an S rank in Axes. That's probably the most disappointing thing about this.
Note: I meant to post this before that team update. Those stats are as of Battle Preparations, so they're from after this chapter.
Chapter 31 - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

This is a message from Lord Nergal: "I await you on the Dread Isle." This is a message from Lord Nergal: "I await you on the Dread Isle."

Denning is the best boss. *nods approvingly*

Okay, my plan is to deploy Sain, Kent, and Ninian in the separate area, and everyone else by the throne. Using Ninian, I can kill that Berserker Druid turn 1, then attack Denning turn 2, thus ending reinforcements and making the map really easy. >_>

..........Oh, right, ****, I don't have Ninian anymore, and Nils is being a bitch and not allowing himself to be deployed. I hate this game.

Well, let's see what happens.

>>Sain berserked.

......Wish I could say that surprises me.

Despite that, I actually do really well. Okay, so Sain kills Kent, but he then proceeds to kill the Berserker Druid and Denning while berserked. Points for style, I suppose.

Restart. Wait, that wasn't how it happened...

...At this point, I come up with a new plan, but it takes me several attempts to put it into play successfully, because apparently once something reaches the complexity of "give Serra Restore, put Serra with Kent and Sain", it requires three attempts on my part. Don't. ****ing. Ask. I have no idea. This is why I started the whole "idiot tax" thing; unfortunately it can't be used in situations like this. Aside from the Serra-related portions of my plan, I'm also deploying my entire reserve force: Pent, Hawkeye, Harken, and Jaffar. Unfortunately, I'm so low on weapons right now that they're pretty much just armed with scraps. Like, Harken is using a Steel Sword and Hawkeye has a couple <10 use Iron Axes.

One amusing attempt where Serra wasn't given Restore because I'm an idiot saw Oswin and Sain both berserked, while Kent was put to sleep. They lasted approximately three seconds after that happened.

Restart, and this time for realz. Wait, that wasn't how it happened...

Okay, plan ****ing successful. Berserker Druid killed on turn 2 by Kent. Denning killed on turn 2 by Sain. You might say, "oh, but Kenri, think of all the delicious EXP you're missing by ending reinforcements early!" But you know what? My characters are level ~10 right now, which is sufficient. And more than that, my current **** output is at zero. That is, I do not give a ****, and certainly not more than one.

We slowly wipe out all the remaining Snipers, Generals, and Druids. I actually got really lucky a couple times, like Lyn critting a Killer Axe General with her Steel Bow to one-round it, or Raven critting a General with his Armorslayer so I could put Pent to work elsewhere. Those Killer Axe Generals, I swear... Terrifying.

Chapter 32 - Victory or Even More Victory

All right, gotta finish this in 15 turns for the sidequest. Sain, Kent, and Serra are going north, because I can't leave without my buddy Rufus Shinra. (I call him Rufus Shinra, because Renault is the best character in this game, just like Rufus Shinra is the best character in that game.) Florina is going to be soloing the entire NE path and killing Limstella. Everyone else is taking the east path.

Florina takes the central village and kills the priest with a Berserk Staff. She then proceeds to Limstella's location and triggers a bunch of shamans. I really should have given her more than one Javelin; that one she had didn't stand a chance.

Sain and Kent wipe out the heroes, rangers, and so forth like total pros, and get the village. Renault! **** yeah! Best character.

Meanwhile, Eliwood is jobbing to wyverns because I gave him a Silver Sword instead of a Killer Lance, while Raven is jobbing to wyverns because... **** if I know. But they manage to get the village nonetheless. Oswin leads the charge north, and by now Florina has caused nearly all the ballistae to waste their shots. She manages a 17% chance crit against Limstella on about turn 9, I think. That was actually hairy, for a while there; she definitely could have died, but she's just such a pro at dodging ballista fire and Nosferatu.

With Limstella killed, Florina retreats onto the gate for restored HP each turn, because she's really sorta pinned down by snipers, shamans, and druids, and I think her weapon would break before she could kill them all.

Sain: Somebody call for the cavalry?

**** YEAH, SAIN AND KENT TO THE RESCUE! That's really a fantastic summary of the entire last 6 or so chapters; Florina going on a dangerous solo mission, and being rescued by Kent and Sain, while the rest of the party jobs to a Goomba or some ****. Nevertheless, Sain, Kent, and Florina wipe out the shamans and druids, while Oswin proves how useful 26+ DEF is by taking out the snipers (with Hector's help).

It's turn 11, and there are two enemies left on the map, a Hero and a Swordmaster that Florina ignored on her way to the village and then Limstella. I decide to double check the requirements for getting the gaiden chapter before sending a couple units to deal with them.

32x - Complete Chapter 32 in 20 turns or less (Hector's story only)

........PffffffffffftAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

TWENTY TURNS OR LESS?!

JOKE CHAPTER.

Florina kills the last two enemies on the map and we end this farce. One attempt for this. One. I can't believe Victory or Death has a legitimate claim for being the easiest chapter in the game. Ahaha. Comin' for you, Nergal!
Ok, I was at my friend's while playing. Chapter 9 and 10 were uneventful basically, but I made sure Matthew landed the killing blow on Lundgren despite Lundgren's 1% critical chance. Nils leveled to 7 just before we captured.

I know I said I'd wait on HHM for the MKDD disc, but I need Merlinus to reap the full benefits anyway. So without further ado, I bring you...
Chapter 11: Another Journey
Turn Limit: 0
Minimum Experience: 0
Funds: 0

Turn limit 0? That's right folks, right off the bat I'm losing Tactics rank! I have to finish this chapter fast to make up for it!

Level 1 Hector and level 9 Matthew are attacked by the Black Fang right out of the gate! This is going to be tough! Matthew unlocks the door and Hector hand axes the soldier twice, killing him. An archer shoots Hector. Matthew runs down to the archer to kill him while Hector runs southwest. Hector dodges the knight and retaliates with wolf beil, then kills a soldier who stabs him and takes an arrow to the face. Yeah, I'm in turn 2 of this run and I'm almost dead. Matthew doubles the archer and Hector kills knight, gets hp/speed/resistance and a vulnerary. The archer shoots Hector, leaving him at 2 HP, and the thief unlocks the door.

Hector kills the archer with a 52% hit chance and Matthew steals the lockpick from the thief in the chest room. The thief foolishly attacks Matthew and dies horribly, and Matthew gets hp/speed/luck. Matthew opens a chest for a red gem and Hector runs west, chomping a vulnerary. Matthew opens the north locked door and Hector runs northwest, eating another vulnerary. The archer shoots Matthew for piddly shit. Hector runs to be close to Wire and Matthew swings twice at the archer. The archer retreats and the soldier gets swung at twice by Matthew, who on my next turn impales him. Hector takes a swing at Wire with Wolf Beil and gets swung at, not getting killed by the 1% critical chance that Wire has. The archer goes and heals with a vulnerary, Wire swings, puts Hector at 2 HP, and dies off of him. Hector levels to 3 and gets HP/Str. Overall 2 archers live after Wire dies, but we had to do this chapter as quick as possible.

Turns Taken/Turns Allowed So Far: 8/0
Difficulty: 4/10 - This chapter is short, so screwing up doesn't exactly matter, but it earns points because for a good rank you -must- put Hector into lethal danger. Hector is in mortal danger at the southeast corner and if he doesn't get a Luck point at level up, Wire will put him in lethal danger as well. You can pick off the archer who ran off and healed, but the archer in the northwest room is just -not- worth bothering with at all.

Chapter 32x - The Value of EXP

Deployment: Hector, Lyn, Eliwood, Florina, Jaffar

Jaffar for chests. Hector, Lyn, and Eliwood for the oodles of EXP, hopefully bringing them up enough to not make me rely on Athos against the Dragon. Florina for supports, mainly, and also because I trust her to not die if things get hairy.

..I actually forgot to put any Elixirs in Merlinus' cart, or Vulneraries for that matter, and didn't take any with my five characters, so it really could have been a problem, but then I only got hit twice the entire chapter. Both times Hector, who can take it.

Lyn blasts Kishuna Kadaj with her Killer Bow. After a motorcycle duel, of course.
Also Athos and Nils.

Now then.

LET'S ROCK AND ROLL!!

...Killed by Uhai. Dammit.

Okay, this time, we're rocking and rolling harder than ever before.

Oswin smacks Uhai down with a lucky crit.

Florina murders it up against Kenneth.

Raven slaughters Brendan with a lucky crit.

Hector, Sain, and Kent work together to bring down Darin.

Man, this has been annoying so far... I need someone to work out my frustrations on.

...

HEY URSULA! =)

Florina murders it up against Ursula and Jerme.

Lloyd and Linus appear. It is time. INITIATE COUNTER-TROLLING.

Athos berserks Lloyd and Linus. They proceed to kill each other.

Hilarious. God that felt good. That almost made the whole playthrough worthwhile.

Lyn, Eliwood, and Hector fight Nergal. And... what the hell, you can have the final blow, Eliwood. Faaantastic.

Final Chapter: Light 2

...All right, I'll just go full disclosure. The original plan was for this chapter to be called "Light Novel", and I was going to have a whole short story here about Florina battling the Dragon with the Uber-Spear. Then it turns out the stats I looked up for the Dragon are its base stats, and it gets another 10 DEF from its weapon. So Florina can't damage the Dragon without Filla's Might, whereas before I was counting on her to be able to damage the Dragon and get a big boost from Filla's Might. And considering all the ranged magic users, I really don't feel like dicking around for 40 turns to battle the Dragon for the sake of a gimmick.

So I just used Filla's Might on Athos, got a lucky crit, and dealt 120 damage to it in one attack.

THE PLAYTHROUGH IS OVER NOW. Thank fucking Christ. That was terrible and I'm never, ever doing it again. The worst part is that it wasn't even hard, it was just obnoxious. FE6 Normal? Harder than this. FE10 US Normal/JP Hard? Harder than this. This was just such a shitty, half-assed hard mode. A few maps were legitimately made harder, but most of the time, they just threw in 50 extra weak enemies and upped the number of reinforcements per turn and called it a day. That's not harder, it's just more annoying and more tedious. It's such a-

...

d'awwwwwwwwwwww the Oswin/Serra paired ending is so adorable

What was I talking about again?

Oh right, my tactician rank! Lookit.

Combat 5/5

.........Yep.

In fairness, I didn't abuse the "buy and sell things repeatedly with the Silver Card for max funds" exploit, because hell if I care. And I nuked Tactics by, among other things, support grinding. Oh well.

I didn't do any predictions before starting like xp did, but what the hell, let's take a look anyway.

MVP: Sain/Kent

They were basically one unit that took up two deployment slots, but damn was it worth it. I put all my eggs in one basket with these guys, and it paid off tenfold. I have no idea how I'd have finished the playthrough without them, seriously. 8 move + constant WTA + an excellent support made them roughly as powerful as the entire rest of my army, Sain's tendency to get berserked aside.

Anti-MVP: Zephiel

Fuck you, Zephiel.

Hardest Map: 13x - The Peddler Merlinus

A lot of other chapters took me more attempts due to bullshit, but in terms of actual difficulty? This one probably takes it. 13 - In Search of Truth is also a good candidate.
Chapter 12: Birds of a Feather
Turn Limit: 8
Minimum Experience: 550
Funds: 15,000

First, let's go over some unit stats that have carried over from Lyn Hard Mode and Chapter 11 (also I forgot to mention Matthew used the Energy Ring in LHM):

Matthew, Level 10:
Str 9
Skill 7
Speed 16
Luck 5
Def 6
Res 0

Serra, Level 5:
Mag 4
Skill 5
Speed 10
Luck 10
Def 2
Res 9

Dorcas, Level 5:
Str 9
Skill 7
Speed 6
Luck 5
Def 4
Res 0

Hector, Level 3:
Str 8
Skill 4
Speed 6
Luck 3
Def 8
Res 1

With that out of the way, Oswin runs right to javelin a Pegasus Knight, and Hector misses it with his hand axe. Marcus visits a village for a Secret Book, Matthew runs east, Serra stays out of brigand range, and the rest of the army moves east, with Lowen and Dorcas choking, Bartre and Eliwood taking up the rear, and Rebecca just taking up the really really rear part. Hector survives an onslaught at 6 hp and runs back to Serra. Serra gets hp/magic/skill/luck/res.

The rest of the battle is too hectic to detail, so here's relevant level ups. Matthew gets luck/res. Hector gets hp/skill/def. Lowen gets str/speed/luck/def/res. Lowen gets hp/str/luck as he kills Zagan. I finished in 8 turns, which is the exact limit.

Difficulty - 6/10: This chapter is quite a bit longer than the last, even if it was the same amount of turns. The sheer number of enemies and the absolute uselessness of your southern units means that Matthew once again has to shine in this chapter. Lowen eventually will reach the north and will want to help with Zagan, but before you can do that you'll end up hating having to swing at him with Hector's 50% or so hit rate wolf beils. Overall an annoying chapter for such an early point, but not all that hard.
Turns taken/turns allowed: 16/8
Chapter 13: In Search of Truth
Turn Limit: 12
Minimum Experience: 750
Funds: 4500

Why the hell does the boss even try to hide at the start of this chapter, anyway? Wouldn't a knight generally not be very fucking good at stealth? Why not send Guy or someone to slaughter Hector? What a fucking dumbass. I hate this chapter already.

ENTER THE AMAZING GUY!

Since Guy starts as an enemy, HHM decides to give him a huge boost in stats. Guy is now even more amazing than in normal playthroughs, making this the one redeemable part of this chapter.

"I humbly await your no-doubt brilliant orders!"

prepare for unforeseen consequences

First turn: Oswin hits a bit of a snag. Literally, just knocks it over. Now that's dedication. Hector runs over to Bartre and steals his Iron Axe. Matthew rushes south to tank (why.jpg) and everyone else clogs the south end. Rebecca is shot for half her hp and responds by doing about 1/4. I hate her so much. Matthew swings at a brigand twice and a cavalier attacks Oswin for nothing.

Rebecca goes south to shoot down the brigand, Marcus kills a pegasus knight with his silver lance, Matthew runs south to slash an archer twice, Lowen takes him down, Serra heals Rebecca, and Dorcas takes down the other archer with a crit, gaining str. Oswin takes down the cavalier with a critical (what) and Hector/Bartre advance west while Eliwood moves south. Bartre hits the pegasus knight nearby on the counter, while Lowen also does so.

Hector runs west and throws a hand axe at a pegasus, and Bartre kills the other weakened pegasus with a hand axe as well and levels, getting hp/str/luck. Rebecca shoots down the pegasus in front of her, getting hp/skill/speed/res. Serra heals Lowen and Lowen visits the village for a mine. Matt waits on the fort and the rest of the army moves south, with Oswin going west. Bartre is attacked by 2 peggies and reduced to 1 HP, while Matthew is attacked by several enemies and not even phazed.

Bartre throws a hand axe at the pegasus to kill it, while Hector swings at a snag. Dorcas weakens a brigand whom Eliwood kills, gaining hp/speed/def. Lowen takes down an archer with his iron sword and Matthew recruits the AMAZING GUY! Guy doubles back to kill a brigand while Marcus kills a cavalier. Rebecca is healed and runs southwest along with the rest. A bunch of enemies attack Guy and he just doesn't care, while Matthew is shot by an arrow.

Marcus takes down a brigand and Guy kills an archer, Dorcas rescues Guy as Guy is at half, Serra heals Eliwood, and Matthew attacks the archer who shot him. Lowen pokes the other archer with his iron lance and Rebecca sits there looking pretty as she is really terrible. Bartre blows up the snag with his hand axe, Hector waits to ambush a cavvy with wolf beil in the forest, and Oswin keeps trucking south. Rebecca is shot and retaliates for little damage, and Matthew carves up the other cavvy. The archer near him heals.

Bartre visits the village for a torch and Oswin goes south. Matthew steals a vulnerary, getting hp/str. Marcus kills the soldier with his iron sword, Failbecca is healed, Serra gains magic/skill/speed/luck/res. Dorcas kills the archer, while Eliwood and Lowen weaken the other. Hector goes with Oswin and Failbecca just sits there looking pretty again. Hector kills 2 cavvies on the counter, getting hp/str/def, while another archer shoots him.

Matthew kills a cavalier and Oswin kills the archer. Lowen kills another archer, gaining HP (why.jpg). Hector sits on a forest to eat his vulnerary and the army advances west, with Dorcas dropping off Guy safely. Marcus steals his vulneraries. A pegasus knight strikes Matthew and gets weakened.

Matthew runs back to give an iron sword to Guy, who slaughters the Pegasus Knight, gaining hp/skill/luck/def/res, and Marcus donates a secret book and a vulnerary to Hector. Hector eats the secret book and waits with his wolf beil while our army runs west. Oswin tosses a javelin at Boies just for lulz but misses. Hector kills a pegasus on the counter and weakens a cavvy.

Oswin strikes Boies with his javelin, Serra heals Hector, and Guy takes down the cavalier. Marcus puts Boies to 2 hp with his silver lance and Hector rescues him.

Oswin tosses his javelin at Boies and Dorcas of all people finishes him off. What the fuck ever, that's cool. Dorcas gets hp/str/luck and Hector seizes on turn 10.

Difficulty: 6/10 - This chapter is just annoying. There are pegasus knights everywhere, Rebecca is godawful, and Eliwood isn't much better. Hector, Oswin, Matthew, Marcus, and Lowen are your definite MVPs for this fight. Lowen is actually a lot better than I gave him credit for, too, though he's definitely more bland than Kent or Sain. Boies is just obnoxious to kill, as he had a 1% critical rate on Hector and Oswin, so fuck him, Dorcas took him to town.

I can't believe Victory or Death has a legitimate claim for being the easiest chapter in the game.

Well, if you decide to just rush Limstella and prevent the reinforcements, then yes, but if you stick around the full 20 turns and leave Limstella around for the EXP things can get pretty crazy. And a lot more fun and epic.

what the

Neither of those chapters are even remotely difficult. I approached Chapter 13x from a "I intend to clear this map" perspective, and was doing well, although that task was out of reach. And Chapter 13 is pretty easy as well.
Man, you know how I play this game. I try to finish as fast as possible (in terms of real life time, not turn count). That involves either rushing the boss, or turtling at the start point and letting the enemies kill themselves against me during the enemy phase. The latter was out, so yeah.

Plus, I might as well try to up the difficulty a bit by not being so overleveled.

Yeah, but after around chapter 18 or so your characters are so overpowered that nothing really qualifies as difficult anymore. Genesis almost manages, but then I dock it points for having status effects, because status effects in Fire Emblem are such a bad idea. <_<
