| Level: 37 Advanced |
Chapter 23x: Genesis Turn Limit: 25 Minimum Experience: 650 Funds: 19,000 Deployment: Hector, Hawkeye, Legault, and Guy on the right side. Florina, Priscilla, Lyn, and Ninian on the left. Florina gets the Emblem Seal and a Chest Key. Turn 1: Florina flies west and javelins the wall. Lyn smacks it with iron sword. Ninian dances for Florina and she killer lances the Luna Druid to death. Priscilla runs west. Hector goes southwest in front of the cracked wall and drinks a Pure Water. Guy goes 1 east of Hector and drinks a Pure Water. Legault moves to the door and trades for a Pure Water, drinking it. Hawkeye moves one north of Hector, trades to take Hector's Pure Water and Elixir, and smacks the wall with his hand axe. The Bolting Sage fires at Merlinus and misses, while Purge Bishop misses Lyn. Turn 2: Florina throws a javelin at the next wall and Lyn destroys it. Ninian dances for Florina and Priscilla amps her with Barrier. Florina flies in and killer lances the bishop to death. Legault opens the door and Guy runs in to one-hit kill the Bolting Sage. Hector kills a Nosferatu Druid with his Brave Axe and Hawkeye smashes the next west wall with his Silver Axe. Guy dodges a sleep spell. Turn 3: Legault opens the next door and Guy kills the Bishop in that room. Hector runs in and kills the Bishop in the next west room with his brave axe and Hawkeye smashes the third wall in. Florina opens the nearby door with the door key she won from the Bishop and Lyn goes in to double the Sage. Ninian dances for her and she chips at the west-most wall while Priscilla starts to head back Hawkeye's way. Guy dodges another sleep. Turn 4: Florina throws her javelin at the wall to destroy it and Lyn doubles the silenced Luna Druid. Ninian dances for Hawkeye who runs east, and Hector gives Florina his door key he won. Guy dodges the final sleep and Kishuna flees. Turn 5: Lyn doubles the Purge Bishop in the western-most room with her silver sword. Florina goes near her to support. Hawkeye and Ninian work their way to the southeast and Priscilla drinks a Pure Water and goes east, making sure to nevertheless stay out of the range of the Silence Sage when she can. Hector runs east. A Luna Druid from the southwest runs closer but can't reach Lyn, and then a mage and shaman appear as reinforcements. Turn 6: Lyn doubles the Luna Druid who thankfully misses her. Florina blocks off the passage to the north so no mages can run in. Hawkeye by this point has reached the sages, and he equips a hand axe and chugs a Pure Water. Priscilla heals people as appropriate and Hector goes to work on the shamans. The next few turns basically consisted of Hawkeye destroying Sages and Druids, using Elixirs when needed. Lyn hit level 16 by killing some mages and thankfully dodged them, while Florina worked her way southwest (being mindful of the Berserk/Purge Bishop, but not for long as Hawkeye doubles him with a hand axe from the adjacent room during a certain turn) to nab a Silver Blade from the chest after opening the door. On about turn 12 I've gotten to the south area and nabbed a Berserk Staff from the chest there, which I give to Priscilla. She rides north and has just enough range to Berserk the Swordmaster. Ninian then dances for her and Priscilla grabs Ninian and runs. Hawkeye has to take a Luna or two but no criticals happened thankfully. The group rides northwest and Priscilla lands Berserk on the Hero inside. The Swordmaster and Hero make very short work of the Sniper and General along with each other, and after the melee is over with, only the Swordmaster is left standing with 7 HP. On turn 14 Legault finally nabs the Secret Book from the final chest. On turn 16, Guy proves that Super Nintendo is better than Genesis by killing the Swordmaster with his Wind Sword. The lords' combined levels are exactly 50 (Hector 20, Eliwood 14, Lyn 16) so we're going to Linus's Four-Fanged Offense next. This can probably be done in 15 turns if the Swordmaster and Hero are incredibly lucky but after all this, I really don't mind just being 1 turn over the total turn limit. Difficulty: 10/10 - Genesis is a really annoying chapter to get through, and I feel in a lot of ways it shouldn't be. Priscilla was hit by Silence and Sleep again and again even with Pure Waters (so about 20-30% chances) and this happened constantly. You can fail on turn 1 if Florina doesn't critical the Luna Druid and either gets criticaled, is hit for her total HP (that druid can have up to 23 magic and Florina has 23 HP) or if the Purge Bishop hits her with his 50% or so chance on the enemy phase, as Priscilla doesn't have enough magic to reach her with Physic. By far the most enraging enemy in this entire chapter is the Bishop with Purge and Berserk, as after Kishuna is gone he can snipe your units with glee. To make matters worse, anything that can go wrong in this chapter will go wrong. Lyn has been hit by Eclipse before with a 4% chance followed by dying to a 40% Purge, I've had a turn-16 victory where we'd win if Hector smacked the Swordmaster with his Swordreaver with an 82% chance which missed, I've had Luna critical with less than 10% chances an ungodly amount of times, and Priscilla has been silenced far too many times to count. Oddly enough though, after all that, my Berserk shenanigans almost always worked despite 30-35% chances of hitting the Swordmaster. That all said, Genesis is a chapter you should definitely go to in a ranked run. Notice those EXP and Turns requirements - they're easy as shit to beat if you go fast (not that I recommend ever going fast in Genesis, it's insane as I've outlined). This really helped cut down my turns and everyone I used gained tons of levels, even if I did have to spam Hawkeye (it is possible with Legault and Guy to take down the Sages but you'll have to dodge Mr. Purge and that 40% chance of hitting is too scary for me). Hector gained 2 levels, Hawkeye gained 2 levels, Priscilla gained 2 levels, Guy gained 2 levels, Lyn gained 3 levels, and Florina gained 2 levels (Legault sadly missed most of the action), so you can easily see why it's a great chapter even if you overuse Hawkeye. | Level: 37 Advanced |
In other good news, I just made a test regarding my funds ranking - I can promote all the units I want to promote without hurting funds! (Maybe not Eliwood but we'll see later) Which means my current prospective endgame roster of Florina or Fiora (I'll wait until both are 20 to decide), Raven, Lucius, Eliwood, Kent, Sain, Serra, Priscilla, Erk, and Heath may become a reality! After tallying it up btw, the Mario Kart bonus items are worth a total of 66,000 gold. Broken as shit. Also I'm going to have to ask - who should I give Afa's Drops to? I was thinking Lucius as he's level 9 at the moment, but I could also save them for Nino.
--- "Because nothing says "level 80 dark elf warlock" like "radical 19th century feminist"!" -Ogordemir99 on World of Wollstonecraft |

| Level: 43 Editor |
I would seriously consider promoting Eliwood instead of Lucius/Serra/Erk if that would offset the cost (I know Heaven Seals are worth more than Guiding Rings but I forget by how much). You're going to be inundated with magic users/healers either way, Pent could easily replace one of them, and Eliwood has higher movement and superior ability to rescue people. Plus he's gonna be required in a lot of later chapters. Then again, you're actually doing this challenge, while just the thought of it scares the hell out of me, so I don't know why you'd listen to my advice. Whatever! | Level: 37 Advanced |
Yes, really considering Eliwood. Horse units are so useful for this kind of run and he hasn't disappointed me as much as Lyndis (DODGE! DODGEEEE!). For Four-Fanged Offense so far I've brought a level 4 Wil who gains 50 experience with every kill and can barely pick off weakened enemies. It's actually a lot like having Lucius around - a single wyvern knight would kill him in one hit, so I have to keep him away from them or surround Wil with units who only die to wyverns in 2 to 4 hits. | Level: 37 Advanced |
Chapter 24: Four-Fanged Offense Turn Limit: 22 Minimum Experience: 1,900 Funds: 41,500 "Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy." Deployment: Hector, Serra, Fiora, Wil, Raven, Lucius, Canas, Dart, Heath, Priscilla, Rath, Ninian. Fiora gets the Emblem Seal. Hector gets Silver Card. Linus is our opponent for this version of Four-Fanged Offense. His in-game description calls him the "Rabid Hound", but he's actually the "Mad Dog" of the Black Fang. Consistent translation is consistent. Turn 1: Geitz appears, showing up to help the Black Fang. The army advances west. Heath and Fiora try to block off the mercenaries. Dart goes near them with a Swordreaver to drive off any mercenaries and Ninian goes with him. Raven blocks off the north passage as does Hector. Turn 2: Wyvern Knights have descended and attacked Heath. Wil pokes a weakened one with his steel bow to kill it, Rath kills another, Lucius kills a mercenary. Dart moves to be 9 squares from Geitz. Turn 3: Dart moves 1 square northwest of the forest west of Geitz. Ninian dances for him and Dart recruits him. Geitz runs to the southeast village for an Earth Seal. The army desperately takes down the wyvern knights that are attacking and holds off the conga line of mercenaries. Turn 4: The army advances north. At this stage, it is very important that you stay out of the range of Bolting Sage up in the north. There is no way in hell you are going to survive the 2nd conga line of mercenaries, Pirates slowly advancing, the wyvern knights, and that Bolting shot, plus we'll get to punishing him later. Conveniently you can choke the Merc Conga Line with Heath just 1 space southeast of the vendor, and Rath can comfortably park there to shoot stuff down. Wil by this point is in a ballista firing at things for experience. Turn 5: By this point I work on drawing out the western Silver Sword Hero. He is for some reason much faster than Linus. With the help of Raven luring him out, we manage to take him down with Rath. By this point, there is a 2nd issue to mention. You must pay very close attention to the Wyvern Knight positioning every single turn. Wil can take a hit from a Steel Lance Wyvern Knight, but Lucius cannot and Priscilla cannot (she should be dodging them in theory but never rely on what should be statistically possible in HHM). Use your units to wall them whenever you need to, and remember that Heath will eventually die if he's poked by like 3 Wyvern Knights and a Pirate in one round. If you know you can't avoid absolute bullshit, have Serra use the Sleep staff. Do not rely on Berserk if any is leftover from Genesis - you will be poked anyway, as Berserk's description is a total lie and the enraged unit will 90% of the time utilize it in a way to inconvenience you. The party slowly advances along the northwest coast after that, with Fiora visiting the villages for a Silence staff and an Orion's Bolt. I eventually on about turn 11 have Geitz lure out Bolting Sage, and then on the followup Fiora with Barrier rushes over and one-rounds him with Killer Lance, winning an Elfire. She then sends Killer Lance back to Merlinus so she can have Slim Lance on and dodge the incoming Wyvern Knights. Also I have Hector at some point buy 6 of each iron weapon except bows, some javelins and hand axes, some vulneraries, a 2nd Restore Staff, and a lightning tome and fire tome. By about turn 15, we have finally reached Linus, and we start to go to work on him. Clearing out all the Wyverns with Geist, Canas, Rath, Heath, and Raven, we have Ninian avoid Linus's hand axe to have him equip it as it's preferable to his silver blade. On turn 18, at last, we strike against the Mad Dog. Heath pokes him from the south with Axereaver. Raven rushes in and doubles him with Silver Sword, and then finally, Rath shoots him down for 2 damage exactly to his 2 hp with an iron bow. Serra has hit 20 by the end of this chapter and I promoted her on the preparation screen for Chapter 25, giving her a Lightning tome. My turn count is now under the limit and all categories are 5 stars, which is great because- >>Checks next chapter's turn limit >>0 turns >>FUCKKKKKKKKKKK Levels: Priscilla gained 4 levels, Fiora gained 3, Ninian gained 2, Serra gained 3, Canas gained 1, Lucius 2, Heath 5 levels, Raven 3 levels, Dart 1 level, Rath 5 levels, and Wil gained 5 levels. Geitz almost gained a level himself. Overall I gained 3,500 experience at least from this map alone! Priscilla may actually be able to promote within a chapter or two as well! Difficulty: 8/10 - Four-Fanged Offense is a well-needed break from the terror that was Genesis, but this is a chapter that will take a very long time to complete. You must check the positions of every enemy near you every turn, make sure you have no lethal Boltings able to happen from that Sage, and then there's Linus himself. Holy fucking shit. Linus's only weak points are that his defense is horrid, he is immobile, and 13 attack speed by this point is not as scary as it used to be. The two Heroes he has with him and the myriad of Wyvern Knights are just brutal, and not to mention by this point the pirates have finally caught up to you even if they aren't that much of a problem. Overall, if there's one chapter you should play on S-Rank HHM, it's this one. Linus is an absolute beast to take down with such terrible units like I have and you have to be incredibly cautious and strategic for this. On HHM S-rank this suddenly is up there with Cog of Destiny, Battle Before Dawn, and Victory or Death for "epic battles", even if this is definitely the easiest of them. | Level: 37 Advanced |
Chapter 25: Crazed Beast Turn Limit: 0 Minimum Experience: 0 Funds: 0 Deployment: Hector, Lowen, Sain, Kent, Raven, Heath, Fiora, Florina, Serra, Priscilla, Ninian. Fiora has the Emblem Seal. Ready for some motherfucking science? I'm going to finish Crazed Beast before Farina even shows up, and without killing Pascal. You could say it's quite a...wager! Oh ho ho! Turn 1: Heath goes 1 north of Raven and rescues him Ninian dances for him. Heath flies max west and drops Raven off to the south. Serra and Priscilla use Barriers on Fiora and Florina, who fly northeast and kill the pirate. Ninian is rescued by the cavaliers and dropped off 2 spaces south and 1 space west of the ballista. Fiora wins a Divine by killing a monk on the counter with a javelin. Turn 2: Raven kills the warrior with his iron sword. Heath flies where he used to be and kills a pirate. Lowen goes north, Ninian dances for him, and Lowen runs onto the northwest fort, attacking a cavalier with his iron lance. Florina visits the village for an Elysian Whip with a javelin equipped. Fiora flies north beside her and kills a monk with her javelin. Hector kills a pirate for the lulz and Serra kills a Pegasus Knight, followed by Priscilla using Barrier on something for experience. Lowen dodges Pascal's spear. Turn 3: Raven kills a pirate. Heath sits at the gate for a point. Florina kills the bishop. Fiora claims the 2nd gate for a 2nd point, killing a monk. Kent kills a cavalier, Sain and Ninian advance and Sain misses Pascal twice but whatever. Serra kills a pirate, Priscilla uses a barrier on Hector for experience. Lowen approaches the third gate, kills a cavalier with a javelin, and claims the third point, winning me the battle! After I start the next chapter, Merlinus promotes! Difficulty: 1/10 - HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Pascal is, in all fairness, a fairly scary paladin compared to someone like Eubans, but who gives a shit? Seizing all 3 gates in 3 turns offers very silly EXP, but at this point I have to keep my turns low. I'm still 5 stars in all categories! I'm keeping a save at this point in case my experience rank goes to shit for some reason, however. | Level: 37 Advanced |
Chapter 26: Unfulfilled Heart Turn Limit: 11 Minimum Experience: 1,500 Funds: 62,000 Deployment: Hector, Eliwood, Lyn, Heath, Serra, Priscilla, Kent, Sain, Lowen, Dorcas, Bartre, Lucius, Rebecca, Ninian. Rebecca gets the Emblem Seal. God, do I even need to outline this chapter at all? I've brought level 9 and 10 axe fighters (Dorcas and Bartre respectively) and a level 5 archer (Rebecca) and they were still able to hold their own against these enemies. The only scary thing at all about this chapter is Vaida, and why on earth would you try to kill her in this kind of run? Only Canas amped by Ninian could manage to do that. Actually, since she breaks the HP cap and Canas has 10 magic, no, no he could not. Anyway, I had Rebecca jump into a ballista and kill shit, the axe fighters go on the southeast forts, and watched the wyvern knights in the north end rearrange themselves with amusement, drawing some down for Eliwood and Lucius to kill when appropriate. I got a Hammerne from the village and won a Luna and Halberd from the random enemies. Levels: Eliwood gained 2 levels, Priscilla gained a level, Ninian gained 2 levels, Serra gained 2 levels, Kent gained a level, Heath gained a level, Lowen gained 2 levels, Bartre gained a level, Lucius gained 2 levels, Dorcas gained 3 levels, and Rebecca gained 4 levels. I don't have a single team member at the moment below level 10 other than Rebecca and Wil who are 9. Sadly because of the retarded way turn counts work with survival chapters, I am above the turn limit again, but I will remedy this with Pale Flower of Darkness. It's on to Kenneth's chapter! Difficulty: 1/10 - I have no idea why the game throws this chapter at you whatsoever to be honest. It's basically a chapter where Vaida gets to show the fuck off and nothing important happens. Actually, the most important thing in this entire chapter is getting to speak to Ursula for a moment in that village. That's fucking sad. Speaking of, I guess I should address the boss of this chapter - impossible. You want a real 10/10 challenge? Try taking her on in an S-rank run or something. It's absolutely pointless but it'll give you bragging rights. The hardest part of this chapter normally has to go to...surviving Luna from that druid. Yeah, that's really it. If you do that, you're gold. If all those wyvern knights in the north acted like 90% of the ones in Four-Fanged Offense this chapter would be incredibly scary, but as it is it's just terrible. | Level: 37 Advanced |
Chapter 27: Pale Flower of Darkness Turn Limit: 18 Minimum Experience: 1,550 Funds: 51,000 "Belief in a cruel God makes a cruel man." Deployment: Hector, Eliwood, Heath, Legault, Rebecca, Lucius, Serra, Priscilla, Kent, Sain, Ninian, Fiora. Heath gets the Emblem Seal. We've got Kenneth's chapter for this run, which means someone is going to end up with a shiny Aura tome by the end of this. Turn 1: Sain blocks off the passage with the general. Kent goes behind him. Rebecca, Lucius, and Serra advance east and the rest of the army charges north, with Heath getting a Barrier and Ninian dancing for Hector who continues. A Purge Bishop fires at Lucius (what the fuck?) and hits him. Turn 2: Army continues to advance. Priscilla heals Sain with Ninian's help. Serra heals Lucius and we wait for the eastern wyvern knights. Heath flies north with a javelin to double counter a javelin knight. Purge is fired at Rebecca on a forest and misses. Turn 3: Sain kills the general and Priscilla barriers Ninian who helps her over to Hector whom she also barriers, hitting 20. Serra sets up so a wyvern rider can attack her and die to lightning. Sain hits 20 by smacking a knight on the counter. Turn 4: Heath flies north with a javelin equipped. Priscilla uses a Guiding Ring to promote and Sain uses his Knight's Crest to promote. Lucius weakens a wyvern rider for Rebecca to kill, and Serra kills another wyvern rider. She is shot at by a longbow archer but he misses. The next set of turns has Heath countering wyvern rider while Rebecca with a barrier takes down a Thunder mage, winning his tome. Sain runs to the forest to attack wyvern riders and Kent continues to work on the knights. On turn 5 or 6 I make sure to steal a lockpick from the thief with Legault, because you don't want to have to deal with a Hero and Bishop able to run by and troll you. Also Fiora during turn 6 was knocked to 1 HP by the bishop, ow. On turn 9, since all I've killed for promoted enemies is the general, Harken shows up and Eliwood recruits him. He rushes right as fast as he can while Hector draws out the Silver Bow Sniper. Rebecca has hit C rank in bows and assaults brigands (why are there brigands here) and myrmidons with her killer bow. When all of the melee units by Rebecca are dead she is equipped with an iron bow so she won't get shot too much by the archers. Kent eventually heads west and kills the longbow archer (who shot at Merlinus a previous turn) with a javelin. Legault goes to work on the three chests for a Guiding Ring, a Blue Gem, and a Talisman, getting pelted by Purge each turn and healed by Priscilla as appropriate. Turn 14: Fiora has been carrying Hector and drops him off 5 spaces from the throne. Priscilla has a longsword and donates it to Harken who strikes Kenneth twice, as he's carrying 1 use of Purge still. Heath flies in and strikes him down with a javelin, hitting level 20 and winning Aura, Ninian dances for Hector, and after Kent and Sain get their C support and Rebecca/Serra shoot down some archers, Hector seizes the throne. Overall I am pleased with how this chapter went, though 2 heroes, a bishop, and a sniper still remained for promoted enemies. They just take far too long to get to to be worth the trouble, though the bishop could have been taken down. We still beat the EXP requirement due to Rebecca. On Chapter 28's preparation screen, I promote Heath into a wyvern knight and realize I've been accidentally calling wyverns by their promoted class a lot in these writeups. Oh and by the way, Eliwood is level 17 and has only 1 less Strength (14 for Eliwood) than level 20 Hector (15 Strength). In fact, my Eliwood beats Hector in every single other stat except HP and Defense. Levels: Sain gained 2 levels, Eliwood gained a level, Heath gained 3 levels, Priscilla gained 4 levels (level 3 after her promotion now), Rebecca gained 3 levels, Fiora gained 2 levels, Ninian gained a level, Kent gained a level, and Legault gained a level. Difficulty: 6/10 - Pale Flower of Darkness isn't a particularly difficult chapter, but it is kind of long. The wyvern knights are much easier to handle using Heath, which has given him the chance to promote at last. With 4 promoted units, the next chapter just might be possible! The difficulty of Kenneth depends entirely on how fast you manage to make it to him. He has a Silver Bow Sniper and a Silver Sword Swordmaster guarding him, but he uses Purge which makes him similar to Teodor (aka really fucking easy). However, if he runs out of Purge you are in for a world of hurt, because Kenneth's power with Aura is amazingly high. Hector is also surprisingly safe if he walks to the throne as long as the promoted units by Kenneth are dead, as the longbow archers are absolute wusses who can't damage him. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major |
Well, I believe that both of us had a ton of promoted and decently levelled characters by BBD, because neither of us cared about EXP rank. I'm getting the impression that most of the combat side of Epyon's team is like... around 20/1, and even then fielding any promoted units will hurt EXP rank, which may or may not be affordable. I mean, BBD is one thing when you cruise in with a team that's basically sitting at 20/10 all around, but I suspect it's very different if you go in with unpromoted units or 20/1 units. | Level: 43 Editor |
It shouldn't matter too much, BBD's enemies are garbage even by FE7's standards. I imagine the biggest problem will be That Paladin, because god that guy is ****ing obnoxious to kill even with promoted units. (FYI, most of my team wasn't even 20/10 after Sands of Time, much less for BBD.)
--- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 37 Advanced |
Chapter 28: Battle Before Dawn Turn Limit: 15 Minimum Experience: 1,800 Funds: 71,500 "It's always darkest before the dawn." Deployment: Hector, Heath, Sain, Kent, Fiora, Legault, Priscilla, Serra, Isadora, Harken. Sain gets the Emblem Seal. Turn 1: The entire army rushes east. I position Merlinus so that he's a juicy target for Silver Sword Hero and kill 2 fighters. The hero swings at Merlinus and misses and Heath kills a mage on the counter. Jaffar kills a fighter. Turn 2: Priscilla uses Unlock on the eastern door. Heath rushes through with a short spear equipped while Sain goes to his right with an iron axe to kill the fighter. Harken uses Brave Sword on the Hero, Serra uses Shine on him, and then Fiora finishes him off. The rest of the army advance. Jaffar kills stuff and doesn't get hit and Nino continues her incredibly silly battle with the monk. Turn 3: The back units mop up the ones in front, giving Heath a barrier and healing Sain. Sain and Heath advance max south though Heath has to lag behind a bit to help kill a bishop. Jaffar kills yet more stuff. Turn 4: Sain runs southwest and is stopped by...that monk that Nino is dueling. Heath makes it to bolting range at last. The army advances but stays out of bolting range. Fiora rescues Legault. Jaffar I think on this turn gets severely injured and runs in front of the treasure room to drink an elixir. Ursula, the Blue Crow of the Black Fang, fires a bolting and hits Heath. Turn 5: Sain runs by the idiot monk close to the throne room and equips his iron lance. Heath is healed by a Gordon Freeman Staff, moves 3 spaces north of where Ursula is and equips an iron lance. The army has made it close to Nino by this point and Isadora interrupts the dueling monk with an iron sword to the head. Jaffar sits in front of the treasure room and scares off the thieves. Ursula misses Heath with bolting. Zephiel fends off a fighter. Turn 6: Heath kills a mercenary he weakened to clear a path to Ursula. Merlinus parks 10 squares from Ursula to draw bolting attacks. The army continues southwest and I think Legault was dropped off this turn. Merlinus awaits more bolting and Heath doubles up on Ursula, who will refuse to double back with Elfire because of the barrier still on Heath. Sain rushes towards the throne room, reaching the front of it and killing some inept losers who wanted to attack Zephiel. She fires another bolt of lightning at the wagon and hits it non-lethally. Jaffar by this point is still chilling by the treasure rooms making the thieves go NOPE.AVI. Zephiel kills the stupid fighter. A sniper fires on Sain. Turn 7: Heath takes down Ursula and Hector recruits Nino. Sain, not wanting Zephiel to die to a sniper of all the silly things, kills it with a javelin, making it pretty much safe for Zephiel now. Harken runs over to join him and kills something with his hand axe. Sain was given a barrier during one of the previous turns that I forgot to mention btw. Harken and Sain kill a bunch of stuff with their ranged weapons, and an enemy hero shows up. Jaffar is wounded again and drinks an elixir, but by this point the thieves have all fucked off. Turn 8: Harken and Sain go to work on the enemies while Serra and Priscilla heal them. Kent goes near Sain for support bonuses as well. With the thieves gone there's no real rush, and Legault pilfers a Rescue staff. Turn 9: Legault pilfers a Delphi Shield. Fiora waits near him to rescue him. Isadora rescues Nino and shuttles her west. Harken uses brave sword to take down a general. The unbelievable happens during an enemy phase. Harken is hit by about 5 40% chance spells in a row and only manages to dodge the lethal thunder coming at him from a mage. What the fuck. Turn 10: Legault begins to be ferried over and we begin mopping up the final enemies. Turn 11: Enemies continue to be mopped up by Sain and Harken. Turn 12: Enemies mopped up. Legault and Nino are finally dropped off. Sain goes northwest to engage in an epic battle with Maxime, but first kills a swordreaver fighter. Turn 13: Sain parks on a pillar with an iron axe. Nino talks to Jaffar and is then pulled away by a pegasus knight while the Angel of Death is thrown onto a pale steed by Isadora. Legault opens the treasure room door. Maxime rides down to confront Sain and gets smacked. Turn 14: Legault pilfers a Brave Lance. Sain smacks Maxime. Priscilla and Serra use their staves on stuff for experience and every party member makes sure to stay the hell away from the dueling paladins. Maxime dies to Sain's axe. Turn 15: Legault nabs Boots. Serra and Priscilla gain more exp, the Earth Seal Druid stares at us with rage and we end the chapter! We accept the new sidequest. Levels: Priscilla gained a level, Heath gained 2 levels, Sain gained 3 levels, Fiora gained a level, Harken gained a level, and Serra gained 2 levels. Getting the minimum exp for a chapter like this is tough since you have to rush so much. Difficulty: 4/10 - Battle Before Dawn is a seriously epic chapter, but it gets such a low rating because the way you handle it normally is basically the exact same as an HHM S-rank run regardless, but this time with underleveled units. You rush to Zephiel before that mercenary on round 7 comes by and hope Jaffar is awesome. My strategy basically banked on taking the east side as quick as possible, but this also means that Jaffar has to kill or scare off the thieves. If Jaffar is totally uninjured by about turn 5 (not likely) then the thieves will get away with the stuff. You can't go through the middle route easily - Maxime lies in wait and he takes 2 rounds at least to fucking die. There's also an Earth Seal that I didn't manage to get, but after going through all this I really don't want my shit wrecked by Luna. Speaking of Maxime, let's discuss the bosses here. So long as she has no reason to use Elfire (aka if she has a Bolting target and can't kill Heath in one round), Ursula is an incredibly simple boss to deal with. She has some mercenaries with her that get impaled easily enough. Maxime on the other hand is a fucking nightmare. Sain is my only unit who can deal with him at all. He has 22 resistance for some fucking reason so none of your spells will work, you just need to straight up brawl against his 11 defense and 60-62 hp. He is the main reason you can't just have people swing by the left side right away in a chapter like this, because only Sain can deal with him and Sain's job is to get to Zephiel to protect him from his own stupidity. | Level: 43 Editor | Kirby's Epic Yarn is now 100% complete. Overall, awesome game, terrible minigames. I'm actually not sure where I fall in the whole KEY vs. DKCR argument, if such an argument exists. I think KEY was more consistent, but when DKCR was good, it was really, really good. Anyway, according to my backloggery, I'm coming up on 100 games completed. I might have something special planned for when I hit 100. I dunno. We'll see how this all plays out. --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. It might do something unfortunate to you." ~from the first Summoner's Seal topic |

| Level: 37 Advanced |
Well, let's go over my team so far. Hector Level: 20 EXP: -- HP: 38 STR: 15 SKL: 12 SPD: 10 Luck: 6 DEF: 16 RES: 4 Weapon Rank(s): Axes - A Support(s): Eliwood - C Comments: Gosh, I sure love being strictly worse than XP's Hector in everything except hit points. Hector's usefulness is quite diminished as of late due to not being able to promote yet. Priscilla Level: 20/4 EXP: 58 HP: 27 MAG: 13 SKL: 15 SPD: 17 Luck: 22 DEF: 5 RES: 17 Weapon Rank(s): Anima - E, Staff - S Support(s): None Comments: Priscilla's got a ridiculously low amount of magic attack power, but she's fast and mobile so she makes the cut. Heath Level: 20/3 EXP: 83 HP: 49 STR: 19 SKL: 20 SPD: 16 Luck: 11 DEF: 16 RES: 6 Weapon Rank(s): Sword - E, Lance - S Support(s): None Comments: Look at this magnificent creature. Heath is an absolute deity when he's given a use of Barrier staff. Total MVP material so far. Fiora Level: 18 EXP: 55 HP: 28 STR: 12 SKL: 17 SPD: 20 Luck: 12 DEF: 10 RES: 16 Weapon Rank(s): Lance - A Support(s): None Comments: Basically a worse version of Heath, but one who, with a Barrier staff, is just plain not getting hurt by anything. She'll be promoting this next chapter so she'll be much better soon. Serra Level: 20/5 EXP: 43 HP: 30 MAG: 15 SKL: 14 SPD: 16 Luck: 26 DEF: 5 RES: 21 Weapon Rank(s): Light - C, Staff - S Support(s): None Comments: So I heard you don't like getting criticaled by Luna, so we put Serra into the game so you never need to worry about that. The highest level member of my team (naturally highest leveled that is) is quite a decent one, to say the least, and with her magical power being just a bit higher than Priscilla's she can use Physic staves to much greater effect. I am so envious of XP's Serra having so much magic, but mine could potentially catch up and surpass his. Eliwood Level: 17 EXP: 35 HP: 31 STR: 14 SKL: 12 SPD: 15 Luck: 14 DEF: 9 RES: 7 Weapon Rank(s): Sword - A Support(s): Hector - C Comments: I wish he'd gain some more defense, but Eliwood is a fast and fairly strong unit for his level. Very solid and will probably outdo Hector in a lot of areas. Raven Level: 17 EXP: 30 HP: 39 STR: 19 SKL: 15 SPD: 19 Luck: 7 DEF: 6 RES: 2 Weapon Rank(s): Sword - A Support(s): None Comments: Beastly glass cannon of the team. If Raven hits something, it's going to die. Just be sure to Mend him up afterwards. Kent Level 17 EXP: 76 HP: 34 STR: 12 SKL: 17 SPD: 11 Luck: 4 DEF: 12 RES: 6 Weapon Rank(s): Lance - B, Sword - C Support(s): Sain - C Comments: Kent is such a terrible unit right now. Look at those fucking stats. He can hit enemies a lot for absolutely nothing. He's almost solely on the team just to support Sain. Sain Level 20/4 EXP: 36 HP: 37 STR: 23 SKL: 10 SPD: 20 Luck: 13 DEF: 11 RES: 8 Weapon Rank(s): Lance - S, Sword - B, Axe - D Support(s): Kent - C Comments: Much better. Sain's stats are quite beastly, though he suffers a bit from glass cannon syndrome like Raven does. His skill could also use some work but I don't find he misses enough to be totally screwed over. Harken Level ---/9 EXP: 56 HP: 43 STR: 23 SKL: 21 SPD: 19 Luck: 12 DEF: 17 RES: 11 Weapon Rank(s): Sword - B, Axe - B Support(s): None Comments: Move over, Sain. Harken is definitely our absolute best unit, and only Heath has the potential to stand up to the beast that is Harken. In fact, Heath only beats Harken at all when it comes to hit points! Harken is so good that he's too good for us at the moment, and won't be seeing Night of Farewells in favour of me training my lesser units. Ninian Level 14 EXP: 70 HP: 26 STR: 0 SKL: 1 SPD: 22 Luck: 17 DEF: 10 RES: 14 Weapon Rank(s): None Support(s): None Comments: Not much to say about Ninian. She can tank for weaker units when I need her to, and her Nini's Grace is especially helpful for them. Filla's Might is an awesome dance for someone like Nino for this upcoming chapter. Potential team members: Lucius Level 13 EXP: 49 HP: 24 MAG: 13 SKL: 7 SPD: 18 Luck: 8 DEF: 2 RES: 11 Weapon Rank(s): Light - B Support(s): None Comments: Um, yeah. I'm going to try to get Lucius to level 20 or so by the end of the upcoming chapter, because seriously. Look at how pathetic he is right now. Florina Level 18 EXP: 81 HP: 24 STR: 14 SKL: 13 SPD: 20 Luck: 17 DEF: 6 RES: 10 Weapon Rank(s): Lance - A Support(s): Lyn - C Comments: The glass cannon version of Fiora. Fiora's sadly turned out better in every area except strength and luck, so Fiora is definitely getting priority for promotion here. | Level: 37 Advanced |
Chapter 28x: Night of Farewells Turn Limit: 28 Minimum Experience: 2,250 Funds: 94,000 "Nothing is evil which is according to nature." Deployment: Hector, Heath, Lucius, Raven, Serra, Priscilla, Nino, Ninian, Legault, Fiora, Eliwood, Raven. Heath gets the emblem seal and Fiora gets Delphi Shield. Turn 1: Heath and Fiora are given barriers and fly east, Heath weakening the sniper and Fiora killing it. The rest of the army moves north though Raven and Lucius stay behind, with Ninian advancing Hector further. A bunch of pegasus knights and a falcoknight all attack Priscilla and miss. Turn 2: Priscilla kills a pegasus knight, Raven weakens the falco knight, Lucius kills it, Serra kills a pegasus knight, Legault kills another pegasus knight, and Ninian dances for Lucius so he can kill the last pegasus knight. Hector goes north and hits the swordreaver pirate, and then Nino finishes him with Elfire. Fiora kills an archer with a steel lance. Eliwood and Jaffar advance north. Heath flies max east and attacks a mercenary with his iron sword so he can be reliably hit back for 0 damage and given our key to winning this battle - the poison status condition. A cavalier hits Hector, and a wyvern and some mercenaries are attacked by Heath. The myriad of status staves are now completely useless against Heath, who already has a status ailment. Turn 3: Heath flies 2 spaces north of a nearby general and readies his Brave Lance. Hector weakens the cavalier more for Nino to kill. Fiora kills the next archer. Lucius and Raven go north a bit to avoid the wyvern riders along with Nino/Serra. Jaffar rushes out to take down the Paladin. Eliwood goes max east and Legault rejoins the north group and Priscilla rides north to be with them. Eliwood weakens a cavalier on the counter and Heath kills a wyvern lord with a critical and also kills 2 other wyvern riders. Turn 4: Nino kills some random enemy, Lucius kills a wyvern and Ninian dances for him so he can kill another. Heath flies east to be just in the range of the poison axe pirate, equipping his iron lance. Eliwood takes down a nomad after Hector weakens it and Jaffar kills off another nomad. The path to the Blue Gem Hero is opened at the end of this turn as Heath kills the pirate and a wyvern rider who comes after him. Sonia fires Bolting at Heath but misses. Turn 5: Heath runs down to the Luna/Sleep Druid and Brave Lances him to death. Legault runs east and Jaffar blocks off the passage with the hero. I think Nino takes down a nomad this turn. Heath is attacked by a bunch of dark spells and only hit by one (and also kills another wyvern rider), while Jaffar kills off the straggling mercenaries that were left from when Heath went there. Berserk/Sleep miss. Turn 6: Legault steals a Blue Gem. Jaffar takes out the hero and Nino kills a cavalier I think. Heath flies northeast to be in Bolting range but out of ballista range, drinking an elixir. Heath kills another wyvern rider on the counter and Sonia misses with Bolting. Turn 7: Legault steals an Angelic Robe from the Berserk Bishop. Lucius continues to kill wyvern riders and Fiora has joined the north group by this point, killing the Sleep Bishop. Heath is fired at with Bolting. Turn 8: Heath drinks his 2nd and last elixir. Jaffar kills the Berserk bishop and Fiora promotes into a Falcoknight. Sonia fires Bolting at Jaffar and hits him for a lot, and I think Jaffar still manages to kill a wyvern rider coming from the south regardless. He is at 3 HP and poisoned this enemy phase, but luckily on my turn the poison wears off. Turn 9: Lucius is basically done with the wyverns on this turn. Heath flies north at last and hits Sonia 4 times with his Brave Lance, reducing her to 8 HP. Sonia is an idiot and fires Bolting at Jaffar again. The path to Sonia is opened up and Serra/Lucius/Nino/Raven are cut off. Turn 10: Heath kills Sonia with his Brave Lance, winning a Fell Contract. Jaffar goes to the northeast portion to draw out the other Wyvern Lord. From here on out the chapter is pretty easy, with Legault getting the center island's chest which has a Speedwings, and Heath/Hector working on the generals so that Nino can kill them. Legault after he got the center chest btw almost died to 2 nosferatus and an elfire, for fuck's sakes. After a few more turns I drop Legault onto the northeast island and he opens the 3 chests for a Thor's Ire, Recover Staff, and a Fenrir Tome. Hector seizes on Turn 21 after Raven and Lucius get their C support. Levels: Nino gained 6 levels, Priscilla gained 2 levels, Heath gained 4 levels, Fiora gained 3 levels (so level 2 after promoting), Ninian gained 4 levels, Serra gained a level, Lucius gained 3 levels, and Jaffar gained a level. Difficulty: 10/10 - This chapter is a nightmare. Rushing Night of Farewells is annoying enough, but the Wyvern Lords and status staves in this chapter will make your life even more miserable. Sonia herself is an extremely annoying boss to kill - she has 19 defense (sometimes 20) and 25 resistance. Her only real weakness is that her tomes weigh a fuckton and so you'll almost always double her, but she's so tanky she even survived 4 Brave Lances to the face from Heath. Getting the items here is also annoying and Sonia must be given enough time to live - kill her too early and you're forced to shuttle units around the islands with fliers, but wait too late and you'll have many falcoknight reinforcements to deal with and make your life really really miserable. Having Heath get poisoned is a very reliable way to fly around the map without risking status effects, thankfully. | Level: 37 Advanced | I think I can finish Cog of Destiny in about 12 turns. The secret to this chapter is to avoid the bridges. Crossing the northeast bridge makes 4 Valkyrie reinforcements appear. Crossing the north bridge from the start or the one that goes north just to the west of that triggers 4 monks and a bishop. Crossing just the west one only triggers 4 flux shamans and a nosferatu druid right in front of the Shrine of Seals, so that's where we're going. I had a really good run ruined by Lloyd's Luna Druid hitting Sain with a 25% Luna which criticaled off a 5% chance, of course, but this is surprisingly not a hard scenario to reproduce when there's so few reinforcements coming. --- "Because nothing says "level 80 dark elf warlock" like "radical 19th century feminist"!" -Ogordemir99 on World of Wollstonecraft |
