*sigh* No, God did not give us the first dictionary. Stop putting words in my mouth. Obviously language developed over time, and then someone decided to catalogue it, and that was the first dictionary.

My point in all this is that, yes, language can evolve, but in this case, it hasn't yet, and probably shouldn't.

What's this? Dictionaries are catalogues and not the source of meaning?! Impossible!

My point in all this is that, yes, language can evolve, but in this case, it hasn't yet, and probably shouldn't.

So, in your world, a language hasn't evolved until a dictionary is around to catalogue it. That makes little to no sense, but okay. I'll continue using words as they appear, and you can continue waiting for a reputable dictionary to tell you which of those new words are "real".

(Note: the popular (~1.7M hits on Google) word "metrosexual" was coined in 1994 and still hasn't appeared in the archives of dictionary.com. You're in for a long wait.)

Personally I prefer wiki, but then, wiki is less... I suppose official, though much more informative.
