| Level: 43 Editor | What is with me and little kids? In before obvious joke. (Though I am actually curious about how old Riku is. They haven't given much information on him.) Apparently he's 15? I can't verify that, but I just read it on TVTropes. <_< So, in this case, your thing for little kids is only vaguely creepy. http://img.imgcake.com/awesomeface.png --- "There's a pony in the shop, but don't buy it. | Level: 41 New Moderator | UPDATE ON THIS Since I haven't gotten to watch Blood+ recently, what I plan on doing after school ends and I am back home is marathoning Blood+. I will rewatch the first six episodes (and give details on the last three of those, I want to refresh my memory on what exactly happens besides the major plot points, episode six is a tear jerker from what I remember of the ending) and then continue eagerly. I really want to watch more. In physical form, I'm hoping to gain some time downstairs so I can get around to Neon Genesis Evangelion. That would make for funny write ups. --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

| Level: 41 New Moderator | What the heck is Kiss X Sis and is it yuri? In any case, I have an obligation to fulfill. Neon Genesis Evangelion time! My goal is to watch one DVD a day because I don't want any family members spying in on it. If I get unlucky and they're there all day tomorrow, I may have to skip a day, but I'm hoping they have errands. I've managed to watch episodes one through four. I'll get to five later tonight, Dad took over the TV for football purposes. >_> Note that I watched episodes one through five a loooong time ago, so none of it will be surprising to me. The rest is all new though. [Spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Episode 1, click to show]Episode 1: Angel Attack/An Angel's Attack Am I the only one who laughed at seeing an entire highway covered with tanks pointing towards the ocean? In any case, we can tell pretty quickly that this is a war zone in 2015, so only 5 years before we're screwed apparently. The main character, Shinji Ikari, is trying to make a phone call and failing miserably. Then the enemy, an Angel, shows up and he freaks out for the first of many times. Not that I blame him in the slightest, I'd be freaked out too if a monster that Bleach ripped off showed up in front of me. (Seriously, look at its masks.) Some board of directors or important people or whatever orders an all out attack. A guy with glasses, who is eventually introduced as Gendo Ikari, Shinji's father, watches the whole thing in creepy fashion. His glasses reflect all sorts of things. I want glasses that do that! Just in time to avoid being crushed, Shinji's pick up person, Misato Katsuragi, shows up to get him into her car and then hit the reverse. They go flying out of town. Misato is apparently responsible for bringing Shinji to his father, who wants something from him. Gendo works at Nerv (or is it NERV, and if so, what does it stand for?). Shinji apparently has issues with his father that involve him standing on a sidewalk and crying. Foreshadowing is fun. Anyhow, upon arriving, they meet up with Ritsuko Akagi, whose name I would not have remembered if not for Epyon. They take Shinji to see a giant robot. Gendo shows up and tells Shinji he's the pilot. I guess giant robots can do more damage than N2 mines because that failure was what caused Gendo to be put in charge. In a refreshing change of pace, Shinji does NOT want to pilot, rightfully thinking 'how the heck am I supposed to do this'. It's okay though, they have someone else to do it! Apparently Rei Ayanami will be doing the job of using Unit 01, despite the fact she has to be wheeled in on a stretcher and has bandages all over her body. Shinji, seeing her condition, rethinks refusing the job. Metal beams nearly crush him to bring an end to the anime 25 episodes ahead of time, but the Eva unit is kind enough to move its hand over Shinji to protect him. Deciding that he must not run away (I get the feeling I'll be hearing this a LOT), Shinji gets in to pilot. He goes outside to fight the Angel. Now this scene was... amusing. "Concentrate on walking!" *One step forward* "Whoa he can do it!" *Another step, crashes* "...Oh." *Is picked up by Angel* "SHINJI FIGHT IT FIGHT IT" "...BUT I CAN BARELY WALK" The Angel proceeds to tear off the Eva's arm, which looks pretty gruesome from Shinji's point of view. Then he gets thrown into a building and a light beam goes through the head. END OF EPISODE! Is this going to be a Goosebumps cliffhanger? I'll have to watch to find out! Oh, the intro is good, the ending is pretty but boring. I do like how the female bodies are drawn in this, their legs DON'T look like sticks. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. | Level: 41 New Moderator | [Spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Episode 2, click to show]Episode 2: The Beast/An Unfamiliar Ceiling Our cliffhanger ends by showing Shinji... wake up in a hospital. Yeah, I'm giving this an R.L. Stine seal of approval. Apparently Shinji has some memory loss, so he can't remember how the battle went. He does see people wheel Rei by. He seems to pay a lot of attention to her, but that would make sense considering he saw a random vision of her before Misato showed up. (I assume it won't seem as random later.) Also nobody stayed to watch over him, which is kind of sad. >_> It looks like Unit 01 got utterly trashed, but the Angel is nowhere in sight. Misato volunteers to let Shinji live with her since Gendo and Shinji living together is apparently a big no-no. They go into her apartment, which would kill Monk on sight, and proceed to hang out, or as Misato calls it, party. Shinji goes to take a bath and sees a penguin, Pen Pen, walk into a refrigerator. I don't even know what the heck. Later that night, Shinji recalls how the fight went. After getting nailed in the face, Unit 01 went into berserk mode and proceeded to kick the tar out of the Angel. It tried to use an AT Field to repel Unit 01 (what does AT stand for? The opening shows it briefly I think, it looked like it said 'Absolute Terror' which is strange). Unit 01 responds by regenerating its arm (whoa there) and ripping it apart. It then smashes open the red jewel/core thing the Angel has to apparently kill it. End of episode, I believe nothing else of significance happened. Shinji is left doubting whether he should be fighting or not despite Misato's efforts to convince him he did good things. Next episode, he... goes to school? Wait what. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

| Level: 41 New Moderator | [Spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Episode 3, click to show]Episode 3: A Transfer/The Silent Phone Despite the fact that Shinji is a pilot who is constantly training for the next Angel attack, apparently he needs to go to school. There is so much wrong with this that I can't even begin to explain. Rei also goes and seems to identify the term 'learning' as 'look out a window and never react to anything'. We're introduced to two male classmates. One is a guy with a camera and glasses, thus making him a nerd, who is named Kensuke Aida. The other, a tough looking guy, is Toji Suzuhara. Apparently his sister got crushed under some rubble from the previous Angel fight so he hates the pilot of the Eva unit. Cue Shinji getting an email asking if he's the pilot and saying yes. "Oops." There's also a female classmate that I believe is the person Epyon called Hikari Horaki. I totally missed anything significant she did. After school, Toji proceeds to punch Shinji. Shinji says he didn't want to be a pilot in the first place, so Toji punches him again. The two boys then leave Shinji lying on the ground until Rei shows up to tell him he is wanted for a pilot mission. She runs off without any regard to the fact that he's lying on the ground after being punched. *Claps* Apparently another Angel has shown up, and being retards, Kensuke and Toji go out so Kensuke can record it. Shinji is in a mental mindset of following the training module he has been doing and shoots the Angel. This simple plan manages to fail, causing the Angel, which looks like a mutated squid with pink energy tentacles, to grab Unit 01 and throw it around like a rag doll. Along the way, the cable connecting to the Unit 01 is severed, meaning Shinji only has five minutes of minimum activity before his battery runs out. Time limits! Unit 01 eventually gets thrown into a hill right enxt to the classmates, which Misato instructs to get into Shinji's pod. They do so, and Misato orders Shinji to retreat. Cue him repeating multiple times "I mustn't run away" before he pulls out a knife and begins screaming wildly as he stabs the Angel in its core. This scene was pretty cool to watch actually, I was like 'holy cow he snapped'. Just as his internal battery runs out, the Angel's core crumbles. After this, we see Kensuke and Toji talking in class about how Shinji hasn't been there in three days. Kensuke gives Toji Shinji's phone number, but we aren't actually shown him dialing the full number. My guess, based on the title, is that he didn't have the guts to do it. I really hope there aren't many more school episodes, it seems so out of place. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

| Level: 41 New Moderator | [Spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Episode 4, click to show]Episode 4: Hedgehog's Dilemma/Running Away, And Then Rain After five days of Shinji not going to school, Misato decides to check up on him in his room. He is gone. Wow what a lousy guardian. >_> Turns out Shinji has been overly stressed, especially after going nuts in the previous episode, so he has run away. Kensuke and Toji show up to talk to him, but find only Misato, who they think is hot. I'm glad this episode has had so many important scenes already. Shinji takes a train all the way to... a really far away area, thinks to himself that he has to go back, and starts walking back. I'd probably see why if I ever piloted a giant robot and had trauma like his, but until I do, I'm just going to chalk this up as a waste of time. Eventually we see an actually amusing scene where Kensuke alternates between being a dying captain and a worried soldier. I don't know why I found it funny, but I did, so there you go. Shinji meets up with him, they talk about not having mothers, they eat, they sleep. Then Nerv soldiers show up in the morning to bring Shinji back, who goes without a fuss. At some point around here, we get a flashback from Misato where she chewed out Shinji for ignoring her order to retreat. He just keeps saying 'yes' to all her questions, so she gets pretty annoyed and stomps off. Now that Shinji is back, she talks to him and says that if he doesn't want to pilot Unit 01, he shouldn't stay. Shortly after, he resigns. When Shinji is brought to the train station, he is met by Kensuke and Toji. Toji apologizes for what he did before and asks Shinji to hit him back. He does, with surprising power, I didn't think he'd do that much damage. As Shinji leaves, he calls back to say that he was the one who deserved being punched for being cowardly and weak. A character who knows his flaws! (Apparently.) As the train pulls up to take Shinji away, Misato drives up in a crazy fashion and looks for him. But she was too late, Shinji is gone. Except no, he never got on the train, look over there. I swear they spend like an entire minute staring at each other before the episode ends, holy cheese. Next episode will cover more on Rei, which is nice because just about nothing has been said about her so far. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... | Level: 41 New Moderator | [Spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Episode 5, click to show]Episode 5: Rei I/Rei, Beyond the Heart The episode opens by showing what happened when Unit 00's start-up experiment failed. Unit 00 started punching the wall wildly and continued to until its battery power was nearly gone. Rei's pod ejected, and to save her, Gendo ran in and opened the heated pod handle with his uncovered hands. I've gotta be honest, I never would have expected that of him from what he's done so far. Also his glasses fell off and cracked. DRAMATIC! Apparently the fourth Angel (even though it showed up second, they call it number four) was recovered mostly intact. While it is being examined by multiple people, Shinji notices Gendo has burned hands. He asks Ritsuko how that happened and she tells him about Gendo saving Rei. Shinji's expression is rather doubtful, to say the least. He also sees Rei and Gendo talking and is amazed that the two are smiling. Then we get a scene where Shinji and the two male classmates talk about Rei's body or something, I don't know it's stupid let's go on. Oh great now we get Misato cooking jokes. Even the penguin can't eat her food. I'm all for comedy but for some reason these scenes just don't amuse me that much. I honestly laughed more at the tanks on the highway than anything else yet. Anyway, that silly series of events is finally dropped as Ritsuko gives Shinji a new ID card for Rei. Shinji agrees to deliver it to her, which leads to more jokes about him liking her. Sorry guys, I just don't see Shinji/Rei being a pairing after what happens later this episode. <_< Shinji stops by her home and rings the bell with no response. He decides this is a fine excuse to step inside since the door is unlocked. He finds her room, which has several bloody bandages in the trash. I'll admit, that's fairly creepy, even though it makes perfect sense. Shinji sees Gendo's glasses on her dresser, the cracked ones that is. He wonders if they're Rei's and decides to put them on. Excuse me for asking this but WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? If you got into someone's house and saw glasses on their dresser, would your first instinct be to put them on? Seriously now? (At least I think I can see why he didn't recognize them as Gendo's; Gendo's current glasses look much more round and don't have very noticeable outlines, from what I can tell.) Of course more shenanigans must happen because Rei shows up with just a towel on after taking a shower. She marches up to Shinji, not caring about her lack of clothing, and plucks the glasses off his face. Cue Shinji falling onto her naked body with his bag pulling open a dresser drawer full of bras and underwear. Congratulations Shinji, you are officially the biggest loser ever now. I do like how Rei doesn't react to this at all and simply asks him to move so she can get up. Shinji tries to explain how he came over with her ID card, but she walks off without showing any care to him, instead storing the glasses in a safe location. When they arrive at the NERV facility, Rei's card fails to let her in, so Shinji swipes her new one and offers it to her. She snaps it up and we are treated to a minute long escalator scene! Shinji tries to make conversation, but doesn't get a response until asking Rei if she's nervous about trying Unit 00 again. Rei asks if he would not trust one of his father's works. Shinji says there is no way he'd trust his father, prompting Rei to slap him across the face. She has strange priorities, to say the least. Guy coming in uninvited, trying on 'her' glasses, and landing on her naked body? That's cool. Say one bad thing about Gendo? SLAP! Rei tries out Unit 00 with the glasses next to her in the cockpit. I'm kind of curious as to how she got them. Either she grabbed them off the ground while being taken out of the pod, she asked someone to get them, or she asked Gendo to have them, those are my only guesses. In any case, the experiment is successful this time. Now the fifth Angel appears and-oh come ON now. I can accept a mutated squid to some degree, but a DIAMOND? Now you're just being silly. Shinji goes out to fight it in Unit 01. The diamond is apparently smarter than the other two Angels though because it fires into him right as he comes up. A big hole opens in his chest. END OF EPISODE! Everything from this point on is new. I'm interested to see why Rei is so admiring of Gendo, if nothing else. I'd also like to know who the Second Child is. They call Rei the First Child and Shinji the Third Child. So either Asuka (who I know is a pilot and has orange hair and nothing else) is the Second Child, or she gets picked up as the Fourth Child later. Guess I'll have to wait to find out. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... Take it back!"-Id, Xenogears |

| Level: 41 New Moderator | All right, I got to see episodes six through ten. Let's see what happened. [Spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Episode 6, click to show]Episode 6: Rei II/Face-Off in Tokyo-3 Even though they pull Unit 01 back after taking a hit from the Angel, Shinji is in a really bad state. They wheel him away while trying to devise a plan. Apparently this Angel is like a fortress, blocking any shots with a powerful AT field and using LAZERZ to rip apart anyone close to it. Soon they come up with an idea: use a really powerful rifle that is powered by ALL OF TOKYO'S ELECTRICITY (I think it's just Tokyo, if it's all of Japan insert an =O emoticon from me) to shoot down the diamond. Shinji will do the firing due to his synchronize rate being higher while Rei will use a shield made from an airplane body to block return fire. It's a plan even I can understand! Shinji wakes up in another hospital. I am getting incredibly tired of hearing cicadas in these scenes but here we are. Rei comes in to give him food and a new suit, which makes him realize that only a sheet is protecting him from Rei's eyes. Not like he should care, I mean if Rei isn't going to react to him seeing HER naked, why would she be interested in his body? Shinji says he doesn't want to pilot again, which is pretty understandable considering how much damage he took. Rei says she will pilot Unit 01 if he doesn't and then tells him to meet them at the cage. So either she has confidence he will come or totally forgot what she just said about him not having to pilot. Yep. With the mission time coming up (ten hours have passed since the diamond wonder showed up), they have to act now or die horribly. The Angel has been using a drill to try and hit NERV's headquarters. Good thing they had twenty-two metal layers protecting them! (Why twenty-two? What kind of a number is that for protection?) Shinji talks to Rei a bit before they go off, with Rei saying she has a bond to 'all the people', which is why she pilots, and that she has no other reason. Huh. Mission start! Shinji gets ready to fire, but at the exact moment he does, the Angel fires too. The shots twine around each other and miss instead of exploding against each other. That really doesn't make sense to me but it creates drama so I can't whine too much. Rei gets in front of Shinji to block the next incoming hit while the rifle powers up. Just before Unit 00 gets melted, he fires again and hits the Angel. It crashes into the ground and makes a nice new sculpture for Tokyo. Maybe they can make its body into a building someday! Shinji goes to check up on Rei, who seems fine all things considered. He cries in relief (he got attached to her pretty quickly, not that I can blame his relief considering she just saved him) and Rei responds by not knowing HOW to react. He tells her to smile, she sees Gendo in him for a moment, and then smiles. Good gosh that actually creeped me out more than seeing her being emotionless! So that's some information on Rei, not that it's enough to really get a reading on her character. Episodes seven through ten won't expand on her at all so I'll have to keep waiting. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating... | Level: 41 New Moderator | [Spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Episode 7, click to show]Episode 7: A Human Work/A Human Creation What did I just watch. Okay. First of all, Shinji eats toast three mornings in a row. That cannot be healthy. Also the penguin eats fish each time and stock footage is used for all this but good grief. On the first morning, Misato comes out and gives such a big yawn that I had to turn my eyes away from the TV, seriously did that have to be shown? Shinji goes to school and since it's parent teacher day, Misato comes in a get up that causes all the guys to stare at her. Just keep piling on that plot important stuff, guys, it's really keeping me on the edge of my seat. The next day, Misato gets in a formal outfit and goes with Ritsuko to a meeting of some sort. Apparently a company has made an Eva rip-off called JA, for Jet Alone. Ritsuko questions the speaker on it, and he says it is better than Evas due to not using children to pilot it and having NUCLEAR POWER. Misato gets annoyed at his arrogant attitude and crushes a locker door with her high-heel. Hm, maybe I should wear those sometime. *Remembers how amazingly uncomfortable they are* Nope, not worth it. So they decide to activate Jet Alone, which manages to walk. Everyone seeing this is astonished, which leads me to question why. If it couldn't walk then I'd be very concerned as to what they are doing putting on a big presentation. The problem is that it continues to walk, and crushes the building as it does. Apparently it is out of control and will blow up soon. See, this is why we need highly unstable kids to pilot our giant mechs, then garbage like this wouldn't happen! After dancing around legal issues for a while, Misato manages to get the password to shut it down (HOPE) and calls in Unit 01 with Shinji piloting. Shinji puts Misato (who is wearing a big suit to protect against the heat) on the JA. He then holds it in place as she goes inside. She tries to input HOPE, it fails. She starts to shove a canister, and one second before the whole thing would explode, it shuts down. Then we see Gendo and Ritsuko talking about how it went perfectly except for the unexpected actions of Misato. I think I totally missed the point as to what they were doing here. Did they sabotage it to get competitors out of the way, or what? *Scratches head* Next morning, Misato is back to being a slouch, Shinji is annoyed, his two classmates say about the only smart thing they ever will by telling him that since Misato shows that side of herself to Shinji, it means she considers him family. Aw. Overall, this was a rather dull and unimportant episode. It was cool to see Misato risk herself like that without hesitation, but other than that, it seemed pointless. They did discuss the Second Impact and explain to Shinji that Angels caused it instead of a meteor, but who wouldn't have guessed that by now? According to xp and Kenri, that's the last of the potentially low-class episodes, and I agree so far with eight, nine, and ten. So that's a good sign. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. | Level: 41 New Moderator | [Spoiler for Neon Genesis Evangelion: Episode 8, click to show]Episode 8: Asuka Strikes!/Asuka's Arrival in Japan It looks like we're finally going to see who the Second Child is, with her being Unit 02's pilot. They are being taken by ship to Japan from Germany. Misato goes to meet her on the ship with Shinji. Kensuke and Toji come along because we need SOME sort of comic relief, according to anime law. Toji has a white cap on that is new to impress Misato. I cannot stress how lame this guy is. He makes Shinji look like he's actually competent with girls! When they land on the ship, Toji's cap gets blown off and stomped on by an orange-haired girl wearing a yellow dress and red high-heels. Here is Asuka Langley Soryu in all her glory. Toji tries to get his cap back, winds up seeing up her dress as the wind blows, and gets a hard slap for his troubles. My first reaction was "Oh goody it's one of THESE characters", but then I realized it's Toji and he totally deserves it so she gets a thumbs up in my book for it. The line "That's price for viewing" or however she said it is also amusing. Misato goes to the captain to get permission for using Unit 02 if an emergency occurs, but because he's old and therefore set in his ways like any old coot, he says the navy will take care of any threats. While Misato steams over this, Asuka's escort shows up. Kaji... ...did they ever say his full name? *Hops on Wikipedia, copies, hops back, pastes* Ryōji Kaji is awesome looking, I love guys with ponytails like his. Misato is not the slightest bit happy to see him, which obviously means they were dating at some point. This is especially evident when they go to have coffee and he asks Shinji if Misato still tosses and turns in her sleep, causing her to freak. I like this guy already. Asuka thinks Shinji is a boring guy, but keeps an interested watch on him after Kaji tells her he got a 40% synchronize rate with his Eva without training. Then an Angel in the water attacks. Oh no! Asuka throws Shinji a plug suit, gets in her own, and jumps into Unit 02 while dragging him along. Now here's my question. In episode three, it was shown that Kensuke and Toji threw off Unit 01's synchronizing rates with Shinji. I thought Shinji would throw Unit 02 off since he had never been in it before, but other than having to change the language from German to Japanese, they seemed to adapt pretty well. Is that a plot point or did episode three's exposition just get scrapped (I highly doubt that)? Or do Evas not care, so long as you have piloted before? Asuka proceeds to bounce around on the different ships to fight the Angel. The Angel eventually pulls them down and bites Unit 02, putting everything above the waist in its mouth (stop looking at this sentence Kenri). Misato makes a plan: they will have Unit 02 open the mouth and launch two battleships into it to blow up the core. Asuka and Shinji begin to mentally chant 'Open!" together, and they pry the mouth open. Boom, good game Angel. As Ritsuko looks at the data gathered, she realizes that Asuka and Shinji's synch rates were much higher than normal. She doesn't tell them this though. Oh and Kaji took a helicopter to get out of the fight with some important cargo. He brings Gendo the first human, Adam. Holy **** Adam was UGLY. At school, Kensuke and Toji are glad Asuka will never be seen again. Then she appears in their class as a new student. 'pwned'. </spoiler> --- "That was pretty interesting. | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | [Spoiler for Evangelion Episodes 6-8, click to show] Soon they come up with an idea: use a really powerful rifle that is powered by ALL OF TOKYO'S ELECTRICITY (I think it's just Tokyo, if it's all of Japan insert an =O emoticon from me) I thought it was all of Japan but can't really check right now. Rei says she will pilot Unit 01 if he doesn't and then tells him to meet them at the cage. So either she has confidence he will come or totally forgot what she just said about him not having to pilot. Yep. Or Rei meant exactly what she said and she'd pilot Unit 01 and try and solo the angel. Without anyone trying to shield her. Shinji gets ready to fire, but at the exact moment he does, the Angel fires too. The shots twine around each other and miss instead of exploding against each other. That really doesn't make sense to me but it creates drama so I can't whine too much. Actually, unless I'm remembering entirely incorrectly, that is played completely realistically. That is exactly what would happen in such a scenario if it were to actually happen in real life. It's the "common" portrayal where the beams have no effect on each other that makes no sense. Then we see Gendo and Ritsuko talking about how it went perfectly except for the unexpected actions of Misato. I think I totally missed the point as to what they were doing here. Did they sabotage it to get competitors out of the way, or what? *Scratches head* Yes, they did. I don't mind telling you this because it's totally unimportant and I don't believe it is ever mentioned again, this episode is as close to filler as it gets for Evangelion. The Misato comment they make is in regards to the fact that they didn't anticipate Misato going out and risking herself like that to stop the thing. In fact, I'd have to rewatch the scene, but I think the implication was that Misato was actually going to fail, but Gendo/Ritsuko interfered when they realized that. But again, I'd have to see, could be way off. I like this guy already. Kaji is awesome. I think last time I tried to do character rankings, he was 5th. </spoiler> --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? |
