| Level: 43 Editor | WHOO TFN IS BACK For those just tuning in, stuff that the Board Erasure Monster ate: -Beat Mother 1 (Earthbound 0). -Started on Earthbound. Progress made while TFN was away: Earthbound - lol none Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Beat (and 100%'d) Julius mode (was stuck at the final boss) Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin - 1000%'d Sisters mode Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow - Replay, beat it, 100%'d it (map and souls). Then 100%'d it with Julius, too. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Replay, Soma mode, hard difficulty. Death just made me cry blood. Pokemon D/P - Darkrai GET Real life - lol none Gameplan: Beat and 100% DoS, then replay HoD (maybe), then SotN. Finish Earthbound at some point before I forget everything about it. Wait patiently for the Mother 3 fan-translation to finish. Maybe beat Xenogears at some point, since I've owned it for a couple years and haven't ever even played it. And I'll have the PS1 out for SotN anyway. God I missed this site. --- "This topic is just as dumb as you are." ~Ogor "I'm not perverted! I'm just immensely fascinated!" ~Lisa Yadomaru, Bleach |

| Level: 43 Editor | [Spoiler for Castlevania: DoS, click to show]Why isn't the second final boss in Dawn of Sorrow of the Holy element? Because he's Abaddon. lololol Fully leveled Buer kicks his ass. I'd have had a flawless victory, if I hadn't gotten greedy and let him walk into me for Deadly Touch damage. Why are all enemies in platformers made of lava? Kicked Menace's ass, too. Beat his first form without taking damage because it's easy. Abused Erinys and Claimh Solas against the second form. Arikado: Unfortunately, a new dark lord will always emerge. Even if it isn't you, Soma. Soma: But there are like 45 different groups ready to destroy him, right? I mean, the Belmonts, the Belnadeses/Fernandezes/Aulins, the Morrises, the Lecardes, the Hakuba clan, you, me, whatever the hell the Order of Ecclesia is... Plus the random-ass people who always seem to show up. I mean, who the hell was Nathan Graves? If he can defeat Dracula, any idiot can defeat Dracula. </spoiler> --- "This topic is just as dumb as you are." ~Ogor "I'm not perverted! I'm just immensely fascinated!" ~Lisa Yadomaru, Bleach |

| Level: 43 Editor | [Spoiler for Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, click to show]Say what you will about HoD... it just plays a whole lot better than... nearly every other game in the series. Which isn't enough to put it above DoS/PoR/SotN, which are longer and have more content, but it is enough for HoD to kick CotM's ass. Plus, the whole "the castle is actually two castles" plot twist is awesome in a hilariously lame sort of way. The subweapon + magic book combination system is broken. I mean, really broken. Bible + Ice Book = like 700 damage per shot to a lot of bosses. Anyway... I just killed the 10th boss, Maxim's Shadow. Dammit, I forgot about Maxim mode... I want to get to SotN but Maxim mode > Juste mode. Even if Juste is the ass-kicking-est Belmont this side of Julius "I-Kill-Infinitely-Regenerating-Monsters-So-Hard-They-Can't-Regenerate" Belmont. Yes, that's his name. All of it. I also sorta forgot about PoR too. I might end up replaying that. Argh, why are all Metroidvania style games so damn amazing? Except CotM. Fuck CotM. </spoiler> --- "This topic is just as dumb as you are." ~Ogor "I'm not perverted! I'm just immensely fascinated!" ~Lisa Yadomaru, Bleach |

| Level: 43 Editor | [Spoiler for CV: HoD, click to show]Beat HoD. Thunder book + Bible = lol I'm not sure if it's even possible to 200% (not a typo; there are two castles <_<) it. I couldn't figure out how, at least. Meh... Did you know Juste Belmont is supposed to be like 16? And he's friends with a NINJA and a girl who always wears a maid's outfit? What the **** I'm like 18 and: I'm not yet a vampire hunter. My best friend is not a ninja. I don't know any hot maid girls. And I haven't had a cool save-the-world adventure. | Level: 43 Editor | [Spoiler for Kenri, click to show]The main character dies at the end. =( </spoiler> [Spoiler for CV: Portrait of Ruin, click to show]Started a new game. Ahem... JOHNATHAN! CHARLOTTE! JOHNATHAN! CHARLOTTE! JOHNATHAN CHARLOTTE! Jurius. Yoko. Arikado! INUYASHA! KAGOME! KAZUMAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! RYUHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! RICHAAARDDDD! MICHAELLLLL! SNAKE? SNAKE?! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAKE! OOOOOUUUUENNNNNDAAAAAAN! DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS My... ninja info cards. ...I sorta lost control of that near the end. Cleared the first three portraits. 1000 Knives (or whatever it's called) makes some boss fights a joke. Well, not a joke, but fairly short and boring, since you just use it like 3 times immediately, then wait for your MP to restore, use it again, wait for your MP to restore, etc, until the boss dies. How people can consider PoR better than SotN or DoS is beyond me. Yeah, the first four portraits kicked ass. But then the next four were the same thing. Only flipped. It's like the inverted castle in SotN except that changed the feel a bit. Here, it's just like "okay, it used to be a pyramid during the day but now it's like... a pyramid at night and upside down". Or "hey, this used to be a clusterfuck of random rooms vaguely resembling a circus, now it's a slightly different clusterfuck of random rooms vaguely resembling a circus". Yeah. Somewhat related theory: In a video game, if you are ever required to go to a circus, rest assured it will be the worst part of that game. Yes, even worse than the water level. (I have nothing to back that up except PoR and Phoenix Wright 2.) Still an awesome game, but SotN and DoS are in different leagues altogether. </spoiler> --- "This topic is just as dumb as you are." ~Ogor "I'm not perverted! | Level: 43 Editor | [Spoiler for CV: PoR, click to show]Cleared the fourth portrait last night. Explored some more of the castle, and found a boss fight with Death. He made me cry blood. Again. DAMN YOU DEATH (Death looks like Skeletor in PoR btw. Seriously. It's freaky.) Back to Sandy Grave now that I have the frog morph. I grab the Sanctuary spell and cure Vincent, then make a beeline for the boss fight against the Sisters. Jonathan: SANCTUAAARY! SANCTUAAARY! Charlotte: ...why did I teach him that word... Several unfortunate deaths later I actually cast the spell and tried my luck against Whip's Memory. lol massacre Okay, I'll do that later. Cleared Dark Academy, which is the most disappointing wizard's school ever. I dunno what went wrong there, since it should've been loaded with cool ****. See: Harry Potter 1-4 Not 5-7 though, because that's where they sorta dropped the ball and forgot about everything that made the first four books... you know... readable. ANYWAY. Killed The Creature (which is totally not Frankenstein's Monster). I refused to use Clear Skies or Dark Rift so that fight was sorta fun. Next painting: Forgotten City. I search for the dodo first of all, but can't kill it in one shot and then it runs away. Screw it, I'll come back later when I have Chain Lightning or something. Into the pyramid proper, I head to the right and reach a dead end after several rooms, so backtrack and to the left this time, fighting a catgirl named Laura along the way. Why does everything try to kill me in Castlevania? Why don't I ever run into any friendly catgirls who aren't under Dracula's control and who are interested in threesomes? Making my way through the pyramid still... ****ing Armored Fleamen. Worst enemy ever. Anyway. I find an Attica Helmet and equip it on Jonathan. ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA! Found a save point. I cast Owl Morph and grab the Griffon Wing, aka the BEST RELIC EVER **** YES SUPER JUMPS! I celebrate this victory by smashing Jonathan's head into the ceiling a couple times. This is what he gets for spelling his way without an H. I just mastered the Shuriken sub weapon. Yesssssssss. I'd be using the Holy Water (aka best subweapon ever) but it sucks in this. So Shuriken will have to do. And since it does like 200 damage per use when maxed out, it's doing quite nicely! In one of the rolling boulder rooms I cast Owl Morph and grab a Book of Death (which is weaker than Charlotte's current tome, wtf) and grab a new dual crush - Meteor. At the fork I go left and grab a Platinum Corset (wtf) and then backtrack and go right. I find another save point and move onwards and upwards back towards the dead end I reached earlier. Short detour to get a Venus Brooch which I equip on Charlotte. Few rooms later, got an MP Max Up. Shuriken is now my default solution to any given problem. Seriously, 200 damage. Is there anything sharp flying objects can't do? I kill a Yorick and he drops a Spade - sweet, that's two cards out of the five I need to complete a quest... Obligatory "Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him." I very nearly walk into a trap a few rooms later, but manage to dodge it at the last second. I'm at the boss room now, so I use the nearby save point and head in. Let's do this. Mummy Man. 4500 HP. Shuriken is doing roughly 270 damage per hit. ...lol Anyway, killed him. Grabbed the Holy Mail nearby and equipped it on Jonathan. Backtracked a bit and grabbed the last few percentage points. Forgotten City - 100.0% Next up, 13th Street... </spoiler> --- "This topic is just as dumb as you are." ~Ogor "I'm not perverted! | Level: 43 Editor | [Spoiler for CV: PoR, click to show]So, starting 13th Street, I leave the safety of the warp room and head down a long tunnel when suddenly A TRAIN APPEARS HOLY **** I summon Charlotte and try to push it back because apparently Jonathan and Charlotte are strong enough to stop a train with their bare hands. I really need to bring that up in the next vs. topic I see involving them. The train pushes me back into the warp room regardless, though, so let's try again, this time with Charlotte with me from the beginning. ...Okay, closer, but no dice. Apparently I need some item or something, I don't know. Whatever. Let's do Burnt Paradise I guess. ... **** that. Burnt Paradise sucks. I'm going back to the other areas and 100%ing them. But first, a trip to Wind - I mean, Eric - for new quests maybe. But before THAT, I'm gonna kick Whip's Memory's ass. Into the Hyperbaric Time Chamber and there's Richter. Fully leveled Shuriken, bitch. Okay, with Richter's ass sufficiently kicked, my Vampire Killer gets powered up, **** YEAH LIFE DRAINING POWER. Also, it is still substantially weaker than my current weapon. What the crap. I try to get back into the Hyperbaric Time Chamber to do that powering up ritual like 8 more times but apparently Vegeta is using it now. ****. Whatever, I don't need it, I can stop a goddamn train with my bare hands. And make toast with my face. **** yeah. NOW, back to Eric. But first, there's a room nearby that I couldn't get to the topmost part of without Owl Morph/Griffon's Wing, so I go there and get an ALL Boost spell. Too bad boost spells are mostly worthless. Okay, short detour to finish the couple quests and 100.0% the all the previous portraits. Back to 13th Street, because I checked a FAQ and apparently I was just sucking. This time, I summon my partner immediately as the train appears and manage to stop it. Yessss. I make my way through about half the map, finding a couple secret areas and grabbing the fifth card for The Gambler quest. Not much to note here. I grab a Wedding Dress for Charlotte (which isn't creepy at all) and come upon the boss room. But first, I take a detour and grab some equipment. Okay, back to the boss. This is the weird new-big-sprite werewolf, right? ... Indeed it is. And it's pretty much the easiest boss in the game. Spam Shuriken, wolfy dies. | Level: 43 Editor | [Spoiler for CV: PoR, click to show]No writeups lol. <_< So yeah, beat Dracula + Death, which is totally unfair. Jonathan: Two vs two, so it's even! EXCEPT NOBODY USES CHARLOTTE EVER Gah. You know what's annoying? Getting hit by Dracula and knocked into one of Death's attacks. ANYWAY Beat the Nest of Evil. The Creature x2 is still the hardest part of the game. Finished all the quests, too. ...I'm gonna call that "beaten" and move on to SotN. Yeah, I didn't get every enemy drop, but whatever, I've done that twice before. No reason to torture myself trying to get Final Guard's rare drop a third time. </spoiler> --- "This topic is just as dumb as you are." ~Ogor "I'm not perverted! | Level: 43 Editor | Whoa, forgot about this. -Got Final Guard's rare drop at random in PoR, so I decided to get the other drops since the hardest one was taken care of. -Replayed and beat SotN. Didn't do writeups since I was pretty much playing it constantly. -Replayed and beat Zelda: PH while I was on vacation. Awesome game, but I think I missed a Power Gem somewhere since I was supposed to get it from Oshus and now he's not in his house. Damn. I was trying to 100% too. -I love Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. Darker and edgier sequels usually suck (or, at least, are not as good as the lighter and softer other games). But it sorta works here. Advance Wars and I have a bit of a love/hate relationship. Because I always start the game and play pre-deployed maps without any Factories/Airports/Ports and those are super awesome and I rock at them. Then I play further and get to maps where I start with 15 units pre-deployed and the enemy has 45 pre-deployed and I have a base and port and the enemy has two bases and an airport and a port and there's a neutral airport that I need to get to to capture in order to win and I need to worry about producing the right units and I don't know which ones and AUGH THEY'RE ALMOST TO THE AIRPORT I NEED TO GET THAT QUICKLY I NEED TO BUILD AN ARMY OF BATTLESHIPS AND whew, won that... wtf C rank?! GODDAMMIT So yeah. Those sort of levels are torture. Partly but not entirely because I suck at them. Anyway. I've played 13 story missions so far and I've gotten 13 S ranks. Story is decent though not amazing and the Mayor and Greyfield pisses me the hell off (though Greyfield is an idiot. "Where does Brenner's power lie? In Rigs?"). ... Rigs can't even attack... At least we haven't reached the point of anyone asking "What's an airport?" Also, best dialogue ever (paraphrased, of course): [trying to guess an access code] "Anyone have a favorite 10 digit number?" "Wait! 9691026480!" "...You... actually have a favorite 10 digit number?!" --- "This topic is just as dumb as you are." ~Ogor "I'm not perverted! I'm just immensely fascinated!" ~Lisa Yadomaru, Bleach |

| Level: 30 Legend | So I come to you Kenri and others of awesomeness to suggest a game to me for the SNES or a basic easy ROM download. I was thinking Mother 3 because you were speaking of Mother and saying you were having some fun with it. But could you suggest an RPG or something of that nature to play that you think I would greatly enjoy? Some games I've played to help me out. I have beaten Chrono Trigger, FF3(6), FF3 (DS), ff7-12 (tried 11-wasnt too great), FF1, Chrono Cross, Suikoden 3...Those are the ones worth mentioning. I have Suikoden 1 and 2. My friend said they were amazing, but I have not really put effort into the game. Can you guys shed some light if they are indeed good games? |
