Chapter 9 this write-up is way too ****ing long. seriously. you have been warned.

Okay, here's the deal. Eliwood took over the Lycia Alliance, and Roy is left in charge of the army. Etruria wants the Lycia army to head over to their colonies, the Western Isles, and clear out a bandit infestation. See, Etruria has a bunch of very profitable mining operations on the Western Isles. Lycia's in no place to refuse despite outrage in both Lycia and Etruria. Once they get there, Roy asks Cecilia what up wit dat. She says that the order was given by the king's advisor Roartz, in association with the Lord who oversees the mining operations here. King Mordred, ever since his son Mildain's sudden death, has been completely different, and Roartz has been essentially ruling in his stead. In fact, he's been specifically preventing Etruria's Three Generals - Percival, Cecilia, and Douglas - from seeing the king.

Roy tells Guinevere to go with Cecilia back to Lycia for protection, because she's not safe here on the Western Isles. She reluctantly agrees. Man. She is so kidnapped.

...So, the deal with this chapter is, there are two paths you can take, and two villages. (Technically three, but two of them are tied to each other - visit one, the other shuts down as well; these two villages determine which chapter you go to next.) There's also a fog of war, and pirates spawn from forts on tiny islands pretty much every turn.

...

You ever have one of those experiences where everything goes off without a hitch? Nothing goes wrong? Your crazy, million-to-one shot works? Everything goes flawlessly EXCEPT for the one tiny detail that is also the only detail that matters?

Well, this was like that. I ran all over this chapter. I ran a daring cavalier delivery service with Thany, using Alan and Lance to solo the top of the map while the rest of my party forged ahead without ever slowing down. We trampled over the pirates, saved the villages... Shut down all the reinforcements... Destroyed the boss... I actually felt like my characters were overleveled.

But I didn't get either of the two characters recruitable this chapter.

Because I COULDN'T get either of the two characters recruitable this chapter.

Because they require Noah and Sue to get.

*sigh*

So I have to lug around two entirely useless characters. My team is level 12-15 right now! Sue is level 1 and Noah's level 5! This is ridiculous, Fire Emblem!

...*sigh*

WARNING: POINTLESS STRATEGIZING INCOMING

I think I'm going to have to do a modified version of the same strategy. Drop off Alan and Lance and let them solo the north part of the map, but Thany doesn't get to rejoin the main army this time. Oh no, she needs to grab Noah and get ready to drop him off in a very precise location so that he can recruit Fir the turn AFTER being dropped, but without being in her range the turn he IS dropped. Which will be tricky, because I don't know where exactly Fir is, because fog of war. Clarine may have to stay behind at the starting point to toss Physic heals to Alan and Lance; we'll see.

Meanwhile, the rest of my army will have to move as fast as possible while somehow also being slow enough to draw Shin out of hiding, let Sue talk to and recruit him, and then surround them in a protective fashion, because I don't anticipate being able to rescue them reliably with no cavaliers or pegasus knights. I do have Marcus, but he's probably going to be walling enemies to the south, and if not, he's going to be hustling to the southern village.

After obtaining Shin, he and Sue will probably have to retreat to the far east of the map, aka the starting point, because no enemies spawn there, so it's the safest place for them. Thany will most likely grab Noah and take him back while Alan and Lance form a blockade to protect Fir. Thany will then return, grab Fir, and take her to the safe zone, and I'll most likely break the party. Roy, Chad, and Rutger will head south with Marcus while the rest of my party walls the pirate reinforcements in the center of the map and forms a pincer with the social knights, eventually leading to a regrouping.

When the reinforcements stop, the main party will head north and then west, forming a pincer with Roy's group.

As for the characters I'll drop to accommodate Sue and Noah, it'll most likely end up being Merlinus and Wolt.

And so, the chapter that wasn't that hard, has become that hard.

END POINTLESS STRATEGIZING

...

Okay, it's a day later, let's do this. Wolt, Merlinus, Marcus, you're out. Noah, Sue, Zealot, you're in. (who would name their child "zealot".)

By the way, good news zone - I learned that you can get multiple S ranks in this game. So Clarine is not screwed after all.

Clarine class changes from Nightmare Troubadour to Valkyrie Profile. HP +4, Magic +3, Skill +2, Speed +2, Defense +2, Res +3, Con +1.

Lot levels. HP, Str, Spd, Def, Res. Amazing.

So, story time. The boss has tricked Fir into working for him by telling her that the villagers here are at risk from the attacking "pirates" (us). She's working with Shin, a nomad who's only here because he's looking for someone, the granddaughter of his clan's leader (Sue). Basically, the boss wants Fir to get killed so he can steal her rare sword, "Watou", and sell it. I don't know if that's a mistranslation of Wo Dao, or a specific name her Wo Dao has.

Lance levels. HP, Spd, Def. I think, might've been Res. He's probably dead this turn though... Nope, just barely survives. Man.
Rutger levels. HP, Skl, Spd. You know, I'd be pissed that he's been missing Str levels, but he's level 11, and I think he's already reached his average strength. I actually looked up average stats for some of my characters, and by and large, they're doing FANTASTICALLY. I can't believe it.
Chad levels. HP, Skl, Spd, Luk. Oh, I also learned that Thieves in this game can't promote. So THAT's awesome.
Lance levels. HP, Str.

Okay, Noah to Fir... XD

(paraphrased)

Noah: Oh hey Fir, what are you doing here?
*Noah's portrait vanishes, then reappears*
Noah: Whoa! What are you doing? Put that sword away!

Noah eventually convinces her to join us by pointing out that a pirate has been stalking her this whole time, and that she hasn't noticed. XD Noah. I should've used you instead of Alan and Lance. You are the best character.

Roy levels. HP, Skl, Res.

Okay, so now I just have to get Shin. But he's going after my north group instead of my south group. Hmm... How am I gonna do this... He's an archer, so... I may have to stall against him with my cavaliers indefinitely, though I don't like that option very much at all.

Dieck levels. HP, Spd.
Dieck levels. HP, Str, Luk.

Okay, good, my strike team of Chad and Rutger drew Shin away from my social knights. Sue can now talk to him, and then the reaping will begin.

Lot levels. HP, Str. Skl, Def.

Sue got him. He's joining us. Shin then grabbed Sue and ran for it. Now we just need to make it to the southern village...

Okay, got the village with Zealot and Dieck. Pirate reinforcements are starting to appear now. The biggest issue will be to not let myself get swarmed, because my team is totally broken right now.

Rutger levels. HP, Str, Skl.
Lilina levels. Magic, Def.
Roy levels. Skl, Luk. I hate you.
Thany levels. HP, Skl, Spd.
Lot levels. HP, Skl, Def.
Thany levels. HP, Skl. Awful.
Chad levels. HP, Spd, Luk.
Lot levels. HP, Res.
Clarine levels. Luk. Awful. So awful.
Alan levels. HP, Str, Spd, Luk.
Dieck levels. HP, Str, Spd.

And that just leaves the boss! It's a Berserker, which means there are three ways to fight him.

1) The Super Safe Method

Don't let him equip his Handaxe. Hit him from range with magic, using the rescue and release strategy. 100% safe, he can't do a goddamn thing to do.

2) The Gambling Man's Method

Leave a nimble swordsman in his Handaxe range. He'll attack them, equipping his Hand Axe in the process. Now attack him at close range, using the rescue and release method. Somewhat safe; he'd need to hit at a <20% chance and then crit at an additional 30% chance.

3) The Suicide Method

Attack him at close range. Watch as he hits with a 40% chance and crits with a 60% chance. Do the chapter over. Use one of the above two methods this time.

Dieck levels from landing the killing blow on the boss. HP, Str, Skl, Luk.

Roy and Merlinus brainstorm their next move; they were ambushed here, so someone must have known they were coming. Roy says that they'll move north along the coast; he's heard that some people are being forced to work in the mines there, so he figures some investigation is in order.
--
Chapter 10A

(note that, depending on which of the two northern villages you visit, you'll either go here or 10B. I've heard that 10A is better, so I chose the left village. *shrug* I don't know what effects, if any, this has on the story.)

Finerbia, Caledonia, and Dhia are the three Western Isles. All of them are full of mines. The largest mine is located in Mt. Ebrakhm, in northern Finerbria. Roy's headed there. But first we must pass through a castle in a valley; the castle's lord is named Nord, and has the same sprite as Wagner, the boss from chapter... 5, I think. So THAT'S a good sign. Roy sent a request to Nord to be allowed to pass, and the narration notes that, because they were here on official Etrurian business, he didn't think gaining permission would be as hard as it was... Ominous.

Oh god, I hate this chapter already. Berserkers as regular enemies? Ballistae? That's terrible.

Anyway, so Nord decides to attack us because... I don't even know, just because he can, I guess. Roy is forced to fight back.

Rutger levels. HP, Skl, Luk.
Roy levels. HP, Str, Luk, Def, Res. Awesome.
Wolt, who is back in my party now, levels. Str, Skl, Spd, Def. Glad to have you back, Wolt.

Soon, something begins to happen at the nearby village! A pirate tells a villager that he's leaving to go avenge his friends. They were told they'd be given work and were taken to the mines, but they were just worked to death. =/ So now Geese is going to go storm the castle himself and avenge them. He joins the field as an NPC unit. He is also amazingly handsome. Like, wow.

Roy talks to Geese. He's about to attack Roy because Roy is working with Etruria, but eventually they reach an agreement: Roy will pay Geese to work as their guide for these islands, and they're also going to work together to take out Nord and his men.

...I really want to use Geese, actually. I've pumping EXP into Lot, especially these last few levels, but Geese is a much better character. In every way.

Hmm... Next turn the boss calls on a brigand named Gonzales. This guy seems to be a bit... Nord tells him to go destroy the village. Gonzales doesn't want to, but Nord orders him. Once Gonzales leaves, Nord comments that he may be ugly, but that he has a kind heart, and that destroying a village will be good for him. *checks stats* oh wow, 12 Str at level 5. Yikes.

Anyway, I'm sending Thany to the village. No problem, with that ballista shut down. She gets a Swordreaver, and is told about Lalum, a girl who was very kind to the villagers or some such. Presumably she's the dancer that was captured by Nord under belief she was a spy. Did I not mention that? Oh well, this can serve as my mention of it.

Lilina levels. HP, Magic, Skl, Luk.
Alan levels. HP, Skl, Spd.
Dieck levels. HP, Skl. Awful.

Sent Lilina to Gonzales. She convinces him to join their group because he's a good person, and nobody in our group will mock him for his appearance. Well, none of the characters will; the tactician makes no guarantees.

Geese levels up. HP, Skl. Terrible. Not a good sign of things to come, Geese!
Geese levels. HP, Spd, Luk.
Geese levels. HP. .......Yeeeeah.

Geese levels. HP, Spd. Oh my god why are you getting such awful level ups Geese. YOU HAVE BETTER GROWTHS THAN LOT IN EVERYTHING EXCEPT DEF AND RES WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU.
Geese levels. Skl, Luk.
Geese levels. .......HP, Def. You're just mocking me now. Okay you know what? Screw this. SAVE STATE GO.

*rewinding sound*

-ne of the characters will; the tactician makes no guarantees.

Geese levels up. HP, Skl. Terrible. Not a good sign of things to come, Geese!
Geese levels. HP, Str.
<---Here is where history begins to change for the better.
Geese levels. HP, Str.
Clarine levels. HP, Magic, Res.
Geese levels. HP, Str, Spd. THE FUTURE HAS AGREED TO CHANGE!
Geese levels. HP, Skl, Spd. I'll accept that.
Wolt levels. HP, Skl, Luk.
Thany levels. HP, Skl, Spd.
Rutger levels. HP, Skl.
Thany levels. Luk. Thany, I don't say this often enough, but: I hate you.

Just about anyone can fight Nord competently. He has Nosferatu, but still. Not a problem.

Thany levels. HP, Str, Skl, Luk, Res. aww yeah an awesome level after killing a boss is the best kind of awesome level.

We rescue Lalum, a dancer who was locked away in the castle's dungeon. She is very... physical... with Roy, reinforcing the stereotype that all dancers in FE games are sluts. She asks us to help her rescue some people who were forced to work in the mines; apparently Etruria has been working with the bandits to blah blah blah I'm sure you get the idea and saw this coming two chapters ago if not even earlier. I need to stress that SHE ACTUALLY IS A MEMBER OF THE RESISTANCE. The boss was right about her! God, that's embarrassing. For her, I mean. And for us, to agree to help someone so incompetent.

Gonzales, Gonzales, Gonzales!

Gonzales the medieval brigand,
He is at your command!
Gonzales the medieval brigand,
His power is in your hand!

Bigger than big, taller than tall,
Quicker than quick, stronger than strong!
Ready to fight for right, against wrooong!

Gonzales, Gonzales, Gonzales!

I'm an idiot.

I start up FE7 to try to beat chapter 23x, which is absolute torture. And I see that I have Quick Save data for my last attempt. And I think: okay, I'm going to restart this. I'll hit the "delete data" button.

...

You are now manually realizing that I did the EXACT SAME FUCKING THING during my Advance Wars: Days of Ruin playthrough.

It... might be.

You know, I had a big plan for this playthrough, but I've just ruined it pretty much, so I might as well just tell you.

Right now I have two save files:

The first one is from several chapters ago, it's my back up HHM save.

The other one is from Chapter 24, after I used the Mine Glitch to beat Genesis.

This was going to be my next contest - I was basically going to post a writeup that would have been something like:
Chapter 23x - Genesis Rhapsodos

Deployment (???/8): Estuans interius, ira vehementi, estuans interius, ira vehementi, SEPHIROTH, SEPHIROTH

It is time.

For.

THE REUNION.

[insert contest details here about trying to figure out how I beat the chapter to win shrines, with how I actually won being revealed at the end of the playthrough]
This was, in fact, planned from the beginning of the playthrough. Note:

Marcus got the village and got... a Mine. Thanks. Thanks for that. I'm so glad I went through all this trouble now. Because it may have cost me my sanity, but now I've got a Mine, easily the best item in the game.

And:

I only saved one soldier. JUST AS PLANNED. I swear. I didn't even want to save the other two. I'M NOT UPSET ABOUT THIS AT ALL, SHUT UP.

I also think I mentioned to you that I had a plan for Genesis, and that it would involve deploying Sephiroth? Plus all that stuff about how "boss abuse/RNG cycling isn't worst thing I'll do this playthrough" and so forth? <_<

(I would have, however, ALSO beaten the chapter legitimately, of course, because I'm not a casual.)

So, now my options are:

1. Restart from several chapters ago.
2. Just continue and never beat Genesis legitimately.
3. ragequit

I'm leaning towards 3, tbqh.

The chance of option 1 actually happening is... very near to zero.

I mean, it wasn't even fun to play through these chapters the first time.

While we debate this - post-Genesis team update!
Hector
Same as before, I'm not retyping it or copy-pasting it.

Eliwood
Level 20 EXP --
HP: 33
STR: 16
SKL: 15
SPD: 18
Luck: 12
DEF: 9
RES: 6
Weapon Rank(s): Swords - A
Support(s): Lyn - A, Hector - B

Comments: what a beast. seriously.

VS. xp's Eliwood: laughing_dog.gif

Lyn
Level 20 EXP --
HP: 37
STR: 16
SKL: 20
SPD: 20
Luck: 16
DEF: 5
RES: 3
Weapon Rank(s): Swords - A
Support(s): Eliwood - A, Florina - C

Comments: You are now manually realizing that my Lyn would have the same amount of STR as xp's, had I given her the Energy Ring. Also, look at Lyn's stats, then at Eliwood's, then back at Lyn's. Eliwood wins that, right? I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Eliwood is getting my first Heaven Seal.

VS. xp's Lyn: I still lose in Luck, DEF, and RES. =(

Serra
Level 20/6 EXP 50
HP: 28
STR: 15
SKL: 15
SPD: 17
Luck: 17
DEF: 8
RES: 20
Weapon Rank(s): Staves - S, Light - C
Support(s): Oswin - A, Sain - B

Comments: Her Magic is concerning me less and less. Now I'm more worried about her HP. Seriously, 28 HP at level 26? Disgusting.

Guy
Level 20/1 EXP 43
HP: 43
STR: 13
SKL: 20
SPD: 20
Luck: 13
DEF: 9
RES: 5
Etc

Comments: Oh look. Some ****ing Strength. FINALLY.

Florina
Level 20/1 EXP 0
HP: 36
STR: 13
SKL: 16
SPD: 16
Luck: 19
DEF: 8
RES: 13
Etc

Comments: My Florina is finally almost average. Except her SPD sucks, and SPD is, you know, kinda important.

Raven
Level 17 EXP 85
HP: 40
STR: 18
SKL: 16
SPD: 20
Luck: 7
DEF: 7
RES: 4
Etc

Comments: I really wish Raven's defenses were better, considering he can't dodge very well. But I'm not gonna complain about 18 STR and maxed SPD at level 17. That's fantastic.

Those are the important ones. The others are largely unchanged. Except Kent has improved, but seriously, who cares about Kent.
The chance of option 1 actually happening is... very near to zero.

Then that describes my interest in following this then. >_>

Because Genesis was the thing I was looking forward to. It's one thing if you just deleted your file and so stopped the run. I mean, if I had somehow did that, I'd probably have done that too.

But continuing after you Mine Glitch'd past Genesis? It really just honestly kills my interest and enthusiasm towards this. I'm not saying that makes sense, or that you should even care about that, but yeah. <_<

I can do a writeup for my test runs of Genesis, if you like. >_>

In fact, I will!
Chapter 23x - Genesis

Forcing me to take Hawkeye? I hate you, game.

Deploying Matthew, Guy, Lyn, Eliwood, Serra, and Florina in addition to the forced Hector and Hawkeye.

...Oh wonderful, my party gets split at the start of the map. Well then, let's get started. I'm sure Guy can solo his half of the map, right, right?

...Wow, Bolting does a lot of damage to Lyn.

ahahahahaha Guy is actually doing better than Eliwood/Lyn/Serra/Florina because of Kishuna's movements helping him and screwing everyone else.

...............did kishuna really just leave the level before I could even get near him

oh god, Bolting does enough damage to 2HK Lyn.

...and also Eliwood

......and Florina

............and Merlinus

......................................................

Um.

what.

Okay, new plan. Turtling like a mother****er.

...Can the enemies here seriously hit the entire map? Really? In a chapter where you're basically required to bring along a thief?

.....Okay, sure, just kill Merlinus from halfway across the map. That's fine.

Guy and Lyn have been put to Sleep. Guy is currently making dodges in his sleep to defend a chokepoint from about 10 very pissed off enemies.

Okay, this is fine. We're just gonna Physic it up and win through attrition. I only have to survive like three more turns of th-

Serra gets put to Sleep.

And killed by Bolting.

...

Uh

Uhhh

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yeah, mine glitch time.
exciting, wasn't it.
Which is why you need to go full offense from the very beginning so you have the entire enemy army pushed back so they can't be in range of Merlinus. You can advance the Merlinus group down at least one room, and that should be enough that everyone is targeting your actual combat units and not Merlinus. In fact, the only way I can even imagine them capable of targeting Merlinus in the first place is if you try and camp the starting location and just let them walk over to you. You need to have both groups going on complete offense to try and eliminate as many enemies as you can while you have Kishuna helping you out. The team away from Merlinus, I usually don't bring them all the way down to that Luna Druid, instead I opt to beat everyone else on their side and send them to break through to Merlinus's position after that. That Luna Druid will start following you as soon as he can when the doors open, but that group should have broken most of the walls to Merlinus by then so they won't get caught by him.
So... Got a DS. (DSi XL)
I'm actually surprised at this thing. I was skeptical about the touch screen at first, but it works... Really fucking well. I can't believe how accurate and smooth it is.
I expected it to have some sort of response delay, but it doesn't really.

It especially works for a pokemon game (Got SoulSilver with it)
I can't believe how fluid and quick it makes the game now, the old way just... Seems clunky and awkward after playing it. My only issue is that the stylus can hurt after a little bit.
SS is extremely good for a port. I kinda like how they realized how fucking hard it was originally, considering you can now capture a Mareep before you fight Falkner, which allows you to easymode his fight. Man, he was a PRICK in the original. >_>

Over-all, it's a pokemon game. Can't say too much about it other then THIS IS HOW YOU DO A PORT OR REMAKE.

Chapter 11A

Roy sends a letter to Cecilia telling her what he's discovered and what actions he plans to take, and with that, heads to Mt Ebrakhm with Lalum. The person overseeing the mine here, nicknamed the Mine of Death ("it's just a name, like the doom cave, or the mine of no return. all the mines have names like that on terror mountain!"), is a bishop from the St. Elmine church named Oro. (Any Oro Jackson references will be punishable by death.)

Chapter starts with Hot Chick/Dragon Knight/Bern Jerk Miledy talking to Oro about the location of Guinevere. Oro apologizes, but says that all searches for her have turned up nothing. Miledy exits, at which point Oro begins talking to his subordinate about how Guinevere is a valuable hostage.

............................

THIS IS THE EXACT SAME SHIT THAT ALREADY HAPPENED

Apparently Etruria Advisor Roartz found out that Cecilia was guarding Guinevere in a place called Aquelia (sp?) and was as excited as he was when the assassination of Prince Mildain was successful. Yeah who didn't see this coming, seriously. Oro then orders an attack on the village.

Roy sees the attack beginning, and decides to intervene without waiting for a reply from Cecilia. Attaboy, Roy. Lalum joins our group as a Dancer, always appreciated.

Wolt levels. HP. Damn you Wolt. No, no, getting a weapon level up does not decrease your failure.
Roy levels. HP, Skl, Luk, and... Def, I think. Might've been Res.

...Okay, yeah, I screwed up this chapter badly. Wow. This is... this is gonna be a problem.

Basically, two villages are in danger, in two radically different parts of the map. There are also three allies I need to recruit; two of them appear as enemies, and one of them needs to be recruited by the other. These two recruitable enemies also appear on radically different parts of the map. Each of them appears with four reinforcements who become NPCs once I recruit their leader; I can't let any of these NPCs die if I want special items.

...

Christ.

Okay, let's try this again, from the top, in super hustle mode.

Lance levels. HP, Str, Skl, Spd, Luk.

Lance and Alan are soloing the middle route. Clarine is soloing the southern route. The rest of my group is taking the north route to a breakable wall; they're then going straight for the boss.

Clarine levels. Spd, Luk, Res.
Wolt levels. HP, Str, Skl, Res. Excellent.
Alan levels. HP, Str, Luk.
Dieck levels. HP, Skl, Spd.
Lance levels. Skl, Luk. Awful.

Okay, so on turn 5, Klein, a sniper and Clarine's brother, appears to the southeast. He's been hired by Oro to destroy the Lycia Alliance Army, who are working with the bandits here apparently. News to me. With him is Tate/Thite/Thito (my translation says Tate, but that is stupid name for a young girl, so Thite it is), possibly Thany's sister, an Ilian Pegasus Knight mercenary. The highest priority for them both is to save the villagers, which is a big flashing light that says "RECRUIT US". Thite soon leaves to attack with her party a few turns later from the northwest. Klein mentions that he was ordered to let Thite's group attack first to minimalize Etrurian casualties, but that he's planning to attack before her instead.

In any case, I send Clarine to talk to Klein.

Klein: Is General Roy working with the bandits and attacking the people here?
Clarine: No, of course not! We're here to defeat the bandits!
Klein: I see...
Clarine: The Etrurians here are evil and malicious people... it is so embarrassing. Klein... are you working for them?
Klein: No. At least not now, after hearing your story.
*Klein becomes blue and his units become green*

Lilina levels. HP, Magic, Spd, Res.

Normally, I would let all reinforcements appear for EXP purposes. In this case, I'm going to have eight NPCs to protect. Not going to let any reiforcements appear. Gotta take the boss down ASAP.

Okay, took out the boss, got Klein to Thite, recruited Thite to our cause.

Soon, a female hero appears from one of the houses.

...

so cool

She is Echidna, the leader of the resistance forces. She can be recruited by Lalum. More importantly, however, when she spawns, so do three reinforcements, here to capture her. Except they go after my characters instead. Goddammit. SAVE STATE POWERS, ACTIVATE! Form of... anti-frustration features! Shape of... not wasting a lot of time!

Okay, that's better. Got Echidna, killed the enemies, etc.

...

here I come, rougher than the rest of them
the best of them, tougher than leather!
my name's Echidna, and unlike Lalum I don't chuckle
I'd rather flex my muscles!

Roy levels up. HP, Skl, Spd, Luk, Def.
Thany levels up. Str, Skl, Luk. Very nice.
Lalum levels up. HP, Str, Spd, Luk. lol str

...oh hey some more bandits just randomly appear from the caves on a random turn even after the boss is dead ahahahahahahahahaha

"So don't fear strategy. And don't run from save states. Both will make you stronger."
"Save states, too?"
"Especially save states. Because that power is yours alone."

SAVE STATE, AWAKEN!

Alan levels. HP, Skl, Def, Res.
Roy levels. Str, Spd, Luk.
Wolt levels. HP, Str, Skl, Spd, Luk. Hey a good level for Wolt, amazing.
Clarine levels. Spd, Luk.
Lalum levels. HP, Res. (Yes, I'm dance grinding. Not a lot of it, though, because it's even more boring than other kinds of grinding.)

Okay, castle conquered. A guy named Elphin from the resistance forces is here to see Roy.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

It's Rafiel!

xp is going to be so upset when he sees this.

He says that we've rebelled against Etruria, and that it's awfully suspicious they would send Lycia's only army all the way here. He mentions a rumor that Roartz and Arcard are working with Bern to destroy Lycia. Merlinus begins to freak out, but Roy insists they stay here and finish what they've been doing, and that Cecilia and Eliwood are capable of taking care of Lycia.

......

I find your faith in Eliwood... disturbing

Anyway, Elphin says that Roy is a wise leader, and that he was merely testing him by presenting a rumor in such a way. He then asks to join Roy's forces, and Roy reluctantly agrees (reluctantly, because Elphin is sort of a dick).

Because I saved all the villages, I get a Hero Crest.

Because all of Klein's troops survived, I get an Orion's Bolt.

Because all of Thite's troops survived, I get an Elysian Whip.

I also got a metric crapton of good items from the villages.

whew. that was hairy for a while there.

xp1337: Bern: Echidna! Your time is up-Wait! Hold it right there! Echidna, you just wait, some defenseless girls just showed up, we'll get to you *later*.

Stat Wars: Chapter XXIII - A New Hope

*insert Star Wars main theme here*

After far too long, KENRI has returned to
the NABATA DESERT. His goal is to rendezvous
with PENT and HAWKEYE, before heading onward
to the GAIDEN CHAPTER GENESIS. But something
lay in wait for him... a GUIDING RING he had
not noticed the first time through. His
resolve unwavering, he decided to steal it
before going on ahead.

The meeting with PENT successful, KENRI
and HAWKEYE traveled underground, where their
greatest challenge thus far would await them...

Seriously, you're not missing too much by now getting a real writeup of this easy chapter.

Chapter 23x - Genesis or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Bolting

Okay, my new strategy is to field Ninian with Nini's Grace, and Serra with Barrier, and give everyone Killer weapons. We're going to try to one-shot every enemy here.

You might question my choice of fielding Ninian when I really only get 6 units. But Ninian provides three useful tools:

1. Dancing allows us to take out a lot more enemies in the first few turns than we would be able to otherwise, and gives Serra multiple actions per turn.

2. Nini's Grace boosts my characters' pitiful RES, allowing them to survive some situations they otherwise wouldn't be able to.

And 3. Filla's Might allows Hawkeye and Sain to reliably OHK nearly every enemy on the map, crit or no crit. This is vital for taking down Luna Druids.

(Secret 4. Ninian also draws a lot of ranged magic her way, and she has a ton of avoid and RES.)

So yeah, that actually made Genesis rather trivial. <_< The only real tough part was surviving the initial onslaught of ranged magic/status after Kishuna leaves, but if you can avoid that and get everyone out of Berserk range, you can just have Serra wall everyone at one of the eastern chokepoints, even if she gets Silenced. There should only be one Luna Druid left, and he starts moving only after wasting his Eclipse, and by the time he makes it all the way from outside Kishuna's chamber to where you're set up, every other magic user on the map should be dead.

GET: AFA'S DROPS
No.

No, I am not.
Chapter 24 - Four Fangs to Killing You

oh god, post-Genesis inventory management. everyone back to your crappy weapons, the party's over!

...You know, I really, really wanted to just continue from my cheating-to-get-past-Genesis file, because my level ups were so much better there, but I just know that somebody would have bitched at me if I did that, even now that I beat Genesis legitimately.

-I sell a Guiding Ring and the Ocean Seal for a ton of money. I might end up recruiting Farina after all! Depends how many Silver weapons I want, I guess.

-Eliwood gets the Afa's Drops. The secondary reason for this is that he's definitely getting my first Heaven Seal, and is at a lower level than most of my other characters. The primary reason for this is as a small "fuck you" to xp. <_____< I think I did it wrong though, it said his maturity increased but he's still sleeping with his blankie.

Okay, recruited Geitz. I can honestly see him taking the spot of Kent/Florina/Guy in the near future, especially because I only have one Knight Crest currently, and Oswin is almost certainly getting it over Sain.

Raven promotes, just in time to start axin' a bunch of wyverns. Fucking wyverns have caused me so much grief in this game, but it's getting better now that I can send Sain, Serra, or Raven at them, in addition to Hector and Oswin.

Serra lures out the Bolting mage. Raven dashes up there and throws two 100% accurate Handaxes at him, ending his reign of terror. Now the only tricky part of the level is weathering the ****ing prohibitively large number of reinforcements.

God I hate this. Why am I even playing this. It's so terrible. It's like they realized, "hey, we can't include any legit difficulty in our game's hard mode, so we'll just throw a fuckton of weak enemies at the player and hope one of them manages to luck out." Even Genesis was better than this chapter/most chapters in HHM because at least it ENDED in a reasonable amount of time instead of, "oh no, can't get near the boss to finish the chapter because there are so many fucking reinforcements in the way".

There is seriously no reason to ever play this. If this playthrough caused one of you - CG7 or Epyon or someone else - to play this, I am so sorry. Seriously.

Anyway.

It is time to unleash the fucking FURY. Oswin promotes. GENERAL, MOTHERFUCKERS. WHAT UP.

We take out Linus' entourage. I wanted to give Florina both Hero kills, but Oswin critted one. Damn you Oswin. I then wanted to give Linus to Florina, but she only had an 89% chance of hitting, and would get one-shotted twice over if she missed, so yeah, fuck that. Instead, Eliwood faced him in honorable combat and won without a scratch. Eliwood hits level 20. And I'm pretty sure he's worse than he was last time around. Well, less STR, but more SPD - I blame you for this, xp!!
YEAAAAAAAAAAAH

Man. You know there are a lot of reinforcements when your initial instinct is to rearrange them into like-colored rows of four so they'll disappear.

Kent promotes using the Earth Seal after killing Pascal. Oswin, Sain, Kent, and Raven then proceed to clean out that whole area. God, axes are so overpowered. It's a wonderful change from them being useless in FE6. Of course, in this game, they beat everything, so uh, WTA still doesn't really work so well. But yeah.

Guy managed to solo the Warrior's castle and all the pirates that were there, despite getting hit by the Warrior's Silver Axe on a 6% chance, for like 27 damage.

Florina went on a daring mission to rescue the village, which involved fighting the pirates with an Axereaver while tanking Monk attacks and staying out of the boss' Purge range. Actually wasn't too bad, once I got it down.

Recruited Farina because why not.

All that's left is the Bishop and his trillions of monks. And you know what? I'm going to let Florina kill every single one of them. Chokepoint javelining go!

...I seriously had to kill about 25 monks to get one level up. Ugh. Florina promotes. Fuck yeah, no longer useless.

Guy promotes. Finally.

Fed the boss to Lyn, my only unpromoted character who isn't at level 20 yet, and got a very nice level out of it.
-Merlinus promotes.

Kenri: Agents! Report!
Eliwood: I thought we told you to never call us again.
Hector: Because you're a dick.
Kenri: This time will be different! It involves stealing superweapons with explosives.
Eliwood: I don't think there's any word suitable to describe how much I want no part in that.
Kenri: Well, that's a shame, because you're the decoy. Right after I do THIS

Eliwoodmon digivolve to...

Eliwood: ...what just happened.
Kenri: Now get moving, it's mine glitch time.
Eliwood: WHAT JUST HAPPENED.

.......And then they made me their chief.

The great part is that I got the Hammerne, and the weapon most likely to be Hammerne'd, in the same chapter! so convenient

and before anyone bitches about this, let me just say that I traded the Uber-Spear to the Luna Druid, thus giving up a very, very good magic tome in exchange for it. I did the trade in the minimum amount of moves possible, and then reset so that the enemy would get the rest of their enemy phase. in no way did I make this chapter, or the game, any easier by doing this.
Chapter 12

We're heading to Djuto, the Western Isles' largest city. We're gonna crush it, and Arcard, the guy in charge of it, into the ground.

Hmph. Arcard is the boss, but he immediately flees for his life back to Etruria when he sees us coming, leaving Flaer of Bern in charge. Elphin warns Roy that rumors say that a human who changes into a dragon lives in this castle.

More importantly, there is a named shaman called Ray here, pretending to be an enemy to spy on them. Hey! That's the guy from the orphanage Chad and Lugh were at! Well, luckily I've been using Chad, so I don't have to bring Lugh

...End of turn one, Flaer leaves as well, putting Aine in charge. He's a mamkute (aka a manakete, not to be confused with the Manni Katti, which is not to be confused with panna cotta). Apparently we can't hurt him with normal weapons. We'll see about that!

Rutger levels. HP. Dammit, Rutger. Look you only need a few more points of Str! Is that so much to ask? No, it isn't!
Lilina levels. HP, Magic, Skl, Luk, Def, Res. I think that was it.
Thany levels. HP, Luk. Only have two more levels to get extra Strength, Thany! Don't let me down!
Dieck levels. HP. URGH.
Lilina levels. HP, Magic, Res.
Rutger levels. HP, Str. Man, Rutger. You're really... sorta sucking. 10 Str, 20 Skl, 18 Spd... but then 6 Luck, 6 Def, and 1 Res. You're lucky you don't get hit ever.
Lalum levels. HP, Skl, Luk.
Lance levels. HP, Spd.
Wolt levels. HP, Spd.

...Recruited Ray with Chad. Cath showed up, finally recruited her with Roy. Now... the big problem is that I need to finish this chapter before turn 20, or I can't go to the gaiden chapter. I'm not sure that's possible at this point.

Wolt levels. HP, Skl, Luk.
Geese levels. HP, Skl.
Alan levels. HP, Str, Skl, Spd, Luk, Def.

Yeah, I messed up and couldn't finish the chapter in 20 turns. Oh wait. Did I say "I messed up and couldn't finish the chapter in 20 turns"? Because what I really meant was, "I would have been successful except that reinforcements showed up, moved on the same turn, and killed Lalum". It was a typo; the keys are like right next to each other. I lost... I don't even know how many of those above levels. I definitely got that Rutger level, but after that... But yeah, the only good one was that Alan level, so no big loss.

Lalum levels. HP, Str, Luk, Res.

Recruited Ray again.

Wolt levels. HP, Spd, Def, Res.
Lance levels. HP, Str, Skl, Def.

Killed the boss. Lilina levels. Magic, Luk, Res. Nice.

Alan levels. Str, Skl, Luk.
Alan levels. HP. hate you.
Geese levels. Str.

Recruited Cath. Got all the treasure. Captured throne on turn 18.

Roy: That was close... The power of a Dragon... Amazing.

".......Pffffffffffffahahahahaha I'm just joshing you guys, that was a joke. He just sat on the throne and yelled 'stop hitting me with lighting' while Lilina hit him with lightning! It was great."

Roy goes on to question how many Mamkutes Bern has and how they can possibly stand up against them. Hey Roy. Hey. Here's a great strategy:

1. Build a wall.
2. Put mages behind wall.
3. Destroy all mamkutes without ever taking any damage.
4. Win war.

Elphin suggests taking on a sidequest to level up further.

Roy: lfg wi dw wp20000g

So yeah, we're going to get the Divine Weapon. Roy thinks that if we get all 8, we might have a chance. All eight of us. Oh wait, wars generally have more than eight people on each side. I keep forgetting that. Yeah I don't see how this will be helpful, then. But whatever, I am always up for a sidequest.
--
Chapter 12 Gaiden

Some bandits have moved into the cave and are stealing the treasure. Despite that, very easy chapter. I think these gaiden chapters are meant for training weak units since this game LOVES to give you underleveled units, but my team is pretty much set in stone at this point.

Chad levels. Luk.
Clarine levels. Skl, Spd, Luk.
Roy levels. Skl, Def, Res.
Rutger levels. HP, Str.
Astol levels. HP, Str, Skl, Spd.
Lance levels. HP, Str, Skl, Spd.
Alan levels. HP, Skl, Spd.
Clarine levels. Magic, Skl, Luk.
Lance levels. HP, Str, Res.

The boss is a berserker, but he's not so tough.

We get Armads, and news from Aquelia. A rebellion has broken out. Arcard and Roartz have captured King Mordred, and are planning to divide the world up between Etruria and Bern. The three Generals have split up; Cecilia is heading to the island of Misul to the west. The other two joined the rebels because Mordred is being used as a hostage.

Chapter 27 - Battle Before Battle Before Dawn

This chapter's not so bad. I got the Jerme version, and I'm going to recruit Harken, because Harken is so awesome. Seriously, he has better stats than like every unit of mine. Ridiculous. Admittedly, he's a higher level than most of them.

Uhh... geez, what is there to say about this chapter. Oh yeah. There was this one funny thing:

Kenri: HEY I THINK I'LL OPEN THIS DOOR BECAUSE I SURE LIKE OPENING DOORS A LOT
*two Luna Druids*
Kenri: ...................

AND THEN SOMEHOW I DIDN'T DIE!

And uh... what else. Kent got knocked down to 4 HP, very scary. And I had to do some careful maneuvering to get the last treasure chest without killing the last enemy, because I didn't know where the boss was and thus didn't save him for last.

...Yeah, I have so little to say about this. Except that I am almost out of Lockpick uses. Like, I had 5 left going into this chapter. I might seriously have to burn a Hammerne use on my Lockpicks, if you can believe that.

also i hate snow so much
