Say a ball is flying.

How do I calculate where I can intercept it?

For example, baseball's hit. I want the fielder to take the optimal path to catch it.

k...well there are several instances if I uderstand what you're asking.

If you want the physics of it:

If you want to know what the coordinates vs time are for teh catcher, they'll match that of the ball:
x=V<font size="-2">o</font>t
y=y<font size="-2">o</font>+V<font size="-2">o</font>t-gt^2/2

(assuming the ball is hit horizontally, if not....)
x=V<font size="-2">o</font>t*cos(angle)
y=y<font size="-2">o</font>+V<font size="-2">o</font>t*sin(angle)-gt^2/2 (where V<font size="-2">o</font> is the speed of the ball after being hit; You could also assume elastic collision and take the velocity of the ball of the throw.)

no physics:

to find where you have to be where the ball lands(rather, where it will be at the same height from which is was hit, but the diff will be so minimal, it's useless to calculate), use the formula:

X=V<font size="-2">o</font>^2*sin(2*angle)/g
