However, that was intentional. I can't really say TotA is my 2nd favorite game if there is a tie at first. So the obvious thing to do is skip the second, as it now ceases to exist.

If there's a tie for first place, it means you value both of those games equally. Let's say you awarded 10 points for first place, 9 for second, 8 for third, etc. You'd have:

TP and Starcraft both get 10 points. By placing TotA in third place, you are giving it 8 points, and so on. However, we have skipped second place, so those 9 points have to stand around in limbo smoking cigarettes and whining that nobody loves them.
