| Level: 43 Editor | Since it's gonna be a bit over a month before I get me a Wii, I've decided to beat all the GCN games that I care about beating, and haven't beaten yet. I'll post writeups in this topic detailing my progress at regular intervals. Full list: Super Mario Sunshine (defeat final boss) Metroid Prime (currently at... I have no ****ing clue) Star Fox Adventures (see above) Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (defeat final boss) Sonic Heroes (beat Dark and Chaotix paths) Shadow the Hedgehog (get all endings) Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Falsebound Kingdom (beat all three stories and get all monsters) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (no idea where I am) The Simpsons: Hit and Run (see above) Finished: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker Luigi's Mansion Pikmin Pikmin 2 I'm in for a fun trip. <_< --- "If I don't live diligently, I can't die. | Level: 43 Editor | Pikmin 2 Progress: Subterranean Complex completed with all treasures. Pikmin fatalities: 1. The boss for this place was total hell. Man-at-Legs is a relative of the fairly simple earlier boss, Beady Long Legs, which is just a giant spider. The Man-at-Legs, however, is a spider... with a machine gun. Miyamoto's still got it. Anyway, obviously using brute force was not the answer, so I decided not to use either of my favored tactics - the Purple Pikmin strike team would move far too slowly, and a massive 100 Pikmin assault would leave me with heavy casualties. So I took in a meager army of 20 Red Pikmin, Ultra-Spicy Sprayed them, and activated the Man-at-Legs. They died. Quick. I restarted. Once. Twice. Thrice. On my fourth time through, I said "screw it" and decided to ignore the single casualty. First round was when my only Pikmin was lost - I forgot to call my Pikmin back before the Man-at-Legs (hereafter MAL) shook them off, and he scattered them all over the place. I was able to whistle to all of them, but one failed to get behind the cover I was using before it was mowed down. At this point, the MAL was stuck in a fairly predictable pattern - BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM *reload* BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM *rest* *repeat*. Knowing this, I struck at it during the resting periods, called my Pikmin back before it could scatter them, and hid behind the small barricade. Treasure GET! --- "If I don't live diligently, I can't die. So I will fight. Even if... I have no chance of winning." ~Shinji Ikari, RE-TAKE |

| Level: 43 Editor | Currently playing: Submerged Castle sublevel 4/5 Current mood: Wishing Summoner's Seal was back so I could play a less infuriating game For those who don't know, Submerged Castle has only 5 sublevels and only a handful of treasures, making it one of the smallest dungeons in the game. However, it comes at a price. Take too long on one of the sublevels and the Waterwraith appears. At which point, total hell breaks loose. The waterwraith looks like a cross between a ghost, a frog, and a steamroller, and he'll rush around the sublevel flattening anything in his way. The waterwraith is completely invincible, and his rampage makes it nearly impossible to do anything. I made it through 3 sublevels of this misery, I don't wanna do the last one. :( (At sublevel 5 you can finally kick his ass) --- "If I don't live diligently, I can't die. So I will fight. Even if... | Level: 43 Editor | Currently playing: with the Piklopedia Current mood: Intrigued, yet suspicious Due to a lucky setup (thanks, random dungeon generator!) and speed, I was able to beat sublevel 4 without the Waterwraith even showing up. Sublevel 5 was divided into two main parts: an arena, and a starting area. I deduced that the Waterwraith would not appear until I entered the arena, and I was correct. I quickly exchanged some of my Bulbmin (parasitic Pikmin that control mini-Bulborbs) for 10 Purple Pikmin and prepared to drop the Waterwraith like a mad beat. I entered the arena and with a crash the Waterwraith descended from the sky. I quickly circled around back and launched one of my Purple Pikmin at it, stunning it and allowing me to attack the mechanism it rides on. 3 rounds later, the steamroller is destroyed, and the Waterwraith is rendered harmless. It waddles around the arena, rest, and I take the opportunity to beat the living hell out of it. Treasure... GET! Pikmin lost: 2 Perplexing Pool complete! Onto the Wistful Wild... but first, the Waterwraith's Piklopedia entry. Waterwraith Amphibio sapiens Unknown family All that is know about this creature stems from a few sightings deep underground. All reported sightings feature the same core set of details: a giant, viscous form with a clear, hazy sheen not unlike hard candy. One theory holds that it may be the ectoplasmic incarnation of a kind of psychic phenomenon, but as is usually the case with such theories, it is very difficult to prove. All witnesses report being suddenly overcome with fear upon sighting the creature, approaching a state of panic and near insanity. In fact, every report contains an inordinate amount of extremely vague details, which has led to suspicions that exhaustion and fear have caused some simple natural phenomenon to be viewed as a living creature. --- "If I don't live diligently, I can't die. This massive item is actually a dumbbell weighing 1 kilogram, thus requiring 1000 Pikmin to carry it. However, you can only have 100 out at a time... What to do, what to do. | Level: 43 Editor | Feedback would be nice. :( Currently watching: Ghost in the Shell: Second Gig Current mood: Eager Dove into the Hole of Heroes, the game's largest dungeon and home to a high school reunion, where you find out all of your old friends grew up and became bosses. In other words, it's a gauntlet of every baddie you've already beat down. The first boss reunion, on sublevel 4, is the Snagret twins - a Burrowing Snagret and a Pileated Snagret, although you only have to kill the later. I chose my 20 Purple Pikmin strike team to take on the giant avian snake, and a few (dozen) restarts later, I managed to defeat it without losing any Pikmin. Sublevel 7 holds the Ranging Bloyster, an annoying little mollusk that requires you to switch between both your leaders quickly to win. The first time I fought this thing it annoyed the crap out of me, however, that time I didn't have Purple Pikmin. This time, with my strike team, I destroyed the Bloyster without a single casualty or reset. Sublevel 9 is a gauntlet within a gauntlet, where you must face every non-boss member of the Bulborb family - a Red Bulborb, a Hairy Bulborb, an Orange Bulborb, a Bulbear, and a Fiery Bulblax, as well as several little minion bulborbs. My strike team once again did most of the work, killing every enemy except the Fiery Bulblax, which can only be killed by Red Pikmin normally. So I traded in my primary strike team for my secondary strike team, a platoon of 29 Red Pikmin, which slaughtered the Fiery Bulblax. I was forced to use a few sprays to complete the level without casualties, though. Sublevel 10 holds a pair of mini-bosses, the Emperor Bulblax. Although the big baddie in the first Pikmin, these guys are pushovers in Pikmin 2, and my Purple Pikmin strike team wrecked them before they could even launch an attack. --- "If I don't live diligently, I can't die. | Level: 43 Editor | Currently watching: Aqua Teen Hunger Force Current mood: Contemplating taking off my sweatshirt Hole of Heroes completed with all treasures. Pikmin lost: 0 Sublevel 11 was a doozy. It contains the 3rd incarnation of the Empress Bulbax, a grotesque worm that spits out little maggots every few seconds. After trying to kill it normally about four times and failing miserably, I tried a new and cooler method, which lead to victory. Sublevel 13 was a rematch against my second most hated boss: The Man-at-Legs. However, despite being only able to use Blue Pikmin, I managed a win. Sublevel 14 was a rematch against another spider boss - the Beady Long Legs. This thing is one of the first bosses in the game, so naturally, I slaughtered it. Sublevel 15: the final level, and the only new boss. Well, sort of. You see, the big baddie of Hole of Heroes appeared in the first Pikmin game too, so I knew what to expect. The Raging Long Legs is a bigger, slower, purpler, uglier version of the Beady Long Legs. Despite a few initial complications*, my Purple Pikmin strike team eventually prevailed over the ugly thing. *My controller went haywire and the analog stick completely stopped responding. I had to switch out to a controller I NEVER use - I call it "clicky", because all the buttons make loud clicking noises when pressed. I got it free with my GCN, otherwise I would never have bought it. =/ Anyway... Treasure GET! Next up: The Final Dungeon: The Dream Den. | Level: 43 Editor | The game auto-saves before every sublevel. I generally reset if I get too many casualties - my reset point seems to be more than 5 primary Pikmin. Primary Pikmin are red, blue, or yellow, they can be grown normally; purple and white need to be created in a special way, so I reset if any of them die. And the game was created to be able to be beaten with 0 deaths. You're not supposed to care, but it tallies your death count, and there's even a challenge mode where the point is to win with no deaths. <_<; --- "If I don't live diligently, I can't die. | Level: 43 Editor | Currently playing: :D Current mood: :D Dweevils are evil little spider enemies that find any random item - treasures, enemy carcasses, etc, and assimilate those onto part of their body. This shields them from minor attacks until you forcibly remove the item. Dweevils can also let loose small elemental bursts - the Fiery Dweevil shoots flames, the Anode Dweevil uses electricity, the Casutic Dweevil spouts water, and the Munge Dweevil expels poison. There's also the Volatile Dweevil, which assimilates bomb rocks, then kamikazes into your Pikmin squad unless you're careful. So it's only fitting that the final boss be a bigger version of these new enemies. The Titan Dweevil is a massive spider capable of assimilating four items at once. It's also the final boss. The four items it chose were the Shock Therapist, a halogen light, the Flare Cannon, a propane stove, the Comedy Bomb, an insect poison thing, and the Monster Pump, a water faucet. As per usual, only one type of Pikmin is immune to each elemental weapon. Red beats fire, Yellow beats electricity, Blue beats water, and White beats poison. So I started the battle with the Titan Dweevil for the final time. Using an Ultra-Spicy Spray to boost my Pikmin, I awakened the boss, and immediately targeted the Monster Pump, the only weapon capable of hitting the entire field. Quickly deposed of, I hid my spares near the exit and launched an all Yellow Pikmin strike on the Shock Therapist, the only weapon that insta-kills Pikmin. After a few rounds, it fell, and I exchanged my Yellows for Reds. This time, the Flare Cannon proved to be a bit more difficult, as it has a nasty habit of hurting your leader. However, I soon prevailed, and exchanged my Reds for Whites to remove the Comedy Bomb. After the longest fight yet, it too fell, and my 30 White Pikmin made quick work of the now harmless Titan Dweevil. Pikmin casualties: 5 Treasure GET! x5 Fin. --- "If I don't live diligently, I can't die. So I will fight. Even if... I have no chance of winning." ~Shinji Ikari, RE-TAKE |

| Level: 43 Editor | Well, I've decided to beat the original Pikmin next on my run through my GCN library, and I must say, Pikmin 2 is better. In the original, Pikmin are amazingly dumb, the enemies are waaaay too intelligent for frogs/beetles/whatever, and Olimar is sooo slow. Should have beat this first. Would have felt less like a chore. >_> The game is still fun, though. Looking at my map after starting up the game, I noted that I had all the ship parts from The Impact Site and the Forest of Hope. It was day 17. For those who don't know, unlike the second Pikmin, your goal in the first is to collect 30 ship parts in 30 days (each day is about 15 minutes). There was one ship part left in the Forest Navel, so I decided to deal with that first. After a few resets getting used to the game, I marched some Yellow Pikmin to bomb rocks, and knocked down the two gates separating me from the last ship part. I got some more Pikmin and charged. The boss holding the ship part was an old friend - Beady Long Legs, who is much, much stronger in Pikmin than he is in Pikmin 2. He gave me some trouble, but I brought him down with roughly 25 deaths (Pikmin 1 was not meant to be played with 0 casualties. They're practically unavoidable.). For my troubles, I scored the Guard Satellite. With the first three areas conquered, I set my sights on the Distant Spring. I only had 1 ship part here, which meant 9 more were still in the area. I immediately went after the Massage Machine, the second easiest part to get. After unrolling a bridge with Blue Pikmin and defeating a Spotty Bulbear, I nabbed the part and collected some Bomb Rocks with my spare Yellows. I started knocking down a stone gate near the landing site with the Bomb Squad, and exchanged my Yellows and Blues (who had now delivered the part) for some Reds. After killing another Bulbear, I traded my Reds back for Yellows, got some more bombs from near the Bulbear nest, and took out the gate. The day ends. Next day, I took my Red Strike Team (60 or so Reds) to defeat a pair of Bulbears. I exchanged my Reds for Yellows, and lead the Yellows along a narrow path to the UV Lamp, which only Yellows can reach. Having retrieved that, I decided to boost my numbers, and had my remaining Yellows take the Bulbear carcasses back to the Onions. Having harvested about 60 new Pikmin, I got some more Bomb Rocks, and took out another nearby gate in preparation for two other ship parts. The day ends. Days remaining: 11 Parts remaining: 8 Currently reading: The Official Pikmin Strategy Guide Current mood: Hungry --- "If I don't live diligently, I can't die. So I will fight. Even if... | Level: 43 Editor | *Warning: This post contains spoilers for Pikmin* Currently eating: Dragonfly Wafer Sticks Current mood: :'( I beat Pikmin. Yeah, I said I was going to have writeups, but I decided to marathon it instead. I won't bore you all with the details of how I got all the other pieces in the Distant Spring, but I will tell you that it was day 23 when I took on the Final Trial. As per the advice given in my strategy guide, I devoted a whole day to simply clearing my way to the final boss. With that done, I took up an army of 70 Red Pikmin and 30 Yellows to defeat the Emperor Bulbax. I lead my Yellows to the Bomb Rocks, and then awakened the thing. He inhaled a bomb from one of my Yellows, I quickly called my Reds in from where they were idling, and I launched an assault on his face. He shook off my Pikmin, I whistled to them... and here's where things got ugly. With a flick of his tongue, the Bulbax ate roughly 60 of my Pikmin. At which points, all bets were off. I returned to the Onion and grabbed some more Reds, and this time, I was determined. With only minimal losses I got the Emperor into critical health. Which is when he decided to be a fucking whore and went "lol no point in ever using my attack that makes me vulnerable, I'll just jump all over the place and hope I hit you". Needless to say, Pikmin died. After a second trip back to the Onion, I decided I wasn't going to be this guys bitch, and I charged him. I dodged his jump, and launched a massive assault. There were casualties, yes, but he died. I sent my Pikmin to gather the four 5-Pikmin pellets he left behind, and returned to the Onion a final time to get more Pikmin to carry back the final treasure - the Secret Safe. By you, you can imagine I was running low on daylight. Indeed, the treasure was finally collected with only 4 seconds left on the timer. Olimar counted the money in his safe, determined that he'd buy presents for his children, bid his farewells to the Pikmin, and blasted off for home. As the Dolphin (Olimar's ship) blasts off, we see a Spotty Bulborb come in to attack the Pikmin who saw Olimar off... but unlike every other time Pikmin are shown under attack by creatures at night, they fought back and defeated the Bulborb. The view zoomed out with Olimar's ship, and it's revealed that the Pikmin homeworld is actually Earth. As the Dolphin vanishes, we see dozens of Pikmin Onions of all sorts of colors lift off to escort Olimar out of Earth's atmosphere... End. 1.
