| Level: 43 Editor | Note that I wrote most of these writeups at 3 AM while half-asleep. So they are not great literature. The opposite, really. Also note that I'm rating on a "House" scale. A 3/10 House episode is probably better than an 8/10 episode of some other show. =Season 1= Pilot - You know what they say, lead with strength, put your best foot forward, etc. Pilot is a pretty good episode with some really nice cinematography that isn't present in the rest of the series. We get to know the characters and a lot of the main concepts of the show are seamlessly introduced. Very nice. 8/10 Paternity - Another nice episode although if you didn't see the Pilot you'd probably be lost. I believe this is the first episode to have House make bets with his team (and Cuddy and Wilson) which I always get a kick out of, so props for that. 7/10 Occam's Razor - I _think_ this is the first episode to have the clinic duty play a main part, but the actual patient isn't very interesting. And the first 5 minutes of the episode always make me feel like I'm watching porn (that's a bad thing). 6/10 Maternity - The first episode of House I saw, I think. Either this or House vs. God (I hit the House phenomenon fairly late). However, it just isn't that great of an episode. Very little humor, too much Cameron, and it's hard to feel sympathy for newborn babies. 5/10 Damned If You Do - I love this episode for a number of reasons. Chase in particular is great here, comparing nuns to Nazis. Plus this is the first episode where Cuddy actually does something. The whole package just comes together nicely. 8.5/10 The Socratic Method - Another good episode! The patient here is awesome, and the kid is a source of constant hilarity. This is one of the few episodes that perfectly balances humor and drama. 8/10 Fidelity - Some awesome quotes in this episode but the actual case isn't great. I'd almost recommend just skipping the episode and reading its section on Wikiquote instead. 7/10 Poison - *hold envelope to forehead* Vogler, Stacy, and the mom from Poison. *opens envelope* Name three villains from season 1 of House. This is, in my opinion, one of the funniest cases. I mean, POISON PANTS are the culprit. Now we just need an episode about a Fire Face and a Knifehat (guest star Red Mage). 7/10 DNR - OMG FOREMAN'S GONNA LEAVE. Wait, no, like all plot arcs revolving around Foreman, this one is resolved quickly without anything changing. 4/10 Histories - Another cool episode, but I think it was done too soon after The Socratic Method. And the whole "patient is looking for someone named James, Wilson wants the patient to be treated, DO THE MATH wate no red herring lol" thing bugged me. Still, I like this episode. 7/10 Detox - One of House's Vicodin-less episodes. I'm actually a big fan of Detox. 8.5/10 Sports Medicine - Sports Medicine is an example of a House episode that's 90% humor, 10% drama. And I must say, I'm a fan. 8.5/10 Cursed - Another funny case. Plus it's a Chase episode. A DOUBLE Chase episode. 8/10 Control - Enter Vogler (We're all going to die). 5/10 Mob Rules - My favorite Vogler episode, by far. This episode is just awesome and has some of the best patients/patient families in the entire series. 9/10 Heavy - Robert Chase doesn't care about fat people. 6/10 Role Model - Bad: Actual case sucks. Good: House's speech is AWESOME. 7/10 Babies & Bathwater - EPIC CUDDY MANEUVER/10 Kids - Another fun episode that really shows off the brilliance of House - he deduces that a woman's husband is a crossdresser by looking at her coat, he figures out that a girl is craz by smelling her hair, etc. The actual case is cool too. 8.5/10 Love Hurts - For an episode about a really cool sexual fetish this case kinda sucks, and the House/Cameron date doesn't help. 4/10 Three Stories - Not a fan, honestly. *loses all credibility* Frankly I found the portions where House was talking to the class much more fun than the actual 3 stories. The first two stories are just meh, and the last one, while important for backstory, introduces The Devil (Stacy) and thus sucks. Ehhh... 6/10 from me, 8/10 in general. Honeymoon - Stacy is a main character here. What an awful way to end the season... 2/10 =Season 2= Acceptance - The season really starts off with a bang, as Acceptance is one of the best episodes in the series. There's a House vs. death row guy drinking contest, the five stages of dying, political commentary, and House manipulating Cuddy and Stacy both. 9.5/10 Autopsy - Another great episode although not quite as good as Acceptance. This is mainly a cool episode because of the effect the girl has on the team - Chase, Cameron, even House. Unfortunately this episode is sorely lacking in humor, and I don't especially like serious episodes. 8/10 Humpty Dumpty - Cuddy episode YAY! Too bad it sucks. 4/10 TB or Not TB - Besides having the best title of pretty much anything ever, TB or Not TB is just plain awesome. There's a healthy mix of humor and drama, and the House/Cameron relationship really evolves in this episode (not that that's necessarily a good thing). The House vs. Sebastian arguments are great and the episode as a whole is just wonderful. 8.8/10 Daddy's Boy - Aside from some humorous moments (guy mistaking Cameron for a hooker, etc), this episode is really uninspired and attempts to ellicit empathy for a random patient that we, quite honestly, don't care about. I usually skip this episode when watching House marathons. 3/10 Spin - Has one of the best segments in all of House ("You are healed. Rise and walk.") but otherwise isn't that great. Reminds me of a crappy Sports Medicine. 4/10 Hunting - The patient in this episode is awesome, but Hunting also started the stupid Cameron/Chase BS, AND was the beginning of the stupid House/Stacy BS. 2/10 The Mistake - I'm not a fan of these plotty episodes, especially the plotty episodes that tell stories (Three Stories), but it really is good, I just didn't like it too much. Was also the start of the "Foreman's in charge" plot arc... ugh. 9/10 in general, 5/10 from me. Deception - A decent episode but nothing special. I almost wish the patient in this episode would have become House's love interest instead of Stacy, but that has more to do with how much I hate Stacy. 4/10 Failure to Communicate - Yes. Yes yes YES. Awesome episode and it really displays how damn brilliant House is. Besides having the really cool "team split" which House likens to a parent leaving their children home alone, Failure to Communicate has one of my favorite "House epiphanies". If only Stacy weren't a main character in this episode... 9/10 Need to Know - What episode is this again? *reads summary* ...What episode is this again? Completely forgettable except for the Cameron related segments, which are Cameron related segments and thus suck. 2/10 Distractions - Another one of the awesome gimmick episodes, however, the treatment makes no sense - Foreman was completely right, the burn wound could have easily been a drop of hot oil or a screw. Not a huge fan of the main episode. But the House vs. Dr. Weber segment is great. 6/10 Skin Deep - IT'S A TRAP!! 8/10 Sex Kills - Another awesome gimmick episode but this one doesn't suck. It's a shame Ronald Neuberger (dead woman's husband) sucks. Luckily that isn't enough to keep this episode down, and it has one of the best clinic patients in the entire series. 8/10 Clueless - Funny episode. House vs. Cameron. And it throws us a bit of curveball compared to all the other "person is lying about something vital" episodes. It's just... not that memorable. 5/10 Safe - "You wake up in the morning, your paint's peeling, your curtains are gone, and your water is boiling; which problem do you deal with first?! None of them, the building's on fire!" 8/10 All In - YES. YES YES YES. Probably my second favorite episode in season 2. Everything about this episode is just plain awesome. 9.7/10 Sleeping Dogs Lie - This episode is only here because the sheer buildup of awesome caused by House vs. God immediately following All In would cause the univarse to asplode. 2/10 House vs. God - Possibly my favorite episode of the entire series. I mean, just look at the title. House vs. God. HOUSE VS. GOD. By the way, they TIE. The only real problem is that the actual medical parts of the episode are way too similar to Damned If You Do. 10/10 Euphoria - I'm counting this as one episode because it really is. It's just longer than usual. A bit too serious for my taste and the ending was a total cop out. But you can't deny its greatness. 9/10 Forever - After All In, House vs. God, and Euphoria, this episode just looks like a pile of crap. 3/10 Who's Your Daddy? - Oh dear, Hurricane Katrina victim. Aside from some great lines ("I thought I knew all of your friend.") this episode isn't too great. 4/10 No Reason - Another episode that's a bit too serious for my tastes, not enough humor. However, in terms of serious episodes, this really is the best by far. It also has one of my favorite lines from the entire series ("It's not real, and therefore meaningless. I want meaning.") And it reminds me a bit of episode 26 of Evangelion. 9.6/10 Season 3 to be rated some time in August (when the DVDs will probably be released). --- "Who are the Jews in this metaphor?" ~Dr. Chase Message last edited by Kenri of the Yuri on 4/6/2007 at 03:41:10 AM Message last edited by Kenri of the Yuri on 4/6/2007 at 03:42:17 AM |
