New Moderator
One of my friends, a girl, asked my other friend to prom, but only as friends. My friend, being a nice guy didn't want to say no, so now he's going with her. He doesn't really want to go, but he's already bought the tickets, so he basically begs me to go with him...I had no intention of going, but I might as well help a close friend in need.
Fast forward to now. One week away from prom, I already bought my ticket and had my tux fitted. My friend still has no intention of getting his tux.
He better not flake out...-_-;

The problem nowadays is that everyone seems to nonconform the same way. <_<;
That said, I've never been to a school dance of any sort, but I have been to dances and to schools, and neither are very pleasant. Mixing the two is right up there with gasoline + open flames on my list of good ideas. >_>

You're missing out. The last school dance I went to I had lots of fun: my date wasn't really my date at all (which is fine - as she so boldly told me, it's not like I can dance or anything), and we both dressed our best, which in retrospect was unwise, as I had my cane shattered. The highlight of the evening was a conversation in Italian with some foreign exchange student girl.

The better part of heterosexual (possibly homosexual too, I'm just not exposed to it all the time) relationships entail the transaction of money. It's hardly unique to prom.
The problem nowadays is that everyone seems to nonconform the same way.
A variation I've heard of this is: "In trying to be different, everyone else is the same." I think it's more accurate.

What books/intrawubs/whatever did you use to learn Italian?

I used three things:
1. Knowledge of Romanian.
2. Italian music.
3. Venice.
I can get the gist of some conversational Italian without actually knowing anything about the language.
