I'm a Literature/Writing Major in my second year and decided to take a Creative Writing course for obvious reasons. There was only one Creative Writing course open (I had basically the bottom of the barrel, as Freshmen choose last, and even then some Freshmen got to choose first based on their "majors"... for some reason) so I had little choice but to take the particular one.
I was a bit afraid as this was not the first Creative Writing course I had taken. I had selected one back in High School for my Junior year and was sorely disappointed to find the Instructor giving us very strict guidelines for what to write (effectively removing the "creative" part of the class). Though it was also one of the worst Instructors in my school (she has no interest in actually teaching and will get multiple student teachers so she can work on the School plays while they do her job for her) so I was hoping this class would be different.
To my dismay however, I found that the Professor puts massive restrictions on what you can and cannot write. Such as no Fantasy, no Sci-fi, no Horror, no Characters whom have Dialects, etc. Of course, to make matters worse the senile old bastard will not mention his restrictions half the time until someone has written a story violating one, then act as if he had set it on the first day.
For example, my first story was fantasy based comedy. A first person story from the perspective of a Lich who acts as a villain in an RPG. When we were assigned the stories he gave us absolutely no restrictions, though the following class he limited us to no Sci-fi. Fine and well, right? Well, after reading my story he said that we had went over this and there was no Fantasy (upon asking other students I found that I had not simply missed this, he only said no Sci-fi). He also claimed my story was horror because there were undead (so remember people, undead cannot be used for comedy ever!) and that I could not use the word "creation" to describe the undead monstrosities he had created, as it was reserved for works of art.
So needless to say I am not a fan of this guy. I put up with the class anyway though as I cannot drop it due to the amount of credit hours I have. I get by well enough, but this past week he opened our class with the statement "I bet none of you have been keeping your journals, huh?".
Now, he had never mentioned a Journal at any point in the course. As a result, not a single person had been keeping one. He then tells us that they are due next week, and that they were mentioned on the syllabus.
Now I thought I had read the syllabus, but considering my forgetful nature, assumed I had been wrong. So I was just preparing to start bull shitting journal entries from the beginning of the course and went to check said syllabus for the guidelines.
Now after reading the syllabus from top to bottom, I can say that Journals are not mentioned ANYWHERE on the damned thing. So now every student is stuck in a position of writing a journal for every day on a tight schedule because he never fucking assigned it.

It would be different if he wern't forgetful in his own rights, since i seen alot of senile teachers when i went to college as well but for the most part their senileness reflects their experience and good overall contro of courses and confidence in learning. but people that can't make things crystal clear to you are often shooting their own feet that way and that's what makes them hated in the same tone you're in right now,Dia.
As far as the course goes, it does suck when the course isn't always intended to be the way it is, but i would assume the reason it's called Creative Writing is to get use to writing in different universes like Sci-Fi and Romance when the teacher sets the mood up and gives helpful opinions.
