I did one of these for my GCN games a while ago, now I'm doing another one for all sorts of games.

Currently playing: Super Robot Taisen Original Generation (GBA), Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 (DS)

Recently beaten games: Advance Wars DS, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

First writeup in a bit.

Also: Don't post spoilers for a part of the game I haven't beaten yet. Even with a spoiler warning.

Playing: Joy Mech Fight

Progress: Area 3

Allow me to point out that not only does Joy Mech Fight really, really suck, but the translation patch I'm assuming is quite possibly the worst translation patch ever. The only things translated are the names of the robot masters, which aren't even translated coherently.

EDIT: I probably should've explained the heart system. Each character has three hearts. These take the place of rounds. When a fighter's HP bar is brought down to zero, they lose a heart and their enemy gains about 20% health. So the goal is to take out all three hearts - in simple terms, KO them 3 times before getting KO'd 3 times.

Anyway, I picked my opponent. His name was "Dry Deeocde" or something to that effect. Crappy translation is crappy.

I picked my fighter also - the translation patch calls him "Kit" which I assume is short for "Kit Fisto" because he's a badass and has two really cheap moves. One is a little fireball he throws (projectile attacks are bork'd in this game) and the second is a rapid high kick combo which does massive damage if you use it to cancel an opponent's jump attack.

So I start up the match, and I seem to be fighting another Cheap Fucker. Get used to this, as I affectionately refer to all enemies in this game as Cheap Fuckers if they happen to be Cheap Fuckers (which they usually are). This one has a nasty grab, and can summon raining fire which does a LOT of damage but is easy to avoid. He also has some nice range with his melee attacks.

Anyway, I take out his first heart, then he takes one of mine, then I take his remaining two. Fiery Cheap Fucker explodes.

Next I pick a robot master who looks like an anthropomorphic dragon. His translated name is YEDDDBDD. Yeah. I choose Kit Fisto again as my guy.

I start the fight and immediately notice that this guy who does one move, and man is it cheap. Essentially he throws 3 fireballs that reach across 9/10ths of the screen. I see virtually no way to dodge these if I'm in close combat when he uses them. Goddamn Cheap Fucker. I barely take his first heart before he takes mine.

I try to needle him with my projectile, but he hits me with a few more fireballs and breaks my heart. =(

For the next round, Draconic Cheap Fucker decides to dance around like an idiot instead of using his cheap move, so I waste him. One heart left.

Draconic Cheap Fucker has a second cheap move - an uppercut that cancels any of my jump attacks and slaughters me. He does this a couple times and I lose a heart because I'm careless. Then I kick his ass. Next.

Next robot master is named "Pilk" and is bright gold. Uh... okay. I select Kit Fisto again.

Pilk doesn't seem like a Cheap Fucker, he's more of an Annoying Fucker. Really, he just dances around and throws really wimpy attacks at me that I can dodge pretty easily. I take his first heart and have full health.

Pilk FINALLY does some damage to me, and learns how to avoid my cunning plan (throw a fireball, and when he jumps over it, I move in and nail him with my rapid kicks). He does some damage by dancing around, but I take his second heart without too much trouble.

Pilk uses a high jump/tackle move to take my first heart, but then I smash him to bits with my rapid kick. Next.

Next is floating skeleton man with blue orbs for limbs. You can't make this stuff up, folks. His name is VDEKPDCDD. gj translator. I pick Kit yet again.

This guy is good. Damn good. He has really amazing range, and a projectile that just slaughters me. He takes my first heart before I figure out how to hurt him much.

He takes my second heart, and almost defeats me before I figure out that jump attacks hurt him. I take his first heart but I'm pretty much dead. He kills me without much trouble. Let's try that again.

Next match, I choose Pinky aka Sukapon. Sukapon has the best projectile in the game, and it's what I'm going to use to kill this guy. He takes my first heart, but then I figure out how to kill him, and take his first heart without taking damage.

I take his second heart without taking damage as well. Sukapon FTW, almost as awesome as Kit.

Cheap Fucker Brand Rubberband AI kicks in and lets him take my second heart, but then I kill him. Nice work, Pinky.

I stop for the night. 3 robot masters left in area 3.

Selected my opponent, he's named SDER or something. I don't care. His fists are essentially bowling balls, but anyway. I select Kit. He jumps around like a retard, and I nail him with my fireball moves. First heart down. Second heart taken out the same way.

Turns out he has some jumping invincibility move and takes my first heart. Then I kill him.

Next enemy is YDOTKDD, who looks like a stupid toy robot. =/ I select Kit again.

This guy is FAST, and he has a projectile. Worse, he has some dash attack that trips me and is spammable. I take his fist heart using jump attacks and rapid kicks.

He takes my first heart, I take his second heart. Uneventful. I barely take his last heart before he takes my second.

I stop for a while.

Progress: Area 3

My last opponent of this area is PIKCADFKWDEV. Who looks like he's made out of really shiny metal. Anyway, I pick Kit. Time to kick some shiny metal ass.

Okay, this guy has a super-buffed version of my little fireball technique, with about 5x the vertical reach. Luckily, it's quite telegraphed, so I can jump over it easily and give him a kick to the face. I take his first heart doing just this.

Rubberband AI kicks in and the guy gets about 100 times more powerful, and takes my first heart. Argh.

I use my fireball move to take his second heart in a rather boring match. I pull some really awesome jedi BS to take his final heart. Seriously, I was kicking ass. :D

Boss fight time. This guy has a drill for legs and bowling balls for arms. I'm totally screwed. I choose Kit.

Or not. He has a nice projectile and decent range, but can't seem to figure out how to hit me without getting massacred by my fireballs and rapid kicks. I take his first heart, no sweat. I take his second heart the same way, though he does have a weird moonwalk attack that makes him invincible to projectiles. Hm.

In a close fight, he takes my first heart, and I quickly take his last heart and blow him up.

Next area?! Stage 4, top of the bad guy's tower. Ruh-roh.

Hmm... All the robot masters here seem to be advanced versions of my guys (who I actually captured after defeating in Stage 1). Ah well, nothing I can do about it.

I select KIE, the equivalent of Kit, and select Kit myself. Let the battle BEGIN!!

Yeah, this guy is essentially me. But I know all his moves, so I have the upper hand! Anyway, we trade fireballs for a while, and I take his first heart.

I bombard my evil clone with fireballs and take his second heart easily. Then he takes my first heart with some nice uppercut moves. Dammit, I need to figure out how to do those. We execute basically the exact same moves, but I'm a bit quicker, so I kill him. Next.

Next is Rodd, the equivalent of the fire dudes I've been fighting for a while. This guy is a Cheap Fucker. I haven't seen one of them for a while. He has the fire rain move, and a nice projectile. I just barely manage to take his first heart. And I don't know how it happens, but he kills me. Ouch, my pride.

As usual when I lose, I select Sukapon next. Projectile spam FTW.

...And he kills me again. His projectile is both faster AND stronger than mine, and unlike everyone else in this game, he isn't an idiot. Back to Kit Fisto.

Turns out walling this guy is quite effective, so I just continually defend and nail him with projectiles with time. Boring match, but hey, I won. =/

Next is DAT, the upgraded form of my team's CHAMP. I next Kit and predict an easy fight, as I don't think this guy has any range at all.

...Wow, I sure called it. Dat has no range at all, and he's constantly trying to get in my face. Tackles, rushes, jump attacks, the like. Luckily I can needle him with fireballs and keep him off-balance. I take his first two hearts.

Holy SHIT this guy's rushing uppercut does a lot of damage. I mean like 25%. Yikes. The Cheap Fucker takes two of my hearts before I figure out to block his uppercut and then pound on him with rapid kicks.

Next is EIYHD7, or Ei for short. He has shoulder mounted drills. I predict an easy fight, I think my version of this guy is a pushover.

One thing I will say about this guy - he is FAST. By the time my cooldown from throwing a fireball is over, he's already jumped over it and is attacking me. We trade blow and both lose our first hearts. We trade more blows and both lose our second hearts. ...Wow.

And then he just... quits. I pulverize him with fireballs while he walks into them like a moron. I'm sure he had a cunning plan, though.

Out of curiosity, I fight the evil form of Sukapon and end up winning. It wasn't very eventful, though, so you're not missing much by me not doing a writeup.

I stop for a while.

Beat Joy Mech Fight. No writeups since every fight except the last one was uninteresting, and the last boss was so goddamn cheap that I had to try about 20 times. Ultimate Cheap Fucker eventually went down to Kit Fisto after a thrilling battle on the moon. Best game ever? ...No.

Submitted a GameFAQs review for Joy Mech Fight.

Anyway. Phoenix Wright 3 doesn't lend itself to writeups, but let me just say that...

No, uh, we do want Maya back. I don't know what game you were playing, but Maya was actually a good female lead character and wasn't annoying like SOME female lead characters (cough colette)

Iris is a better girlfriend character for Phoenix, but Maya is still good.

Beat the Kasimir Ruins. My radishes matured and then there was no stopping me! Bwahaha.

Easiest boss ever. I only got hit like twice, and the hits only did like 1 damage each. Lawls. Plus it was slow even after it went into its 10% health superspeedy bankai form that all the bosses have.

On to Danaan Cave!

So Kenri, do you see it is worth buying? (Rune Factory) over another Harvest Moon game, if you really like the farming aspect more then the dungeon aspect? Or does the dungeon aspect make the farming aspect more fun?

Honestly, the other Harvest Moon game I've played is Friends of Mineral Town, so I can't compare RF to other games in the series as well as I'd like to. The dungeon aspect seems pretty much tacked on, considering you can blow through dungeons in about 5-10 minutes and there are only 8(?) of them. It does break up the tedious routine that seemed to manifest when playing FoMT, though, and having a story is nice (although the story is pretty weak, even by JRPG standards).

Farming is actually a non-factor in Rune Factory for the most part. You can make a lot more money a lot faster by mining. Crops are supposedly balanced out by restoring your rune points (stamina, essentially) on the day they mature, allowing you to plant them in the dungeons and use them as a half-way rest point. But this is largely negated by the fact that the dungeons are so short.

I could go on for a while, but I'm planning to write a review at some point, so I'll save it for that. If you have any more specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them, though.

Definitely worth buying IMO, but it is rough around the edges. Hopefully Rune Factory 2 will fix some of these problems.

Have I mentioned how much I hate these goddamn crop locks? Because I REALLY hate these goddamn crop locks.

There's another one in Danaan Cave (which isn't actually a cave since it's mostly outside with a few scattered cave-like rooms). Only this one is very selective about opening. I planted some crops, waited for them to mature, and it STILL didn't open. Apparently I didn't plant enough crops. So I'm still working on that, and progress is halted for a while while I grow even MORE goddamn sweet potatoes.

Anyway, Danaan Cave (which isn't a cave) is rich in Platinum, which is good, because it means I get to form new weapons. FINALLY my Forgery skill takes a jump, from about level 40 to level 68 or so. Right now I'm working on forging two nice swords - the Rune Sword, a one-handed sword that I'll probably use for the rest of the game once it's finished, and the Fourth Element, which is made by combining the highest level sword for each of the four elements. You'd think it would be called "Four Elements" or "Fifth Element", then, not Fourth Element, but whatever. That's a two-handed sword, and two-handed swords are inherently worthless, so I'm only forging it because I like the concept. It's almost as cool as the butcher knife sword named Heaven Asunder.

Danaan Cave (still not a cave) is also home to two monster drops I've been needing for a while (and at least one more after I get past the goddamn crop lock). Demon Blood is used for making certain pharmaceuticals, and in turn raising my pharmacy skill. And Magic Crystals are good for forging stuff. You'd think I could get Magic Crystals by mining, like every other crystal/mineral in the game, but no, monster drop only. And a spellcaster monster, too, which are hell to farm because they hit 20s on me instead of 1s.

I also hit the level cap while farming monsters for these drops. Level 99. Which actually sucks, because when you level up, all your HP is restored. So hitting the level cap actually made the game harder. Stupid game design there.

Anyway... I'm trying to get Super Mario Galaxy. By which I mean, I've asked my mom to pick it up for me, since she works like 5 minutes away from a Toys R Us. Stupid Veteran's Day apparently delayed all the SMG shipments, though, so it wasn't in stock today. Still, I'm going to get that $25 gift card, so help me god! *shakes fist*

Super Mario Galaxy GET!

Anyway. Played more Rune Factory this morning, but I don't remember what I did, since I've been playing SMG for the last, like, 8 hours.

Yes.

I have 41 stars, I believe. No writeups for everything I did, since like I said, 8 hours. I'm currently working on the Bedroom galaxies, though the next dome has already been unlocked.

Hate most of the gimmick stages, though. The manta ray racing, for example. It sucks.

But yeah, this isn't on Metroid Prime 3's level (yet), but then again, MP3 is one of my favorite games, so it's understandable. Still damn good. Mind you I liked Sunshine, but this is just better in almost every way.

I can't help but think how fun this game must've been to develop. I can just imagine a bunch of Nintendo folks sitting in a room, working on SMG...

"Okay, so you start out on a mushroom. Spaceship. A mushroom spaceship!"
"And then you jump off that, and the gravity pulls you to a trio of planets."
"And after you collect the 5 scattered pieces of the star jumping portal thing, you use it to hurl through space... until a black hole pulls you to a spaceship!"
"That spaceship? It should be the Dolphin, from Pikmin."
"And from there... you go to planet made of glass. That's hollow. With an internal network of caves."
"And if you feed the hungry Luma there, you get to go to a giant wooden Yoshi head!"
"A giant wooden Yoshi head infested with Goombas!"

I don't know what drugs these guys were on, but goddamn. Imagine being them. Great job or GREATEST job?

Up to, like, 80 stars. Maybe a few more, I dunno.

*various small spoilers not worthy of a tag*

Also beat the game at 60 stars. By which I mean, beat the final boss. The game was only half over at that point, or maybe 1/4th over.

So, about the suits:

Spring Mario sucks. Really, I've used this about once, and that was three times too many. This needed to be in the game a negative amount of times. Like, coded in, but never actually used.

Flying Mario rocks, especially visually. Red/black FTW.

Ice Mario is essentially Iceman or Rundas except without the flying. Best part - walljumping... between two waterfalls!

Fire Mario is great, except that it needs to not be timed. It should stay until you take a hit. And it needs some other way to throw fireballs besides by spinning. Cool, but disappointing overall.

Bee Mario sucks. The whole avoiding water thing is annoying, and losing normal jumps is awful, even if you can "fly" instead.

Boo Mario is awesome, needs to be in the game more. Definitely the best suit.

Rainbow Mario is, uh, invincibility. Meh. You also go SUPER FAST while invincible, so that's nice, but it isn't for very long and it's rare. I could take it or leave it.
