The University's Department of Public Safety is investigating a report
of a robbery that occurred on campus early this morning.
The victim, a male UNC student, told police that a black male approached
him at about 3:30 a.m. while he was walking between Wilson Library and
the W. Lowry and Susan S. Caudill Laboratories. He displayed a weapon
and demanded cash. The victim took out his wallet, which contained no
money. The suspect then struck the victim and fled on foot heading west
on South Road. Police conducted a search and their investigation is
ongoing.
Police describe the suspect as about 5 feet, 10 inches, 150 pounds to
160 pounds, and in his early 20s. He was wearing a navy blue hooded
sweatshirt and blue jeans. He may have scratches on his face.
UNC police ask that anyone with information that could help the
investigation to call 962-8100 or Carrboro-Chapel Hill-UNC Crime
Stoppers at 942-7515. All conversations with Crime Stoppers are
confidential; no one must identify themselves or appear in court.
University police also remind the campus community to be vigilant about

So I kinda found this amusing because two weeks ago our student body president was murdered (yea <_<) by some black guy as well and also because this town is fucked up like that.
Then we get this:
March 28, 2008 - 6 p.m.
University Police have determined that no robbery or attempted robbery
occurred on the University campus earlier today. Such a report was the
subject of a campus-wide e-mail safety alert late this morning.
Investigators have determined that the alleged victim making the initial
report to University police provided false information.
