It's amazing how many people suck in FB's Risk.

The prevailing strategy appears to be "sit around and wait until Europe overpowers you". In the game I just played, I even took the initiative and suicided into the European player, allowing somebody else to kill me and trade, only to watch as that individual took his winnings and... tried to conquer Australia.

Amazing.

Is this the same version as uh... I dunno... Standard Risk, I guess I'd call it?

Because if so... lol.

Australia is always the popular "turtle" spot, but it's a horrid tactical location to camp in, because you're inevitably going to get overwhelmed since you're getting almost nothing with the per turn reinforncements.

I've always found that North America, while harder to take over, is a much better location in Risk. It has only 3 locations to guard, with the added bonus that if you take over South America, it's still only 3 Spots to guard 2 continents.

And Europe? Doesn't Europe have like 6 or something territories you can attack it from? That's like... crazy. I mean, not as crazy as trying to hold Asia in Risk, but still not something I'd do if I didn't absolutely have to.

It is, more or less, "Standard Risk".

Europe should be a bitch to defend, but usually what happens is the Australian player doesn't want to get invaded by Africa and lose his meaningless two-army bonus, the North American player doesn't want to risk losing Greenland, and the African player believes Brazil is Public Enemy Number One and therefore pools all his resources in defending against it. Europe's biggest weaknesses are in Asia (Russia, the Middle East, etc.), and because credible powers rarely develop in that area it can generally sit around and cruise to victory without any worries. Africa and Australia are too concerned with losing their meager gains to do anything about it and the other two continents are either too far away to matter or embroiled in other conflicts that make attacking Europe a low priority.

Then there's people who have the ability to take out Europe and profit richly from doing so but decide to sit around and do nothing instead. Those people suck.

Australia sucks unless you can take over Asia, which is usually impossible, but if the other players are too busy fighting over North America or fighting amongst themselves, it's not that hard to swoop in and hold it for, like, a turn. (Because that's all you'll ever get.) And one turn is pretty good with that payout.
