There's not much I can say to defend or even condemn the teacher in question. I personally believe the prohibition on political discussion in public schools is horribly insidious, but then again this teacher's method of revealing her political preferences is offensive and not worth supporting. I do however find it hilarious that conservatives are trying to pigeonhole the presence of vocally liberal teachers in public schools into an argument for homeschooling, as if the political ideology of your teacher is in any way responsible for determining how well their students learn addition.

What interests me here is the documentary itself, which has subtitles in a non-Danish Scandinavian language - Swedish, I'm guessing - and some conversation at the beginning that doesn't sound Finnish to me at all. And yet this is a "Finnish documentary"? Every blog that mentions this seems to call it that. Unless those subtitles are the work of some crafty Swedish YouTuber, one wonders how much critical thinking is involved in the work of a group of bloggers that takes some writer's arbitrary guess at the language and runs with it.

EDIT:

Apparently the first blog to post on this story got the language right (Swedish), which makes one wonder about the BelchSpeak blogger's ability to read.

Perhaps I should have read the rest of the blog post before posting this; there are more lolz contained in the following:
She is also a lousy schoolteacher, as is evidenced by the mushmouthed kids in her class. And instead of concentrating on grammar and English, math and science, she abuses and ridicules any child who dares to speak up in support of John McCain.
Mushmouthed? Does the blogger mean to say he/she had trouble understanding these kids? That says a lot about the blogger, not much about the kids. It's also a pretty stupid leap of logic to assume that this is a "lousy" schoolteacher simply on the basis of this exchange - for all the blogger knows, the teacher's students have the highest test scores in her state and are already doing integral calculus. (Ha ha.) Hell, maybe the students even know Finnish.
