Basically, five people will enter in a drafting pool. One by one (in predefined order), each participant in this pool will choose one character from the list of selectable characters. There will be 40 characters available in all, so each participant will be able to select a total of 8.

Once this is done, the real tournament starts. The objective is to complete Hector Normal Mode (no Lyn Mode beforehand) as fast as possible (in terms of total turns used) using ONLY your drafted team of characters and a choice few that are allowed for everyone. The other characters you may not use (not even to support your characters with) except for:
- Meatshielding (without weapons)
- Rescuing non-drafted characters (but NOT characters you have drafted; this is basically so you can protect frail characters)
- Holding weapons and items
- Recruiting other characters

Another exception is that Matthew (and only Matthew) is allowed to open chests and steal items even if you haven't drafted him. You can still draft him normally to be on your combat team.

If you, for some reason, fail to abide by these rules, then you have to incur a four turn penalty for every character you've used for a purpose other than one listed above per chapter. This is four turns regardless of the importance or frequency of the foul committed.

During your run, you are expected to keep track of your total turn count and report often on your progress in some detail. If you don't, it might be mistaken for inactivity and thus grounds for disqualification. You are also expected to play fair. If you cheat, shame on you!

Gaiden chapters are, of course, completely optional (unless you need to recruit Canas, consider this carefully if you pick him for a draft), but since they will probably cost you quite a few turns, they're generally avoided. Do note that there's no limitations on using the "talk" command, so if you try to recruit Canas you can have a flier talk to Fargus to save on turns.

The first five people to sign up will enter a drafting pool. We'll randomly decide the pick order.

Characters allowed for everyone to use are Hector, Marcus, Merlinus and Athos.

Please note as well that if you pick Karla or Geitz, depending on the draft selection, they may end up being "blank" slots for you (as in, nearly impossible to recruit) due to the high levels required for both. Take that into account as you select characters.

Leaves you with a draft pool of the following (in order of recruitment):
Matthew - Oswin - Serra - Eliwood - Lowen
Rebecca - Dorcas - Bartre - Guy - Erk
Priscilla - Lyn - Kent - Sain - Wil
Florina - Raven - Lucius - Canas - Dart
Fiora - Legault - Ninian - Isadora - Rath
Heath - Hawkeye - Geitz - Wallace - Farina
Pent - Louise - Harken - Karel - Nino
Jaffar - Vaida - Nils - Karla - Renault

I'll sign up and when we get 5 we'll get together in a chat to roll dice or whatever the fuck for draft pick order.

We have a dice feature on TFN, actually.

2, 2, 3, 14, and 16

I am in if we get at least four, preferably five, people.

But I can't guarantee I won't suck. In fact, I DO guarantee the exact opposite. <_<

I have a feeling I'm going to get dragged in just to make the number requirements work, so I guess I'm in. Unlike Kenri though, I have a feeling 4 is a better number just because you sacrifice having every single character in the game selected in exchange for avoiding some of the trickier issues (Karla, Geitz, Harken/Karel arguably)

You could adjust by giving each of the 4 an extra pick or even two to use up all characters again (and once more introduce those issues). But eh. Not my call.

4 works just as well, we'd just get 10 picks each. We'll see depending on who else is up for this if anyone.

I somewhat doubt anyone else on the flux really cares, though the more the merrier.

Got the team I want in my mind. It consists more of favorites than people practical for the challenge, but I guess I should select the ones that would be better first in case anyone is taking this seriously. (Somehow I doubt it.)
Okay, let's do this. I'm totally just not even thinking about things in the interests of speed-running (in terms of real time, not optimal turn counts) just to get this over with! This could turn out great, or terrible! Let's find out together, shall we?

Chapter 11:
Hey, I get to use both Hector and Matthew. Let's roll!

Pretty uneventful, Hector and Matthew just roll to the left. Matthew gets the Red Gem while Hector guns for Wire.

Hector levels: HP, STR, SPD.

Chapter 11: 7 Turns.
Total: 7 Turns.

Chapter 12: Haha, I can use all 4 characters in Hector's group, but only Marcus from Eliwood's.

Hector levels. HP, STR, SKL.
Rebecca makes herself useful and gets the Secret Book (I've been told visiting and using shops is allowed)
Matthew levels. HP, Luck, RES.
Hector levels. All but RES.
Hector nearly gets himself in trouble, but Marcus saves the day and gets him out of there for a quick regroup. Silly Axes and their awful accuracy.
Matthew visits a store and gets 1 Iron Sword, Axe, and Lance.
Eliwood visits a shop and gets 2 Vulneraries.
Marcus ends up with the boss kill, I was hoping he'd miss once, so Hector could get it, but it's okay.

...I think that was 6 turns. We'll see at the end of course in case I make mistakes.

Chapter 12 Turns: 6
Total Turns: 13

Chapter 13: Since now Gaiden Chapters are forced outside 19xx... (thanks a lot guys) I am deprived of a genuinely interesting tactical decision for myself over whether to eat a 8 turn penalty for early Merlinus or to skip him and deal with it. I was leaning towards skip too, we could have had some interesting branching and differences in these runs, but the No Fun League stepping in to force me to do stuff. =(

So, we're after Guy here. I'm tempted to kind of send my flood of non-essential units towards Merlinus's village, but... Eh, maybe I'll just eat the extra turn or two to get him towards the end.

Marcus gets the Mine, which I will never use (I think), but hey, why not. Actually, no he will discard it, lol me.
Hector levels. HP, STR, SPD, DEF.
Matthew levels. HP, STR, SPD, Luck.
Guy recruited after I drop Oswin over to absorb his attacks.
Marcus levels. SKL, SPD.

It is at this point I realize I used Lowen to rescue OSwin to get him to Guy earlier, and augh penalties, and augh that rule.

Restart.

Matthew levels. SKL.
Marcus levels. HP, SKL, RES.
Hector levels. HP, STR, SKL.
Guy recruited again.
Hector gets the boss. and levels. DEF.
Rebecca gets the Mine.
Marcus visits Merlinus's village for the Bonus Chapter.
Lowen buys a Heal.
Hector seizes on Turn 10.

Chapter 13 Turns: 10
Total Turns: 23

Chapter 13x: god why am i even here. aughhhhhhhhhhhh.

Basically, Marcus is rushing to the village, and everyone else hopes they can defend the island without him. Oswin is circling to the left from the bottom. Hector and Matthew are holding the island's north, with occasional shielding from others like Eliwood and Lowen, while Serra heals. Guy stakes out the southeast corner for free EXP.

Matthew levels. HP, STR, SPD, Luck, DEF.
Guy levels. SPD, Luck.
Hector levels. HP, STR, Luck.
Serra levels. HP, MAG, DEF, RES.
Marcus makes it to the village.
Oswin levels. SKL.
Merlinus gets smacked by a Nomad. Serra forced to heal him because technically I can't rescue him with my non-critical units and augh. hurry back marcus we need you.
...And Guy dies because APPARENTLY HITTING A NOMAD WITH A 70% HIT RATE IS TOO DIFFICULT EVEN WITH TWO SHOTS AT IT.
Restart.

Same basic idea though because if Guy was not a failure things should have been okay.

Matthew levels. HP, SKL, SPD, Luck.
Guy levels. HP, SKL, Luck, RES.
Serra levels. HP.
Hector uses the Secret Book.
Hector levels. HP, STR, RES.

And then Merlinus dies. It's partially my fault because I intentionally left a path open, but I'm not any happier that apparently a Nomad could make it from the Fog of War to him and double.

Matthew levels. SPD, RES.
Hector levels. HP, SKL, Luck.
I make one adjustment here because i mad. Guy gets his Killing Edge for his job.
Guy levels. HP, STR, SPD, Luck, DEF.
Oswin levels. HP, Luck, DEF.
Serra levels. HP, SPD.
Hector uses Secret Book.
Marcus visits village.
Matthew decides getting hit by arrows is "in" and gets left at one HP.
Marcus decides to bail him out.
Guy levels. HP, SPD, Luck, RES.
Matthew levels. HP, Luck, DEF.
Hector kills the boss and levels. HP, STR, SKL, SPD, Luck.
And chapter over.

Chapter 13x Turns: 8 (lol Defend Maps)
Total Turns: 31

Chapter 14: ahahahaha erk and priscilla you are so on your own here

Okay, Marcus, you are going to lead a charge straight into the enemy cavalry. Destroy anything that moves.

Guy levels. SPD.
Hector levels. HP, Luck, RES.
Matthew levels. Luck.
Marcus levels. SKL.

...And now a pirate is retreating back over the ocean. That I can't cross. So restart.

Guy levels. HP, SPD.
Hector visits the village by Erk because why not.
Matthew levels. HP, SKL, SPD.
Marcus kills Erik on Turn 3. lolz. Marcus levels. SPD, RES.
Hector levels. HP, Luck.
Serra buys a Heal Staff and 3 Vulneraries.
Matthew levels. HP, STR, SPD.
...I think I won on Turn 7. It was the turn the rain stopped, the rain itself costing me two turns probably. We'll say it was 7, and again, at the end we'll see how wrong I was!

Chapter 14 Turns: 7
Total Turns: 38

Chapter 15: Or: In which Marcus is going to torch the boss before anyone can really do anything.

Oswin levels. HP, SPD, Luck.
Guy levels. SPD, Luck.
Marcus trolls the boss and levels. HP, RES.

...Wait a second, this chapter doesn't end when you kill the boss. ...Why did I think... Augh. Restart.

Oswin levels. HP, Luck.
Guy levels. HP, STR, SKL, SPD, Luck.
Hector levels. HP, STR, SKL.
Matthew gets the Silver Axe.
Oswin levels. HP, SKL, DEF, RES.
Matthew gets the Mend Staff.
Serra levels. HP, MAG, Luck.
Marcus levels. HP, SKL, Luck.
I don't get the boss because I make a lolz mistake with unit placement, but again, I am so beyond caring about this whole quest, so... Moving on!

Chapter 15 Turns: 8
Total Turns: 46

Chapter 16: Oh, Lyn's group. Just like Eliwood in Chapter 12 you guys are useless to me. Except you don't have Marcus. And that's just so sad!

Kent buys an Iron Lance and Javelin.
Sain buys 3 Hand Axes, an Iron Axe, and 2 Iron Swords.
Matthew levels. HP, SKL, SPD, Luck, RES.

Okay, Lyn's group is such a liability, I'm not sure what to do with them. Had Kent and Sain rescue Lyn and Wil and am trying to rush them west, but it's through enemies and I don't expect to succeed.

Matthew levels. HP, SPD, Luck.
Florina levels. HP, SKL, SPD, Luck.

And apparently it failed to occur me that Kent can't use a vulnerary. Restart.

This time I remember I can sell from the pre-battle screen and sell Eliwood's Rapier.
Wil buys 2 Iron Lances and 2 Javelins.
Lyn buys 6 (yes, 6) Hand Axes, 2 Iron Axes, a Steel Axe, and 2 Iron Swords.
This time Lyn's group hides in the SE corner, which successfully causes the enemies on their west to try to fight Hector's group.
Matthew levels. HP, SKL.
Guy levels. HP, SPD, DEF, RES.
Florina levels. HP, STR, SKL.
And Serra dies because I'm an idiot. Restart.

Lyn buys 2 Iron Lances and 3 Javelins.
Wil buys 5 Hand Axes, 1 Iron Axe, 1 Steel Axe, and 2 Iron Swords.

...It is at this point, dear reader, that I have a realization. I have Raven as part of my future team. Why then, did I allow myself to "skip" Priscilla? The answer, of course, is that I am an idiot.

...Restart the whole ****ing thing.

My team is about what I hoped for other than the unfortunate loss of Raven (which is my fault, I know, but I grieve anyway).

After getting a save file that has HNM on it from GameFAQs, I started up the ROM. My tactician is:

She will befriend everyone possible! I always pick April due to it being my birth month, but it actually works quite well here. Hector, Bartre, Erk, and Heath all have Lightning affinity, as I found out later.

Chapter 11: Another Journey

This chapter took four resets due to me being stupid with turns. Notable is the fact that I got a level with Hector my first run that was all but res. Unfortunately that was nine turns and I really did not want to keep it.

So Hector and Matthew are the only possible units. Matthew is irrelevant stat-wise to my game, he only exists to get items and open doors until Legault arrives. Hector starts off like this:

Whoo Hector, best lord in the game for me gameplay-wise. I can only recall one instance where he got oddly shafted, most likely because of my support set ups at the time. Wolf Beil is a nice item to start with, but at the same time I do not want to waste it. The Hand Axe's accuracy makes me want to cry though.

Turn 1: Matthew opens the locked door. Hector goes to the pillar with his Hand Axe equipped and attacks a soldier. The soldier dodges the first 84% hit to make me hate life and is hit by the second.

Enemy Turn 1: The soldier misses Hector and gets curb stomped by the counter.

Turn 2: Hector goes south with the Wolf Beil. Matthew retreats so he cannot be hit by the incoming archer.

Enemy Turn 2: The knight below attacks and hits for five damage before getting hit by two Wolf Beil strikes. Hector hits level two.

Can I have my almost-perfect level back? Please?

A soldier hits for two damage before dying to two counter attacks. The two archers hit Hector, two damage each.

Turn 3: Hector goes to another pillar and uses his Hand Axe on the unharmed archer. He takes one damage in return. Matthew starts to approach while staying out of range.

Enemy Turn 3: Both archers hit for one damage, leaving Hector dangerously low. The first dodges a Hand Axe hit, the second dies to the strike.

Turn 4: Hector and Matthew both advance as far as they can.

Enemy Turn 4: The archer tries to hit Matthew, but fails to connect.

Turn 5: Hector goes forward, equips his Wolf Beil, and uses a Vulnerary. Matthew unlocks the door near the treasure chest.

Enemy Turn 5: The archer hits Matthew for eight damage. He has ten hit points left.

Turn 6: Hector moves fully forward and is nearly at the boss. Matthew opens the chest to get a Red Gem.

Enemy Turn 6: The archer misses Matthew.

Turn 7: Hector attacks Wire to do sixteen damage out of twenty-five, Wire misses.

Enemy Turn 7: Wire misses, Hector kills with the counter attack.

No speed, but good otherwise.

This was annoying to figure out, but with only two units it goes by quickly.

Total turns: 7

Chapter 12: Birds of a Feather

A huge amount of characters join here. Eliwood, Rebecca, Bartre, Dorcas, Lowen, Marcus, Oswin, Serra, that's eight new characters. And guess how many I get to use? Marcus due to him being a default and Bartre, who I got as the last character left. lolololol.

So here's the two new goons I get:

We all know how Marcus works. It'll be interesting to see if he gets any decent stat gains by the end of this. Iron Sword is good, Silver Lance is an alarm button.

I forgot this guy started at level two. Bartre often ends up in my team due to wanting to recruit Karla, and he actually winds up being really good for me. So I don't mind getting him thrown at me. Iron Axe and Hand Axe are good starting items.

This only took me one try. Somehow.

Turn 1: Dorcas gives his Iron Axe to Bartre to avoid accidentally counter attacking. Bartre advances. Lowen trades his Iron Sword and Iron Lance to Marcus before following Bartre as a potential meatshield. Rebecca starts towards the village. Eliwood sells his Rapier for 3000 gold since only he can use it and I can't use Eliwood. Marcus rushes forward with an Iron Sword equipped. Oswin retreats to where Matthew and Serra are. Hector moves onto a forest. Matthew and Serra trade between each other and Oswin so none of them are equipped with items they can use.

Enemy Turn 1: A brigand hits Bartre and then gets hit with his Iron Axe. Another brigand hits Hector, but...

First critical hit of the game! Hector with Wolf Beil at a 7% chance. Conserving those weapon uses like a pro! Hector hits level four from it.

A+ level would take again.

A Hand Axe brigand misses Hector, and an archer hits Bartre.

Turn 2: Bartre kills the brigand he was fighting. Marcus kills a mercenary with an Iron Lance because if he didn't, there's a high chance Bartre would die to said mercenary. Dorcas and Lowen advance as a back wall for when Bartre needs to retreat. Rebecca visits the village to get a Secret Book. Eliwood moves forward a bit but is of little use. Wolf Beil attack on the brigand does some damage, but Hector gets hit back.

Enemy Turn 2: A pegasus knight hits Marcus but gets killed in one hit. He gets a whopping nine experience (in comparison to the three experience the mercenary gave him). A pegasus knight misses Hector and gets killed in one hit. A third pegasus knight goes after Hector thinking this is a brilliant idea.

It did not seem so brilliant after this happened.

An archer shoots Bartre to leave him at five hit points. Another archer shoots Marcus.

Turn 3: Bartre moves to Eliwood, trades for his Vulnerary, and uses it. Marcus kills the archer who hit him with two Iron Sword hits. Lowen and Dorcas take a step back but prevent the archer from hitting Bartre. Another pegasus knight dies to one Wolf Beil hit. Hector hits level five.

Son of a monkey!

Enemy Turn 3: A brigand tries to hit Hector with a Hand Axe but misses. He was retreating last turn (forgot to mention) so I have no idea why he came back. Zagand tries to hit Hector with his Steel Axe and succeeds with a 34% hit rate. Hector of course misses with a 54% hit rate in retaliation. A brigand misses Marcus and gets killed. The archer below shoots Dorcas.

Turn 4: Hector goes into a forest to use a Vulnerary. Bartre attacks the archer from a fort. Marcus moves up with an Iron Lance.

Enemy Turn 4: The Hand Axe brigand misses Hector. The archer misses Dorcas. Zagand hits Hector with a 33% hit rate but Hector hits with a 77% one thankfully.

Turn 5: Marcus hits Zagand with an Iron Sword, dodges the counter attack, and hits again to kill him. Hector uses a 44% Hand Axe and actually kills the brigand. Bartre kills the archer.

Easy chapter due to charging Marcus always being an option. I have no idea how Zagand always gets so lucky though when fighting Hector.

Total turns so far: 12

Chapter 13: In Search of Truth

Guy is the only new unit and I am not allowed to use him. I would like to recruit everyone possible so I am still trying to do so. His Killing Edge is a nice bonus.

This took two tries because in the first run, an archer messed me up by moving in front of the boss when Hector needed to reach him. Even without that it was inevitable to take seven turns or more. This second run was much better.

Turn 1: Dorcas trades for an Iron Axe from Bartre. Bartre runs into pegasus knight range since he cannot reach the snag from his starting position. Eliwood, Serra, and Lowen form a trading chain to give Hector the Iron Axe. Everyone else gets closer to going south. Marcus runs forward and...

Second critical! Iron Sword wielding Marcus with 7%.

Enemy Turn 1: A brigand attacks Marcus even though he could attack Hector. Marcus shows him why this is a terrible idea by dodging and killing him in two hits. The pegasus knight successfully gets lured out by Bartre and misses him. Bartre barely leaves it alive and hits 99 experience just to make things more silly. An archer misses Marcus.

Turn 2: Bartre kills the pegasus knight and hits level three.

SPEED. THIS IS INSTANTLY AN AMAZING LEVEL.

Marcus kills an archer in two hits. Lowen runs back to Bartre while everyone else advances.

Enemy Turn 2: A cavalier hits Marcus with an Iron Lance.

Marcus was very displeased and had his horse kick the other silly horse in the face. Along with stabbing the enemy with an Iron Sword twice. Weapon triangle, what's that?

An archer shoots Marcus and does no damage. Marcus hits level two from this somehow.

Speed means I'm okay with this.

A second archer hits Marcus for no damage.

Turn 3: Bartre hits the snag with his Iron Axe. Lowen gets on the other side of it. Marcus kills an archer in two hits and is now in Guy's range. Everyone else advances. Hector is put within range of the second pegasus knight.

Enemy Turn 3: Guy misses and Marcus hits him for fifteen damage, leaving him with six hit points. Hector takes no damage from the pegasus knight and somehow doubles to kill it. lol pegasus knight constitution. A Hand Axe misses Marcus and an archer hits Serra.

Turn 4: Matthew talks to Guy. Guy retreats. Bartre knocks down the snag with another hit, Lowen rushes over it. Hectot trades his Hand Axe to Marcus and attacks the Hand Axe brigand with his Iron Axe. He gets hit and is left at 99 experience to mock me. Marcus rescues Hector and rushes forward. Eliwood rescues Guy... somehow. Everyone else retreats.

Enemy Turn 4: A soldier misses Matthew. A cavalier and Marcus miss each other. An archer hits Marcus for no damage, the Hand Axe leaves him at one hit point. Matthew dodges Hand Axes from two brigands. The archer by Serra attacks her again but misses.

Turn 5: Marcus equips an Iron Lance before dropping Hector in a forest. Lowen visits the northern village for a Torch and to unlock 13x. Oswin takes Guy from Eliwood. Matthew retreats. Dorcas moves onto a mountain and rescues Matthew. Eliwood visits the other village for a Mine. Rebecca gets on a mountain and Serra stays in the forest.

Enemy Turn 5: The archer Marcus hit retreats to use a Vulnerary. Eliwood gets stabbed by a soldier. Hector decides to be hardcore at seeing his friend hurt. A cavalier tries to attack him...

BLUE CRITICAL LIGHT OF DOOM. Third critical is from Iron Axe wielding Hector with a 3% chance. Hector hits level six.

Why so much resistance?

Another cavalier attacks Hector. He dodges and hits him. Eliwood dodges two brigands using Hand Axes and an archer, miraculously being hit by none of them (though he could have lived all three I think).

Turn 6: Marcus attacks Boies with a Silver Lance. He hits, dodges a counter, and hits again to kill. Hector seizes the throne.

This chapter sucks because you still have a lot of useless units in your party. Having to keep them alive gets irritating. Getting Guy is somewhat annoying, but in almost every scenario Marcus can successfully lure him.

Total turns so far: 18

Okay, I really need to try to restart this before this feeling I'm having a rather hard time describing passes, because if I don't, I suspect I'm just going to drop out of this.

Chapter 11.

This time I shall name my tactician Nergal. I'm skipping story scenes, but just the idea might help bring a smile to my face.

...

...

...

Ahahahahaha, after what just happened? i doubt it

Hector levels. HP, STR, DEF.
Hector kills the boss and levels. HP, SKL, DEF.

Wire apparently asked me (after all who else could he mean by Lord Nergal) to forgive him, but after that whole Priscilla/Raven incident, that word is not in my vocabulary and we move on.

Chapter 11 Turns: 7
Total Turns: 7

Chapter 12:

Eliwood sells his Rapier, buys 2 Vulneraries.
Rebecca gets the Secret Book.
Matthew dies because dodging is a really difficult skill. Restart.

Eliwood sells his Rapier, buys 2 Vulneraries.
Rebecca gets the Secret Book.
Hector levels. HP, STR, Luck, DEF, RES.
Matthew levels. HP, STR, SPD.
Hector kills the boss and levels. HP, STR, SKL.

Chapter 12 Turns: 4
Total Turns: 11

Chapter 13:

Okay, first time around here my turn count was awful. Let's try something new. Everyone is going west instead, and Hector and Matthew are just fording the river flat out. Flanking maneuver!

Matthew misses on attack phase Turn 2 though and dies on the counter because he's Matthew. Restart.

Then Matthew opens Enemy Phase Turn 1 by missing twice at 76% on that same Peg Knight. Well, we're just going to roll with it. Oswin will bail him out, and put it at 1 HP and against my expectations Matthew finally hits it. Third time's the charm.
Lowen visits Merlinus's village while I anticipate Matthew's incompetence has doomed this mission, but let's see.
Matthew buys a Heal Staff.
A bandit destroys the Mine village.
Lowen buys 3 Hand Axes and a Javelin.
Matthew levels. HP, SPD.
...And Matthew dies. Dammmit. Restart.

Lowen visits Merlinus's village.
A bandit destroys the Mine village.
Eliwood buys 1 Hand Axe.
Oswin levels. HP, STR, Luck, DEF.
Marcus kills the boss and levels. STR, Luck.
Matthew recruits Guy.
Rebecca buys 2 Hand Axes and a Javelin.
Hector seizes on Turn 6.
Okay, let's keep this moving.

Chapter 13x:

Because Hector has decided to miss SPD every time so far on this run, going to have to make a slight adjustment to keep Marcus on schedule.

Matthew misses like an 81% chance and gets hit by a 2% crit. thank you matthew. Restart.

Unfortunately, because 13x is an awful chapter, I see no way to avoid having to assume Matthew actually wants to see Chapter 14, so we're just going to try that again.

...And he misses the exact same 81% chance again. However he has the good sense not to test my wrath further and "merely" is hit normally.

Matthew levels. HP, Luck, DEF. you know, pretty much every stat he just critically failed on
Marcus visits the village.
Guy levels. SKL, SPD, Luck.
Guy misses a 92% chance hit, though it hasn't technically killed him. yet
Guy levels. HP, STR, SKL, SPD. god why does he get rewarded for the above ****?
Matthew levels. HP, STR, SKL, SPD, RES. WHY DO THEY ALL GET REWARDED FOR THIS ****!?
Hector levels. HP, SPD, DEF. thank you hector
Serra levels. MAG, SPD, DEF.
Oswin levels. HP, Luck, DEF.
Marcus kills the boss, because he thought a proper way to spend Last Turn Enemy Phase was to attack Marcus. Whoops. Marcus levels. HP, RES.
Map over.

Chapter 13x Turns: 8
Total Turns: 25

Chapter 14:

Before the Chapter - Sell Red Gem, Hector uses Secret Book.
*Checks Rank*
Oswin: "Yes! Spectacular! You amaze me, Nergal. We do well to count on you." (why i'm sure he'll never regret saying that)

Okay, okay, guys last time we were here we had a bit of an... issue... regarding recruiting Priscilla. We are here to rectify that error. now don't mess it up

Marcus kills Erik and levels. SKL.
Guy levels. HP, SPD.
Hector levels. STR, Luck.
Serra buys a Heal Staff.
Hector actually retreats because there's one enemy left, and Hector will kill him on enemy phase if I leave him there. So, this is officially costing me turns now.
...Apparently I did not retreat far enough. ...How can a bandit cover that much ground in the rain? Augh. Restart.

...Maybe I can make an adjustment with Marcus to get him to get Erik and be closer to Priscilla, but I'm not sure that'll work.

Hmm, this is looking pretty promising, but I may need to break out Guy's Killing Edge to get a cavalier that's by Priscilla's village. Though I suppose I could also get him with Marcus if Marcus can in fact get there in time.

...In light of that, I think I might go pick up Erk for the lolz, because Serra won't have much better to do, though theoretically she could heal Guy once maybe.

...Did Guy just get hit by a pirate? Really? After that conversation?

Marcus did you miss on the one enemy you could not afford to?

...

You know what, fine. I'll show them all and just keep going. I've got this

Erik decides to chase Marcus (and at this point I don't think this will work thanks to Marcus being incompetent) This doesn't end well for him.
Marcus defeats Erik and levels. STR.
Serra recruits Erk (lololol)
Matthew buys a Heal Staff.
Guy levels. SPD, DEF.
...Okay, I think Marcus's incompetence actually cost two turns, so I'll restart. Just because I'm that annoyed at that entire sequence of incompetence by basically everyone on this army.

Marcus and Hector both missing on the same archer might cost this run. dammit. Also, thanks Erk for not taking him out for me either. these guys are your enemies too

Marcus kills Erik, but I really think this attempt is doomed. Marcus levels. HP, SKL.

...Yeah, this is basically over, but may as well see if somehow I make like 10 uninterrupted criticals.

But to add insult to injury, Erk finally attacks that Archer. he is lucky he is an npc...

Restart because things have deteriorated beyond a point of no return because hitting things is really hard.

What I did learn though, is that my current Marcus plan probably needs 6 Turns to develop, not 5 like I thought initially.

Now, I could send Marcus to Priscilla first and leave the rest of the army to take on Erik and his army. ...Probably a disaster waiting to happen, but let's see it once at least. Only difficulty is that I must defeat Erik before Peg Knights spawn.

Hey, 3 turns in and they're still alive! I even made an error too!
Marcus buys a Heal Staff.
Damn, Guy tanks Erik, but then dies to a mercenary. Restart

...I'm actually going to attempt this strategy one more time, with a modification on Marcus's route. Though I think it's much more inefficient.

...Made another error. this will end hilariously

...Guyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

god why did i forget to switch to killing edge for him.

Guy tanks Erik and dodges a cavalier that would have finished him. As a side note, almost positive now that this is slower than Plan A where Marcus does this job.

let's see this through though

Hector kills Erik and levels. HP, STR, DEF.
Guy uses a Vulnerary.
Marcus recruits Priscilla.
Priscilla buys 4 Iron Swords, 2 Iron Lances, and 2 Iron Axes.
Matthew levels. HP, SKL, SPD, Luck, Res.
Priscilla buys a Heal Staff.
Guy uses a Vulnerary.
Guy levels. HP, Luck.
Hahaha, I would have won on Turn 7. Not bad for such a lolz strategy. Restart.

I've plotted out a totally new Marcus course that is a lot more dangerous for everyone else in the army but I am INSPIRED by Guy's MVP performance in that last run, so we're going for it! I think this path makes 5 turns possible. Maybe.

...Except Erk might literally derail this plan by standing in the wrong spot.
FE7 GPS: Recalculating... Recalculating...
...I think he literally derailed this. Well, sure, why not see what happens, after all 6 turns is acceptable since I kind of resolved to that being the case.
Okay, this path is getting derailed hard now.
Hey, Matthew, we need to have a chat here. I know this attempt is pretty screwed, but that doesn't mean you can just miss twice with an 86% hit rate. Okay? It's bad for team morale and my will to play this game
Matthew crits. HP, SPD, Luck, DEF, RES. ...Okay, Matthew, now you're just trying too hard.
Marcus kills Erik and levels. STR, Luck, RES.
Guy levels. HP, SPD, Luck, RES.
Okay, yeah, this path is not going to work. Restart.

Back to my initial strategy. Marcus goes right down the center, Hector takes North, Guy and Matthew head south. Oswin mostly hangs back to get those soldiers at the start location because he's too slow to catch up to the others.

XD Marcus crits Erik on Enemy Phase 2. Trollin'. This doesn't actually help me in any meaningful way, I believe, but whatever. Marcus levels. STR.
...Oswin misses a cavalier at 70%. I think, "Sure, no big deal. Matthew can get him." Matthew misses twice at 71%. ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha oh you guys are so funny dkljsghfdghf
Hector levels. HP, STR, SPD, Luck, DEF.
Marcus recruits Priscilla.
Serra buys a Heal Staff.
I let Guy kill that cavalier, the last enemy on the map, because Oswin and Matthew don't deserve it.
Guy levels. STR, SKL, SPD, DEF. Guy you are as a light in the long, dark night that is this army
I am so going to place last in this, I can tell.

Chapter 15:

Matthew steals a Lockpick because he can.
Oswin levels. HP, DEF, RES.
Guy levels. HP, STR, SKL, SPD, Luck.
Matthew gets the Silver Axe.
Guy levels. HP, SPD.
Matthew gets the Mend Staff.
Marcus kills the boss and levels. HP, SKL, RES.
Serra levels. MAG, SPD, Luck, RES.
Chapter over.

Chapter 15 Turns: 8
Total Turns: 39

Chapter 16: Okay, we've effectively caught up with to where I was the first day. Let's see if I can not screw up from here.

Wil buys 2 Iron Lances, 3 Javelins.
Lyn sells the Blue Gem she came with, then buys 5 Iron Swords, 3 Iron Axes, 5 Hand Axes, 3 Steel Axes, 3 Steel Swords.
Matthew levels. HP, SKL, SPD, RES.
Guy levels. HP, RES.
Matthew gets the Red Gem.
Marcus then fails at being competent and prompts me to restart.

Wil buys 2 Iron Lances, 3 Javelins.
Lyn sells the Blue Gem she came with, then buys 5 Iron Swords, 3 Iron Axes, 5 Hand Axes, 3 Steel Axes, 3 Steel Swords.
Matthew levels. SPD.
Guy levels. HP, SKL, SPD, Luck.

Also, in a lapse of thought, I misplace Sain/Kent, causing one merc to come after them, but I'm not super worried about it. In theory I should win before that becomes too problematic.

Matthew gets the Red Gem.
Hector levels. HP, SKL, DEF.
Guy levels. SPD.

...I apparently had a bigger lapse in judgment regarding Kent and Sain than initially assumed. I apparently forgot to disarm this time. Regardless of the fact that Kent missed. augh. Restart.

Wil buys 2 Iron Lances, 3 Javelins.
Lyn sells the Blue Gem she came with, then buys 5 Iron Swords, 3 Iron Axes, 5 Hand Axes, 3 Steel Axes, 3 Steel Swords.
Forgot to Weapon Switch on Marcus, watch this cost me.
Matthew levels. HP, SPD, Luck.
Well, only change Marcus made was the Thief attacked him instead of Guy. ...Which doesn't seem awful. Marcus missed, anyhow.
Matthew gets the Red Gem.
Hector hitting will now cause me problems. He has 3 Hand Axe uses, and practically needs all 3 on the rest of the Enemy Phase.
Guy levels. HP, STR, SKL, Luck.
Hector levels. HP, STR, SKL, DEF.
Yep! Now we're more blocked in than before. Let's see if I can escape this. I want to try and preserve Guy's STR level if possible.
That Thief steals a vulnerary from Oswin.
...Oh ****. I forgot to heal Guy, didn't I? Well, he's a pro. If there's anyone in this sorry excuse of an army I would trust with this, it's Guy.
Guy levels. HP, SPD.
Guy refuses to let me down, just like I knew he would!
Kent gets the Heavy Spear.
Marcus kills the boss.
Matthew levels. HP, STR, Luck.
Florina levels. HP, STR, SKL.
Hector seizes on Turn 5.

Chapter 16 Turns: 5
Total Turns: 44

Chapter 17: Hey, finally somewhere new (relative to this tournament)! Good news, that means it'll be more interesting. Bad news, it's also an escort mission thanks to Priscilla/Raven. Also, we need to ensure Port of Badon, but that really should not be a problem.

Before the chapter: Sold Red Gem

I've also got quite the decision here. I should probably have the time to get either the Hero Crest OR the Knight's Crest, but not both. But it might be possible through use of keys. Well, it's worth a shot!

Oswin levels. HP, SPD, DEF.
Marcus levels. HP, SKL.
Matthew steals a Door Key, which Oswin promptly takes, because Oswin's job is to attack the lower left treasure room.
Guy levels. HP, STR, SPD, Luck, DEF.
Hector levels. HP, DEF.
Florina levels. SKL, SPD, Luck.
Oswin opens the lower left treasure room.
Priscilla recruits Raven.
Marcus uses a Vulnerary.
Marcus misses on the boss, denying a potential Turn 7 win, however, I'm willing to allow Turn 8, so we'll continue for now.
Hector kills the boss and levels. HP, STR, Luck.
Oswin gets the Hero Crest.
...I think Raven missed 3 of 4 hits at 80+. I'm a little sorry I didn't confirm the exact %.
Oswin gets the Unlock Staff.
Matthew gets the Knight's Crest.
Hector seizes on Turn 8.

Chapter 17 Turns: 8
Total Turns: 52

Chapter 17x: Well, this will be trivial!

Before the Chapter: Sold Red Gem

...I think 3 turns is theoretically possible, but I'm not seeing a safe way to pull it off unless you aim for 4, which is my plan for now.

Florina recruits Canas for the Secret Book.
Serra gets the Devil Axe.
Florina gets the Short Bow.
Florina gets the Sleep Staff.
...Uh oh. Why did I think Fargus would let you do that as long as you canto'd out of that area? This'll be funny now. Florina is SO screwed.
Oswin levels. HP, DEF.
and there goes florina. Figured that would happen! Restart.

Florina recruits Canas.
Serra gets the Devil Axe.
Florina gets the Short Bow.
I intentionally aggro everyone now, because I can get Oswin more EXP this way by engaging the Black Fang, and a free level before promoting him.
Oswin levels. HP, SPD, DEF.
Raven levels. HP, Luck, DEF, RES.
Guy kills the boss, because I'm pretty sure Oswin won't level from it, and I plan on promoting him very, very soon. Guy levels. HP, STR, SPD, ...RES, I think.
Florina talks to Fargus on Turn 4.

Chapter 17x Turns: 4
Total Turns: 56

Chapter 18: yay a ship. More importantly though, a chapter that we can end by destroying a boss!

Before the Chapter: Hector uses a Secret Book.

Mission Objectives: Speedwings, Guiding Ring, Misc. Items. In that order. Really want those Speedwings.

Guy buys 2 Heal Staves, 2 Lightning.
Serra buys 4 Iron Swords, 2 Javelins, 4 Hand Axes, 1 Steel Axe, 1 Steel Lance.
Florina levels. HP, SPD, Luck, DEF.
Marcus gets the Guiding Ring.
Raven gets the Red Gem.
Florina gets the Longsword.
Matthew gets the Speedwings.
Raven gets the Pure Water.
Marcus kills the boss on Turn 3 and levels. HP, SKL, Luck.

Chapter 18 Turns: 3
Total Turns: 59

Chapter 19:

Before the Chapter: Sold Red Gem. Hector uses the Speedwings. Oswin promotes at Level 14, 23 EXP, for the extra +1 Move.

Hector levels. HP, STR, SKL, SPD, DEF.
Serra levels. MAG, Luck, RES.
Raven levels. HP, SKL, DEF, RES.
Florina levels. STR, SKL, SPD.
Raven uses a Vulnerary.
Matthew levels. HP, SPD. Also gets the Torch Staff.
Florina recruits Fiora because hey, she has items I can use!
...Okay, this is getting dangerous. A Nomad just tried to ambush Florina, but she is a certified pro. I'm kind of devoting everyone not named Marcus to fall back and keep the rest of the army from destroying itself.
Raven levels. HP, STR, SPD.
Serra uses the Torch Staff and I hope it can show Uhai. ...Naturally, it is one tile short.
Marcus misses Uhai and sacrifices a potential Turn 5 win. Still, given how my main goal is finishing this, we're going to play on. This, of course, being the reason why I'll place last overall.
Marcus levels. SPD, Luck, RES. I think. Definitely got SPD.
...Well now, this has just gotten very interesting. Marcus misses AGAIN, this time at like 80%-ish. Turn 6 isn't dead yet, but now he NEEDS to dodge a 55%-ish hit from Uhai to survive and counter. Mind you, Florina could rescue him and run, but she'd have to dodge Longbows, and it would cost 2 turns if I did it.
Well, what do you know, Marcus did it. Marcus levels. STR, SKL, RES.

Chapter 19 Turns: 6
Total Turns: 65

Chapter 19x: Or in which we try and airdrop over the mountains and pray things don't go terribly.

Okay, Plan A didn't work so well because I didn't think Bolting could drop Florina to 1 HP. And that's not the only guy on the field. Restart.

Florina fails to dodge Bolting again, but dodging the other mage suffices.
Matthew levels. HP, STR, SPD, Luck, DEF.
Guy levels. SKL, SPD (Max), Luck, DEF.
Oh, hi Kishuna!
Matthew chats with Renault for a Goddess Icon.
Marcus denies a Turn 5 victory by missing at 70%. Again.
Oswin levels. HP, STR.
Serra levels. MAG, SKL, Luck, RES.
Marcus kills the boss and levels. HP, STR, SKL.
Hector seizes on Turn 6.

Whenever you guys get a chance tomorrow, I need a ruling on whether I can be my usual self and abuse an enormous loophole. If I'm allowed to, I can get 4 turns on C16. 3 is probably even possible if you're really luck. <_<
I like to think of Dragon's Gate like a halfway point. ...It makes things more comforting to me to know it's halfway over.

Chapter 20:

Before the Chapter: Raven uses a Goddess Icon.

Florina levels. SKL.
Hector levels. SKL, SPD.
Oswin levels. HP, SKL, Luck.
Hector levels. HP, STR, SKL, SPD.
Serra uses Unlock to open the door to the boss.
Raven levels. STR, SKL, SPD.
Marcus shows off his overwhelming competence by being unable to double Darin with a Hammer, and being one STR short of being to kill via double w/ Silver Lance. This does mean if I restarted and took a Silver Axe, I'd be okay, but aughhhhhhhhhhhhh. There's a reason I'm going to lose this and I'm sticking by it.
Hector kills Darin and levels. Luck.
Well, so here we are on a turn I should not be on. Again. How will we make use of this? Oh. Hey. Legault? Is that you? How have you been? What's that you're holding and is flashing, ready to be dropped? A Barrier Staff you say? Hold a minute.
Marcus. Make it so.
I meant to do this after Dragon's Gate, but whoops. So here it is now instead.

Hector
Level: 15, EXP: 26
HP: 31
STR: 16
SKL: 14
SPD: 12
Luck: 8
DEF: 17
RES: 2
Comments: Hector has finally started getting speed lately, so he's become less useless, but prior to that he existed solely as a burden to be ferried to seize locations.

Marcus
Level: --/11 , EXP: 16
HP: 37
STR: 19
SKL: 21
SPD: 13
Luck: 11
DEF: 10
RES: 13
Comments: Marcus is my favorite paladin. Marcus is my least favorite paladin. On a serious note, Marcus has angered me more than any unit on my team. Hell, more than the rest of the team combined. He exists solely to make me waste turns.

Matthew
Level: 9, EXP: 83
HP: 25
STR: 8
SKL: 5
SPD: 16
Luck: 6
DEF: 5
RES: 1
Comments: Matthew is pretty useless too, however, that I am allowed to use him means his SPD can go up and he can continue to get items for me. I guess that's nice. He's not awful either, but he pretty much needs a Steel Sword to be relevant. In fact, Steel Weapons are practically my new best friends.

Oswin
Level: 14/3, EXP: 48
HP: 39
STR: 17
SKL: 12
SPD: 10
Luck: 6
DEF: 20
RES: 7
Comments: I treat Oswin as like a one turn nuke, in that, if there's anything by my start location that needs doing, he does it, and then he's useless the rest of the chapter. This isn't as true now that he's promoted and the others aren't, but I still kind of gravitate to this use. Oswin also goes on solo missions in completely different directions from the others if needed.

Serra
Level: 6, EXP: 26
HP: 17
MAG: 7
SKL: 6
SPD: 11
Luck: 10
DEF: 3
RES: 9
Comments: 374 EXP to go...

Guy
Level: 14, EXP: 25
HP: 28
STR: 12
SKL: 18
SPD: 20 (Max)
Luck: 10
DEF: 9
RES: 2
Comments: MVP! MVP! MVP! Guy is the most competent unit in this entire army. The only problem is his relative lack of movement compared to Marcus. Anything Guy can reach though, he can kill.

Florina
Level: 9, EXP: 42
HP: 20
STR: 8
SKL: 13
SPD: 13
Luck: 11
DEF: 5
RES: 6
Comments: Florina dodges everything. Except the things she doesn't need to. Or Bolting. She's probably a prime candidate for early promotion because her EXP opportunities are lower than I'd like thanks to often getting stuck with the task of ferrying Hector around.

Raven
Level: 10, EXP: 38
HP: 29
STR: 10
SKL: 13
SPD: 15
Luck: 5
DEF: 7
RES: 3
Comments: Raven is pretty competent too, but not Guy-tier or even close.

Chapter 22: Oh, Eubans is in the corner on Hector mode? I forgot that. Aww...

Serra unlocks the right door with Unlock.
Florina fails to make a bunch of crazy dodges she really had no business making anyway. Restart.

Slightly different plan, Florina opens the right door Turn 1 with a Door Key.
Serra unlocks the left door with Unlock.
Matthew steals a Lockpick. I will regret not attacking with him
Matthew levels. HP, SPD.
Lyn recruits Rath because HE IS NOT A HELPER.
Florina levels. STR, SKL, Luck, RES.
HEATH! YOU JERK! I LET YOU LIVE INTENTIONALLY! AND HOW DO YOU REPAY ME!
AND SERRA! YOU ARE NOT OFF THE HOOK FOR THIS! ****ING DODGING? HOW DOES IT WORK? FLORINA HAD A STR LEVEL! YOU CAN'T ****IN' DO THIS TO ME!
Restart.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, the basic idea was working. So let's try that once more.
Florina opens the right door with a Door Key.
Serra unlocks the left door with Unlock.
Matthew gets a Lockpick.
and now matthew back to his old ways. dammit heath, if you didn't have an axereaver, guy wouldn't be coming at you with Iron and Steel Weapons, I'd flip over to the Killing Edge or even break out the Wyrmslayer.
Restart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Florina opens the right door with a Door Key.
Serra unlocks the left door with Unlock.
Matthew steals a Lockpick.
thank you matthew.
Restart.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Florina opens the right door with a Door Key.
Serra unlocks the left door with Unlock.
Matthew steals a Lockpick.
Matthew levels. SKL, SPD, Luck, DEF.
...Okay, that was not as planned. Thanks NPC unit for dying there and letting Florina nearly die. You may have ruined the attempt.
Lyn recruits Rath, because I blame him for the NPCs being failures, clearly they look to him as an example, so it's imperative to get him away from everyone so they can look to my more competent army as examples instead.
Okay, thanks to that whole NPC disaster, Raven is getting a bit of a test right now. His mission? Take on this entire room, which includes a Swordreaver. No problem, right?
Actually, I gave him some surprise backup with Hector, but the Swordreaver is still there. Hector gets the Knight's Crest out of the deal too.
Raven levels. HP, SKL, DEF.
Eubans isn't mobile? ...Augh.
Eliwood recruits Heath after nearly being killed by him.
Matthew gets 10,000 Gold.
Florina levels. HP, SKL, SPD.
Marcus gets a useless crit on Eubans on Turn 4 to win. Marcus levels. HP, SKL, SPD.
Chapter 22 Turns: 4
Chapter 23: Or, in which my strategy is "Pent. DO EVERYTHING."
Matthew gets the Ocean Seal.
Guy levels. HP, SKL.
Hector recruits Hawkeye.
Serra levels. MAG, RES.
Oswin levels. HP, SPD, RES.
...Oh my god.
Pent just walked right into the middle of the two bosses. That level of pro deserves my utmost respect.
Florina levels. HP, SKL, SPD.
Pent eliminates one boss on Enemy Phase with a crit because its existence offended him.
THEN ON NPC PHASE HE ATTACKS THE OTHER AND ONE-SHOTS WITH ANOTHER CRIT!
MAP CLEAR!
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TURN IT IS BECAUSE HOLY ****
PENTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
I think it was Turn 4, so we'll say that for now, and again, at the end we'll find out.
Pent: You really helped me out. Thank you.
Hector: Didn't really feel like we did much.
You. Are. A. GOD!
Pent: That's not true. Magic tomes don't last forever, you know?
AND NEITHER DO BANDITS!
Before the Chapter: Sold Ocean Seal, Knight's Crest. Florina uses the Afa's Drops and Angelic Robe (I was indecisive over who would get it earlier)
Lloyd, being the most WORTHY OPPONENT in the entire game, crits and kills Marcus. Restart
****************************
This did clue me into one thing I had not assumed. Lloyd is mobile. This can work to my benefit.
Hector levels. HP, SKL.
Florina misses a 70+% chance on Lloyd and dies. Restart.
****************************
hitting things is a very difficult skill.
Hector levels. HP, RES.
Florina kills Lloyd and levels. HP, SPD, Luck.
Florina gets the Elysian Whip.
Oswin levels. SPD, Luck, RES.
Farina finally shows, unfortunately, I must now delay my victory by a turn because she is the one who talks to you.
Matthew levels. HP, SPD, Luck, DEF, RES.
Hawkeye seizes one point.
Marcus seizes the second.
Florina levels. SKL, RES.
...
...
Florina did you just miss on the last monk? The one who chose to attack you from the seize point?
Hector recruits Farina.
This really leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but Florina is going to temporarily retreat again. augh. Wasting a turn.
Oswin levels. HP, SPD, RES.
Florina grabs the last point on Turn 7. Augh.
Chapter 28x: Or - In which Florina and Farina attempt to seize MVP Status.
Before the Chapter: Sold the Heaven Seal. Farina uses the Boots*
*I did not save after this so I can experiment with who gets this in case this plan doesn't work.
Farina: This is it! This is what it all has led to! Now is the time! Onward, TO VICTORY!
I've been hoping to attempt this for almost the entire playthrough now. I'm going to run Florina and Farina right down the middle of the level carrying Hector and take Sonia out before they even know wtf happened! Farina is armed like a tank with Iron Sword/Silver Lance/Brave Lance/Javelin/Elixir. Florina on the other hand, being the one to ferry Hector is much more defensively minded. Iron Sword/Javelin/Elixir/Delphi Shield/Pure Water.
Serra uses Barrier on Farina.
Oswin levels. HP, Luck, DEF.
Sonia targets Farina.
Farina levels. HP, SPD, Luck.
Florina uses Pure Water.
Oswin levels. HP, STR, SPD, DEF.
Florina uses Pure Water.
Farina uses an Elixir.
A Devil Axe user destroys itself trying to attack Florina.
Florina levels. HP, STR, SPD, Luck, RES.
I *could* take a win here at a turn cost. Farina needing to take that second Elixir caused her to not be able to attack Sonia on Turn 4, requiring her to rely on making one of 4 13% Crit chances on Turn 5 Player Phase with the Brave Lance, which is actually about a 43% chance, but alas. However, for once, I will not do that. Not here. This is where a legend will be born. Restart.
*********************
This time we're coming with a backup plan. Hypothetically, had Florina had a Silver Lance, she could have finished Sonia that time, but I never envisioned Florina as a combat unit in this mission. That changes now. She doesn't need that Iron Sword for this, swapping for Silver Lance.
Serra uses Barrier on Farina.
Oswin levels. HP, DEF.
Florina uses Pure Water.
Florina uses an Elixir.
Farina uses an Elixir.
Harken levels. HP, STR, Luck, RES.
Farina levels. HP, SKL, DEF. I think.
Things kind of went downhill once a Devil Axe somehow hit Farina. It's Florina who suffered for it though. Restart.
****************************
Serra uses Barrier on Farina.
Oswin levels. HP, SKL, RES.
Florina uses Pure Water.
Florina uses an Elixir.
Farina uses an Elixir.
Harken levels. HP, DEF.
Florina levels. HP, SPD, DEF.
Farina levels. SKL, Luck.
Hmm... Florina got hit twice that Enemy Phase. Probably going to doom the attempt, because I will not heal her.
Haha, now Farina gets a crit on Sonia during player phase (4), but since she didn't get a STR level, Sonia lives it. No big deal either way, the moment of truth will be Enemy Phase Turn 4 as it always is.
Yep, Sonia goes after Florina and hits her with Bolting. Restart.
****************************
Serra uses Barrier on Farina.
Oswin levels. HP, SKL, RES.
Florina uses Pure Water.
Florina uses an Elixir.
Harken levels. HP.
Farina levels. STR, SPD, RES.
Farina dies because she pretty much absolutely can not get hit by that Devil Axe pirate without things going off the rails. Restart.
Florina uses Pure Water.
Florina uses Elixir.
Harken levels. HP.
Farina levels. HP, STR, SKL, SPD, Luck.
Farina uses an Elixir.
Hector levels. STR, RES.
Hector got hit by a 29% chance and Florina by a 33% one. They both lived though.
Harken berserked.
Matthew steals the Angelic Robe.
Farina fails to crit on her 4 Brave Lance attempts.
However...
[You hear a faint voice from the distant past in your mind]
This time we're coming with a backup plan.
Florina: EXECUTOR, I STAND READY!
Florina kills Sonia and levels. HP, SKL, SPD, Luck.
Marcus levels. HP. Luck.
Hector seizes on Turn 5.
Hector: So what's the strategy here?
PONY37: we have gone over this so many times
Hector: What? No we haven't.
PONY37: we have gone over this so many times
Hector: What are you talking about? We just got here.
PONY37: WE. HAVE. GONE. OVER. THIS. SO. MANY. TIMES.
Hector: Okay, ignoring you now. We'll be moving forward and mercilessly slaughtering anything red; if we screw up, you have no one but yourself to blame.
PONY37: we have gone over this so many times
[MARCUS grabs HECTOR and tries to punch through the enemy lines with the help of SAIN, LOWEN, and KENT, the latter two of which take turns ferrying MATTHEW. ELIWOOD picks off any enemy stragglers, while PRISCILLA wishes that PONY37 had never learned that she can survive one hit from just about any enemy on the map. She also recruits RAVEN. DORCAS picks off everyone in the lower left room and helps himself to treasure. PONY37 warps in on HECTOR.]
PONY37: OKAY
Hector: GOD!
PONY37: Yes I am. Are you done talking about things that don't involve killing the boss?
Hector: It's really surprising slash terrifying whenever you warp in on me like that.
PONY37: ...So that was a no, then.
Hector: ...
PONY37: ...
Hector: I am done now.
PONY37: Thank you, Hector. But I'm really here for Marcus.
Marcus: Greetings, tactician.
PONY37: go fuck yourself
Marcus: What?
PONY37: Force of habit, I'm not sorry at all. The plan here is basically to kill the boss.
PONY37: ...
PONY37: In one player phase.
PONY37: ...
PONY37: WITHOUT DYING YOURSELF.
PONY37: do you think you can fucking handle that for me, marcus.
Marcus: Absolutely.
PONY37: ...
PONY37: I find your optimism... infuriating.
PONY37: AND NOW I AM NEEDED ELSEWHERE
[PONY37 warps in on MATTHEW and LOWEN.]
Lowen: It's in the right chest.
Matthew: No, it's in the left chest. I'm a thief. I know these things.
Lowen: I really think-
PONY37: Shut up, Lowen.
Matthew: Thank you.
PONY37: You shut up also. I hate you both. It's the left chest. It's ALWAYS the left chest. i swear i am going to toss you both to the wolves if i have to explain this again.
Matthew: You've never-
PONY37: MATTHEW
PONY37: I DID NOT DRAFT YOU
PONY37: YOU HAVE TWO USES TO ME. OPENING CHESTS, AND DYING SO THAT OTHER UNITS DO NOT.
PONY37: CHOOSE. WISELY.
Matthew: ...
PONY37: ...
Matthew: I think I'll open that left chest now.
PONY37: YOU HAVE CHOSEN
PONY37: WISELY
[PONY37 warps in on MARCUS.]
Marcus: Greetings, tactician. As I suspected, I was able to one-round the boss with little difficulty.
Hector: You should have a little more faith in our abilities, PONY37.
PONY37: ASDFGHJKLASDFGHJKLASDFGHJKL
Hector: Err... PONY37... are you...
Chapter 17x
PONY37: Raven, you are going to immediately become useful to me.
Raven: Why's that?
PONY37: Because I didn't draft you or Florina, thus Florina can rescue you.
Raven: But that makes no-
PONY37: CLEARLY USING TWO NON-DRAFTED CHARACTERS TO ACCOMPLISH A STRATEGY IS MORE LEGIT THAN USING ONE DRAFTED AND ONE NON-DRAFTED, RIGHT GUYS?
Hector: ...So what should we-
PONY37: Kill Damian, he'll be arriving shortly. Other than that, stand around and try not to piss off Fargus. Or me, for that matter.
Canas: i'm here also
PONY37: ...
PONY37: good for you.
Turn count: 4
After-action report: Now that the chapters are becoming more complex, I figured I'd give an actual (brief) summary for each one.
This chapter is pretty simple. We get Canas, finally, which is nice, because his attacks tend to pack more punch than anyone except Hector or Marcus right now. He can't do much for me here, though. Eliwood heads north to solo the easy mode pirates for free EXP. My other characters visit houses while trying not to provoke Fargus' wrath. Damian is way too tough for the majority of my units to take down, by which I mean only Marcus, Hector, and possibly Eliwood are up to the task. Hector was closest, so he did it, while the cavaliers mopped up the rest of Damian's party. Florina dropped off Raven at the end of turn 3 near the vendor, then grabbed the Sleep staff on turn 4, provoking Fargus' wrath, but by that time Raven can just go talk to Fargus and end the chapter. Before that happens though, some of my units take potshots at Fargus' super pirates for free EXP. I ended up missing one house, but I think it would be prohibitively difficult to get it in 4 turns without losing a unit.
Chapter 18
PONY37: so many goodies
PONY37: Marcus, go kill the boss. Sain, take Matthew and trail him, make sure Matthew steals those Speedwings. Everyone else, you're either on shop duty or heading over to the second ship and killing everyone there.
Party: Got it.
Boss: LUNA, lol
PONY37: oh no, a boss fight that's based on luck
PONY37: if only i had some experience with that
PONY37: ...
PONY37: asdf
Turn count: 3
AAR: Very straightforward Marcus rush works best here. Notably, Matthew steals a Pure Water on turn 1, and the rest of my units collectively kill everything with an item drop on the east boat. I had an amazing run here my first attempt, level wise, but I accidentally dropped Matthew in the wrong direction and he could not steal the Speedwings. I actually would have considered going with it anyway, but then Marcus got critically hit by Luna and died. My next attempt was almost as good anyway, though in hindsight I should not have killed the boss on the player phase, because it denied Canas/Lowen some EXP from other enemies suiciding against them. Oh well.
Chapter 19
PONY37: Dorcas! Smash down those snags.
Dorcas: One STR short.
PONY37: ............
PONY37: welp, there goes our 4 turn win. it was a really nice idea we had there for a while.
PONY37: Dorcas, I would trade you to Epyon right now for a tin of assorted nuts. You are that useless to me.
[FIORA arrives.]
Fiora: I'm here now!
PONY37: YOU
PONY37: JOIN ME RIGHT NOW
Fiora: okay
PONY37: finally
PONY37: we almost have enough good units in the party
PONY37: to make up for also having dorcas
Turn count: 5
AAR: Well, I was relying on Dorcas to break down those snags to attempt a turn 4 Marcus win, but he was one STR short, and I didn't feel like going back to C18 and attempting to manipulate a STR level up for him. In hindsight, Hector or even Marcus himself might have been able to manage it with different movements. In other news, Fiora joins here, which is fantastic for me, but like Canas she's not immediately useful, so I just had her pick off some pirates as best she could. Canas and Eliwood head east from the starting point to kill everything over there, while the cavaliers mostly head south to mop up everything Marcus does not. A turn 5 win here involves Marcus not getting critically hit by Uhai, while a turn 4 win would most likely involve Marcus having to crit Uhai during the turn 4 enemy phase... unless you could manage some shenanigans with torches, I dunno if that's possible or not. I really should have retried this chapter, but whatever, 5 turns still pretty good.
Chapter 19x
Hector: So how are we gonna do this? That boss' Bolting will fry anyone who gets near him.
PONY37: At the end of turn 3, a being will appear and nullify his magic.
Hector: Excell-
PONY37: We have to kill him before that happens.
Hector: What.
PONY37: Which is faster, fighting an enemy who's just trying to dodge or fighting an enemy who is clinging to a 20 pound book?
Hector: that's like a good point.
PONY37: you'll be fine.
PONY37: fiora's the one who should be complaining
Fiora: wait, what
PONY37: FIORA
PONY37: YOU MUST DRINK WHATEVER I GIVE YOU NEXT
Fiora: ...i don't like this plan
[PONY37 feeds FIORA a PURE WATER.]
Fiora: I feel like I could take on the world!
PONY37: would you say that
PONY37: you've had all you can stands and you can't stands no more?
Fiora: ...
Fiora: no.
[Despite that strategy going perfectly (except for the part where HECTOR steals a lot of EXP, but oh well), we still nearly lose.]
Dorcas: Axereaver pegasus knights hurt a lot and are hard to hit.
PONY37: That's why you were supposed to fucking dodge the other two pegasus knights, you complete moron. Now stop being braindead, back up a square, and toss your handaxes at it.
[DORCAS whiffs twice.]
PONY37: goddammit you are the dumbest person in a sea of dumb people
Dorcas: i'm just following your orders
Dorcas: i mean if it was up to me, i'd have just eaten a vulnerary, guaranteeing our success.
PONY37: ...
Dorcas: ...
PONY37: ...
Dorcas: ...
PONY37: ...
Dorcas: ...
PONY37: ......................
Turn count: 4
AAR: If you rescue Hector with a cavalier on turn 1, you can then give him to Fiora (or Florina, if you're using her instead) on turn two. Fiora can then, on turn 2, drop Hector on a mountain within striking distance of the boss. If she ate a pure water, she doesn't have much to fear from any nearby enemies, and Hector can wipe out the mages and knights thanks to his terrain bonus. As long as the boss is weighed down with Bolting, Hector should be able to one-round him quite easily on turn 3. I sent Matthew after the village, and as mentioned above, Dorcas fought the three pegasus knights, though he nearly died because of equal parts him being worthless and me being dumb. Luckily, the Pegasus Knight chose to retreat. As a bonus, I was able to rush Marcus to one of Kishuna's snipers on turn 4 and drop it into kill range for Fiora, which netted her about 100 EXP at zero risk.
