I'm not kidding about the The Blog Network thing, either. You've been warned. (The important? part is at the bottom if you just want to scroll down, I wouldn't blame you if you did.)

So in less than a week I'm heading off to a four-year university, moving away from home for the first time. It's a big step, though it's also long overdue so I can't very well claim it's sudden or anything. Trying to get ready has been a hassle and so far I've done pretty much everything wrong in terms of putting it off until the last minute.

Related: I'm not sure how much I'm going to be around for a while. Probably less than usual until I get settled in.

Anyway, I've got a mental checklist (which would probably be more useful as a physical checklist) of things I need to do before I go. Some of it was stuff like "find a place to live" which was pretty important, thankfully this is taken care of now. Some of it is stuff like "tell my family that I'm bisexual in case they end up visiting me at some point and WHOOPS I HAVE A BOYFRIEND". I'm 99% sure they'll be supportive but it's still something that I'm irrationally nervous about.

There's also one thing on this list which concerns you guys, and it's another case where I haven't been entirely truthful. This doesn't have anything to do with me going away to college, but I honestly should have come clean about this a long time ago so saying it now is the least I can do.

When I joined GameFAQs, which is where I met some of you, I was 12. But you needed to be 13 to register, so the obvious solution there was that I just said I was 13. Then this just kept going long after it ceased being relevant just because I didn't want to look like a liar (THE SOLUTION WAS CLEARLY MORE LIES MIRITE SITCOMS?) Anyway, the point is, I'm a year younger than I've previously claimed.

Related to that: my parents were (understandably I guess) concerned about their 12-year-old son using internet message boards and what not, and had that "don't reveal personal information" talk with me. Which I took to heart because it seemed reasonable. But it's now completely irrelevant because I'm an adult and also because everyone online has access to everyone else's personal information anyway. My point here is that I might've said, at some point, that my name was like Ken Becker or something. It isn't. That was just an easy pick because my screen name is Kenri. My name is actually Peter Racco. Some of you might already know this because I did a piss poor job concealing it, but there you go. Now I'm out in the open about it. (please still call me kenri or ken or something i will not know how to respond if you call me peter)

So... yeah. Hopefully this isn't a big deal, but it is a case where I've been lying to some of you for nearly 10 years, so if you want to be pissed at me I'd completely understand.

tl;dr: I am a year younger than I said I am and my real name is not what I've said it was in the past, and I'm really really really really really sorry for lying about this because it was a completely stupid thing to do that served no purpose in the long run.

That's fine? I mean, I lied too about my age because I signed up when I was twelve too, I didn't think it was something serious. XD And I'm used to people never telling me their names so you don't really have anything to apologize to me for, but if it makes you feel better then I forgive you I guess?

This doesn't seem like a big deal at all. I also joined GameFAQs when I was 12, but I don't think anyone cares how old I am (it's 22)(my birthday is October 29th) nor does anyone here seem to care what each other's name is (mine is long and foreign-sounding). I personally had no idea what your name is because even if you had told me I am horrible with names even when I see people face-to-face day-in-day-out (though I seem to remember usernames fairly well, so maybe this is a disorder). In fact a while ago I posted, for the hell of it, a video of me giving a pathetic interview to the equally pathetic Rotary Scholars people and nobody cared.

So, first time going to a university, eh? Which one? I have not only a BA but a BS as well, so I am clearly qualified to give information on any and all things undergraduate-related.

UC Merced is pretty new (opened in like 2007 I think) so that might explain why you don't know much about it. <_<;

Right now I'm down as a history major (mostly because I've taken like 5 history classes already) but... I really don't know. I guess I'll see what happens.

Well, from my experience, it basically doesn't matter what you get your degree in, with a few obvious caveats:

(a) Non-STEM liberal arts degrees are, in general, looked down on by employers, so a generic degree like biology might be more useful if you don't have any particular career aspirations (depending on the econ program, you could also get an econ degree with a focus on history and then you, too, can be a bank teller!)
(b) If you want to do a particular grad school, you should have a degree in a related field
(c) If you want to go into a particular field whose undergraduate program is essentially training (linguistics, engineering), you should choose the appropriate degree

I have a friend who ended up majoring in history because he registered late his first semester and ended up with a bunch of those classes and figured hey why not? Now he's an assistant debate coach at his alma mater. So.
