| Level: 43 Editor | I was fully expecting a crappy little Pokemon spinoff like so many others (I'm looking at you, Pokemon Dash), but it's actually pretty neat. The gameplay is kind of a mix between... oh, let's say FFT and LttP. Only worse, but you get the idea. There's the feeling of free movement and real time fights, but everything is actually turn based and on a grid. You can recruit a bunch of different Pokemon to your team, however, you're stuck playing as the Pokemon you're assigned at the beginning and stuck with the partner you choose at the beginning. Any others only tag along for one mission and aren't important (I don't even use 'em =/). Speaking of partners, the selection is VERY limited. I ended up as Treecko, which I believe meant all Grass partners were ruled out. My choices were Squirtle, Charmander, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mudkip, Torchic, and Pikachu, I believe. I chose Cyndaquil because with the exception of Mudkip and Torchic, the rest suck. <_< And Cyndaquil kicks ass. Attacks are completely ridiculous and the gameplay seems to be devoid of much strategy, during battles at least. If you remember Bullet Seed from RuSaEm, it was a crappy little Fury Swipes knock-off. In this, though, Bullet Seed will down a legendary in like 4 attacks. <_<; Yeah, it's pretty much my main weapon right now. Not being able to evolve until later is slightly annoying, and right now I seem to just be stuck doing random missions (think FFTA) until by some chance the plot advances. >_> Speaking of the plot, it's actually quite entertaining, if a bit... well, it's Pokemon, you know what I'm getting at. Stuff like the myth of Ninetales' 1000 year curse and Absol's ability to predict disasters plays into the plot, which is cool, since before now it's just been random flavor that affected nothing. There was also a really kickass fight scene where my Treecko went 1 vs 1 with an Alakazam. High point of the game so far. Low point is how my partner seems to have an almost unhealthy obsession with me. "I'll never leave your side! I trust you with all my heart! Together we can do anything! Let's go behind the Daycare so I can see your 'Bullet Seed'!" I can't believe I just typed that. Team: Mateys Play Time: 13:46:41 Adventures: 50 Player: Treecko - "Frood" - Level 22 - Bullet Seed, Quick Attack, Pursuit, Absorb Partner: Cyndaquil - "Loopy" - Level 24 - Tackle, Quick Attack, Ember, Smokescreen NOTE TO SELF WHEN I'M MORE THAN HALF AWAKE LATER: Don't type stuff at 7:25 AM after staying up all night. It ends up looking like that. ^^^ GO THE FUCK TO BED. --- To All The Children Of That Day- "So that's what it was... | Level: 43 Editor | I'm either really, really bad at this game or extremely good at it. *slight spoilers follow* "Hey, a new area! Buried Relic... Hmm, that sounds pleasant! I'm gonna go in there unprepared. It can't have more than 30 floors, no problem!" "Oh, a Regi! But it's Regirock, so I'll just pwn it with Bullet Seed. That's gotta be the end of the dungeon, it WAS a boss, right?" "...Hmm, another Regi. I'll kill it without too much trouble." "Oh, the last Regi. ...I seriously hope this is the end of the dungeon." "Floor 50 isn't the end? Gotta be 55 then." "Okay, I'm running out of PP and assorted Apples, traps are raping my inventory, and my partners are completely useless. Floor 60. Let's check GameFAQs to see how much longer I'll be doing this..." "NINETY-NINE FLOORS? You've gotta be ****ing kidding me. Sigh... Max Elixer, Bullet Seed, go pwn stuff." "Floor 80. I'm getting close." "Floor 90... Wait, I have absolutely no food. None. Not even berries. I am SO screwed." "Floor 95. My 'heal the damage I take from hunger by slaughtering Golems with Absorb' plan seems to be working." "Absorb and Mega Drain are out of PP. Floor 98. If I die here, I swear to god, I will KILL someone." "WTF APPLES! YESYESYESYESYES! AND I ESCAPE! WHEEEEEE!" | Level: 43 Editor | I've been surprised once again. Despite most of the game being hilariously easy (even the Buried Relic poses no threat at all to me anymore, I can get through all 99 floors in about an hour), there are some dungeons that flat out kick my ass. I forget the technical term for them, but before you begin them, they temporarily knock you down to level 1 with your starting stats/moves. Some take your items and gold as well. Level 4 Treecko (well, TECHNICALLY a Sceptile, but stats-wise, it's a Treecko) vs. Multiple Skarmory = NOT EFFING FAIR. --- To All The Children Of That Day- "So that's what it was... | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Obviously I meant based upon it's stats. I've seen decks built around it, but as a single card it's not that effective. Just like how if you know what you're doing he doesn't suck in SSBM which was one of your examples. +++ |

| Level: 43 Editor | Mewtwo is bottom tier in SSBM, this isn't even debated. He's far and away the worst character without items, and with items he's still barely better than Pichu or Bowser. For the record, Mewtwo Mulligan was: Mewtwo (Base Set) x4 Psychic Energy x(Deck total - 4) I forget whether Pokemon had a 60, 50, or 40 card limit. Regardless, that deck absolutely slaughtered until Jungle and Fossil were released. --- To All The Children Of That Day- "So that's what it was... | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Then that makes tiers and statistics pointless, does it not? If it's not a statistic showing flaws and weaknesses to each character that is influenced by personal experience, what is the point? Those statistics would only count if you had no friends to play against and thus could only do the single player options of SSBM, which is painfully easy no matter who you use. In short, without personal experience said tiers and statistics mean nothing. +++ <pic>http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/Scorpion316/nusig.gif</pic> Oh Snap! It's back! ^ |

| Level: 43 Editor | Statistics is mostly for RPGs. Using my example, if Knoll has a 10% chance of getting +1 Luck each time he levels up, and he levels up... let's say 27 times total, his Luck sucks no matter how high his Luck was on your game. Similarly, tiers are not something that says "If X uses Bowser and Y uses Falco, Y will always win." It's "If X uses Bowser and X uses Falco, Falco has the advantage." It assumes people are of equal skill. Hence "I can beat my friends with Mewtwo" is the equivalent of saying "I can beat my friends with a Nerf football, why is the army still using guns?" I suppose if you were good enough with a Nerf football and fighting a 3 year old with an antique pistol, you could win, but a pistol is still a better weapon. --- To All The Children Of That Day- "So that's what it was... | Level: 49 Liberal Arts Major | Yeah, but a nerf ball owns a pistol when it comes to satisfaction over said victory. >_> Apart from that.. I forgot what my original point was even going to end up being. >_> I think it was something along the lines of the fact that tiers are still rather pointless to bring up to say a character sucks in a particular game, when that's by simply assuming everyone is a robot who plays the exact same way which nobody really does in a fighting game. About the only place a tier like that could hold any real meaning is in single player games like I said, and even then the computer will randomly throw out an uber "bottom tier" character just to fuck with you. The sad thing is, I hardly cared coming into this, and now I somehow care even less, which I didn't think was possible. >_> +++ <pic>http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/Scorpion316/nusig.gif</pic> Oh Snap!
