Americans' "Knight" Factor
Before we start, this article will insult people, many, many people and their beliefs. This includes Americans in general, Muslims in general, and many others. Now, back to the topic. So, 9/11 happened. 3000 people died. A lot, right? Now, why don't we compare this to the 16,000 people a year who die in murders in the United States a year? The United States is a powerful nation, and with the recent disaster in Indonesia, they should add money to help those less fortunate. After all, we are humans and this is what makes us different from the rest of the animal world: we work in civilization, society. And in society, respect yields power. The military gains way too much of it, especially in the states. In general, American society has many faults and needs to be changed.
After 9/11, people living in the United States came together. The point is that it is only the second time (Pearl Harbor the other) that Americans experienced and attack on their own soil. "Oh no! Our country attacked by terrorists! And we are not at fault!" That is what I hear now. After the initial spell of friendliness, everything went back. The only difference is that when mentioning 9/11, you get people's attention. Other than that, nothing has changed. People are still complete asses to others and totally inconsiderate of their feelings. Bigger items deserve more attention. This is similar to AIDS - the 9th leading killer in the US; yet it gains more funding than the three leading killers combined. Attitudes must change.
The United States helps other nations, yes. However, when only spending on a major international relief effort what it spends on Iraq per DAY, is it really doing enough? Well, republicans ARE in charge, so no. The money-hogging bastards decide to blame others for the US's problems. Instead, we are spending money on an effort that destroys the surplus. Not only that, but the leaders kill the troops that everybody "respects". For example, this summer, I did not put my hand over my heart while the national anthem played before a baseball game. This woman (who I assume is a soccer mom. >_>) decided to chew me out for it... I'm a Russian citizen. And her reason was "why don't you support our country? My friends are over in Iraq!" And if they weren't, I'd have more spirit than she. That is sickening, after "worshipping" the troops. All they do is their job. I know many military personnel and am friends with some. I respect what they do for their nation. But that is it. Saying they are heroes is completely obscene, especially with several prison scandals afoot. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. It is just human nature.
