Hello everyone! Today we have a review of an obscure Japan-only NES JRPG. Spoiler alert: at the end, there's a buy or rent section. I still haven't quite gotten over that. If you don't know the game by name, just realize that it's a prequel to Earthbound. And if you don't know Earthbound... what are you doing here? Anyway, this is GameFAQs user Keele Zeibel's Mother review.

Talk about bringing back the good old days when I played this beast on my emulator again.
Yes, the good old days, when game consoles were men, men were RPG leads, and RPG leads didn't wear sixty belts.
A game that could kick the ass of...well about 99% of the trash on the market again.

For the record: This review was written in 2001. Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire were released in 2002. So there were only two Pokemon games named by color (i.e. main series) on the market at the time. Guess how many Mother games there were?
This game really deserves credit, because I love to give games bad reviews, and this one was spared from my wrath.
Yes, you clearly have impossibly high standards. You gave a 9/10 to a game that you already admitted is worse than some games that are trash.

Earthbounds story is a little crazy,
This is the game where you beat up hippies and possessed lamps, go to a place where cats swim in the ground, and get to play, briefly, as a tank.

(Also note that he's referring to the game as "Earthbound" rather than "Mother" or even "Earthbound Zero"...)
but so is the idea of catching pocket monsters
Because collecting small animals doesn't happen in real life or anything!
and all that other trash out there,
I'm assuming Pokemon is in that 1% of all trash games that are better than Mother, personally.
but this one is actually original and entertaining.
