Discrimination of Race
Racism is a hot topic among people today. It not only includes the stereotyping of race but also involves age, gender, height, weight, and many other things anyone wants to discrimination about.
Racism has been around for a very long time. In ancient Egypt, there was racism between the Egyptians and the Hebrews. Just because Egypt’s Pharaoh did not like the Hebrews the Egyptian’s abused, captured, and forced the Hebrews to become slaves. Part of the reason that the Pharaoh did not like the Hebrews was due to the fact that he was afraid of their growing number. Racism is caused by the quick assumptions of people based on one or two simple characteristics of a few people of that race. Most slavery was due to racism. People believe that a race is not able to comprehend the vast structure of their society, so they can only be used for slavery.
All people are different; racism will always be in our society. Look at young children, from the time they are in preschool, they know absolutely nothing about racism. But you will still see them making fun of others students just because they are different. This is caused by a sinful nature that is prevalent in all humans from birth.
Racism has had many diverse effects on today’s society. It has brought about many movements against it. People have demonstrated to stop it and tried to have bills passed to prevent it. Racism has created leaders such as, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rev. Jessie Jackson, but it also has generated a tremendous amount of revolting via Malcolm X and the Black Panthers. Even beyond these, racism has become a part of everyday life. We read about it in the newspapers, listen to it on the radio, and watch it on the television. Hate crimes are one of the ways that racism is acted out. Crosses being burned in front yards and swastikas painted on walls in black neighborhoods are just a few examples. There are even entire organizations bent on the downfall of races that they do not like. Voice discrimination is another effect of racism. Landlords may not rent a house just because of the sound of the voice may be typical of a certain race. Racism can also be found even while looking for a job. Employers will hire people of the same race before they will hire people of other races. On the other hand, the government requires employers to hire a certain number of minorities. If a qualified person applies for a job, they may not be hired because they are not of the minority that needs to be filled.
We can teach the current generation to not be racist. The effects will benefit future generations so we will have fewer conflicts between races and we will be able to put our energy into solving other problems.
In conclusion, this demeaning way of life will forever ripple its way through human life and continue to reemerge itself with the public.
